I've been a loyal patient at ReFocus Eye Health since their original location, and I'm thrilled with the move to their new Grant Avenue space. All the staff members here are genuinely kind and attentive, which sets the tone for a positive experience from the moment you walk in. PARKING The parking situation at this new location is a massive upgrade from their previous spot--it was nearly impossible to find a space back then. Now, there are consistently open parking spots available, which makes visits so much easier. The one caveat is that the entrance requires making a U-turn onto Grant Avenue, which can be tricky given how busy that street is. It's a minor inconvenience, but the abundance of parking more than makes up for it. OFFICE/ATMOSPHERE The waiting rooms throughout the building are quite small, which becomes apparent at times. I've visited in January, November, and April, and the office frequently ran out of chairs. The wait times themselves are reasonable, but the limited seating can make waits feel a bit uncomfortable. This is definitely something they could improve on. DOCTOR INFO I've been seeing Dr. Bano for about 3-4 years now, and she's exceptional. My sister actually introduced me to her, and we're both big fans. What really sets Dr. Bano apart is her genuine commitment to finding what works best for you. She was the first doctor to properly fit me for contacts after years of visits to other offices where I was just told to stick with my old prescription. When my contacts started feeling uncomfortable in the last year. Dr. Bano took the time to refit me properly. It wasn't just about grabbing the first option; she worked through the process with me, even when my initial reaction to her first choice wasn't positive. She respected that as the patient, I know what feels right in my own eyes, and she was willing to adjust until we got it right. That level of care and attentiveness is rare, and it's why I keep coming back. BUYING EYEGLASSES HERE While shopping around at ReFocus, I had an excellent experience with their eyeglasses specialist. He has a real talent for styling and great communication skills. When I tried on frames he recommended, styles I never would have chosen myself, I felt an immediate boost in confidence. His eye for what works is genuinely impressive. However, I cannot recommend purchasing glasses here. The pricing is significantly marked up beyond industry standards. The Sophia Loren M317 frames cost $90 from the manufacturer, but ReFocus was charging $219 just for the frames. A whopping $550 for the frames and lenses combined. I found the exact same frames online for $183 total. $90 for the frames and another $90 that covered the prescription, thinner lenses, and the company's profit. They even came with a gorgeous collapsible leather case and all the eyeglasses accessories you could imagine. I also purchased a similar pair from another online retailer for just $40 with every upgrade imaginable: blue light filtering, impact resistance, thinner lenses, & fashion tint. For context on the pricing: The industry standard is a 40-60% profit margin. ReFocus is operating at 201% profit (I did the math), which is absolutely excessive. As someone without health insurance coverage for glasses, this is genuinely a rip-off. My advice: visit ReFocus to see how frames look on you in person and get the names of styles you love. Use that information to shop online, where you'll find dramatically better prices. CONCLUSION ReFocus Eye Health deserves credit for their caring staff and Dr. Bano's exceptional patient-centered approach to eye care. The new location offers superior parking, and the office atmosphere is pleasant despite the seating limitations. If you're looking for quality eye exams and expert medical care, this is a great choice. Just be sure to handle your eyeglasses purchases elsewhere, the frames and lenses are simply priced too high here to justify buying them. You shouldn't have to go broke for eye health or a good pair of glasses! read more

I have been seen at Grant location. I have been treated by Dr Sole senior since I was a child and now see Jr. Sadly since becoming Refocus I have been disappointed for the last three years for some reason or another my exams have been incomplete and require a second visit. Weather it be not enough time or the machine being broken. I have been asked to return for a second appointment that requires another copay and insurance bill, I feel like I'm being price gouged. To make matters worse they now charge a retraction fee of $60 on top of a $60 copay. The test I needed wasn't done... Now for my experience, I woke up with a sty after my last visit. The tech, chewing gum like a cow while doing my test, ran a tissue over the mach that barely touched it. I didn't see it disinfected but there was an assistant that cleaned the prior machine so I assumed that one was done. The bump on my chin says different. She also touched my eye with no gloves on right where the sty showed up. Unprofessional in an understatement for my time with her. I called multiple times to speak to the office manage, no respons. I called again tellIng reception who transferred to head tech. They asked me to come in to check my eye at least. When I arrived the next day they tried to charge me again. The wait time was quite long, I spent almost two hours there, which feels a bit excessive for an eye appointment, especially with so many patients coming in. However, Dr. Doych was absolutely wonderful, so kind, patient, and pleasant. She really helped make the experience much better. Refocus receiving one star from me is being generous. No eye exam should consume your entire day. This place is the absolute pits and Dr. Doych knows it and will do nothing to rectify how horrendous it is. It's all about over scheduling and cramming the maximum about of patients you can per day. Unreasonable to make patients wait over 3 hours. She needs to cut her patient count in half but refuses to do so. My daughter was a patient of hers since she was with Soll Eye. We followed her to Refocus at the Grant Ave Phila location and had her 1st appointment there 4/7/23. On that day, we walked in the office, it was packed. Barely any seats everyone looked miserable and tired as if they had spent their entire day there. I remember well, we waited there over 3 hours. This was just a simple routine eye exam with dilation. Not a good first impression! I dismissed the long wait with the fact that it was Good Friday and many had off and schools were not in session that day. Fast forward two years later, 5/5/25 we are back at Refocus to see Dr. Doych for an eye exam and to get a script for new glasses. Our appointment time was 3PM. We arrived at 2:40. We checked out and walked out of the building about 6PM. It's a shame for the office staff that has to stay until the very last patient leaves. OUTRAGEOUS! An hour earlier, as we were all crammed in the little dark room that everyone goes to after being dilated. Many of us were comparing notes on what time we arrived and why we were all still sitting there to see the same doctor.A few had mentioned that the wait is like this every single time they come. Out of frustration, a woman with her elderly mother got up and left without being seen. Apparently they had been waiting longer than us. As much as I just wanted to walk out with the other woman, I figured I had already invested hours of my day. It's like a hostage situation.I just wanted my daughter to get the eyeglass script so we could leave. When we finally got into Dr Doych's exam room, the first thing I said, "do you realize that we have been here since 2:40 and are just now getting seen" At this time it is now, 5:30. The response I received from her was very dismissive and unapologetic, Just "some days are like this" I don't think so. We will NEVER return to Refocus. It's obvious our time is not valuable to them. I had appt in March 2025. Before I was assured by billing dept that i do not have to pay 100 deductible. But at the time of the visit I was charged deductible anyway. Insurance adjudicated and confirmed that I was overcharged. I CALLED several times to Refocus and every time customer support assured that they agree to reimburse deductible and put 'urgency status'. This is the last time I spend see the doctors here. Today 4/7/2025 my appointment was at 3:15pm I was on time. It's now 4:48pm and I have not seen the doctor yet. They move me from room to room just to wait. I had this problem before and this is the last time I use this company. My time is just as valuable as the doctors and other patients here. Horrible experience. My new patient appointment was made under as a new patient. I came for professional help in checking out my white lashes and why they were turning white. They took my insurance, and told me that you have a right to know how much you're paying before heading into the appointment. They said there was no copay and they take my insurance, but then they billed me under as a regular, follow-up appointment. So, I called them twice (first time, they told me they're not taking off the charge) to tell them that this was incorrect in a highly professional tone, but even at the end, I left the call because it was no use. Before I did, I asked for their name. Then, it was like a switch, they actually called back and told me they were wrong. That's when they finally took off the charge. Pertaining to the doctor visit, itself, I didn't get my answer to my questions, but instead was told to come back to check out a different doctor. So, I came back, but before checking into the appointment, I asked if there was a copay, to which they said no. Few months later, they billed me again. Tired of this pathetic place that I came back to, to tell me "hahaha, I've only seen white lashes on old people, but you're not old, right?" Please!! It got to a point where I just self-diagnosed myself a year or two later after going into nursing school. I lost melanin in my eye, that was it. All they did was shine a light in my eye and basically said 'i'm not sure,' come back so we can scam for your money, or in their words "check it out." Super upset. My Mother has been going to Dr Rho for over 10 years. He is completely dismissive. He does not communicate with his patients at all. He would not even speak with us (Mom's caregivers). We decided to get a second opinion and found out he is giving my mother a shot in her eye that can not even help. The shot cost $600. He is just out for the money. This is a well run Eye practice. I have just completed my 2nd cataract implant and the whole process couldn't have been smoother or more caring...My Eye Surgeon was Dr Goyal who is well loved and respected by his patients and a legend amongst the patients and staff. This is a big practice and almost always bustling but with very short wait times. I recommend Refocus unhesitatingly and Dr. Goyal gets a 5 Star rating. read more

I am still waiting to hear from someone regarding my dispute. I tried calling the supposed owner, Sharon Campos, and even emailed her and still no response. I've reiterated that I never requested an appt. with a retinal specialist yet they keep billing me for $990. I requested an appt. for my annual routine eye exam which I've done for several years. The first appointment was great, On time, seem to know what what happening. This is before they changed to Refocus. From the time they changed to Refocus, EVERYTHING went down hill FAST. They are impossible to get on the phone. NO ONE calls back no matter how many times you call. On the occasion that they do call back they are VERY rude. No customer skills at all. They only care about getting paid. They do not care about the patient at all. I expressed all my concerns which were meet with them being offended. The wait time to see your doctor with an appointment is outrageous. This last appointment I waited 50 minutes beyond my appointment time and got maybe a minute (literally) with the doctor. ( I would hate to see the wait time if I did not have an appointment.) Seriously considered leaving the appointment. I may not be a doctor but my time is just as important. They no longer care about the patient! They have made that incredibly clear. No communication with the patient or care or concern about the patient health at all. RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN FROM HERE!!!! I would never recommend them to my worst enemy!! Beware of the hidden fees they charge and don't tell you about until its too late to do anything about it. I would NOT recommend Refocus eye health. I was with Soll Eye Associates for years and had good experiences. Since they went with Refocus Eye Health it went down. The Bustelton Ave office is a joke. There is no reason they should pack so many people in the office at a time Especially during Covid. Every time you go there you are lucky to get standing room. I was told they double book appointments. Don't know how true this is but that is what I was told. Never buy eye glasses from them. I purchased eye glasses in October 2021 and still am waiting for them to get it right. I couldn't see out of the first ones so we had to recheck the prescription. The 2nd time they we're lost & they couldn't find them after waiting over a month so they had to redo them. Waiting another month or over they came back with flaws in the lenses hair line cracks running down the lenses & they agreed they had to send them back and again. I am still waiting for them to redo the lenses month later. This is not acceptable they should have been rushed. It takes forever for them to get the glasses to you. I seen other people come in there also complaining how long it takes. If you can't do the job don't offer glasses to patients. My eye doctor that I seen for years is no longer with them. I received a letter that he was no longer with them. Probably they don't want to give more money. I've been using ReFocus for several years now, and - other than an occasional long wait to see the doctor, they've been good. The staff behind the counter are always very friendly and helpful, and the exam is very thorough. I've seen other posts complaining about the staff, but I haven't encountered anyone who wasn't professional, courteous, and friendly. One complaint: Since ReFocus bought Dr. Soll's practice, I can't seem to find a phone number to call the office directly. I've tried at least three of the posted numbers I found, including the one on my follow-up appointment sheet, and everything forwards to ReFocus' main system, which doesn't give you an option to talk to someone at your local office. This is a frustrating waste of time. Update: After leaving a voicemail with the call center, I got a call from the office. When I asked if there was a direct line into the office, I was told all calls go to the call center, and there's no way around it. Never heard of such a thing. If that's the case, there should be an option in the call center's IVR menu to connect you to your local office. read more

Sad to see a corporation bought Soll Eye me my wife and my children had been going to Soll Eye for then 50 years. They change the name to Refocus and turn a great place into a dump. This is not about the doctors this is about the office staff. Rude ignorance and no people skills at all. We now feel like cattle on a farm. So many people in the office at one time. Late to be called for my appointment time. Never ordered my wife's contact lens she waited 6 weeks after that called machine pickes up no return call. Run as fast as you can from this place. Went to the one on Bustleton and verree to see Doctor Vipin Goyal. My appointment was on 8:30am and I arrived 10min early as I was told to fill out first time paperwork. I waited longer than an hour and some change. I believe that any business that schedules you for an appointment and tell you to arrive 10 min early but is over an hour late to take you in, should get 1 star. And now they're going to reply under my review and say "say for the Inconvenience, we really care about your service" or something like that, just fix it! read more

I would NOT recommend this office. I waited for over 2 1/2 hours for a routine eye exam and the staff was very rude. After my eyes were dilated and I sat in another area for over an hour I asked an employee if she could tell me how much longer it would be. Instead of her saying "sure, can I have your name?" She rudely responded with "well I don't know who you are or what doctor your seeing?" Then when I went to check out, the front desk employee ignored me and was on Instagram on her phone. When I said something to her about it she had a fit and started cursing and said she was leaving. I then asked another employee for the girl's name she said "I don't know...". I then asked for the manager and they said she wasn't there. They would not call her for me either. Many others were upset and it seemed like once we all started talking that we had been booked at the same time. This place is a disgrace and obviously doesn't care about who is representing their business. I am sure they are going to be losing a lot of patients because of it! I was scheduled to see a Dr. Z a retina specilalist at the Frankford office I had a 1:30pm appointment, after a wait of 50 minutes I asked receptionist what's up. I was told that Dr.Z always runs late, I stated that it almost an hour and she said I only make appointments .. I finally get to see nurse who takes me back and the said it would be another hour... I got to speak with Dr. Z he said that I should have been told there would be a wait when I made appointment. I felt totally disrespected and left.. I will never see that doctor again. I give them one star because their doctors are good. EVERYTHING else about this place needs work. Too many patients, too few staff. I used to go to Soll Eye. When it was sold to ReFocus Eye, customer service dropped to a very low level. No one answers the phone at the office. It's rare to speak to a human. Leaving a message is useless, as no one calls back. You have to physically drive to the office in order to get any kind of question answered (even simple ones). Run the other way. read more

My parents have been coming to this practice for years. The doctors are very knowledgeable and good at what they do. However, the practice is way understaffed for the amount patients they pull through. In fact, the office staff seems to have a general disdain for their patients. Can't help but feel like cattle every time I step into this office. Wait times are horrendous, as others in this thread have attested to. They're generally not very responsive on the either in person or on the phone. As an example, I once had to call 4-5 times to request a pre-authorization on the prescription. I generally get a "we're working on it" with a prompt hang-up, every time I ask for status. I'd recommend a different practice if you want to be treated with a bit more respect. read more

I had floaters in one eye, they set up an appointment quickly and discovered a retinal tear in each eye! Dr Rho took the time to throughly explain and repaired one during that visit. I returned after the weekend got the second one done on Monday and drove to FL on Tuesday. I've been back for follow up visits the last one during the pandemic. I called when I arrived, they allowed me to wait in my vehicle until they were ready for me. After about a 5 minute wait an employee met me at my vehicle and escorted me to the first room. Employees were taking all precautions for safety and I felt that nothing could have been done to make it a safer environment. Very pleased with their care. Highly recommend. read more
