Stayed at this hotel twice within a week on my way to/from Inuvik. Pool has reopened. But staffed Starbucks outlet is still nowhere to be seen. It still has the "under construction" kind of feel. Rooms were quiet but the lobby area was quite noisy and noise spilled over from the bar area. Still couldn't quite figure out what the lounge area near the elevators are for. read more

Decent location for the Renaissance brand. Their hotels are usually dependable for cleanliness and comfortable. This one is no different. They are an airport hotel so it's within walking distance for departures and arrivals which is very convenient. They lobby is actually not on ground level so you have to take an elevator up to the lobby level. There's a club lounge of some sort as soon as get off the elevators. I didn't have access to it but it looked like coffee, tea and light snacks. There are also large conference rooms as well. The check in desk and bar/restaurant is also on this level. I ate a burger from the restaurant and it was decent. There was also a Starbucks in the lobby as well. The rooms were decent sized and comfortable. Clean S well. This is wear the hotel loses a star. There was loud and annoying music blaring almost in all of the public access places all night and day. Not a good idea there. The music here is too loud. read more

This seems like a very nice Renaissance Marriott. The location right inside the airport cannot be beat for catching early flights. I arrived at 1100 AM well before checkin time and my room was ready. I was also greeted with a smile which is nice. The room is modern and well appointed. The Montreal Airport Marriott could learn from this location. The bottom line is that I will make it a point to stay here on the last night of any trip to Edmonton. read more

Attending an event at this hotel, we decided to book a room for the night and not have to worry about having drinks and driving home. As part of the event, we received a discounted rate of $149 which is very reasonable for this beautiful hotel. We arrived at 4PM to check in and glad there was ample parking. Going through the front doors, we continue into the next set of doors but didn't see the check in desk. We were informed we had to go to the second floor for check in. At the desk there were 3-4 employees and we were warmly greeted. The process was quick and we were informed that parking (we traded in our parking ticket for a new one) and basic wifi were complimentary. The staff even accompanied us to the elevator. Excellent service! For security, the room key is required to access your floor and only allows you on that floor. This is a great feature for those travelling solo and as it's easily accessible from the airport, the extra security is a great feature. The room was lovely! However, there were a few things that didn't appeal to me and the reason why I didn't make this a 5 star review. The walls in the room are very white. It made me feel a little institutionalized. The view wasn't ideal as it faced a few large white storage tanks and a parking lot. But this is the airport and not much to see. The room had a safe, fridge, tea and coffee k cups and machine, and 2 water bottles. The bathroom had a large shower but no bathtub and wall of jeans! Nice, clean, and new. The sliding door for the bathroom didn't lock and if someone is taking a tinkle, it can be heard in the other room. The hotel has a pool, hot tub, and gym on the main floor. The pool area isn't humid and doesn't smell of chlorine but very comfortable with the loungers. The second floor offers a restaurant/lounge, beautiful library, meeting rooms, and also the pedway to the airport. The pedway is only a few minute walk and so convenient! There also a small retail section which carries the Violet chocolates! On the 6th floor there is a hospitality suite which would be great for entertaining. There's a living room, area with a sink and glasses, bathroom, and bedroom with a seating area. Would be great for entertaining. Being close to the airport, the sound quality was excellent. We didn't hear airplanes, or other guests entering and exiting their rooms. There's also an evening turndown service where they give you little chocolates! This is a lovely hotel! I would rate it 4.5 stars if I could. It's part of the Marriot family so you can get member points. read more

I would like to give it a 3.5 . A very good option if you have a very early flight and don't want to wake up at 3am to get to the airport for a 6am flight. Very clean, comfortable and literally a 10 minute walk all indoors to EIA. My only critiques are: signage isn't clear to getting up to the lobby from the main entrance (in the back off the main road) and the tv cable is not good (yes, I still watch regular tv :-) ). Would definitely use this hotel for the next time I have an early flight. read more

The hotel was nice, ultra Euro-pop feel. Synth/pop music playing everywhere with modern styling on everything including the curated art throughout. Rooms were excellent and clean. Great water temperature and pressure in shower. Excellent electronics and TV (except the outdated iPod docking station). The staff was excellent and the value was very good for the accommodations. Unfortunately I had some people next door who yelled and screamed and hit the walls, but that wasn't the hotels fault. Overall a great place to stay. read more

Aside from the aspect of being on vacation, hotels generally don't excite me as they all feel sorta blah with the industrial carpets and boring decor choices. However, the Renaissance in Edmonton attached to the airport is pretty slick. They did a tremendous job designing this hotel. When walking in I first felt this was going to be the usual hotel fanfare but with a more modern feel, however, there's more here than meets the eye. Edmonton is known as the Gateway to the North and there was a lot of thought put into the decor around this theme. The carpets with subtle snowflake designs, the whites, grays, blues, silvers that make you feel you are walking in a winter wonderland including the chandeliers and even the wall near the restaurant with the dancing northern lights motif. The rooms are large and continue the subtle theme of the hotel. Turn out the lights and then turn on the reading light and shine it on the mirror on the wall and you'll have snowflakes all over the room. The beds are very comfortable and have super soft and silky feeling sheets. If you're curious about the jeans wallpaper in the bathroom, apparently Edmonton had one of the first Levi's factory long ago. It's a lot of these artistic touches that truly impressed me about this hotel. Views are either of the runway facing Edmonton, and I guess the other side has a prairie view. There's a comfortable workout room and pool/hot tub area, and they have a great library near the check in desk to sit and relax if you're flight isn't leaving for a few hours. They've got a fantastic restaurant in the hotel which gives a lot of fining dining menu items. The presentation of the food is also very artistic. Staying here doesn't just have to be a bed close to the airport, it can be looked at as a night at an art gallery. Book your stay here and see what else you can discover! read more

I do not give out stars cheaply but this one is deserved. I travel a lot and often am either arriving late or leaving early. Having a hotel attached to the airport is brilliant. What's better is the extremely friendly and accommodating staff. And every room is the same- ultra modern, very comfortable with nice amenities (ex. aveda for the bath). The fitness room is large and it has a good size indoor pool and hot tub. And besides a Starbucks in the lobby, there is also a restaurant where you can either sit in quiet or a rather loud but energetic lounge area. This Renaissance hotel did this one right. read more

Hotel 4*, catering & events 2* (emoji stars not allowed?) Started this review Aug 2014. Apologies for tardy posting. 8-) Open for 4 months, there are some beautiful features, from the lighting, the carpet, washrooms, to the eye candy decorating. Even a relaxing space for a library! A little unusual to enter from the ground floor - the check-in desk is in the second level-which makes sense if you are coming from the terminal! Attended a Yelp Elite event at the hotel Aug 2014. First impression... Lovely! Greeted by Trae. Such a sweetheart! Validated our parking, directed us inside, and was at the door sending us off at the end of the night with his friendly smile. Pool was secured by swipe when we arrived-luckily there was a staffer nearby to swipe us in. Seems an unfortunate start to the evening if you are expecting a group for an event. Started out Poolside, served lavender lemonade real lemons (yay!), a teeny bit sweet even for my candy tooth, as well as an orange float with vanilla ice cream - yes please! Oh there's beer in the ice cream. Granted it was locally source Hogshead brewery. Any plain ice cream? No. ?!? What about people with religious and dietary needs? I'm celiac-it's not optional to eat gluten free. Nice touch, Infused water on the table how nice! Mixed with the lemonade was a great combination. Ok appetizer-welllll really more of an amuse-bouche. Created with salmon, wrapped in a buckwheat crepe. Great! Except they added flour to the batter. Why?! Buckwheat is gluten free! My companion said it was good, ate two in fact. Friends reported the jets for the hot tub weren't functional even though the staff attempted to resolve it. If you were expecting guests for a pool party, wouldn't that be something to check? After the party we adjourned upstairs to the Halo lounge. There was to be several courses, people were eating, but darned if we could get some. Drinks come next - the snappily dressed gentleman brings over a delicious martini with sage and edible candied hibiscus flowers. Finally a gent cruises by with cheesecake(?)... ok dessert first. Is that gluten-free? He is not sure. Shouldn't the wait staff know? Looks like not, so I decline. Turns out there's pretzels in it. Ok. Not getting any of that I guess. Next someone comes by with confit turkey poutine. Smells good-not usually gluten free. I decline and ask if there's a gluten-free version. The gentleman says he'll find out for me and disappears. Salad! Oh gosh finally! Candied pecans, cranberries, goat cheese or feta-never did find out. Server didn't know if it was gluten-free, but went to find out. Returned and said it was gluten-free, excellent! Served on a bit too much bitter green things that look like seaweed. Delicious dressing, unfortunately, the best and only thing I'd eaten so far. The first serving gentleman did come back (yay!) and would be 30-45 minutes to get a gluten-free poutine, did I want one? Yes please. Not knowing the schedule for the evening I requested it, but I might not be here when it arrives. We tried approaching the bar for more drinks, to get the attention of a server to get food, and without success. One of our group tried to get a drink at the bar and reported back about the not working debit machines, and the low level panic/chaos going on. We figured we'd just wait it out. A bright, beautiful beverage appears! A smoky concoction with a tobacco simple syrup. A single large ice cube chills the drink without watering it down. Oooo candy! Delicious! We had a moment with our hostess and she made sure we got to sample the missing dishes - a breaded chicken on a skewer, clearly not gluten free, and a bison donair in a pita, sigh. Also not gluten-free and no options were offered. At this point my gluten-free "poutine" arrives. Ok, without gravy this is not poutine. Cheese curds were cold and hard, heat from the fries won't melt curds. The confit turkey was tender and tasty. Kudos they identified the fryer wasn't safe/gluten-free so they chose to make pan fried... but sadly unsuccessful, not quite cooked through. Water... oh please, we just want water. A jug on the counter perhaps-we couldn't even get that from the bar. Luckily-Tanya (?) from New York stepped in to help out. She brought us glasses of elixir. After we moved up to the 6th floor for games, but a glitch meant we needed the "human key" to get there. The room seemed pretty soundproof-excellent news if you stay here. As a party suite, the washroom has a glass sliding door but it doesn't lock - oops! Ushered out a little early so housekeeping could clean up for a photo shoot... we departed admiring that each room has a doorbell, door sweeps, and sweet wall plaques guiding you down the hall to your room have subtle ice glacier etchings that catch the light as you approach. I'm sure eventually the catering and service issues will be unkinked. I look forward to re-reviewing next time I visit FlyEIA. read more

Don't let the fact that it's just an airport hotel scare you away... it's wonderful being so close if you have a late arrival/early departure, and this hotel is very luxurious. The rooms are clean, modern, and spacious. I love the Aveda toiletries! Very comfortable, I felt like a princess with the beautiful mirror on the wall and the fun lighting. The lobby is just as great as the rooms. The restaurant has amazing flatbread and Brussels sprouts, excellent quality food that's unique and delicious. I love the fun seating options as well. I would definitely recommend the club access, it was nice to use for breakfast and a late night snack. read more

Last week I went to the Renaissance Hotel for lunch in the Halo restaurant and was lucky enough to get a tour of the hotel. Gotta say the rooms blew my mind, especially the penthouse suite... just wow. But let's start at the beginning. The pedway from the airport itself into the hotel is a long corridor with lots of windows, so you don't feel like you are walking through a tunnel, it's bright and open and has different coloured lighting along one side. This is supposed to represent the Northern Lights and it does make you feel like you are being transported somewhere magical. Apparently for weddings the lights can be changed to the bridal parties colours schemes for photographs, which is a really nice touch! At the end of the pedway, it's not somewhere magical, it's Starbucks lol But I can imagine if you have a silly o'clock flight that could seem pretty fantastic at the time. There is a lot of locally made and designed pieces of artwork to spot as you continue towards the reception desk. Everything is trendy with nice clean lines, including the bar area, library space, a lounge to chill in and the computer area with macs set up for anyone to use for free. Emergency boarding pass printing, ahoy! Many, many board rooms of all sizes and the tables are topped with fake diamonds for decor. It's quite fabulous! The wall coverings were my favourite, so many different designs from the jean prints in the suites, to their award winning bathroom with rose wallpaper, it also has one of those sofas shaped like lips. This place has so many random items throughout - there is so much to look at. The bedrooms are lovely and they all have a mirror artwork on the walls with a light designed to bounce off onto the ceiling and create mood lighting. Giving every stay a bit of ambience. Beautifully designed place. Apparently every room is sound proof too, which is great since it's actually within the airport! The best room undoubtedly is the penthouse, it's so beautiful. It's more like a large apartment and I would quite happily move in today. Jacuzzi (obvz), walk in shower (obvz), giant bed (obvz) and it had a large round tale for seven people to comfortably sit around, in luxurious armchairs. I could imagine doing a fancy scotch tasting here. It's just amazing. Only downside is the views. Duh! It's in an airport but with so much going on in every room, who's looking outside? read more

One of the most refreshing hotels I've seen in a very long time. Hopefully the future of hotels. Walk shoeless down the hall for ice and enjoy the softest carpet! Smartly decorated from entry hall to bar, to front desk to rooms. Sharp mirror art accentuated with lighting for a wow effect when entering the room. Spacious and comfy chairs and nice writing area. Lots of plugs and ample lighting in the room. Not a fan of the frosted sliding glass door that doubles as the closet door. Also not a fan of the asses wallpaper in the bathroom. Tile entry and in the bath, carpeted room with coffee maker, teas, fridge. Throw pillows area nice touch. Enjoyed the ipod port. Room was quiet with no sounds from outside. Weak shower, but it was nice, with a glass wall. Had dinner in the bar with a friend. Good nachos but not nearly enough cheese. the turkey Ruben was good and I loved the fries. Seriously?? We check in at midnight, beat after flying from Hawaii. We repeatedly dialled every button on the phone after waking up, with no answer on any of them, to order the $21.00 breakfast, only to find out they were rebooting their system and now it was to late to order breakfast, no exceptions. Here's a suggestion, try rebooting your system in the middle of the night, not when people need the overpriced services that you supposedly offer. Now there's some customer service, start day 2 of your return trip home with donuts. So much for airport hotel convenience! NOT! read more

Excellent hotel!!! Very clean. Nice rooms and decor. Bed was super comfortable as were the pillows. The lounge was open late for food and drinks as well as it easy to just walk into the airport and go to the 24 hour Tim Hortons if you are super hungry or in need of a coffee. I was totally impressed. If ever in quick business again I will for sure stay here. The front desk was very friendly as was another employee when I checked in and was kinda lost finding the main reception that should be better labelled from the ground floor! The only complaint I would have is the air freshener you are using across the lobby and I realize a lot of hotels do this but I found it way too over powering! But still 5/5 !!! Loved it! Had a phone call for an interview . Before I accepted the interview I asked a few questions pertaining to the job . The lady that called me that was to do the interviews seemed supper annoyed at my questions . All I asked was how many hours per week , what are the hours etc . I told her when I was free to come for the interview . She gave some attitude and said she will call me back and hung up . Never called me back . I was shocked how unprofessional she was for this hotel chain . Won't be visiting this place ever or ever recommend anyone apply . It was an event that brought my very being to this hotel. I must admit - it doesn't look much on the outside and its surroundings but the inner decor was beautifully design on a very modern scale. I love the fact that it has a sort of library aka living room setting area next to the bar and reception. Beautiful! I could live in it for as long as they would allow me. (^.^) The little tasters we had was below average. Nothing that says "have more of me!". The services were all pretty pleasant and friendly up till the point of our games session in one of the rooms. We were literally kicked out of the room pre-maturely and unprofessionally. Everything may seem all nice and dandy for a start - but they have failed to make a positive lasting impression to the very end. The importance of such basic business etiquette of making good first impression and the final impression have sadly not been practiced by the staffs who were in charge for our Yelp Event. read more

We usually hit this place for lunches and events, and occasionally for drinks. It's always welcoming and a great place to hang out. The food is a bit more pricey, but the care that goes into it, with as much locally sourced items as possible, makes it better, if you ask me! It's ever changing and dynamic. With a focus on the local, this Renaissance has a northern vibe with lots of white and smooth surfaces in the lobby, and rich comforts in the rooms. If you have to pick someone up at the airport, just park in their parking lot and get your parking validated while you have a drink or bite to eat inside. There is a bridge connecting the departures level with the main hotel lobby, and you don't have to jockey for position in the pick up loop in the front! Win! If you're local, you can stop in for lunch/dinner/drinks and have parking validated for free was well. They want locals in as much as travelers! read more

Everything looks fantastic and they've done many things well. Given this I'm amazed that they failed so epically with their music in the restaurant in the mornings. Rock and roll? Really? It's disturbing, annoying and disconcerting. Does not set one in a proper mood for the start of their day. Makes me want to run away. I can't talked about this hotel without bringing up the awful music. It ruins your breakfast morning The beds are nice and firm, lots of bedside lighting to read or do things without disturbing anyone else in the room. Amazing! This hotel really blew my mind, and for it being fairly new (opened in May 2014) I enjoyed the hotel that much more! Located literally at the airport, coming here I thought I was going to be checking inside the airport, but there was a separate exit for the hotel. There is actually a tunnel that connects directly to the airport. How convenient is that! Now you may think that if this is located at the airport that it'll be pretty loud and hear all the mayhem of the planes, surprisingly you don't hear anything at all. The design and decoration of the hotel overall has a modern, classy, almost bachelor pad feel to it. Lots of white, grey, blue tones that are cool to the eye and still feel inviting enough to make you feel at home as well. The rooms are dynamite! Comfy bed, fluffy pillows, lots of charging stations, and of course a banging HD TV and awesome shower. Oh yea, there's also a iPod/phone speaker located by the bed! Hotel party! Hahah jk! Everything about the room was just pretty awesome! Check out the lobby too, I personally loved it! Whoever designed it and did the interior decoration, I give you a big round of applause! Fitness center was amazing, and made up for the food ordered at the Halo Bar; With the eclectic atmosphere I was somewhat shocked to find such a boring menu of uninspired dishes?! Not even any Sushi? **Yawn**. I just stuck to the cheese and crackers in complementary snack lounge after napping through one disappointing trial lunch of overpriced salmon, calamari, and a horrid corn-bean soup de jour at Halo. Bed was very comfortable and relaxing, but room doesn't come with a comfy desk chair. Don't plan on lots of work in the room: This cost one star, I'm sorry to say. No half stars. read more

We checked out this hotel during a Yelp Elite event in August 2014. Upon arriving the hotel didn't wow from the outside driving up but I guess that can be a bit of a tall order when your hotel is located on an airport. It probably has better "curb appeal" arriving from the interior airport entrance I would suppose. Once inside though it is another story. This is definitely a boutique hotel with a lot of cool design put into it. It is very modern and chic hotel with a lot of thought put into incorporating our climate and canadiana into the design. All of the staff we met were very helpful and friendly. The pool and workout areas looked great and should be up to par for a trendy hotel for jet-setters. The second part of our party took us to the Halo Lounge. We did experience some service issues but that could be due to a big group of Yelp Elites descending upon them all at once. They should have been prepared for that however so they lose a bit of points there. I would hope that under normal conditions their service would be acceptable but for us this night it was sub-par. Service was slow to our group mostly. The final part of our party we ended up in one of the suites, and it was an awesome suite at that! I'm not sure if it was a standard suite or an upgraded one but I can attest the one we were in was pretty swanky. Going into the hotel from the airport almost feels like stepping into another world, with the coloured lights and ambient music. Lots of beautiful areas in which to relax, loads of places to plug in one's electronic devices, tasteful yet trendy. I would definitely love to stay here if the opportunity arose. read more

As my employer paid the cost of this hotel, I cannot attest to the affordability, or lack there of, of this hotel but I can tell you it is swanky. It's location within the Edmonton Airport allows for guests to easily make their way to their flights. Walking up to the lobby from the terminal you may believe you are entering a time machine back to Studio 54 as the hallway is light up with flashy lighting and music Blair's over the speakers that line the corridor. Upon entering the lobby you'll find a lovely hotel bar/ lounge that actually could be mistaken for a night club. Plenty of great seating areas flood the may lobby floor along with a business center complete with Mac desktop computers. Staff are helpful and go the extra mile. There was a mix up with my room and the manager personally walked me to the elevator and explained the card sipping system in the elevators that allows access only to actual hotel guests ( a great security feature that more and more hotels are adopting these days) and other hotel amenities he thought i may need or like to know about. I guest he thought it was my first time in such a modern hotel and while his extra attention was unnecessary, the gesture was greatly appreciated. The room did not disappoint. It was impeccably clean, the bed were like sleeping on a cloud the in room coffee maker consists of a Keurig and the toillettries in the bathroom are Aveda products which this girl truly appreciated. The hotel comes with all other amenaties you'd expect such as a gym, pool and restaurants not to mention the slightly cheaper option of airport food courts a short walk away. All in all a great hotel to use on a long layover or a short nights rest before and early departure. Only downfall is that being at the airport you can hear the sound of aircraft landing and taking offf although the sound proofing is quite good considering. Also like I hinted to the restaurant is pretty pricey. Oatmeal can run you $14 CAD but I suppose that comes with the real estate. read more

Brand new hotel at the International airport makes it easy to catch those early AM flights!! The second floor lets you check in & leads you down a corridor to the airport. They have a pool & hot tub to soak those sore bones. Place looks ultra modern & the food is delicious!! read more

Nice rooms and hotel but will never stay here again. I left notes on a table in the room, as well as a bottle of liquid medicine (not anything crazy like pain meds or what not) and the maid threw each of them away. I needed the notes for work, and the medicine was on the bathroom sink counter next to saline solution and mouthwash, yet it vanishes? There wasn't even a do not disturb sign available to put on the door. Awful hotel. read more

Just stayed here this past weekend to celebrate our wedding anniversary again this year because we enjoyed our stay here so much last year... Once again we were blown away with how amazing this hotel and the staff are! They really went out of their way to make our anniversary unforgettable! They as usual set us up with a great deal we were able to have both parking and breakfast included in our rate which really is a phenomenal deal because you get to order your breakfast off a really impressive menu *side note the original pancakes are absolutely to die for! My husband loved them so much he even ordered a second order! We couldn't resist *i ordered the side fruit and requested melons only as I find most berries hurt my teeth (the stupidest seeds) and they were more than happy to accommodate my request. And they gave me so much it was heavenly! *our server I can't remember her name but she worked in the bar side and it was her first time working a morning type shift and serving breakfast, she was so helpful and kind I was really impressed with how helpful and attentive she was! We originally thought we would be staying in the same room we had last year which we loved but this time when we headed up to our room we were surprised we had to keep walking down the hall until we reached the very end, when we opened the door we realized they set us up with a king suite it was AMAZING! It was huge, there was a living room with thus super comfy couch and huge t.v. With floor to ceiling windows, a little kitchen space with a fridge, plenty counter space and a keurig coffee machine. The bedroom was massive with a huge t.v. Plenty of floor to ceiling windows and closet space. With a massive ensuite bathroom with a giant oversized shower! Lastly I just want to finish up with all the staff are actually so kind and helpful literally everyone from I think his name was justin (sales manager), the servers in the restaurant (as mentioned above as well), the restaurant manager who came over and talked to us at breakfast can't remember his name but he was really cool talked to my husband about working out... The front desk staff Hasitha, Minette and Shiela also so helpful and awesome left us wanting to come back ASAP. I'm sure we will be back soon for a birthday or something cause this place is well worth every penny if not for the hotel its self but for the exceptional customer service! I really wanted to like this place. It was so fun walking in with the high energy music and colorful lights. And the staff was lovely-the only reason I'm giving it any stars. We got into our room, which was 76 degrees, turned on the AC and headed out to dinner, hoping it would cool down by the time we got back. When we got back it was no cooler so we called down to the front desk and they sent an engineer up. He messed with it for 20 minutes, got it working and left. 15 minutes later it turned off and it was still 75 degrees so we asked to be moved. They put us in the exact same room, one floor down, and again the AC didn't work. They moved us a third time (it's 10pm by now) and that AC didn't work either. The engineer came back and got it working, but also mentioned this happens to 2-3 rooms per shift-that's a problem!! It did keep working and we were finally able to go to bed but it was super inconvenient. With all of the moving I lost track of my travel guide (didn't make it out of the first room) but luckily housekeeping had it for us the next day-I really appreciated that. Again, the staff was great, but I expect more from a Marriott property. read more
