The only reason I said maybe is it has quite a limited type of menu obviously it's English/British food, which has its highlights but I find it's more like comfort food, which is great for the rainy cooler season. While staying nearby at the Tigh Na Mara resort, the hubby and I saw an advertisement for the Black Goose Inn. It was so intriguing that we decided to make the five minute drive next door, just to have lunch. Set near the water on the local resort, the restaurant looked like a converted mansion from the olden days, so it was real treat for me. All the windows were open which provided a nice cool summer breeze (so effective that we had to wear our jackets). There was also plenty of picnic table seating outside, and quite a number of folks chose to brave the winds to eat there. The hubby eventually settled on the generously sized Mac and Cheese while I went for the equally generous portioned Popcorn Shrimp. Between the shrimp, house salad and fries, it was a very satisfying meal. The shrimp claw and fries were deep fried just right, and I had enough house salad to feel like I was trying to be healthy. I tried a bit of the rich and creamy mac and cheese (mouthwateringly delicious), and I felt the portion was big enough and rich enough for two meals. It felt like it was good value and portioned pub food for the price you pay. If you are staying at the nearby resorts in Parksville, definitely worth a trip there! read more

Stellar views from old house built in 1921 or while seated on the front lawn overlooking the bay. Either way it'll be a memorable time! Our Parksville friends brought us. We reveled in merriment with Jagged Face IPA's from Arrowsmith brewery. Got the party started! Starters: Deep fried jalapeño poppers and something I never saw on a menu, deep fried pickles with dipping sauces were scrumptious too. I devoured bite by bite - determined to eat it all - a huge plate of Bangers and Mash. Seriously 2 large sausages, huge bowl of gravy and mashed potatoes looked delish. It looked like 2 big BC cruise ships (sausages) floating on a dark heavy sea of gravy! Yum! I can not believe I ate it all. My wife and friends enjoyed beer battered cod fish and chips with tartar sauce and Guinness marinated steak and mushrooms in a rich gravy topped with puff pastry - looked delish as well. Lovely resort restaurant with outdoor and indoor seating. The staff are friendly and helpful with food recommendations. I did forget to take a picture of the steak and stilton pie, but the bangers and mash was solid with two diffeerent types of sausages that are made locally. Came here for a mini getaway as it was nice and close to where I was saying Overall, it's a good place. The decor was rustic and it's very homey. Food wise, it serves a classic british fare, and it was pretty decent! Except for the Toad in a Hole - it was a special, sausage wrapped in puff pastry - it had two tiny pieces of sausage in a slightly burnt pastry. Not great. We were staying at one of the cottages on the beach and decided we would walk up and a have dinner at the Black Goose Inn. It had come recommended by friends and we were not disappointed. Not only is the atmosphere of the pub really cool, but the food was excellent and the portions were just right for traditional pub fair. Their outdoor space is also great, with beautiful views, and space for the little ones to run around. And there are blankets available for those cooler nights, which was greatly appreciated. What a lovely spot! I am so glad my eavesdropping on the beach paid off today as we landed at this well appointed establishment. Picnic tables are set up outside for dining alfresco. Very different and very cool. Walk in and seat yourself. When you're ready, you go up to the "Snug" and place your order (remember your table number). Eventually (expect a wait!), your food is brought to you. The food was great, with quite a few traditional British options (steak and kidney pie, sheppard's pie, fish and chips, etc.). I was disappointed that the roast beef and Yorkshire pudding meal was a special only available certain days of the week -- I would have loved that! They had Kilkenny on tap (I had never had it as draught before), but sadly it was not nearly as tasty as it is from a can. Our meal for 4 people, with no appetizers, 2 alcoholic drinks, and 2 desserts, came to $110 with tax and tip. I would certainly come here again -- what a fun experience! read more

Cool place (it was built long ago to replicate a family hunting lodge in Scotland. Nice atmosphere sitting out on the front lawn, overlooking the beach. I wasn't terribly hungry, plus the prices seemed pretty high; so I just ordered the Soup of the Day, which was Parsnip & Sage. It was basically flavored water...I've never been served a more watery soup. It came with a small slice of bread. They've got a nerve charging $6.95 (plus tax & tip) for it. read more

Prices here are expensive and therefore you'd expect great food. Normally this is the case, but on this particular night the only chef present was the "owner". Totally unacceptable and surprising that they wouldn't just close down for the night. We debated going to A&W instead but instead waited an hour for poorly made fish and chips. Gorgeous building and views. Happy and friendly staff always always always! I have eaten there too many times to count and each time my son and I have a blast playing crib before and after we eat. I admit we get loud laughing and poking fun but we dont realize it until people start looking at us and then its too late cuz they are laughing at the chatter we do teasing each other. The staff know us by now even tho we only get there a few times a year. It is our favorite place to play and eat - absolutely!!! It's so delicious the food will never disappoint cuz its just good home cooking with some special dishes as well on the menu. I had my first bunless burger there and it was fantastic! The drinks are pretty darn good too, but the staff just love coming and seeing how we are doing while we play. We dont look the same but the new staff always guess right when they come over and say " You must be mother and son!" It must be our personalities that are obviously the same and we love to laugh - even when my son skunks me repeatedly. Its just so much fun there like no where else!!! read more

They still managed to make a spot for us by the bar which included myself, my cousin, his wife and my niece. Two of us ordered the shepherds pie and it was really good. Having booked an easter getaway for the family at Beach Acres Resort, I was extremely excited to hear about this English country pub-style restaurant located on the premises. I was not disappointed. The Black Goose provides almost the complete english country pub experience. From placing your order at the bar, through the selection of English local beers to the bottles of malt vinegar on the tables and the pompous almost-retired solicitor pontificating in Home Counties tones in the corner. In fact, one feels like one has been transported directly to suburban Surrey (no, not _that_ Surrey). The food on offer will be familiar to anyone who has dined in a traditional English pub - fish and chips, pies, ploughmans lunch with stilton cheese, bangers and mash and all the usual favourites. I had no hesitation in choosing the Steak and Kidney Pie and was not disappointed - the pastry was crisp and flaky, and the filling rich and meaty. If you have any room left, or if you have less excitable children than us, there is a good selection of puddings to round off the meal. This place will definitely become a regular for us whenever we're in the area. read more

The chicken pot pie is good, the prime meat burger is great, the lamb burger is really good, the fish and chips are good, the yam fries are excellent but and a huge BUT... the shepherds pie is without a doubt revolting..... yes its eatable- barely. Black Goose has a decided British pub atmosphere without the darts. The Fisherman's pie and the vege pie were very different but both good. The beer was cold, the prices reasonable. We just had very nice meal. The wait was a bit long, but they are still staffing up, so we are willing to be patient. They did warn us, and we could see they were doing their best. The servers were working hard, and very pleasant. The food was good. I had the special shepherds pie, my husband had the shrimp and our son the kids burger. We were all pleased. So, this is one of our favourite places to sit down for a meal when in Parksville. First, we love the old house, built by Mclure, in the 1920's do not quote the date, but similar in architecture to the government house in Victoria, Just a wonderful atmosphere. Next, the staff are very nice, ensuring you have a relaxing visit. Several nights a week they have music, not to loud and great selection. Last but not least the food and beer are great!
