I think this place is under new ownership now, and I had AMAZING service! I got the WHITE CHOCOLATE and almost died and went to heaven. It's like the best thing I could imagine. Here's some constructive criticism: STAY OPEN THE HOURS YOU ADVERTISE. My wife called at 840 last night to let them know we're on our way and to see if they could have popcorn ready for us to run in and out. The rude woman that answered said we had 5 mins to get there. We asked if we could pay over the phone to save time because it'd be more like 10 or 15 mins and were told that nobody would be there so no. End of conversation. We've never even been to the place and the woman on the other end made sure we never will. Not even a "I'm so sorry but we're closing early tonight. Please come back and see us tomorrow" Just a rude answer that no one would be there. I guess the concept of good customer service is lost on this place. The other reviews seemed a little rough. My wife and I get different flavors and enjoy them. People should set their expectations accordingly - the popcorn is pre-popped and ready to add flavoring. I bet you could get there when a new batch is completed though too. But for just walking in and paying a little bit, you can have a very flavorful snack really quick and its not too fattening. They have been willing to experiment to make my wife a 'vegan' popcorn. Spicy Dill is what she likes and it tasted really good. You should try for yourself before making too big of a judgement. Reading these reviews makes me wonder what is going on at Reel Popcorn and why my experiences have differed so vastly from others. I've tried the Creamy Dill (delicious & the best of all the flavors), Salt & Vinegar (definitely for the Salt & Vinegar lover only), Nacho Cheese, Southwest Jalapeno (spicy!), Jalapeno Cheddar, Ranch, Cheddar, Butter (delightful in its simplicity)... All have been tasty. With the exception of sundried tomato, but I hate sundried tomatoes. I haven't tried any of the candied or savory flavors because the idea of chocolate on my popcorn sounds too weird for me. To each their own. Why only four stars? Cause the cost is prohibitive at times as it is quite easy to drop $20-30 on popcorn. read more

I've been going to this place for a long time, so I was surprised by the old and negative reviews--we've had nothing but stellar service and fantastic popcorn for many months. Besides the Bacon Cheddar, I can also recommend the Cookies N Cream (special, so not always available, but totally rocking with Oreo chunks) and the traditional Caramel. I've enjoyed every flavor and every person I've met working there. Oh, and with Go Local card you get a free snack bag (savory, I think) with every small bag purchased. Fantastic deal. My advice: if you're heading to a movie at the nearby Cinemark, stop by here first and bring a big bag or jacket to sneak this awesome popcorn into the movie. read more

First time here and I was overwhelmed with the choices. So my friend and I got salt n vinegar, cherry/blueberry candied, caramel pecan and banana. Interesting each and every flavor! I want to come back in and get a bag of the japaleno cheddar, hot pop, bacon cheddar, orange, vanilla, white chocolate pretzel, and strawberry cheesecake. I often drive to south austin just to make a stop at Reel Popcorn. Their flavors are incredible! We chose to do flavored popcorn for party favors at our wedding and the staff was incredibly helpful in picking out a flavor and the right amount we needed. My fiance and I went here today to taste popcorn flavors for our upcoming event. I was nearly scared off by the negative reviews, but I have to say... they are TOTALLY unfounded. The flavors are great! The service was friendly and attentive! The staff was super helpful and helped us come up with some creative combinations for our guests. They brought us more than a dozen samples of various flavors and suggested options to help our budget go farther. We ended up choosing 5 flavors (which I can't stop snacking on!) and we have shared them with several friends already who also love, love, love it. We chose Dill, Texas Trio (BBQ, Ranch, Cheddar mix), Strawberry Cheesecake, White Chocolate Pretzel, and Caramel. The only flavor that isn't an absolute WOW is the Caramel Corn... don't get me wrong, it's good. But it pales in comparison with the other flavors. I am addicted to the Strawberry Cheesecake... my fiance is already addicted to all of them. All I can say about the other poor reviews is maybe they were experiencing some "new store" jitters, or maybe ya'll are flavored popcorn connoisseurs and we don't know what we are talking about... but this place doesn't deserve any less than 4 stars. I guess you have to let your tastebuds be the judge - not everyone is going to love every flavor, but there certainly are a lot of great combinations for tasty, inexpensive snacks! Wow, I LOVE this place! First of all, it seems like the previous bad reviews were from a while back and whatever new-business problems they had are all ironed out now, because I just love it. I first sampled it at a busniess networking meeting. Before I tasted it, I remember thinking, "What is the big deal? It's just popcorn!". But after my first bite, I was hooked. The problem for me was that I was never able to get to the store since I live in Round Rock. I became a "fan" of Reel Popcorn on Facebook and answered a movie trivia question correctly and won a free snack size so I just had to get down there. I brought my friend with me and we walked out hooked for life. I chose Caramel for my free bag. It was so awesome! Not burnt at all! I immediately called my aunt who is a popcorn freak and she asked me to bring her a cheesy mixture, she LOVED it and now asks my friend to get some for her anytime she's in the area. My friend and I loved the inside of the store, the girl at the counter was cool and knowledgeable. She let us sample a batch of Caramel Pecan, my new favorite. We walked out with about 3 or 4 snack size bags. The other day, we were in the shopping center and when we realized Reel Popcorn was around the corner we screamed! I've never ever been so excited about popcorn. This time we each got a few bags, of course some for my aunt and we then brought it to a party where everyone loved it and wanted more. I'm planning on using Reel Popcorn for the holidays. It's an inexpensive and DELICIOUS! I met Sharon, the owner, and she is just a very delightful person. I have been a fan since Reel Popcorn was in southpark meadows. The popcorn is always great! I love the flavors of popcorn. It makes perfect gifts and you can put together your own little sample of mini bags. My favorites are Dill, Jalapeno cheddar which tastes like you're eating nachos at a football game. I also like the cookies and cream, and the cornfetti! My only complaint is from when I visited the new location a few weeks ago. The staff was friendly and great as always but the store itself looked like it needed to be organized. There were lots of boxes and supplies in the front of the store and it wasn't exactly organized. I really don't understand why there are so many negative reviews for this place. Although, I see that most are older reviews, and I'm guessing they have worked out all their little kinks. I've never once had a bad experience at Reel Popcorn!! Every flavor I've tried has been absolutely wonderful and spot on! The service has always been excellent, and the workers have always been willing to let us sample as many flavors as we want. The popcorn always tastes fresh to me (This is important since I tried Cornucopia close to campus and was disappointed because the popcorn tasted stale). I've also loved all the flavors I've tried. My personal favorite is Ranch. I've also had pizza, white cheddar, baked potato (a mix of sour cream and chive & bacon cheddar), vanilla, white chocolate pretzel, banana pudding, and cookies and cream. I'm not really a fan of sweet popcorn (though it's my boyfriend's favorite!), so I usually stick to the savory flavors. I like popcorn. I got on the flavored popcorn bandwagon about 10 years ago when a place opened in my hometown. I actually had the stuff shipped to every place I have lived I loved it so much. I have wanted to trek down to Reel Popcorn for about a month, but hadn't really had the time to do so. I have read the hit and miss reviews here, and had no idea what to expect. I was there on a Saturday night. I asked to sample about 4 flavors which were all in stock. One thing I will say is the salt is spot on here. I like my savory flavored popcorns a bit on the salty side because I think it makes the flavors more intense. I got Dill, Jalapeno Cheddar, and Toffee with Almonds. The dill was phenomenally good. It has a tart quality that almost tastes sweet when the dill flavor interacts with the salt. It's quite addicting. The Jalapeno Cheddar is spicy, cheesy, and salty. It's very good, and addictive. When I got it home, the husband wound up eating about half of it. I will definitely pick it up again. The toffee with almonds was good, and I bought some to bring home. I didn't finish it though. It's sweet, but I like a bit more complexity in my sweet flavors. It was a bit one-note with every bite tasting exactly the same. After a couple handfuls, I didn't want any more. I thought the prices were a bit high, but not unreasonable. I'll definitely go back. It was good, but I'm going to have to taste some more flavors on the sweet side. read more

So, I've been an austinite my whole life! Keeping it weird and local is what I love the most about this city. When I first tried Reel Popcorn when they first opened, I became hooked! I've tried other popcorn stores but I never was satisfied with the menu or the store's atmosphere. The customer service at these other popcorn stores was nothing like the genuine feeling that I recieve when I go to Reel popcorn. I was so impressed with the theme of the store and the family & friendly environment I felt every time I would order my some of my favorite flavors!! I frequently take my kiddo to play at the playground at South Park Meadows, for those of you that don't know Reel Popcorn is RIGHT by the playground in perfect view for the kiddies, I don't know if they chose that spot, but from a business stand point it's GENIUS, my kiddo loves popcorn! I never gave this place a second glance, I thought it was just movie theatre popcorn, simply put, it's NOT, it's SO SO SO much more! I went in alone at first, sampled the coconut curry(my fave so far), then a few min later I brought my fam in to try the tasty treats, it was the owner helping us, she was polite, and enthusiastic about what she does, and it is always great to meet someone so happy about what they do. All together we sampled dill, cajun, coconut curry and confetti. Being the indecisive eaters we are we bought FOUR mini-bags as we couldn't commit to just one flavor, we needed multiple. We bought coconut curry, cajun, fill and chweddar, and no, that is not a typo, I wrote CHWEDDAR, which is orange cheddar and white cheddar mixed. My mini-me LURVED the "rainbow" popcorn, it's a definite kid pleaser, hubby went for the dill, which is apparently one of the more popular flavors! Want popcorn? Go there NOW. At South park meadows?
