The one place opened till late…read more Calazones, sausage rolls (can be heated up in their microwave if came later in day) cooler also has other baked goods, energy balls (three dollar) and they also have soaps, grocery items and other things (good for when the co-op is already closed) cause they close at 5:30 and open at 9:30, while gas bar is 8:30-6 and store part closed at 5:30. Thus, Ford's cove is important before after those times. They also have a Marina, campsites, heated shower for campers, badminton, cabins even, and resturant (different than the burger place in the summer, which is a foodtruck set up on the wooden platform, I always ate there many times and really liked every time, and they would lettuce wrap my burger cause I'm gluten free for digestion/hand pain) they were really affordable considering we are on an island off another island off an island..... the store has pizza which is cheap, and like cans of beans. Do buy staples off the island as many depend on the delivery of some items. They are great people there and the delivery comes on the ferry often. They just opened the restaurant upstairs, and is open eight AM till eight at night, but last order is at 6:45, although one person said mid-day so maybe check on holidays. The restaurant has halibut, nice fish and chips, burgers, beer and calamari. If you just want cheap pizza then downstairs they have pizza in the store and if you want dairy-free pizzas then I'd say the bakery kitty corner to the island co-op has ones with no extra charge for the dairy free cheese and they have rice tortilla (good sized) for their gluten free version. The other bakery is good for their scones, while Ford's cove is better for Saran-wrapped items to go as their items are usually faster (other place doesn't have pizza by the slice but the scones and drinks are easy to walk up to get in summer etc, pizza there may take longer as they give you time slot due to limited ovens ei. 3:30) both are decent and depends on what you need and how busy each one is at the moment. There are less seating here than the other bakery which has bench's and feild, (used to be an orchard before the fish-smoking place etc) while further down (at the One intersection turn right, past a creek and farms, and the last farm is an interesting oak tree eco system, but don't be too distracted as many bike on that windy road! At the end is dear ford's cove and marina. They have limited parking so know times of the day and year May be crowded compared to non-tourist seasons. the beach is definitely worth a sit-down with a bottle of honey wine (they make it on the island) There are erosion-creates ledges to sit on with your legs in the water and a bubble-rock look to it. The sunsets are the best from here (there are other spots as well, figure out which direction is east etc and visit whatever beach fits your energy the most and you feel most safe and at peace. There is lovely trails that can also be great but don't forget a flashlight/sunset approximate time. The store can also order you in things if your a resident or your boat is going to be there after their next delivery. Last note about hornby is that water is paid, by one dollar coins, (one dispenser of purified water is at Ford's cove and the other is co-op gas bar) in summer there is a bus and the gas station sells litre jugs and the bigger ones as well. After summer time there is no bus service (denman and them had a trial service of summer free-buses, usually ending in September and starting points being variable depending on funding) The service went well (I used it a lot and always gave me an hour at Ford's cove - if your there for longer (or burn easier) then please - Wear a sun hat/ cover uand only use reef safe sunscreen!!) and is useful for summer workers and tourists alike, and definitely needs a winter time extension. Like the cat bus from studio ghlibli.... Anway there is also good people if your a hippie needing to hitch hike to somewhere, ferry gotta get there early, memorize the closing hours of stores here, and be kind and respectful, don't overwhelm the phone lines and go in person. Drive or walk. There are also nice wooded trails here. Ones behind the main road from ferry to main center. And ones in the mountain 'joffery' (forget if that's the spelling and idk what the native peoples called it but I know they didn't come here due to lack of fresh water but visiting to hunt deer and moon time for women) Last trail I'll mention is ford's cove to the ferry, it's really pretty and you can look back at the ten minute mark and see the small-scale wind turbine the resturant has and the lights along it. It is very peacful here, the email is checked often and the owner is latin and happiness of the camper/ store visitors and cabin renters and of his staff is very important to him and it shows in his happiness to show campers to their campsite, which is quiet and has wonderful forest-sunshine ratio for summer

Great fish and chips(cod, halibut, salmon), burgers, salads, calamari, licensed. Inside or out, best…read moreviews on Hornby!

In the shoulder months, they supply blankets to keep the chill away. Our last visit was in January, so we sat inside. The service was exquisite, the meals were very good, and we thoroughly enjoyed the hospitality.
