This is the most wonderful, kind, attentive Dr.s office for our dogs. My big boy has epilepsy and they have done everything to care for him and for me. The short version: * Everyone working there, from the vets to the front counter staff, are diligent, thoughtful, and caring * Not only are their prices reasonable, but they are very kind and understanding when it comes to budget limitations, and will share multiple options at multiple price points rather than acting like you're a monster if you don't have $1,500 per month to spend on top-of-the-line medications * It is clearly a family-run practice that will go above and beyond, doing things like returning after they're closed to leave needed medication hidden for you, then call a few days later for payment -- The long version: I cannot say enough about Reid Veterinary Hospital -- but I will say that in more than two decades of owning pets across five cities, they are one of the two best vets I've ever had, and the monthly round-trip drive from Salem is more than worth it. After my beloved Salem veterinarian retired, I tried to find an in-town vet for my elderly St. Bernard mix, Eleanor. Most had a months-long wait for new patients; the one that took me always recommended thousands of dollars in treatment, even after I let them know I was on a limited budget. The final straw was when Eleanor was doing an odd huffing every minute or so that I mistook as a cough. I called them at 7 a.m. Monday morning. They didn't return my call until Tuesday afternoon, and said they couldn't see her and I had no choice but to take her to the emergency hospital in town. That was unacceptable, so I reached out to folks involved with OSU's veterinary hospital, and Reid was mentioned multiple times. They were able to see Eleanor the next day. The vet tech said that chest X-rays would probably be necessary, but quoted a very reasonable price. But when Dr. Reid (it's very cute that most of them are Dr. Reids!) saw her, she said it was actually a condition common in older big dog -- larynx paralysis -- and although that sounded scary, it's a slowly progressing condition and just a sign of aging. She also worked diligently to come up with reasonably priced solutions for Eleanor's arthritis while also informing me about more expensive treatments that would work once her pain progressed. Recently, Eleanor got her first Librela shot and it's been a miracle. Once, my Chewy Autoship of pain meds was late. I called on a Saturday, when they had already closed, and another Dr. Reid came back to the hospital to leave the necessary meds hidden in a door, and said they would call me in a few days for payment. As a result, Eleanor's pain didn't flare up and she was able to get through 4th of July without panicking. Beyond the great care they give Eleanor, it's clear that this is a family-run practice that cares deeply for the pets and people they serve. Everyone is kind, thoughtful, caring and very complimentary of my large, loud angel. I have recommended them to multiple people and will continue to do so. read more

We have been taking our cats to Reid Vet Hospital for 15 years. We have had 2 of them go full cycle from birth to death (and everything in between) with Reid. ALL of the vets and the vet techs there have always treated us and our animals like we are family. However it was the most recent interaction that compelled me to pay it forward and do a review. Our oldest cat (though only 9 years old) was diagnosed with lymphoma. There was very little that could be done. We didn't want her to go through pain and we kept her comfortable for about 10 days. It was a Friday night, in the midst of the Covid-19 distancing rules, and our Ninja kitty began to breathe heavily and moan. We new the end was approaching and didn't want to take the chance of her being in great pain all weekend. We called the emergency message line and left a message at 8:30 at night. Within 5 minutes we got a call back from Dr. Harrison who completely understood our dilemma. 20 minutes later we were at the Reid location and Dr. Harrison was there shortly thereafter. The bottom line is that we were treated with an almost indescribable amount of warmth and dignity by Dr. Harrison. When we had said goodbye he put the cat down with no pain and let us stay for "as long as we needed" - we left at about 9:30 on a Friday night feeling as good as you possibly can under these circumstances. i have been bring my animals to Reid for years. i Booked time with Reid over the phone for today and was told I neefee to have her rabies shot updated. When I arrived today they could not give the said shot I was told I needed, in order to have her seen for the issue I called about. Had to book an appointment for the end of next week - my dog will most likely have an abscess burst before we can get seen. I have lost faith in the establishment and the care my pets have received over the past year. I will be seeking another provider. What a shame to have such an establishes family business lose its family friendly feel and the quality of service diminish. read more

About 2 years ago, our 14 year old Chihuahua had a seizure, out of nowhere...I called the vet we'd been using for all our dogs over the previous 20 years and told them what happened. Her response, "Well we close in about 10 minutes so we won't be able to help you. I told her I could be there in about 5 minutes, but same response. I hung up and called Reid's clinic and the person asked me to bring my little buddy in. They waited for us and after checking him out, recommended we go to the emergency clinic in Corvallis so they could keep an eye on him and run tests to determine the cause. They (Reid's) didn't charge us a dime and we headed to Corvallis. We were there all night, and ended up putting my little Louie down. It was a long sad night, but Reid's now takes care of our new puppy. Couldn't be happier. I don't want to name our previous vet, but they will never see our pets again. If this rating of ONE star saves a life.....then I am happy that at least one life has been saved, hopefully more. Our beautiful furbaby was for lack of a better term...MURDERED by Reid Veterinary Hospital. Our furbaby was OVER-MEDICATED for a simple visit of pain relief. Within 3 months we lost our beautiful baby. The medication took its toll on our baby's liver and kidneys....which were in great condition according to blood work that was taken BEFORE the 3 different meds were prescribed. Only one of the meds was actually for pain. The other two were not!! We trusted this vet. This vet had excellent ratings and reviews. This vet came highly recommended. So we put our trust in them.....only to lose our beloved furbaby within 3 months!! My advice.....DO NOT TRUST this vet or any vet for that matter!!! Do your research!! If they prescribe a medication....make sure that it is safe and actually needed for the condition you brought you pet in for!! RESEARCH! RESEARCH! RESEARCH!! We wish we had done that before giving our baby the meds that was prescribed!! If we had done our research instead of trusting in this vet......our baby would still be with us. Now....I have a velvet bag with the ashes and foot prints taken of our baby, sitting on a chest with a picture sitting in front of the bag.....all that is left of a wonderful, loving pet that we cherished and miss terribly!!! **Reid....there is much more to veterinary medicine than the high FEES that you charge!! Btw....thanks a lot for charging us the emergency fee EVERY TIME we brought our furbaby in to see you....even when it was at YOUR request. Taking care of animals is about much MORE than just the money! Apparently you have forgotten the real reason you became a vet in the first place. Or....was it just about the money all along?? We love the staff and doctors at Reid Veterinary Hospital, they are the best at caring for your furry family member and their level of service is beyond what I have experienced so far in my 60yrs of having my dogs medically treated. They have been a family owned and run Veterinary Hospital in Albany for a very long time. You will love how you and your pets are treated there. I cannot say enough good things about Reid Veterinary Hospital. I wish I could give more than five stars. Not only are the staff extremely friendly and helpful, but it is obvious how much they care about your animals. I have two heelers. One of my heelers had kennel cough and the staff at Reid stayed over two hours after closing to see and treat him. My other heeler is a rescue who has severe anxiety, and they have been willing to work with him and set up appointments to establish a bond. Dr. Popowich, in particular, has been very helpful in desensitizing my fearful dog to a new environment. The prices are very reasonable, as well. Thank you Reid Veterinary staff! read more

The vet we see is wonderful but every single time we come there has been an issue with the office staff. The first visit we wanted to pay half the bill cash and half card. The staff took our cash then charged the full bill onto our card meaning we over paid by $60ish. I caught the error and asked the woman to fix it. The second time we weren't given the proper amount of medication. So I had to drive back to the office to pick up the extra meds. The staff apologized and said she "wasn't good at counting." Which seems like someone over the age of 10 should be able to do. Why would I want staff interacting with my pet's health if they claim to not be able to count? The third time I was told I could order flea meds for my cat and dog online. After few days of no response regarding my order I called the office to find out what the issue was. After 4 more calls and 4 different answers from people my whole order was canceled. The fourth and most recent issue was last week when we came in for a checkup and flea meds. The admin staff checked us out but forgot to include the flea meds in the price. We asked for the meds again and she charged us, but when we got home we realized she hadn't included the meds in our paperwork. So now we need to make another trip back to get the meds. It's super frustrating and while the vets are great the front office staff is shocking bad at their jobs. read more

I brought my two kittens in for vaccinations and exam and come to find out they had fleas and ear mites. So they were treated for all the pests and given their shots. We were all treated so kindly (even the dummy that didn't recognize fleas or ear mites), unfortunately one of the kittens had a bad reaction and I had to rush him back in for treatment. Again they were kind and quick to treat the reaction. I'm bringing the kittens back to for neutering in a few weeks. They are officially our vet clinic! read more

My daughters cat needed to get his hair shaved off because it had become so matted you couldn't pet him. I took him in for his appointment at 9:00 AM on 1/5/2022. Met with the anestheseologist, who did the grooming also. She informed me that she could do it between surgeries, which to me sounded strange. I thought we had an appointment to get it done. She also gave me a couple of quotes and my daughter selected the one which would cost around $350.00. My daughter is a single mom with 4 kids, I thought that was a lot of money to shave a cats hair down. I waited all day long for her cat to get his hair shaved. Finally at 7 pm he was done. That is from 9 am to 7 pm was my wait period. And it ended up to be $450.00. My daughter does not have that kind of money she only works part time. Not only that but my wife had the identical procedure done to our cat and it was only $250.00, and she had an appointment where she dropped the cat off then went back in the afternoon to pick her up. It was done in Sweet Home Or. I guess what I am trying to say is that Reid is overpriced, they give you a set number than inflate it so that they can get more money. They said it was higher because it took longer. Which is a lie because from the time they started to work on my daughters cat was only around 15-20 minutes. It was not my fault that the anesthesiest was so busy that day. We should have had an assigned time to bring the cat in and to get the procedure done. And they should have had a set price for doing it. I find it amazing that a small Vet in our home town charged less than half what Reid charged. Thank you Reid for fleecing my daughter and taking money away from her and her four children. Absolutely love this place! We had our first visit this morning and couldn't be happier. Dr. Heider and all of the staff were extremely kind and genuinely cared about us and our dog. Dr. Heider listened to our concerns, gave us our options, and let us choose the treatment plan we wanted to follow based on what has worked for our dog in the past. Love this place! My grandma has taken her cats here ever since I was little. My mom also took our dogs here too. When I took over the responsibility for my dachshund I knew exactly where I was going to take her and that was here. The staff is very friendly and the vets are nice and friendly as well. The prices can be kind of high but you're paying for great quality and service. I've known Dr. Reid since I was little and he's an extremely professional and straightforward man. Overall I love going here and so does my dog. I took her somewhere else for her spaying and she was terrified of the place. Lesson learned! I just got a "sympathy" card 2 weeks after my dog died. A lot late, oh yes. One would think they would apologize for the lateness, and share their feelings if only a few lines, etc. But no. I got a card signed like an "autograph" book, not one person, especially OUR vet the owner put a single word, a single thought down, just names of people. Staff learn by example, obviously they have no leader. Why bother sending autographs out? I know my dog touched all your staff the minute they met him. You were 2 weeks late in sending the card, and it was not heartfelt at all by me. Learn some etiquette, the owner is not setting a good example for you but come on........autographs? read more
