I sought care from Dr. Rebecca Garbose at this facility, specifically requesting a low-dose birth control pill to manage my PMDD symptoms. She prescribed a pill without warning me of the serious risks. Within three weeks, I developed multiple pulmonary embolisms, was hospitalized for over three days, and nearly died. Had I been informed of the risks -- especially as a minority patient at higher risk -- I never would have taken it. I will never return to this facility. Providers have a duty to clearly communicate the life-threatening risks associated with birth control, particularly to vulnerable populations. read more

Why do you have all of the pap smear and thin prep brushes and other supplies just laying out on the counter?! This is so unsanitary! How are you able to keep track if these supplies are expired. Would you want your cervix examined using these? I have been to different rooms every visit and there are about 20 of each just lying on the counter! including the one they use to scrape your cervix! Gross! If I come for a visit again and they are resting on the counter like that, I'm going to take a picture and report you. The only thing still wrapped are the swabs they use to collect cultures. I have been going to this practice for about 5 years now without any issues. I had recommended it to friends. They were recently bought/merged/whatever with a large healthcare group and suddenly quality has dropped tremendously. Calling to be greeted to 35, 45, etc other callers in front of you is normal, not a rarity. Thank goodness I am not having a baby because I can't imagine the anxiety of not knowing if you could get your doctor on the phone while in labor. Another issue with the buyout/merge is that they are switching portals. My latest office notes and lab results were not on the old portal, but they are not on the new portal either. The new portal doesn't show a thing, doesn't even let me message since I have no assigned providers since I have never been seen in the practice, according to that system. I also can no longer access the old portal, so have *none* of my women's healthcare records from 2015 onwards, yay!! It has been at least a month since the last testing and there's still no sign anywhere. I was having severe lower abdominal pains that were similar to when I had cysts in the past. I could not get through on the phone, so messaged and received a call from a nurse. She said my GYN was booked for almost two months out at that point, but I could see a nurse practitioner in a week. Sure, scheduled. Well I ended up in the hospital before that appointment throwing up in pain. The hospital was useless and said to follow up with my GP and GYN, so I went to the appointment. I was basically blown off saying it couldn't be GYN issues. My GP sent me to other specialists who all said it sounds like GYN. I have now had heavy bleeding for two weeks, so it's obviously GYN related, but I'm too disheartened to go back to RHJ. It will be hell to get an appointment and then who knows if they will even care. Another issue was before the buyout/merge and before the problems I am currently having. My mother had ovarian cancer, which I read can often begin in the Fallopian tubes. I asked my doctor if my chance of ovarian cancer would decrease if I ever decided to get my tubes removed. She immediately started telling me that no one would remove my tubes at my age without kids. I have no current desire to get my tubes removed, just wanted an answer to a medical question. Answering my question should have been first priority, The perk of staying at the same practice is knowing my GYN, knowing I can expect a pleasant experience and having all my records easily accessible. I have none of these things now with RHJ. Shockingly, I've lost all interest in returning. read more

I'm sorry that other women have had a terrible experience at Reiter Hill. This review is for Dr. Matthew Peterson specifically. I saw several doctors at Reiter Hill over the course of my pregnancy in 2013-14, including Dr. Peterson. At my 39-week appointment with him, I had elevated blood pressure, and Dr. Peterson sent me to Sibley Hospital immediately. The next day he was the doctor on call when I delivered my healthy baby. It turns out I had developed pre-eclampsia, and his proactiveness probably saved my life. I saw him for my post-partum check-up and have continued to go to him for my annual exams & IUD placement. He is attentive, has a good bed-side manner and cares about his patients. read more

I am really not sure how other's experience could have been so different from mine. However I do understand that some patients may not be able to convey their needs appropriately and/or different personalities can make a process painful. Having said that - I would ABSOLUTELY RECOMMEND THIS PRACTICE. I came for a usual annual and discuss my desire to have a baby. Dr. Engel is my favorite. Laid back enough to not drive me crazy with worry and realistic enough to not give me false hope. Three months later i was pregnant and started seeing a rotation of doctors so they could get to know me in case any of them may be the doctors on call when I deliver. Though not all doctors were my "cup of tea" most of them got the job done of: - answering my questions - addressing my concerns - informing me of ins and outs of c-sections - making sure I felt at ease Dr. Peterson delivered our babygirl via c-section. Knowing he'd be our dr. For this scheduled procedure I scheduled most of my appointments with him in the later part of my pregnancy. He did a wonderful job. The front desk is busy but professional and very friendly. I have favorites there too... I suppose people will treat you how you treat them. I love this practice. read more

I've only been to the Chevy Chase office, which is busy enough that I aim for appointments earlier in the day to avoid the crowd in the waiting room. Bring your insurance card every time, no paperwork other than the first visit. Myriad of gloves for the sensitive. Prescriptions are sent electronically to my pharmacy within an hour. Billing line is answered promptly. The only complaint I have is for some of the exam room layouts, after one time the nurse practitioner didn't shut the door all the way and I had to barrel roll like a ninja to avoid flashing passersby. Referred here by three other ladyparts owners, I have to agree with their glowing recommendations for excellent bedside manner from front desk to exam room. Rarely shadowed by extra bodies, more reasonable wait times than not, patience for "Save Me From Googling This" questions, pretty good follow-up methods. Dr. Millard herself is the best, I always feel like she cares about my comfort and health without expecting her to do my pre-examination vitals. read more

I waited for 49 minutes before hanging up, and will now be looking for a new provider that I can reach. (I'll also echo others' comments that you can't get a timely appointment, and the waiting times in-person are incredibly long, which feels particularly frustrating during COVID). read more

During a pandemic, it is good practice to have patients waiting for 45mins in the waiting area before being shown to a room? The front desk staff could not be bothered when I asked what the status of my appointment was after having waited 30mins (it's like this EVERY TIME I go there) and then were surprised when I asked them to find out how much longer it would be. Total appointment was no longer than 15mins. Total wait time - 45mins. The ridiculous thing is if you are over 10mins late to an appointment, they make you reschedule (and charge you). But they can make you wait for 45mins without concern for your time. I still believe customer service should exist - and it definitely does not exist at this practice. read more

This is the most dangerous horrible medical practice that I have ever come across. I had a mammogram a month ago that was suspicious, the place I went sent me a letter a month later telling me that I needed to come in for a follow up and more tests. I asked them why it took a month from my first appointment ( mammogram) to receive a letter in the mail, and they told me that they informed my GYN right after and it was their responsibility to inform me, of course I didn't hear anything from this practice. Now I have lost a month because of their negligence. They just don't care and I'm surprised they are still in business. read more

Time for a new practice. Had been fine for 10 years, but I now feel like an afterthought, one small person in a huge practice. Do not coordinate with my other specialists for whom it is important for my health that they do, despite repeated requests. I'm always on hold for minimum 10 minutes on the phone, and oftentimes get hung-up upon even after all that time. Thankfully Dr. Andrew King is no longer with the practice. If you're going to see anyone, choose an NP. I've had significantly better experiences with them than the MDs. At the same time, can't help but feel that everytime I go the practitioner is looking at the proverbial clock trying to get to the next patient. Being at any gynecological visit is a vulnerable experience even if it's "just an annual," please treat it as such. I get it, you're fee-for-service. But at least treat me like someone who is in your care, not just your pocket. read more

Maybe the doc was having a bad day or something. I had to reschedule from the downtown location for this one next to the Friendship Heights metro (just a few blocks north of the metro). Although yes, she sat me in her office to discuss medical history, in my experience of good medical care (in Minnesota) it's standard (vs. other reviews here). After that, she didn't explain anything she was doing, in fact there was dead silence in the room despite there also being an assistant there. How uncomfortable! Also, after recommending the HPV vaccine, which I approve of on a policy level but would just like more time to think (and check with insurance coverage) before actually taking it. I told her I'd take information, and somehow was given a prescription when I left! Later I needed verification from the office for my pharmacy, and after a week of no response, I had to call THEM to find out my doc was out of town and it would have to wait another week. In a week my doc woke me up with a phone call (ok, I was sleeping in a little) to apologize and say that really some one else could've signed it, and did I have to temporarily discontinue my prescription. Lame. P.S. When I went, the office was full of pregnant women, so the emphasis may be on the OB, not the GYN. P.P.S. There are other more personal reasons I didn't appreciate my visit to Reiter & Hill, which I refrain from posting about, but I don't recommend them. 1 month later: My $40 deposit for making a first-time appointment in September was not refunded to me in October! It was a good thing I checked my credit card statement, because otherwise I never would have called their billing office to discover that the clinics had 'accidentally' made me two files, and now I am finally promised a refund back. After today I'm done. When it comes to my healthcare, there are few things I bend on, and lying and wasting my time aren't on that list. When I'm told a procedure will take fifteen minutes, I expect it to take 15 minutes. When I ask how long before my procedure will begin, and am told five minutes, because the nurse practitioner is finishing up with someone else (not even the doctor, mind you), ten minutes later I don't expect to be sitting there, half dressed without so much as an explanation, nor a mild apology. I realize I don't have MD behind my name, but my time is valuable as well, and I also have other things to do. Very nice to have heard an apology as I explained why I have redressed and left the exam room, to find everyone in the hallways having a spectacular time. Seems as though everyone should look ridiculously busy as there are clearly patients in need of care, but hey, that's just my sentiment. Hopefully, they refund my money since I wasn't actually seen, and I can use it on an office that actually values the time of its patients. I'm tired of rushing to appts to get there and then have to sit and wait, then be rushed into another room so they can take vitals and then sit and wait some more, and finally perhaps a third room to sit and wait again. It's ridiculous and inconsiderate. I understand you're trying to increase productivity by triple booking patients, but at some point a line has to be drawn. *pulling out marker* I'm not dealing with it anymore. read more

This is probably one of the worst experiences I have ever had. I don't go to the doctor frequently and I really go there when I am concerned. I made my appointment for 0800 am to be seen Before work, I didn't get seen until 45 minutes later. I don't mind waiting but I really had to go to work. I was going in for an ultrasound and the nurse that did it was (Jenny?) was rushed and short. She couldn't answer my questions and didn't say anything during the ultrasound except:"everything looks fine and your doctor will call you". My doctor was supposed to be Melanie Meyers, she's an RN, she did my intake but then I never saw her again. No one called. No one updated any information in the Portal. The problem persisted and I got super concerned. I had to call back almost a month later. I left my name in a voicemail and then got an e-mail with a very short brief message asking about the ultrasound and about my concerns. I just got an email through the Portal and nothing else. The RN never talked to me. The ultrasound technician was awful. It's time to find a new place. Please don't go here if you're looking for a Gyno that gives a crap about those of you that aren't preggo. If you're pregnant then this may be the place for you because pregnant women seem to be better taken care of. read more

Absolutely awful. I got a Yelp account just to complain about their services. Not only was it a waste of money, the doctor didn't want to listen to anything I had to say about my pain or symptoms. She gave me a lab test and told me I would hear back and it is three weeks later and I haven't heard anything about just me peeing in a simple cup. My pelvic exam was harsh, rough, and I bled. Dr. Sedgi who kept referring me to surgery even though the specialist she sent me to said I could wait, sent me my most recent test results with a recommendation to go elsewhere. Since when do women not have the right to hold off on procedures that can affect pregnancy? Their prevention approach is exhausting. Each time I saw her she threatened me with cancer. Since I'm not having a dangerous procedure done, she is no longer interested in providing care. I absolutely love Dr. Nevin! I was referred for major surgery to this practice and got an appointment with Dr. Nevin - she is the perfect combination of expert, professional and a great person/personality. At each of my appointments, I have felt good afterwards, never rushed and all of my many questions were answered. The practice supplied all of the information needed for pre-op and post-op in a timely manner including my FMLA paperwork for my job. I was confident in the advice I was given and was well-prepared for what was in store. My surgery went smoothly ... and during recovery all of the nurses in the hospital marveled at my nearly perfect incision. I'm at 8-weeks post surgery and doing great! All of my appointments have also gone smoothly ... So while I have only seen one doctor, I have to give the practice 2 enthusiastic thumbs up! read more

I had an appt for a standard annual ob/gyn exam which my health insurance provider fully covered. Before leaving the office I checked with the receptionist to ensure a copay was not required. She indicated no copay was needed because my health insurance provider fully covered the exam. I also verified that my insurance was accepted prior to the appointment. Today I received a bill for $444! My exam did not involve any tests other than the standard PAP smear. This is outrageous. Needless to say I will not be returning and I plan to file a complaint. read more

My wife had such a bad experience here that we changed OBs in the middle of her pregnancy. It was all over such a simple thing--asking for an authorization to work from home on days when she felt like she might pass out if she had to take the metro during her really bad pregnancy. We never did get that authorization, even though the doctor said he would approve it, because of what seemed to us to be ridiculous litigiousness by the practice's administration. We felt like they were prioritizing their bureaucracy over her health, and that they were condescending and treated her like she was trying to take advantage of the system when we were just scared and facing a really difficult pregnancy. Our experience started out fine--we went here for our second pregnancy because it was close to our house and our old OB was farther downtown. Early in her second trimester, my wife had such bad nausea and fatigue that she could barely eat and drink, and one day she passed out on the metro and had to go to the emergency room. She needed a doctor to fill in a form for her office to authorize her to work from home if she felt so sick she couldn't get to the metro. Here's where the problems began. They needed to see her for themselves before filling out and signing the form--makes sense. They even scheduled an appointment at the end of the day for her. But then, she saw the doc. My wife said she was asking to work from home on days she was too ill to commute during her pregnancy, not for a blanket work-from-home authorization. She explained clearly she needed a doctor to fill out the form her office gave her, not write a note. The doc left the room and said he would go get the form. Then, he never came back. He sent an assistant with the form who said he'd authorize one week of leave as needed--which is ridiculous, because who knew how long this would last (she had bad symptoms her first pregnancy too). My wife said she wanted to talk to the doc, the admin left and came back and said they'd authorize two weeks, and "really he's being very lenient here"--treating her as if she was trying to take advantage of the system somehow! My wife asked again to talk to the doc, who had of course gone home without closing this issue out. So now there was no one to sign the form at all. This was a Thursday afternoon. She called and talked to the doc Fri am, explained again she was asking only to work from home when really sick, not all the time, and he said ok he'd get the forms that day. She called again that day, and was told by the admin that the doc had a meeting with someone in the bureaucracy who said they can't authorize this for the length of her pregnancy, only for two weeks. Why? Who knows! It appeared to us this was all fear of being sued. And still no form. Then, on Monday they sent a letter authorizing two weeks leave. My wife called again, as she was very clear her office needed the form filled out, not a letter. Then they told her there was another policy that they couldn't fill out the form, only send a letter. Why? Because it was an "Americans with Disabilities Act" form and she didn't have a disability. It didn't matter that this was the form her office required, and no where did it say she had a permanent disability. Finally, fed up, we changed practices. We never did get the authorization she needed from this practice. This should have been such a simple thing. read more

Great practice! You are treated as an individual, not another number. The doctors and nurses are exceptionally knowledgeable, eager to answer all questions, and very thorough in appointments and procedures. They'll remember you and things you've told them (unrelated to your health, ex: hobbies or life updates). You'll be under great care here. The only downside is that getting through to reception can take up to 10 minutes on the phone. Perhaps this is because the quality service is so great that everyone wants to be a patient here. The receptionists are off and on in terms of friendliness, but they're probably just very busy. It's the quality service you want anyway, and you'll get that here. Don't ever go here. It took them 20 minutes and three practitioners to find my veins to draw blood. If you're 10 minutes late they will say you'll have to reschedule (despite making you wait 40 minutes for your appointment when you're actually on time). I had an appointment in the DC office and a day before the appointment I received an alert confirming my MD appointment (which I promptly cancelled). I'm a woman with no health issues and am not pregnant, but I'm very concerned for those who actually need good care. Do yourself a favor and never come here. read more

Definitely one of those "I should have listened to the reviews" moments. There were so many red flags. I should have known when I called to make the appointment and the person I spoke to was generally unfriendly and distracted... when I got there everyone working at the desk and all the nurses were the same! First of all, the office on 19th street is dingy and badly in need of renovations. I checked in with one of the five receptionists and sat there for about 5 minutes before I got back up and asked her if I needed to fill out paperwork and she responded with "Yeah. Obviously. I'm sure we told you that when you called." I kept my mouth shut but excuse me? Why didn't she give me the paperwork when I first talked to her? I was waiting there for over 20 minutes and considered leaving because I had already been treated rudely once and was now waiting even longer than normal for most doctors offices. Then the nurse came, and it seemed like she had just graduated from ITT Technical Institute with a rush nursing degree, because she didn't listen to any of my concerns and later gave me an injection that left a massive bruise. I told her I had a history of sudden weight loss and she acted like I was a hysterical woman who was stupid to be so concerned about my weight. So I was treated like a nuisance the whole time and the examination room they put me in was clearly someone's old office with water stained ceilings. The nurse practitioner I saw was nicer and very understanding but did not offer any solutions to my problems. Honestly I've been to free clinics better than this place. Update: three months later, I was diagnosed with endometriosis and a misplaced IUD at a different practice. Neither of which were even suggested here. They just told me to "keep track of the bleeding." read more

Dr. King is one of the best doctors I've ever gone to see. If I could go to him for all my medical needs, I definitely would. He is friendly and patient, and puts me at ease where previous ObGyn visits have been intensely stressful. He also answers even the most basic questions without any condescension. The staff at this office is also helpful, friendly, and professional. I have never had to wait more than 15 minutes to be taken back, and Dr. King is always in to see me within 5 minutes or so. Would definitely recommend both this office and Dr. King to anyone. read more

I visited the Chevy Chase office multiple times over a few years or so for my annual exams. I didn't request any particular nurses (not really any availability of doctors) to do my exams. I just accepted whoever was available earliest. During my first-ever visit, I had to wait in the waiting room and then in my exam room for a couple of hours total--all for a three-minute exam. For future years, some nurses were very rude while others were very nice. I never had any health problems, so I cannot comment on how the nurses handle those. The service was mixed in quality, but finding a good office elsewhere is difficult, so I stuck with them. read more

I'm really annoyed with the lack of Covid precautions. Many doctor's offices are texting people when their appointment is ready or only scheduling one person at a time. Here the doc is running 35 minutes behind and I'm sitting in a waiting room full of people. It's really uncomfortable. I won't be back here, at least until Covid is over. read more

Despite the reviews below, my experience went very well. Dr. Muagman was very informative, knowledgable, and open to questions without being annoyed (as most doctors shouldn't when it comes to your health). The only reason I give 4/5 is because the receptionist are not friendly or nice at all. They make you feel very unwelcome and like the patients checking in are burdening them. I don't think I would ever even imagine them smiling cus of how much they seemed to care less. I don't even think a puppy could get them to crack a smile. Thank goodness for my nurse Emily that greeted me with a smile and happy attitude otherwise I would have felt so discouraged going for my appointment. read more
