I can't believe I haven't written a review for one of my favorite places on earth!!!! Not only do they have amazing popcorn, but they have exactly what you want. And they mix flavors! We got dill mixed with jalapeño cheddar last week. And white cheddar for the kid. And they brought back grape and banana! (Don't knock it till you try it! It keeps my sweet tooth at bay.) They're generous with samples and ALWAYS welcoming. We go to Wimberley just for popcorn. That's about 45 minutes for popcorn. Yep. That good!! read more

Papa Hoo's Hill Country Popcorn is a specialized shop in downtown Wimberley. Originally we drove all the way to downtown Wimberley (approx 1 hour) just to visit this popular popcorn shop. They specialize in popcorn and offer many different flavors, but they also offer old fashion candy, and old fashion soda pops. The shop is super cute and they get busy. It does take a while to place and get your order specially if you are ordering different flavors. When I was there nice teenagers were running the shop. There was some confusion about our order and when we got out ready to devour our popcorn noticed a couple of the flavors were missing. I couldn't read the receipt well because of how the flavor popcorn is abbreviated, so waited another half an hour in line to let them know we were missing some popcorn flavors. When the teenager reviewed my receipt she said comparing what I had with the receipt she actually didn't charge me for one. So, I ended up ordering what "I was missing" plus paid for the popcorn she had not charged me. Between soda pops, old fashioned candy and popcorn, $150 later Til now I still feel confused about the receipt and don't know if I over paid or not. I do love their popcorn but definitely be careful to not carry yourself ordering too much lol read more

First time visiting papas hoos popcorn and we are really happy we stopped! Owners were extremely friendly, very clean establishment, and popcorn was fresh with some bomb flavors! We got a refillable 3 sleeve jumbo tin, with 4 flavors, 2 were mixed, they do give military a free bag of popcorn and it was not overly priced at all. We will definitely make this shop part of our tradition stopping place. read more

Upon entering the little whimsical town of Whimberly I received a brief moment of deja vu. What? You say a glitch in the Matrix? Maybe but I went with it. After checking out multiple shops we ended up stopping at Papa Hoos because a root beer sounded like the perfect choice on a hot non alcohol day (they do happen). The root beer collection was vast and wide and ended up getting a root beer flavored with butterscotch. Now for all you non butterscotch lovers you can skip it but for those that love those golden yellow disc candies than this is the root beer for you. It is tasty and not too overwhelmingly sweet. The popcorn is the main event at this store. They are eager to provide samples to entice you to buy. I tried zebra, buffalo, beer, and oreo. I liked them all except wasn't a fan of beer flavored. My husband and I grabbed a mini bag of buffalo and oreo. Please note that in the Texas heat it will melt and you can always put in the fridge or you hands will be sticky. read more

Lets just be frank here... Papa Hoos is in Wimberley, TX one of the best little towns in the world... They are a family runned operation which means AWESOME customer service. They have so many different flavors of popcorn it can make ones head spin! The different variety of awesome, and unique sodas are AMAZING! The quantity for the price is THROUGH THE ROOF!!! And most important the flavor of the popcorn... Indescribable, each flavor is just as good if not better than the last. I could have walked out of the store with a bag of every flavor! My favorites would have to be the Xtra Cheesy and the Spicy Buffalo, but you can't go wrong with Dill Pickle if you could just snack on pickles all day it's the same thing only ADDING POPCORN!!! 2 things I have to say about Papa Hoo's. And they're both GOOD. Glad to see small town family businesses with a great product and friendly employees are still around. 1) I don't know how they do it, but the popcorn is incredible. I only got a mini bag because I think I could have eaten a huge bag all to myself. Butter and sea salt caramel were my favorites. Also - Zebra and the bacon!! So yummy! 2) AMAZING people who work there. Typically when you see younger kids working, they're usually unenthused and quiet. Not the case here at all. Big shout out to Alec, Marissa, and Brenner to being SO helpful and friendly. We asked for a million samples and ya'll were so patient and helpful with suggestions. Talkative, willing to help, and just overall nice people. It's really rare to get that these days. They really made the experience one to remember. With over 50 flavors of popcorn and a VERY patient staff as I took my sweet time trying out, well, a lot of them, I thought this place was fantastic! They offer everything from classic popcorn to flavors like dill pickle, jalapeno ranch, salted caramel, cinnamon toast, cherry, green apple, and more. SO much more! You can mix 'n' match flavors in a single bag if you like, and they have some flavor combo suggestions on the wall as well (staff favorites!). The dill pickle and the jalapeno cheddar were my two favorite savory flavors, and the cinnamon toast kettle corn stole my heart on the sweet side. Cute little gourmet popcorn shop that allows you to sample to your heart's content. A lot of good flavors it was hard to leave without buying a bunch of flavors. My kids loved the Xtra Butter variety while our out of town guest went with the Dill Pickle. I really liked the Jalapeño Cheddar and Sour Cream Cheddar. The staff was very friendly servicing our sample requests. And they accidentally filled one of our "mini" orders as a larger size "junior" size so they only charged us the "mini" price. Sweet, sweet group of people working there and what a great concept for popcorn! I dropped by after hearing how great the popcorn is, and they were right, it was really great! I sampled a few flavors before I landed on sour cream and cheddar and garlic parmesan. Both were very tasty! If I had to say one slightly negative thing about the place it would be the lack of order to everything. It's a smaller place and when there's a lot of people in there, it gets crazy. I think they just need a better system of taking orders, getting payment and handing out the purchases. The day I was there it was very busy so I understood the chaos, but they weren't sure if I had paid or not or which order was mine. Still love the place and will go back when I'm in town. The most amazing popcorn I have EVER eaten!!! We LOVED the jalapeño cheddar, dill and pecan pie!!! I can't wait to try more!!!!

My friends and family are frequent guest to this place and even planned on having them at our wedding, HOWEVER the last few visits the popcorn has been stale, which translates to OLD!! We found out from the sweet girls working there there are new owners. Looks like they are cutting corners and one of our favorite stops in Wimberley is no more. Hopefully this place will turn around, but from the looks of it they are not keeping up with the principals of the previous owners who took pride in their products. What a shame. read more

World famous Garrett popcorn established in Chicago won't hold a candle to Papa Hoo's in Wimberley, Tx. On a recent trip to New York, & after being told that Garrett's had the best popcorn, I bought a bag of their caramel corn. To say the least, I was very disappointed as about every bite was hard & clumped together, you flat couldn't eat it! Papa Hoo's caramel corn is fresh & crunchy but not sticky like Garrett's. I wasn't expecting much when I walked in, my thoughts were along the line of "....a specialty popcorn shop? Hmmmmmmmmm...." but I was pleasantly surprised! We walked in and the aroma was absolutely amazing! We were greeted by a very nice woman (I didn't catch her name), who asked if we'd been there before. I let her know this was our first time and she told us about all the different flavors, and how the pricing works. She gave us several samples, and anything we asked for she was more than happy to give us a taste. We tried the dill, Sriracha, buffalo, sea salt and dark chocolate, zebra, and puppy chow..(I THINK that's all, we tried a LOT). All were just as tasty as the last! We settled on a bag of dill, a bag of Sriracha, and she mixed the sea salt and dark chocolate with the zebra in a bag for us. The customer service was top notch, and the popcorn is amazing!
