I found this Yoga studio two years ago. I had never practiced yoga before and doubted I would enjoy it. I was searching for a way to ease my daily anxiety and achieve deep relaxation for both my body and mind. I had tried meditation and prayer but Svaroopa yoga and specifically TERRY offered a way to achieve this. Terry is supportive and very attentive to all students. It does not matter if you are a beginner or have been a "yogi" for years, she is observant and makes sure everyone is in the proper form to gain the maximum benefit from each pose. I went to this class despite the first review I read of this studio. Being a Gyrotonic instructor I thought I'd give it a try since I had some beginner family members were tagging along and it was the only yoga class available at the time we needed. I was a little nervous having read the negative review that, at the time was the only one on Yelp. I was pleasantly surprised what I found when attending my first class with Terry. She was everything you would want from a yoga instructor. Highly knowledgable in anatomy and extremely passionate in her style of yoga. I found her confident and secure in who she was as a teacher. Her explanation of why sticky yoga mats weren't used in this style rang true from my own training that you have to find an internal strength for standing rather than relying on a mat for support. I agreed and understood the concept. Also her "hands on" were direct but gentle and gave that extra bit of stretch and elongation that you can't get on your own. The studio was clean, warm, friendly, and had a relaxing atmosphere. A ton of locals attended that were obvious regulars as Terry knew each one by name. The class itself is definitely restorative and focused on release of tension to find alignment. I find this is always needed, not only for beginners, but for a reminder and general release of stress that daily life brings on without our awareness. It is not a vinyasa flow or strenuous workout so if you are looking for that this is not the place. However you will not be disappointed with the class no matter what level because it is very focused and meditative which sometimes is a great relief from a fast paced world. I have been to many yoga classes all over the country and this is up there on the level of knowledge and technique of the teacher. I recently developed carpal tunnel and a pinched nerve in my neck and wanted to find a yoga class to help relieve some of my tension. I've been working construction for 6 weeks now (not my normal occupation) and have been in pain from the new movements and abuse. I didn't know what to expect when joining Terry's class. I have to admit, the one review kind of turned me off, but I figured I'd give it a try anyway. So glad I did. Terry was amazing. She took the time to chat with me before class and learn what my physical limitations were. Throughout the class she would address me specifically to make sure I was making all the necessary modifications. It was exactly what I needed. If you're looking for a restorative yoga practice from an instructor that's been practicing for over 20 years, I doubt you'll find a better place than Rehoboth Beach Yoga. Give it a try. This is restorative yoga. You don't need a mat. The hardest part about this class is going down the stairs. The reviewer who said they made her do things she didn't want to do must have gone elsewhere. They was nothing off about this place. I only went once because I need more than restorative but if you are looking for a gentle stretch in a nice environment this is all you. read more

I have been doing yoga and meditation for quiet some time and Terri is simply a great teacher. The studio is well equipped with great yoga blankets. Her technique is flawless, she is very patient and her delivery is simply outstanding. It was so good that I went two days in a row and took friends who agreed that this studio, with its Svaroopa Yoga technique, gives great results in a non invasive-style. I would not even consider this yoga studio worth one star. To begin with, upon entry the instructor, in my case Terry made me feel quite uncomfortable. I am not certain if the use of blankets for Svaroopa yoga is commonplace or unique to this studio. I asked if I could use the blanket as a mat and not have blankets as a handicap and Terry's response was, "No, you will experience this our way." That should have been an indication. Still, I wanted to be open-minded to this new kind of yoga. The Shavastinna was far from zenlike, Terry simply named body parts. "Be aware of your belly inside and outside. Be aware of your hips inside and outside...." On and on with every single part of our body. We move on to movement yoga. The class gets into lunge and my left hand is off the blanket, and I get cut on a shard of glass on the floor and need a band-aid because I am bleeding. Terry tells the class to go into Pigeon pose. I wait to be instructed step by step. But instead Terry tells me again to go into the pose. I ask her to walk me through it. I am partially in Pigeon pose and instead of walking me through it, she QUITE LITERALLY manhandles my body. Lifting the full weight of my hips, pulling my leg back, carrying my shoulders like a heavy grocery bag. I completely retreat into myself, make a moaning whimpering noise, and she asks me if I hurt. No, I don't hurt (physically.) It soon comes time to do Pigeon pose on the other leg. Terry walks over to me and says, "I'll try not to touch you." (You mean you might not be able to resist?) From then on Terry leaves me alone and doesn't touch me at all. At the end of class after Namaste, everyone gathered around one person, put their hands on her and said Ommmm very long three times. I did not partake in this. Her closing quotation was on being free. An interesting quotation for someone who left me in chains. read more
