I recently followed one of my favorite acupuncturists to her own new practice. Jessica Chen, formerly with The Tao of Wellness ( I believe she practiced there for 12 years), is an outstanding acupuncturist. She has been treating me for several months at the Tao. I always loved her positive energy and warmth and was sad to see her go from The Tao. One day, my schedule worked out perfectly to see her so I decided to check out her new digs. She is located in a prime, easily accessed spot - directly across the street from The Fairmont and caddy corner to the 3rd St Promenade in the red brick building. Her office is light and airy, an oasis from the hustle and bustle. You can pretty much walk there from any point in the area, and then shop or have lunch afterwards. Most importantly, she is just so good! Her practice includes a variety of techniques: acupuncture, herbs, cupping and some massage are the way she has treated me thus far. No matter how frazzled I am when I arrive, I quickly fall into a deep and peaceful sleep with her considerate touch and expertise. I always feel extremely rejuvenated afterwards, and pain free. Dr Chen is an expert. She specializes in fertility issues and has worked alongside physicians and fertility specialists for years. She is also a master at alleviating back pain. Conveniently, her new practice can directly bill insurance too- which takes a lot of stress off the patient. I love how open her new office feels, her practice is expanding and it feels so special to be treated there! If you are curious about acupuncture, she is a great start and if you are familiar and know the good from the bad- definitely call her because she is amazing!! I've known Dr. Chen for a few years. And she's my 6-year-old's acupuncturist too! You may know the fact that if you take young children to see their pediatricians for a common cold or flu, or a tummy ache, you pretty much will get no treatment except for a "drink water and rest" advice. So I started to take my daughter to see Dr. Chen when she was about 2 years old. My then 2-year-old was very brave to have her 1st " needles" with Dr. Chen when she was suffering from a bad flu. Dr. Chen was very patient with her. She would talk to her in a very calm voice, make up some story to distract her, count numbers with her to see how long she could have needles left in her... Dr. Chen would also give me sound advice on what to feed her, what preventives I can use, ie. essential oils or kids vitamins, to make my little one feel much better instantly! Which were super helpful to get me through the 1st year of preschool when kids can get sick like non-stop! And best of all, my daughter LISTENs to her advice on food choices!! As soon as I remind her "I wonder what Dr. Chen would suggest between fries and broccolinis...?" She would know what's better for her body! As I sit to write down this review for one of my favorite TCM doctors and people in the world, Jessica Chen, I feel an overwhelming sense of gratefulness for her in my life! I started seeing Jessica for regular treatments almost 8 years ago when she was a senior traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) doctor at the Tao of Wellness in Santa Monica and continue to see her now at her own practice at Create Wellness. I was hooked on TCM and Jessica in particular, when I saw her first for a personal female health concern that was offered to be treated by my regular doc with a steroidal treatment (ugh) and I sought TCM instead to give it a shot- and voila- the effect was quick and positive. After that, I decided that TCM is an alternative medicine form I am going to incorporate into my life and she is the doctor I always choose to see....for numerous reasons! Her manner is warm and comfortable and her care is focused and specific. She asks many questions, listens, takes detailed notes, and has always been responsive and open to providing answers to the numerous questions I've asked her over the years. Her passion for her vocation and her unwavering belief in the power and benefits of TCM comes through in our sessions and has been evidently demonstrated as I've walked away from her acupuncture sessions with a brown paper bag of Chinese herbs that have healed my sore throats, alleviated my fevers, banished my colds, calmed my tummy, helped straighten some female issues, relieved aching/spasmic muscles after an injury----and the list goes on! I've always walked away feeling better and cared for. Jessica & TCM have been my first stop to help prevent a cold/sore throat or treat it so I don't have to take on antibiotic (if I can avoid it).
