I called to a dozen shops in the area and the front desk service rep was the only one who was willing to work with me. Ultimately, I wasn't able to bring my vehicle in to be serviced at this service center, I was impressed that they wanted to help me out and I appreciated their willingness to go out of their way to lend a hand. The next nearest stations are nine miles away in Bellefonte. I stopped here on Saturday 8/02 around 2 pm, and their pumps were broken. All four pumps. On a Saturday afternoon. Where was the repair crew? Aren't gas pumps somewhat vital to your business? Ridiculous. This was made even more exasperating by the problems that I had with the other station across the street.

I was in the beginning stretch of a cross country rode trip when my car started acting funny and the check engine light had turned on. I pulled off the highway and stopped immediately at the first mechanic I could find. They ran the computer to find out that it was the catalytic converter BUT I knew enough to know that just the computer test is not a definite. They guy at the first place I stopped was super pushy (told me I had to make the decision now or they wouldn't get the part), quoted me at over 800 dollars and the other mechanics there were all talking rudely to each other and didn't seem to care about each other or their customers. I got an extremely bad vibe so I looked up a couple places and found Hillside Service center. I called them up and he eased my mind immediately! He asked if they had done a smoke test or a pressure test to make sure it was the catalytic converter and they had not. He asked me if I could make it to him and he would check all of that for me. I am so happy I trusted my gut and found Hillside Service center! It did turn out to be the catalytic converter, unfortunately, but he quoted me at a much more reasonable price and he replaced my spark plugs for free. The whole process + labor time took less than a couple hours and I was back on the road heading to California. At the time, I was scared being alone on a road trip and upset about how much this all was costing. With my nerves all over the place, I found myself crying in the parking lot while trying to figure out funds to afford the work. And I cannot express how grateful I was for the father and son at hillside service center. They made me feel as much at ease as was possible in that moment. He could probably tell I was flustered so while his son worked on the car he made an effort to to have a nice conversation with me. His overt friendliness did not go unnoticed! These two men are extremely honest, hardworking mechanics and I could tell the second he picked up the phone for me. The waiting room was clean and accommodating. The way they interact with each other and their customers shows that they put love and respect into their work and their business. I will probably never find myself in Lock Haven, PA or at Hillside again but I'm so grateful that I did that day. Thank you!!

Not truly knowing what had happened, we were extremely nervous, helpless, and needed attention! We limped into town with a loud, sputtering truck and a 30' camping trailer. We drove in through and were heading back out through this small town when we pulled into a trucking company parking lot. A man sitting in his PU truck said, "go to the station on the corner - they'll take good care of you". That was an understatement! Busy to the max, the store manager, Darin, with a cast on his ankle from a 3-day-old surgery, checked out our damage, diagnosed the problem instantly; but said they had no leeway in their schedule to do any kind of a fix for us. He called another shop in town and got the same response. After thinking it over and probably realizing the gravity of our situation (we weren't going far the way we were), he offered us a mechanic to look at it after a while and see how bad the damage was and IF a temporary fix would be a possibility. Scott, the chosen mechanic, after almost 4 hours, had put a temporary spark plug adaption on the cylinder that had the plug blow out and we were able to travel once more. We were almost 200 miles from home but made it and can now have our truck fixed with a more permanent procedure. Darin and Scott were life-savers to us and we really appreciated their generosity, knowledge, and professionalism! A GREAT STORE WITH GREAT EMPLOYEES!!

The remaining lug nuts were not torqued to specs and were on the loose side. Good thing I checked them.

We had previously taken my wife's car here for an inspection and felt like we were significantly overcharged, but gave them the benefit of the doubt. However, I will no longer be giving them any business after my experience this week. I had to have my car towed from the highway last week. They were the closest tow company and I just had it towed right to their garage, hoping that it would save me some money. Through a combination of their expensive parts distributor and the shadiness of the garage, I felt like I was being overcharged by $150-$300 (I know, big range) for a part. I called around and got pricing for that part myself and disputed the cost with the garage. They tried to pass it off on the parts distributor overcharging them, but only showed me the list price on the invoice, while intentionally hiding the net price. I spoke with the parts distributor who, while still significantly more expensive than other places, definitely did not charge them full list price. Miraculously, $150 disappeared off my bill when I spoke with the garage again and pressed further, since I knew the actual cost of the part. I ended up paying about what I "should" have (minus the still too expensive part), but if I didn't know any better I could have really been taken to the cleaners. This all felt very shady and I wouldn't feel confident recommending Dobson's to anyone.

Before the trip, I had the vehicle serviced at my local dealership, who assured me everything was in perfect condition. However, midway through Pennsylvania, after stopping to refuel, the car started having issues--running rough and then stalling out multiple times. I immediately contacted BMW Roadside Assistance, and while they initiated a claim and arranged a tow, there were no Ubers, Lyfts, or taxis in the area, leaving us stranded at a gas station off I-80. They informed me my car would be towed to Joel Confer BMW, so my husband called the dealership and spoke with Scott in service. Scott was amazing--he quickly arranged for a loaner SUV (to accommodate all of our stuff), but the rental department closed at 4 PM, and it was already 2:50 PM with us being 40 minutes away. We tried everything to get there--no Ubers, no Lyfts, no taxis, and to make things worse, no tow trucks were immediately available either. Feeling stuck, we called Scott again and explained the situation. He went above and beyond to help us. Not only did he connect us with a local tow truck company (PA's Finest Towing), but he assured us that he would personally wait past closing to make sure we got the loaner car. The tow truck arrived about an hour later and even let us ride along so we could get to the dealership. We finally arrived at Joel Confer BMW around 5:45 PM, and as promised, Scott was there waiting for us with our rental car, even backing it up to my vehicle so we could transfer all of our belongings. Scott's exceptional service and dedication truly saved the day, and we couldn't be more grateful. Although Scott was off for the weekend, he made sure to fully inform the rest of the service team about our situation. By midday Friday, we received a call from the dealership, letting us know that the fuel pump had broken. They had already ordered a replacement for Monday morning delivery and assured us they would do everything possible to get the car ready for us that day. They did exactly as they said--something that rarely happens with my local dealership! My car was ready for pick-up on Monday, and to our surprise, it had been cleaned, vacuumed, and even had the floor mats washed. Scott had thoughtfully left the car in the garage bay and allowed me to pull the rental car inside to move our luggage without getting wet. Not only that, but the final bill was exactly what they quoted us--no surprises. Scott will forever be a hero to us, and we can't say enough good things about Joel Confer BMW. We only wish they were closer so we could always use this dealership!
