long slow drive out of St Louis because there might be a big load of nothing waiting at the end of this ride. took some time in Chester for light amusement and now I'm here barely into Kentucky; spent half a day driving four and a half hours. so now I'm here without access to liquor or bar food which my doctor tells me is a good problem to have. but I have plenty of warm water and clean towels and bedding and a door that locks as well. the bed is so very minimalist; no box spring, just a thick firm mattress on a metal frame. what more do you need? not expecting much from breakfast, I never do. primary objective is coffee, a piece of fruit, vitamin enriched dry cereal, toast and coffee for the win... but we add little fried eggs, biscuits and/or gravy, and yogurts. neat read more

I came here and stayed 3 nights for a funeral I was attending. I booked this place without seeing it. Upon pulling in to wasn't sure exactly what I would find. Well what I got was great service. The lady at the front is responsible for cleaning the rooms too. Everyday my room was serviced with fresh towels (which you don't see at every hotel these days). The room was cozy, and the heater worked well. The bed was fantastic and I got great sleep each night. The room is stocked with shampoo, conditioner and lotion dispensers. Room had a small refrigerator, coffee maker, and direct tv. Also had an iron and ironing board which I needed. There was plenty of lighting too. The lighting was set up so you can get the light level you want. read more

This place was A NIGHTMARE!!! We had TEN stray cats meowing at our door all night, and couldn't get any rest. We couldn't get in or out of the room without wading through all the cats. The 'breakfast' was awful, cereals were stale and the cooked food tasted like Pine-Sol was mixed in with it. When booking the room online, the 'House Rules' specifically stated that only children using a cot would have an extra charge, and that children under 5 were no charge. They also charged my card a $100 deposit that was not disclosed at the time of booking. Management had a housekeeper call our room the next morning harassing us about paying for FOUR KIDS, when we had two children and one toddler (age 4, which should have been free). We went to the office to get a refund for the second night due to the excessive cats disturbing us and the extra charges we were not aware of, and Management refused to come to the office to help us, and also refused to refund the second night because 'we didn't give them 24 hours notice'. The 'best they could do' was 'not charge us the extra $32 for the kids for the second night', and 'there's nothing they can do about the cats because people just drop them off and leave them'. DO NOT STAY HERE IF YOU DON'T WANT HIDDEN FEES AND CHARGES!!! We will DEFINITELY NOT be booking here again!! read more

While travelling we were not sure how far we would be able to make into our two-day trip before stopping, so we did not make any reservations. I had scoped out a few likely spots so as we were nearing this area at the end of our day the Relax Inn was the first place we tried. It is easy to find and close to the interstate. As we drove up the hill to the office my partner noticed a large number of fishing boats on trailers in the parking lot. We thought there may be a tournament taking place so were concerned there may not be any rooms left. Walking in you enter the breakfast area with a door to the left for the office. There was no one at the desk but they came out quickly once ringing the bell. We were happily surprised there were still rooms available, and the price was good. When asked about the boats, the friendly clerk indicated this was a typical weekend during fishing season for them. The motel is split into two parts and we were in the further one. There were fishing boats on this end as well but finding parking was still easy. The "regulars" were very good at either parking well inside the parking spots or parking on the edge of the lot so there really was no issue moving around the trucks and trailers in the parking lot. In addition, since they would be on the lake at dawn, the evening was very quiet. The room was clean if a little dated but certainly had all the amenities expected. The selection of TV stations was exceptional and should allow anyone to find something to watch. I was a little concerned there would be a lot of noise early in the morning as the fishermen left, but I am pleased to say I heard nothing. The room was quiet all night with no road noise or anything else to disturb sleep. The parking lot was almost completely empty when we walked over to breakfast. Breakfast was fine. It included biscuits and gravy, eggs, sausage patties, and fruit and cereal. The hot items are made in smaller batches so they don't sit around for long. While maybe not a restaurant quality meal, it was filling and a viable alternative to paying the price for this type meal in a restaurant. The Relax Inn was a very good choice to end our long day of driving. We had a good rest with no outside noise, a decent breakfast included, and easy access to the interstate. read more

What a great quaint hotel. We decided to stop off at an antique store and drove by Relax Inn. Called in and made reservations. The employee was great on the phone and made it easy. Went out to dinner and came back to check in. Same employee, very friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean, quiet and roomy. Very good price. Would love to find more hotels like this. read more

Too bad I'm giving this only 1 star, but they could of done better. Priced right, clean and quiet, spacious rooms. My beef stems from a faulty shower head which resulted in my inability to get a decent shower. After driving from Florida and arriving in Kentucky on my way to Illinois, I really needed a hot shower. I was unable to enjoy a shower because the spout stem to pressure the water upward toward the shower head was broken. I wrote to the company explaining this and not one response did I receive in return. Now I know this isn't earth shattering or gut wrenching global news; but heck, next to comfy beds I believe a hot shower is the next best thing. Follow-up..... The owner responded to me by offering me a $15 dollar discount on my next visit. Really!! Admitted that I was correct that the plumbing was bad. He blamed me for not contacting the front desk at time of check in. Well, consider this Professor, I already took the stuff out of my car and brought it in. Spread my toiletries out. Went to dinner. Then I decided to shower. Well golly, next time I decide to spend the night in one of these hotels and receive my $15, I'll definitely ask if the shower works first off. I wrote the following review on TripAdvisor after a poor experience. Their policy is to provide a $50 security deposit for "incidentals." After we checked out, they charged the deposit rather than returning because they claimed we had a pet in the room. Again, we did not. In finally speaking with management, I was told that they would "try" to watch the surveillance footage to see whether we brought a pet into the room, but that they were busy and didn't know that they would get to it before the footage expired. I was also told they would show me pictures of the pet hair. They did not. Their surveillance video only saves for 14 days. When I called on day 13 to see if they had watched it, they had not. I was also told they would not return my deposit. They refused to view the defiitive proof that we did not have a pet. I call that bad business. My advice if you choose to stay there: give a cash deposit, get a receipt, and accompany them to your room when they review it so you can be sure to get your deposit back. ******* THE $50 SCAM May 2023 We stayed here one night while traveling through, and it was okay as far as the room goes. HOWEVER, I feel like we have been scammed. Upon check-in, we were required to leave a $50 "incident" deposit, cash or credit, to be returned after our stay if there were no issues. We were told our card would not be charged unless they found something wrong with the room, and that the authorization would simply drop off in three days. Well, they CHARGED THE CARD, claiming we had a pet in the room, which we did NOT. The desk clerk tried to connect me with the manager who had pushed the charge through, then told me he was unavailable, possibly for a couple of weeks. When I asked to get the name of another manager or the owner, the desk clerk was very hesitant. This is supposed to be a nice, family run motel based on their website, but the desk clerk had NO empowerment to help. I'm not sure if that's due to policy or his own personality. No matter which, it felt very fishy to me. The second we were asked for that deposit, we should have turned around and gone elsewhere. Very dissatisfied and extremely upset. Day of arrival the asst. manager called to reconfirm. He asked if I had children or pets staying. I informed him my 12 year old has a service dog. Arrived at Motel and was told I needed to pay for my "pet." I explained the ADA and that a fee was unlawful. Then I was told they had only 1 pet friendly room for the type of room I had reserved. Whatever. Not usually an issue to stay in a pet friendly room. This was not the case here. Upon opening door, the smell could knock you over. Smelled as if a large dog had been kenneled in the room for an extended period of time. Large stains in carpet visible from door. Bedspread had a large tear. Door of bathroom was clawed up along with the door jam. Entry way carpet had also been dug at and damaged. I returned to the front desk and requested an alternate room. The desk clerk was new and didn't know the ADA Laws so he took my request to the assistant manager I had spoke on the phone with. Instead of following letter of law, I was told that people fake service animals all the time and that is what the people claimed about the dog that did the damage. Damage is one thing, uncleanliness is another. A deep shampoo of the carpet would have been a step in the right direction. No refund. No alternate room (not even a pet friendly room of lessor value than the room we had reserved). I was sent with a bottle of scented spray. Room was NOT clean mfortable to be in. The smell was very overpowering. There were coins and misc garbage left on shelf from previous guests. I'm not convinced room had been properly cleaned. Housekeeping woke us at 9 am for service. I have additional pictures of the large stains. However, they are too large in size to upload to this questionnaire. I would have loved to have my money refunded so that we could have and stayed elsewhere. Instead, I'll be filing an ADA complaint. read more

We are retired couple traveling to visit family in Aug 2021. We picked the Relax Inn on line due to reviews and cost. We were not disappointed. Area is safe and quiet. It was easy to find. Staff was helpful and friendly. COVID regulations were observed. Our room was clean, bed and pillows were comfortable. Size is about the same as you would expect for this price range, we didn't feel cramped. TV, AC, microwave and fridge were all there and all worked well. We parked right in front of our door. The property is just about a mile further down the street from the shopping area and this was a plus. read more

Saying they allow animals is misleading. When you check it they hit you with a $30 charge and give you a "dog room" in the back with brick wall views from the window. The morning breakfast was non existent when it advertises a hot meal. There was no coffee left by 7am (hours 5:30-9am) all the pastries were gone, and the biscuit gravy was all flour tasting. There was a buzzer to press to get the attendant........ nobody showed up. We had t start out journey with empty stomachs and had to go to a gas station for coffee and sodas. Their one soda machine was out of order and has been for so long that a permanent sign was erected next to it explaining it didn't work!! read more

I play music, and when I need a hotel room, I don't want to blow my gig earnings on a room; that said, I travel alone, so I MUST have a safe and secure place to stay especially coming in well after midnight after playing a show. I was playing near at Lake Barkley last weekend and did a Google search and found the Relax Inn. The ratings were solid and the price was right, so I booked the room. I was SO pleased. I don't need fancy - just clean and safe and this hotel exceeded both... the gentleman that checked me in was very kind and gave me a room next to the office... it was quite nice with a fridge, microwave, etc. and when I got in from the show around 1 AM, I was SO happy to see how incredibly lit up it was - I felt completely safe. I 100% recommend this hotel and WILL stay there again. read more

My family and I go to the Venture River Water Park every year! And we always stay at this hotel they are the cheapest rate that have the free 2nd day water park ticket option they are note having the continental breakfast right now due to the pandemic but trust me it was a major factor on why we stay there. But even without the breakfast its still worth staying because they are so nice and so attentive. The only thing i wish they had was a pool but hopefully they will one day regardless we will continue to stay there every year!! read more

This is the absolute worst hotel in the world I will never stay at a relaxing anywhere in the United States. The management was disrespectful rude and arrogant. The power had gone out there was no generator to back up the hot water or the lights. There weren't even emergency lights in the rooms to help us get out in the dark when I asked for a refund for the evening that was without power I had to fight to get less than half. to make matters worse friend of mine who was continuing to stay was then kicked out for having company drop off a cell phone charger while him his girlfriend and their young child were self quarantining away from everyone. read more

Towels adequately thick; bed comfortable, The breakfast was helpful, but they've got nowhere near enough chairs for peak times. Overall, just as good an experience as a midrange chain, and appreciably cheaper. Support a small business and give them a shot. read more

Everyone I had contact with was very nice and helpful. The room appeared clean but a little dated. My complaint is the lighting in the room was very dim. I had all the available lights on. While the bathroom was very bright and great, the rest of the lights had the least bright (2-8??) CFL bulbs. Very depressing atmosphere. read more

Do not be deceived by the exterior of this place. At first glance I thought I had done terrible research online when booking this place. When we checked in the woman at the front was extremely polite and attentive. We got to our room and were pleasantly surprised to find that it was nicer than some hotels we have stayed in. Everything in our room looked brand new and was exceptionally clean. No bed bugs...no bugs at all actually! The beds were comfortable and we were given more than enough pillows which was great for our two night stay. The room was complete with a flat screen hd tv, fridge and microwave. They were able to provide us with everything we needed! Unfortunately it rained and we were unable to check out the water park down the street but luckily the room had HBO and dish tv. We were set to go! The breakfast had a decent selection of cereals, bagels, yogurts, oatmeal, and sausage/eggs/biscuits. Our check out was quick. Overall no issues, great stay (especially because there are not many options around kuttawa). I definitely be going back if I'm ever near kuttawa again!
