The worst venue EVER!!! Besides the fact that they have no parking whatsoever, and a valet parking company that takes your car someplace - The wedding ceremony was held outside around the corner. There wasn't enough seating for everyone so only family could sit. They had no way to get to this area from the inside without going outside. STUPID! Now to the venue. The place itself is very pretty, but totally impractical. There is marble everywhere, stairs too. Problem? Stairs have cracks in them and I almost fell down the stairs because my heel got stuck in a crack on the steps. There's what looks like a bucket open "elevator" that was out of order. How the f**k do you have a venue that holds 250 people with no working elevator. Plus everything was on different floors. There were elderly people and some with canes, that had to go up and down the stairs. Ridiculous!! Can you spell FIRE HAZARD? The "cocktail hour" - if you could call it that - was practically non-existent. There was no place to sit and there was 2 small trays of food - one with fruit and the other with rolled up salami on a mozzarella "stick" or wrapped around a sesame bread stick. Looked like something you'd find in a supermarket. All small amounts. Maybe there were 6 little bistro tables with 2-3 chairs at each table. Certainly not enough room for all 250 people who were in attendance at this wedding. The bar was a joke as well. Couldn't get a glass of water it was so packed in the lobby area. Do you see a way to get out of this venue should there be a fire? I didn't. From the lobby floor area you could look down on the tables where everyone will be sitting for dinner. There were salad plates at each place setting that was sitting out for at least 2 hours before we would be going down for dinner. Seriously?? Soggy and small. Yuck. There was just 1 bartender in the main dinner area. The bartender couldn't even get the drinks right! Now the waiters come around to take your order off of the menus on the table that the bride and groom chose. We were hopeful that all the food would be good. First course was Pasta alla Vodka. Trust me... this was NOT Pasta alla Vodka. There were these dark bitter herbs (tasted like Tarragon!) all over the pasta that was gross. Plus the pasta was so over cooked it was mushy and falling apart. Main course didn't fair much better. I got the salmon which sounded yummy from the menu. It was drowned in too much sauce and still managed to be dry. Plus the portion sizes were a joke. My husband got the steak which was also small and overdone. Others got the Chicken Marsala which sounded like it would be good. It was not. The music. The bass was so loud that you couldn't even decipher the song, and the music bounced off all of the marble ceilings, walls, and floors! You couldn't even hear yourself think it was so loud, let alone trying to talk to someone right next to you at your table. After hearing later that this sweet couple paid $30,000 for this atrocity makes me so mad for them. This is by far the WORST wedding venue I've ever attended. H O R R I B L E !! read more

I have to say Maritza was amazing. From when we went to see venue and throughout the process. Very accommodating and understanding. We came to see the place in February of 2023. I instantly fell in love especially those stairs. We went to two other places and i knew i wanted my wedding there. The day of Maritza took over made sure everything went smoothly. Had our dinner plates available her husband was also a great help. I only wish i understood in details her position since she did amazing with everything . I only say that because i hired someone to decorate and paid more because she assured me she would be there the entire time to make sure everything ran smoothly but there were a-lot of issues with that. If i knew Maritza would be taking care of all that which she did amicably. ( including taking care of my bussel) lol I wouldn't have paid so much for the other person only to decorate. Considering there were unfortunate mishaps on that day. Things nobody could've known and didn't expect looking back now I'm not percent sure it was handled correctly. But I'm sure nobody predicted that too happen and they weren't sure how to handle it. The food was okay nothing to brag about. And Theo not reason i didn't give it 5 stars was because during cocktail hour it was extremely hot upstairs. I asked about the air conditioner. Lisa was amazing to work with! From the moment we visited the venue to meeting her, she has been so accommodating. The venue itself is beautiful and grand, a lot of our guests were impressed! There were plenty of food going around during cocktail hour and Mike, the bartender was on top of everyone's order the whole night. The reason why I am removing a star is because, when we arrived early to set up, we were told the color of our linen did not make it and were sort of forced upon another resolution which we were not happy with. Decor The venue has a nice and elegant touch to it, with modern tones. It's quite a photogenic space. The space is the ground floor and the basement with the basement being the primary event space. Most of the space is completely open so the ceiling is very high. Food Honestly, the food was a little lackluster. Options were minimal and flavor left a bit to be desired though the food was cooked nicely. Service The staff were very courteous and quick to clear empty cups and plates. Though interaction was limited, they seemed very attentive. We used this venue as a surprise birthday for my brother. It was fantastic. The space is incredible, very modern with great lighting and a cocktail area that is the balcony to the main event space. There is a lift to get back and forth for those that need it. Lisa was our point person from start to finish, and did not miss not one detail. She is the person you want on your side at your wedding or event. You can tell she's very experienced in what she does and understands the space. She also had no problem letting us decorate how we wanted. The food was great too! We did the buffet style and the steak was cooked to perfection. Do not hold your wedding here. Cocktail hour (6:30pm) was a mess, the space is not optimized for moving for 200 people, even 100. The servers with the finger foods were sparse and the moment a new batch of food is poured out, it's gone. It was not enough, so imagine the number of hangry guests there was at 10:00pm when the main entrees were still NOT served. Now if we waited 3 hours for the main, you'd think the food might at least be edible. The food was cold, dry, and awful. The wait staff was not trained. I had my wedding at Renaissance Event Hall and it was the best choice I could have possibly made. Lisa and Maritza are beyond amazing. They worked closely with us to make sure that we got the wedding of or dreams. I had people coming up to me all night telling me how much they loved the venue and the wait staff. The staff was able to accommodate my Grandma, who has trouble walking, was able to be served from the buffet. They even prepared plates for my husband and I so we didn't forget to eat. Lisa and Maritza made sure the people in my wedding party were where they needed to be and were able to manage all of the logistics so we could just focus on enjoying the wedding. The event ran exactly on time and the staff executed every part of it without missing a beat. Looking back on it, every bride always wonders what they would have done differently for the wedding. I can confidently say that I wouldn't have changed a single thing and that is all due to having our event at Renaissance. I was in attendance yesterday to an event held here. While the staff were masked meeting all Covid safety protocols and valet parking was available which was nice other things weren't so. Let's start with bathroom cleaning. As the night went on it was clear that no effort was made to keep the women's restroom (I cannot comment for the men's) but there was used napkins, beverages, unclean stalls. Dreadful. The guests were a contributing factor to this but no one from the establishment checked as there were staff members just waiting around doing nothing who could've cleaned the restroom. Now let's get started on the food. While the cocktail hour selection was nice it would've have been better if the items that were passed around that were meant to be hot were at least warm no cold like they were sitting around. The affair was a sit down dinner with a choice of entree. Steak, chicken or fish. The only thing that was good was the salad. The pasta dish was lukewarm and we waited around an hour for our entree to arrive. First was the steak, that seemed charred but at least it was hot. The scalloped potatoes were dry and the asparagus was over cooked. The chicken looked better than the fish because of some paprika coloring but the fish (which was my entree choice) was the last to arrive and that was no where near what snapper looks or taste like. It arrived with a strong fish smell. It was tough and the edges were dry. It seemed that it came from a frozen precooked package and maybe microwaved due to its toughness. After such a long wait we'd hope that cake and coffee would help since it's now really late and many in attendance had rather long drives. Cake but no coffee. I had to ask for a slice as none was served by me. While the venue space is quaint the food and lack of cleaning were big negatives in my book. If you're looking for a space for an event I'd suggest you look elsewhere because this place was a major disappointment. read more

We've been planning our wedding here for the past 7 months and while we are two weeks away from the big day, I felt compelled to leave a review. We are incredibly pleased with the venue and service of both the planners & wait staff. The professional standard they hold for the servers and staff are very high and are met with big smiles. We attended two tastings that were wonderful. Any feedback we had on changes to match our palette were well received and accommodated. The horderves are DELICIOUS!! Our last stop on the Venue tour was the Renaissance Astoria. Fiance completely fell in love with the place based on the photos. It reminds me of a nice restaurant in Tuscany - pale marble floors, dark wood panels, a large bar, modern textured rock wall, uplighting, red carpet, detailed iron grating. Its a gorgeous space and definitely newer than many of the others we visited. In addition, they can accomodate the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception. The blessing and the curse of the Renaissance is the layout. The first floor opens from the door to the bar area. Then the floor drops out in the center and the sides form a mezzanine balcony over a central atrium. Its gorgeous - but logistically inflexible. With a wedding as large as ours, we would have to seat a third of the guests in the mezzanine, away from the dance floor and the rest of the guests. Cocktail hour would also have to span both levels, and they would open two bars to accomodate the traffic. We also had th option of letting cocktail hour spill over into the sidewalk, but the neighborhood isn't really nice enough where I think that would look nice. The menu sounded tasty and can include wedding cake and open bar. There were four options that we could make changes to and gave us just enough flexibility without being overwhelming. However, it only offered eight hor deouvres, where I had seen 10-12 in other venues. The price point was true to the range that I had researched. Do note that the ceremony fee is a bit high, but probably fair considering what you'd pay for Manhattan. I would totally recommend the Renaissance to weddings for under 150 guests. The communication isn't stellar (we had a few email mishaps), but I think day of would be gorgeous. read more

Checked out a wedding experience event here. As others have mentioned, it's definitely a random location for a "formal" venue with car service shops and 99c stores neighbors. Inside, I really couldn't see a wedding experience despite the mock wedding set up. Even if you capped guests to 50 people, with the servers/photographers bands it's going to be tight. The bar is a bottleneck. They also set up a projection screen so that it's directly above guest tables- ie, the people sitting below can't see. It looked like the dance floor and carpet ratio was fixed so you couldn't flip the layout. The projector was definitely fixed on a pole. The horsdoeuvres were ok. Did not stay for the buffet dinner. Small venue that might suffice for a sweet 16 or something but I wouldn't consider for an occasion as special as a wedding. read more

I went to a wedding on Saturday and I was completely disappointed. The food was horrible and cold. The food was taken away far too soon and didn't allow all the guest to eat or return for seconds. Also any left over food was not allowed for guest to take home . The venue staff did not come to see if guest needed anything so as predicted the service was horrible. They need to hire a new bartender because for her to make so much money on tips the whole night she was on her phone and took so many smoke breaks. The food was fantastic, and there was plenty of food left over. I needed many lighting adjustments throughout the event and they were made immediately. The servers during the event were immensely kind and helpful. The event coordinators were very flexible with pricing as well. I just read the response left by the establishment. It may be years after the fact but I'm sure it hasn't changed. They are not at fault for any of the issues I experienced. It's apparently always the client who created the problems and resulted in an unhappy experience. *insert eyeroll here* I was seated on the upper level and did not receive my food until the lower level all finished. So much for upper level being served first. Unless they want to blame the client on that too because everyone wants their wedding guests to be completely forgotten. My table was not missing a seat but missing food for a person when their order was clearly taken. This is their poor management. This has nothing to do with the client. This is entirely the establishment's fault. It went from I might recommend this place for consideration because it was cute. But now, I wouldn't even pretend I remember this place because they will always blame the client. Never deal with places like that. You'll save yourself a headache. read more

I'm not sure why they've received so much hate on yelp- but definitely look through Wedding Wire and theKnot- there are plenty of satisfied customers, including me and my husband. Renaissance Event Hall was the 3rd and last venue we looked at and it was definitely a breath of fresh air and a sigh of relief all at the same time. We were looking for a place to do both the ceremony and reception for 120 people. Not only did Renaissance fit the bill in terms of space- they also have many packages and options for every price point and you don't feel like you're skimping when you choose some of the more thrifty packages. At 120 people, we felt that the space was intimate but not crowded- all of our guests were able to fit nicely in the 13 tables for the reception. While there was plenty of space on the dance floor for everyone to dance all at once- it was not so big that it felt awkward when only a few people wanted to dance. My guests all felt it was a great romantic - but not over the top venue (i.e. no gaudy chandeliers) Brenda made us feel really taken care of - she not only listened to what we needed and wanted, she also offered plenty of solutions and advice when we were faltering in some of our decision making. Communication and responsiveness was really top notch. The food was really great and something that my husband I cared a lot about- they were flexible in adding tacos to the cocktail hour menu, even though they didn't offer it. My parents and guests are still talking about the roast pig carving station- it was so delicious and well prepared. They definitely listened to our feedback from our food tasting and incorporated our comments very well. There was some sort of miss-hap in the kitchen that led to a delay in some of the food being served for dinner- but the staff was so apologetic. In the end, it was handled in a way that our guests didn't really notice even though I was worried about the timing. I have been to a few weddings in my life and most of the venues I have been to leave a lot to be desired. This place, however, takes the proverbial chocolate lava cake. Food: the cocktail hour cheese spread was standard, but the responsive servers who walked food all around and the bar tender who ensured that everyone who wanted a drink got one were the true heroes of the evening. The Greek salad, pasta appetizer, beef/salmon main course, and chocolate cake were all lovely. Service: as mentioned above, amazing. There were more than enough servers for sure. Decor: the space itself is beautiful, but I wish the tables would be more spaced out for convenience of those walking in and out. Even the servers appeared to have trouble walking between tables! My fiancee and I were initially planning to have our wedding here later this year, but unfortunately we had to cancel our reservation due to a serious issue with the food. We liked the customer service, as the representatives were very professional. We put down our deposit to reserve the date, and thought everything was good to go. We then scheduled a semiprivate tasting event because their regular tasting event didn't feature many of the menu items we wanted on our menu. Mind you, a semiprivate tasting event is when the food is supposed to be at its best. Unfortunately, shortly after we left the venue, my fiancee had 13 hours of running to the toilet repeatedly. Neither myself, nor any of the other guests reported any issues, but as far as we're concerned, one person (my fiancee) going through 13 hours of you-know-what is more than enough reason to cancel. The venue declined our request to have our $1,000 security deposit returned. We signed a contract indicating that the security deposit is nonrefundable, but under the circumstances, it's really sad to see that they didn't do the right thing and refund us anyway. So I was there last night 12/16 for your typical holiday party and things were good until..the catering staff started bussing the tables. Usually when you go out, they will take the dishes away from the table but HERE they rest the dirty dish tub on top of your clean table linen and place your dirty glasses into the tub in the presence of the guests! I was astonished but that wasn't the worst part.. Dessert time- slices of red velvet cake were placed on a large platter and the server dropped it off and said "Serve yourselves"..excuse me...last time i checked we paid you to do that..(thats what i thought..not said lol) There was one piece of cake sitting on my table for a good 45 mins..stale.. and while he server collected the dirty dishes (with the dirty tub rested on the table again..) another guest at another table states she never had cake..he took that stale piece of cake from our table and gave it to her. Only god knows if someone sneezed or nipped at that piece. I sat from afar watching this lady eat this cake..smh. Overall, I have to say I wouldn't have my future wedding or any events at this place..BUT thats just me. read more

Very nice venue for a wedding I attended here recently. The only thing I think it needs are some more decorations against the back wall. Maybe some tall branches or some kind of foliage. Food was excellent, Meat was slightly overcooked but everything else in buffet was cooked perfectly and tasty and staff was very generous with portions. Staircase, balcony, piano player, and open air dining all very nice touches. I highly recommend to book here an event within the next year or two before the venue gets beat up. The Renaissance Event Hall hosted by Company's Holiday Party in 2015 and 2016. They were professional and the food was very good. The place is a lot smaller than in the pictures. The tall ceilings and balcony areas give it a much grander appearance. We almost had to cancel our 2016 Holiday party because that year, the snowfall had clogged drains and caused flooding in the hall which is below street level. Thankfully, the staff rushed to get the floors all dried up. I guess they've had this problem before and have a fleet of wet vacuums, because the place looked liked nothing had happened when we arrived. The party did start 2 hours later, but they extended the party obviously. The staff was gracious the entire time. Brenda, Benard, and the rest of the Renaissance Event Hall (REH) team were fantastic from start to finish. REH provides a menu of options, which allows for each couple to customize their experience. You can choose between a buffet and sit-down dinner, a range of courses (including or excluding dessert), and multiple alcohol packages. Additionally, they permitted us to bring in additional vendors for part of the dinner and dessert, and make last minute changes when necessary. As for the wedding day, Brenda was present day-of to ensure everything ran smoothly. There was a member of the wait staff (Diana) assigned specifically to the wedding party; she ensured that everyone had a drink in hand and was wonderful the entire evening. Guests raved about the food, and genuinely had a great experience with all REH staff members and facilities. At the outset, my wife and I were skeptical that a beautiful wedding could come at such a moderate price tag. But REH proved us wrong. This is a great place! I attended my cousin's wedding there last week (among 200+ other people) and was surprised in a very pleasant way (which doesn't happen often, believe me). My husband and I recently held our wedding reception here (september 2014) and I must say that my day was absolutely amazing. I found this venue after looking around online and after seeing the venue in person and discussing the available packages with Jessica, I was sold. The venue is very nice inside (even though there is some construction going on next door and scaffolding) and is more like a restaurant than a "hall." I was able to create a menu that suited my guests and culture (African-American, Hispanic etc) and we chose to have action stations and a buffet style, which worked perfectly. All of the appetizers and food was served hot and there was much more food than me or my 70 or so guests could eat. The venue let us start setting up very early in the day (our event was on a friday), and didn't rush us out the door when the reception was over, which was very much appreciated. Jessica was there to help us set up and stayed with us most of the night. After she left, there were people who stepped right in to make sure that everything went as planned. (I had a wedding day coordinator so if there were some sticky situations, they were not serious enough to bring to me.) The price was very reasonable considering the fact that we had a ton of food, open premium bar all night, and the tables, chairs and linens etc were all included. As a point of reference, it was cheaper than anywhere in manhattan, and cheaper than the hotels in the LIC area. The venue basically provided everything that we needed and all we brought were the centerpieces, wedding cake (which they could have made), and we also chose to bring our own uplights because we found a cheaper price for the lights online than what the venue charged. We had a coat check and although there was plenty of street parking in the area, they also offer a valet service. I should note that we had a large band and a DJ, which I swore would not be able to fit on the stage, but they fit! Additionally, I saw some reviews about food but our food was amazing (see the pictures) and was served on time, albeit buffet style. We also had a fairly small wedding, about 65-70 total including the vendors, so we fit perfectly and everything ran smoothly but it may be harder to stick to a schedule for larger events. Finally, I never had a problem getting in contact with Jessica or scheduling meetings over the 9 or so months in between the time that we booked the venue and the wedding day. We came here for a wedding and it was underwhelming. The inside where the ceremony takes place is gorgeous (hence the 1 star) but everything else needs work. The outdoor space has a green "grass" wall that leaves much to be desired - with wires hanging out and lights musings. There are not enough tables for guests to rest their plates and drinks. The overall layout for cocktail hour is horrendous since you have to walk all around the "U" to get to it all. Cocktail hour was not satisfying - a big flaw is leaving guests hungry and not having enough food. The worst was when the meals were being served. There was almost a 2 hour delay from the first table being served to the last. We did not get our entire until 9:30pm! I felt bad for the other tables around us as they waited for their plates. We left by 10ish - the dessert/cake was only served to the first few tables. If you are looking for a venue, stay away from here. read more

Just 3 months old, Renaissance Steakhouse is a real gem in this area. A really beautiful restaurant/banquet hall used for private events (weddings, etc) on the weekends as far as I can tell. There is a nice balcony overlooking the dancefloor or you can sit in front or outside the restaurant also. They are very new and are still working out some kinks but the food is excellent and the atmosphere matches. I've eaten here twice and been really impressed with the food thus far. It is cooked perfectly and decently priced. Clearly they have a talented chef. The menu is usually small and changes each time I go, but I like that, it shows me what is fresh and it is good to change things up. It's not a typical steakhouse, they offer far more than just steak and seem to be heavy on the fish. That said, the steak is excellent. I've had the Filet Minion and the sirloin (blackened on our request) and they were both excellent, tasty, cooked perfectly, and lean. The Filet Minion was really out of this word. It was a filet, wrapped in bacon, topped with cheese (Roquefort perhaps, maybe blue I forget), fried onions and onion rings. Overkill for sure, but fantastic flavors and textures. The crispy onions and the soft caramelized onions are a great contrast, really work with the meat, cheese and bacon. Yea this is a meal you shouldn't order more than say once a year, which may not be a problem, as it was not on the menu the 2nd time I visited Renaissance. For appetizers I've had a salad, which was huge and very tasty. The calamari in tempura batter was extremely tender calamari, not chewy at all. Perfectly fried in a great tomato sauce. Not a large appetizer and a bit steep for $11, but excellently cooked and very tasty. My fiancé loved her Shrimp stuffed with crab with a lobster sauce. Great flavors, cooked well. The only problem is that it did not come with a side dish, yet the other entrees came with a side dish. The last time I ate there I had the baby lamb chops. Not a large portion but cooked and seasoned well, served with spinach. Good dish. Overall the service is a bit slow, but they are very nice and the food is just excellent. The prices are decent, better than many steak houses in NYC. Highly recommended for a great meal, but only if your not in a rush, this is dining. They also have a nice bar, and show movies on Tuesday nights. read more

Don't throw a wedding here. Service is pretty sad to the point it's laughable. As I am writing this review, a server throws forks across the table in preparation for dessert. The food is terrible and awfully slow, they really need a new kitchen staff. Steaks, chicken, everything is over cooked. Even the molten lava cake has no lava! Hair in food. There are so many screw ups that it's too many to list. I had the feeling that service was poor from the moment I dropped off my car at valet. It's an embarrassment. read more

Idk how this party got booked but they had the worse drinks for rum and vodka 6 dollar liter bottles horrible. The type to make you vomitt and crash your car off of one drink. The DJ sounded like he did only few events before and has horrible sound. Idk why they had big speakers that looked like they wasnt working i guess. The place looked really nice but smelled like feet. Also the food smelled like feet and was wack and lame. I had burnt potatoes with skirt steak. The toast was good but idk why they put paprika on them. There was no need. They had a emergency light that was hangin off its cord. It was small so i dont think it would have killed anybody. The bathrooms were nice. And had good workers except for the tall lady who smelled like death. This one server kept asking me what was wrong. He was nice. read more

I came here for a holiday party. The parking is horrible in this area. So if your coming here for an event making sure to plan accordingly with your ride. Valet was full by the time I arrived so I had to drive around for a while to find an empty spot almost as if I was searching for Waldo. Which means damn near impossible to find. Once inside, I was ready to remove my coat but then the coat check was full. So I had to carry my coat around. Very annoying, considering its winter time and I have a huge coat on my side like I'm walking a dog. I must say that the place was decorated nicely. There's a bar to the right when you walk in and there are a few steps to the right and left to lead you to a balcony area, or should I say the VIP section. They was a stairway straight ahead that leads to the dance floor and the male and female bathrooms. This is definitely a nice venue to have a party or a social event. I can't speak to much about the rental fees and times but I was pleased with the setup and space provided for the event and would recommend it from a patrons point of view. read more

Very Great Venue but the worst customer service and hospitality. I called to make an appointment to view the venue and the representative was cold and not responsive. I still was able to make my appointment. The day of my viewing with the representative she told me I could not book the venue yet due to not having a manager and the prices was subject to change once a new manger was on board. She informed me to call back in 3 weeks. She did not have copies of her brochures i had to take pictures of her brochures with my iPhone. After my viewing she did not even show me out i have to venture out on my own. Being that I love the venue I followed up only to be told different news which was I could not book because it was early yet in the 1st meeting I was told this was a great time to book. please save your time. Clearly they are under new management and they can not work as a team to please their customers or future customers. read more

Great venue all around with a very friendly and attentive staff. Definitely a great venue to throw a wedding at it to attend one. Layout of the hall is very beautiful and the two floor setup gives it a very sheik look. Food is surprisingly good, and was some of the best food I have had at a wedding. The pasta is usually the worst part, but here it was a highlight. They did seem to be pushing the fish a little hard tho. read more

We just had our 30th High School Reunion there in April of 2011. The facility was just perfect for our get together. I don't think there was anyone there who did not enjoy themselves. The facility was clean, perfect ambience, food was excellent, as were servers. Loved the decor and the atmosphere of the place. When I am back in NY again, I will for sure visit it again for dinner with my wife. read more
