Tonight, when I was laying in bed, I once again thought of our stay here and my memory of it makes me want to go back and stay again over and over again. I had to search through my photos on my phone to remember the name of this place but I finally found it!...So many great things to say-From the couple that owns it and their hospitality, to all of the charm, authenticity, and character that this old home has to offer, to the amazing breakfast provided by the owner who used to be a chef! I still drool thinking about the eggs Benedict that she made me. Absolutely THEE BEST eggs Benedict I have ever eaten. None has compared since having hers. I would go back just to eat them and her hollandaise sauce. The rooms, too were just amazing. Clean, decorated so nicely and everything was renovated. They make sure you have everything you need as well. Just simply an amazing stay. I cannot say enough good things about this place and the owners. They're so kind, personable, and detail oriented. Regina and Fred own the inn. The are unbelievable cordial, caring and accommodating. Our room was so comfortable and we slept so well Regina is a trained chef and had gourmet breakfasts every day. She checked to make sure our tastes were met and each breakfast was so yummy. Great coffee. Cookies in our room The inn itself is an old home that has been done so nicely. Our room had a new bathroom and shower. We had everything we needed to relax. The grounds are prestigious. We rented the castle for our wedding weekend, including overnight accommodations for our family, and while we appreciated the unique setting, he repeatedly crossed boundaries during our stay. Throughout our wedding night, Douglas frequently entered or attempted to enter our rented spaces uninvited, including coming down to our side of the castle and asking us to turn off lights to save electricity. While I can understand wanting to conserve energy, several guests returned to their rooms after leaving lights on and found them off, which was unsettling and felt like someone had been in the room. We paid a significant amount for the venue, and it's hard to imagine that the cost of electricity would come close to what we paid for the event. The situation made us and our guests feel like our privacy wasn't being fully respected during what should have been a private and personal celebration. During the rehearsal and throughout the weekend, Douglas made several comments that felt unnecessary and intrusive. During the rehearsal, he told my husband and I to "act like you like each other" because he felt we weren't standing close enough at the altar, though there were much more appropriate ways to make that suggestion. He also repeatedly remarked on my hair being down, referencing medieval customs. The frequency of these comments over the rehearsal, wedding night, and breakfast the next morning made the interactions uncomfortable. Our parents and other guests also noticed how he spoke differently to the younger adults in our group, often in a condescending tone. During the reception, Douglas and Josephine helped clear plates as guests finished eating, which we appreciated. However, a few guests witnessed Douglas taking a plate of food and a cookie from our catering as he returned to his side of the castle. We weren't upset about it, but it did feel odd since it hadn't been discussed beforehand. The venue itself is stunning, but couples considering booking should be aware that the owners remain very present and involved throughout the event. Sometimes in ways that make it difficult to fully relax and enjoy your celebration.

There is a little coffee nook on the 2nd floor with a Keurig and coffee pods. They are VERY clear on the website that you must be able to navigate a flight of stairs for 300 numbered rooms. However, the best way to navigate to the 200 rooms is also up a very steep staircase. It's a historic building so I get it, and they have tried to provide some accessibility with a lift on the outside of the building, but if accessibility is a key concern you may want to stay elsewhere.

This is not a Bed and Breakfast, no breakfast voucher either - so forget anything you read otherwise - I complained about the sign that was even in the window as you walked in stating Bed and Breakfast, which they did remove the next day. Speaking of walking in - I had to push the automatic door to the lobby open (they did fix that the next day) only to find a kiosk virtual front desk (from a different town/state who knows where, that had to call about everything that required attention). After we had drove a few hours, we did get a text to warn us that the elevator was broken (so check on that before you go, because it was still broke when we left). I had booked a room specific to 2nd floor, as my wife has some trouble with stairs after hip surgery (none on first floor, and 3rd floor only has stair access). After the steep climb with luggage (We heard some poor soul struggling to get luggage up the stairs and thought he was going to have a heart attack, but he made it before I was able to get out to help). We got settled in, but before the day was over... the TV quit working. Mr. kiosk suggested the typical things (reboot etc...) that I had already tried and had to show him a picture of the screen that showed it had no connection. He said they would have someone fix the next day after treating me like I did not know anything (I worked in IT over 40 years, I can tell when a Roku cannot connect to a network). Next day, after being out all day, came in to relax - no TV still, Mr. Kiosk said we could move to another room... OK we pack up and move to a new room, and it is super cold, go to Mr. Kiosk again because we could not find a thermostat, his solution ... we move to another room that has a thermostat we can adjust on the third floor - no - we are tired we don't want to lug up another flight of stairs, we will just get out another blanket. We did get a call at that point, and I was told the thermostat is currently in another room for the whole floor, but I can go and adjust (got there and it was set to 66), so we finally was able to settle in and watch TV for the night. (They are planning on making changes to have individual controlled, but something you might want to consider). The last day was better, but not sure we will be back even though we did like the room itself. Definitely, buyer beware - ask before booking.

We came to Fairfield on an exploratory genealogy assignment. Lodging at The Victorian on Main took us back to a much simpler time. A time we envisioned how our ancestors may have lived.The truth is, The Victorian on Main, built in 1895, was a mansion compared to the homes of our early agrarian ancestors who lived in Ellery, Illinois just 20 miles away. We felt like honored guest in the home of a close family member.

One of the longest standing homes in Fairfield, the history and stories she contains are abundant. However, this Victorian is not just a great historical mainstay, but an incredible present and awesome future. The ownership of this grand lady is a family affair- Amy and Scott Boyett, Amy's adorable mom and innkeeper Miss Kathy, Amy's brother and her sister. They have restored and amplified the grandeur of the home. Each room has been designed and filled with amazing furnishings that reflect the past but provide every luxurious modern convenience that you need. During our stay we enjoyed the gorgeous Garden Suite and the Squirrel's Nest. The Garden Suite is located on the second floor. The room is so spacious, plus it has a balcony that over looks Main Street. There are windows across the front of the room, which allows for the perfect amount of natural light. The room also has a bathroom, which they have furnished with STEAM toiletries (so nice!). I loved the cozy king size bed- the pillows and linens were divine. The Squirrel's Nest is located on the 3rd floor. The room is huge. There is a sitting area, which has a very comfortable sleeper sofa. I enjoyed sitting there watching TV, while my daughter worked at the window-facing desk. According to her, it was the perfect workspace. There are lots of windows around the room allowing for lots of natural light. The bed has its own special room- a cozy and imaginatively designed wooden tent. It was created around the attic-like space, and fits perfectly. The room also has its own bathroom. The first floor contains lots of areas to relax and enjoy the company of other guests and Miss Kathy. One of my favorite things about the house was the back staircase. While the front staircase is grand, the back staircase made me feel like the home was mine. Like I knew all of the hidden nooks. To add the icing to our amazing cake of a visit... the breakfast. Miss Kathy serves a delicious buffet style breakfast every morning in the elegant dining room. There are sweet and savory options that are all very pleasing to the palate. During our amazing stay, we enjoyed being able to talk with other guests as well as to Scott and Miss Kathy. Their passion to create a place for people to come and relax really is just the tip of the iceberg. They truly have a heart to care for people. They take the time to create what each guest needs- whether that is a girls' getaway, college visit, or family reunion. They have only been open since July 2019, so they have lots more planned for the property. Jenni and I totally think that you should make your reservation today to have a wonderful stay at the Victorian on Main. I am confident that you will love it and that you will become a return guest, just like us (we are going back in July).

The caretakers Norma and John were great hosts and went out of their way to make sure we were taken care of. This is a cool looking turn of the 20th century midwestern Greek Revival(? I'm not hip to too many styles) house with lots of Corinthian columns and a wrap around porch with many rockers to sit at and look at the Patoka River and Jasper City Mill. Great looking woodwork inside and nice little decorative features in the molding and wood abound. The rooms are spacious enough as are the beds and each room has it's own a/c controls to make it comfortable to your tastes. Norma and John really stepped out of their way and were happy to let us hang out hours after check out while we waited for a bad storm to bypass us on our way home. She kept wanting to send us away with food just like your grandma wants to! I highly recommend this to anyone looking for something more interesting than the usual hotel/motel/Holiday Inn!
