When I broke down the math, it's more expensive to get the dupe from here than the actual Milky Jelly Cleanser straight from Glossier. Attended a refill madness event at work. They went into great detail how everything they use are eco friendly and locally made. We were given rose, jasmine, lemon, rosemary, lavender scents to make our own spray and body scrub. Super easy to follow instructions and helped us with questions along the way. What a cute store! Love that this is so close to my new apartment (literally walking distance). Conveniently located next to Pushkins and the Co-Op. So far, I've filled up a hand soap and lotion for my bathroom. The yuzu lotion is literally perfect because it's for hand and body; it smells divine! I always enjoy exploring unique shops and boutiques. I love the concept of this place in particular because it provides and promotes products that also support our environment in a sustainable way. If only more stores could be like this: decrease throw away containers with less plastic garbage taken to land fills. The whole store carries a variety of useful, everyday supplies from laundry detergents, bath soaps, dish soaps, shampoos, lotions, useful household items, pet supplies and gifts. You can bring your own clean containers to refill or purchase what they have available. I can't say you will save money here or know what kind of ingredients each product contains, but if you are serious about saving the planet, paying a little extra to support a shop with such well intentions, should be worth the price and extra effort! Here's the thing about refill madness as a customer that's been purchasing from this store for about 6 years at this point, the customer service is really bad. They will hardly welcome you, never ask you if it's your first time in the store in order to educate you on how it works, they won't help you with finding your products or make friendly conversation. That being said, the products are awesome, The business model is fabulous and sustainable, and I will continue to patronize this business because it is better for the environment. The one time I went and felt welcomed and had a nice conversation with the person checking me out was when the owner left her teenage daughter in charge one time, but she doesn't even work there and she's a teenager so I'm not sure how a kiddo is nicer than people being paid. Refill Madness is a gem. If you're looking for natural products or looking to minimize your carbon footprint this is where you want to be. They have pretty much everything, moisturizers, lotions, castille soap, toner, shampoo/conditioner, body wash, dish soap, laundry detergent, the list goes on. How it works is you bring in an empty bottle or container (they also have bottles/containers for sale), they weigh it, then a staff member refills your container and weights it again. The prices are very clearly marked on the product so you know how much you're paying and is typically priced per ounce. There's samples so you can test/smell most of the products before you buy. They also sell locally made bath bombs and soaps, among other things. There's also reusable products like straws, bags, utensils, baby products, you name it. It's a great little shop with super friendly and helpful staff. This is right next to Pushkin's bakery on 29th Street which is a high traffic area. I recommend going down S Street to get parking if you can. Check them out for yourself, they have a wide variety of product and the price is comparable or less than what you would pay in a store. COVID Update: They are limiting the number of people in the store and require all customers to wear a mask. The staff all wear masks as well. The store is pretty small so you may need to wait if it's really busy. There is also hand sanitizer available to use and for sale. This shop is stocked with a good size variety of eco friendlier dish soap, laundry soap, household cleaners, hand soap, body lotions, and shampoo/conditioners. I'm sure I probably left something out. Anyway, the concept is to bring in your empty containers to have them refilled with the products. Or purchase a container. They carry new plastic or glass containers along with cleaned reused glass jars. They carry my favorite laundry soap ECOS in three different scents. Great! I brought in a clean previously used plastic detergent bottle for a fill. They weighed it empty. Than they weighed it with the product. The staff does the filling and will ask you how full you want the container. Easy peasy. Pricing of the products is comparable to the big red bullseye store. They take cash or card. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable. Love that. No awkward strangeness as you walk in. The interior and the inventory is displayed in a quant charming boutique style. Very cute. read more

There were tons of options for refills, and the sales attendant did the full refill service for us. The options were almost overwhelming so I get why it's called refill madness now! I was so excited to come here but, the customer service is extremely lacking. I've been following the store's IG account for months but, because of Covid & because I live out of town, I waited until I actually had some business in Sacramento to visit. They have a max policy of 4 people right now because of Covid - completely understandable. The door was closed so there was no way of me knowing if there are four people or not inside. I step in and was greeted by one lady, didn't catch her name and was yelled at by another that they're at max of four people. It was extremely embarrassing!! I have anxiety BTW. The store went dead silent and everyone was staring at me. I just turned back around and waited outside until a CUSTOMER told me there was room now. A CUSTOMER. She didn't even have the proper customer service to tell me herself. I honestly should have just left. Onto the actual store and products. I love the concept of the store. I saved lots of empties to take with me. The lady that greeted me was kind enough to explain how everything works after I told her it was my first time there. I really wish I got her name but she's Asian? I could be wrong but she helped me refill my lotion after I decided on which one. On my way home, I regretted not getting the EO French Lavender refill ha...I was definitely holding a grudge. They have a decent selection. The prices aren't bad. The lotion prices are about $3-4 more than what they would be retail price. The hand soap is worth getting for the price, 11 cents per oz. They have a nice selection of other products. There were some items that I was thinking about getting such as the boba straws and cbd treats for dogs but, I will buy them elsewhere. I love the concept of this store since it is all about reducing waste which is so needed right now. I have been wanting to come for a long time but just haven't made it until now! The customer service was very good but almost a little too good. They kept asking me if I was ready to do my refills but I kept telling them I was just browsing. They also wanting to start ringing up my items while I was still shopping. They explained you can bring your own bottles or buy refillable bottles there it they also have sanitized bottles you can have for free that people have donated. They have lots of natural products that are free of toxic chemicals. They also have other eco friendly products such as wooden toothbrushes, compost buckets, and reusable plastic wrap. My favorite place to shop in entire Sacramento. Thanks for their efforts to promote zero waste, refill, reuse, when recycle doesn't really entirely happen in real world scenarios. The items I normally refill from them: Liquid hand wash, laundry detergent, dish wash, cooking oils (used to have avocado oil but not anymore so I got grapefruit oil instead, at least it's still high burning point.) they don't advertise the cooking oil though, I am not sure what others use them for, perhaps baking or some other DIY project? I have also gotten Himalayan salt, neem oil, epsom salt from them before. They carry a ton of eco-friendly and sustainable products. If you care for the environment, please stop by and check them out. You will be surprised how many practical ideas you can learn from here. Always good friendly customer service. Very fast response when messaging them through FB. For refill, I feel the price point is generally quite reasonable. Other merchandise could be on the pricey side but just go see and have fun exploring. We need more caring stores like this in town. Tip: Get your frequency card for 10% off after 10 stamps. I adore the concept of this place. I've been trying to be more eco-conscious lately and I'm so glad I stumbled upon Refill Madness while out running errands in Sac. Clearly I haven't been doing my research, because I never knew refilling old bottles was an option in the first place... Such a strange, novel idea, yet absolutely logical. This place is packed with opportunities to go green-- the walls have flyers promoting charities & their shelves tout eco-friendly goodies. I feel like they're genuinely trying to raise awareness for their cause, especially since the staff was so enthusiastic to explain their store's mission. Spending a few minutes chatting with the girl at the counter led to eye-opening conversations about plastic use in the world. Not to be super cliche or pretentious or anything, but I felt a stronger urge to be a conscious consumer after my short visit here lol. Quite a bit of incentive for me to come here, actually-- I was surprised to see that even my go-to lotion (Shikai) was stocked here, cuz nobody I know uses this brand LOL. There's a variety of other products too, and I believe they try to stock eco-friendly options that could serve as alternatives to my existing ones. This place is really a little treasure to be had. I noticed when Refill Madness appeared between Pushkins Bakery and Revolution Wines but I didn't look into it. Their board on the sidewalk would remind me of their existence. It is a cool concept. You bring in your own container or buy one there and you can (re)fill them with dish soap, hand soap, shampoo, conditioner.. etc. I saw bath bombs. They have essential oils.. This, theoretically, eliminates some waste a person produces. Instead of buying a new bottle and throwing the used away, you could just go to this store and refill your container for cents per ounce. I don't wanna create more waste and I was out of dish soap and I've been meaning to go here.. There were recognizable brands in bulk that you choose to dispense into your bottle. I am so sad I didn't come here earlier! This place is so great. I finally needed to replace a bunch of things is my home and I came here during an afternoon and the two employees there were very sweet and helpful. They take any containers for refill and they had some free donated containers as well as well as some that were being sold for, in my opinion, very reasonable prices. A lot of their inventory is cheaper than buying online and some of their refills are cheaper than if you were to buy a less sustainable alternative. I refilled a lotion bottle with Shikai (sp?) That I usually pay too much for at other stores. As I run out of other products I will refill here. They have everything from laundry detergent, hair products, body wash, even 50spf sunscreen. The staff was friendly and helpful. They fill the containers for you. I was there at lunch time on a Tuesday. The person helping me said it gets pretty busy on weekends. A big plus: it's next door to Pushkins. I'm not gluten free but, they have yummy sweets! My first time there was a great one. I plan on returning in the future. I was able to refill my 32oz shampoo bottle with some decent product. I found some dryer balls and much needed epsom salt. Next time I want to bring my large pump lotion container to fill. They have a nice selection of lotions to choose from. I drug my in-laws with me and they enjoyed the store. The two ladies were very welcoming and eager to show us the ropes. I have heard in from friends that staff was rude but my experience the other day was very warm and inviting. I really like they have programs to recycle other products. I have attached photos of their recycling options. I would definitely recommend this place.
