A true gem. A store that has been here for several years and managed by the same two sisters. A holdout of what the consignment shop from years ago was, and still should be. I have picked up quite a few things in here and all at reasonable prices. Display pieces styled nicely and while not for everyone- definitely on my standard rotation. Downstairs are items for the home, old and recent. If you read a review that says the proprietor isn't friendly and that is a concern to you - don't go. She's not there to make friends, she's managing a business and probably has enough friends! Vintage, classic pieces and totally worth checking out. I'm a fan. read more

Renaissance is a small consignment store run by two sisters. The street level carries women's apparel and accessories, and the lower level carries furniture, home accessories and tchatchkes. This review is about the clothing and accessories part of the store. I've done very well at Renaissance over the years and have found some great items. You can really score at their end-of-season sales, when a lot of the merchandise is 50 percent off. I once bought a Carmen Marc Volvo sequined short dress for $24 at one of those sales. I've bought Eileen Fisher clothes there at great prices and a few months ago I bought a Ralph Lauren leather belt for $9. I usually see new garments with price tags mixed in among the other items. Renaissance carries pretty jewelry too, and shoes and handbags. If you're in the Maplewood-South Orange area it's worth stopping in, and if you have time you can drive to Doubletake Consignment in Short Hills afterwards. (Doubletake carries more high-fashion merch, like Gucci and Prada.) Renaissance Consignment's prices are very fair -- no complaints about the prices. There's a communal fitting room in the back. They don't take credit cards so bring your checkbook or cash. A children's consignment store is two doors away. read more

I love this store and when I lived in South Orange I shopped there often. As an interior design junkie, I was always drawn to the downstairs area filled with artwork, furniture, flatware, decorative objects etc. Their prices are insanely good as in this place has to be a labor of love because they aren't trying to rob people- they really are trying to spread the wealth (and beauty). The two women who run the shop are very nice- each with their own distinct personality. Never would've pegged them as sisters, it was interesting to read that in some of the other reviews. If you're sick of antique shops that charge a ridiculous amount of money for items you know were secured at a flea market or estate sale for the tiniest fraction of what they're asking- shop here. Their stuff even seems under priced if you ask me, but that's part of their allure. 5 stars is an easy thing to give this business. Good job ladies. read more

I found the selection tired and the saleswoman was most unfriendly. She didn't even acknowledge my presence until I asked her for help. She then acted as if I were bothering her. An unpleasant experience. Go to DoubleTake instead. read more

Nice selection of contemporary but not trendy clothes. Eclectic interesting furniture and knickknacks. Saleswomen are not all over you, but are friendly and helpful when approached. Great sales. read more
