Nobody got rowdy and the atmosphere was fun. They provided a limited menu of corned beef sandwiches and Reuben sandwiches plus a kid's menu. They had music, including an excellent piper. Shamrock is a soccer-focused pub and is probably Ground Zero for big tournaments. My only suggestion would be to have plastic bags on hand for those of us who did carryout (five sandwiches + chips). It was the worst margarita I've ever had unfortunately. While there was plenty of alcohol in the drink there was absolutely no margarita flavor. I had 2 sips and my husband gave it a try. You just need to point your own car toward Sarasota... to Tamiami Trail, just south of University. Step inside the Bahi Hut and you're back in 1955... plus one. This local landmark dates back to 1954 and bills itself as Florida's oldest tiki bar. I'm all in for it! Outside, it's a small, cement block building with retro font lettering, right next to a vintage motel. (Perfect, if you'd had too many mai tais!) Inside, it's tiki perfection... with dim lighting, Polynesian decor and that swanky feel you can only get from mid-century modern. In my head, an instant mashup of "Bali Hai" and xylophony lounge music. When I opened the door, everyone blinked-adjusting to the sudden light-and instant realization: it's actually 2025. Well-outside, anyway. Right away, I was greeted warmly by the bartender. It was about 2pm on a Friday and fairly empty, but I know this joint is jumpin' later on. The bartender recommended the mai tai... allegedly Trader Vic's original recipe from 1944. Oh, it was good... and strong. I appreciated the presentation, history and the taste. But I opted for something different for my second drink (the laminated drink menu was a joy to behold). I went with the gorgeous blue "desert flower," which is tequila based. Ooo, that was good, too... and so pretty. Two will definitely do ya, here. I had already eaten, so didn't try any of the food offerings. But I did sip slowly and chat with the other time travelers and tropic seekers who wandered in. It was exactly what I wanted it to be. Besides bar seating, there are tables in two different areas and a great merch collection that I need to go back and study. There's also a giant thatched tiki roof (not as vintage) and patio. They need the space, since there's karaoke on Thursdays, live music on Fridays and Saturdays and drag queen bingo on Sundays. There's also a happy hour, Monday thru Thursday, from 1-6, I believe. And later this year, the Tiki Fever Convention will be held at the Bahi Hut and next door at the Golden Host motel. (November 2025) I'm not sure I can make that, but I will definitely be back. There's plenty of parking-and that big menu to work through. Cue the xylophones... and I'll see you there!

I learned about Growler's Pub on Yelp when my husband and I planned a weekend trip to Sarasota from…read moreMiami. We were happy to find out that Growler's was right near where we were staying, so we headed over on a Saturday evening during happy hour ($1 off drafts). Happy hour on Saturday? I'm ready to move to Sarasota. The atmosphere inside is nice and casual without being grimy. Even the bathrooms are clean! The bartenders that we had were awesome -- friendly and helpful. We enjoyed a couple of beers and although there was sound background music playing, it wasn't TOO loud to have a conversation, like a lot of bars (at least in Miami). There's no food at Growler's, but the bartender suggested that we order from one of the nearby restaurants and have them bring it over. We ended up leaving to eat, explore a bit, and then return to Growler's later that night for some live music. However, we did see some people order food and the restaurant nextdoor walked the food right over. Around 9 or so, a couple of bands started playing. It seems like a pretty cool place where new artists can get a start. One of the women who played said it was her first show ever. The bands were pretty good and the bar started to fill up as the night progressed. If we return to Sarasota, we'll hit Growler's up again for a laid back night.

Friday, January 16, 2026 - Two for a burger bite. Not before the FST show…read more (GOSUB to the **** for the meat/burger of the review ((smile)) ) I have reviewed about 30 restaurants in and around Sarasota since 2021 when we moved down permanently and are members of the FST. On this Friday night, nothing was going right. My wife was delayed at school etc. So then a delayed departure from Venice, a false stop at Mad Moe's for a burger in Osprey (PACKED) and then a direct shot and parking across from FST we hope for a quick burger or something at the bar or restaurant at FST? But it was PACKED and they weren't serving any more???? We threw our tickets in the trash because now we could not make it back in time, (( frown :-( )) So a walk to Main Street to see if Patrick's or anybody might have room for two? NOPE. and we were walking along and THERE WAS BREWSTER's GASTROPUB!!!!!!!!!! For some reason I have 128 restaurants on my Sarasota Favorites list and Brewster's was not on it? I checked them on as I entered??? Looked VERY full at the bar, and most tables were full but it looked like we had a shot...... and there was a four top high-top!!!!!!! WIDE OPEN!! I think the no table service might be the delineator. We weren't looking for a sit down "dining" and full service gig. Nor did we need the overhead and pomp and circumstance of a host/hostess, army of bus staff, a waitstaff and being waited on with drinks and water and etc? ******** We came to EAT GOOD SIMPLE FOOD and have FUN. **** And that's what we did!!! "Todd" at the bar was friendly and fantastic. All the bartenders and staff were helpful and friendly. The "security guy" when he saw me at the bar for about 20 seconds helped me get some ketchup. Zone defense and team effort!!!! I got the signature Brew Burger and a side of Street Corn and had an endless glass of water w/ lemon I think I had Todd fill about 5 times. My wife and I bantered about what the Street Corn would be and we were happily surprised with the authentic Mexican Street Corn (elotes?) on the cob with a stick and a delightful creamy Chile, garlic, and Cotija cheese sauce I think. (problem is we gobble them up before we could figure out the exact sauce composition here. BUT it was very tasty. 10/10 The burger (for this adult usually nutritarian plant-based eater) was EXACTLY what I had hoped for. A wonderfully fresh an warm brioche bun, fantastic angus burger, cheddar and a "secret sauce" . I got lettuce onion and pickles which are standard...... this was VERY VERY VERY tasty. only quip is I will opt for sauce on the side and its was a little too much sauce. This was mega and uber better than some greasy Five Guys or Smashburger or any of that stuff. 10/10 My wife got the Shroom & Swiss Burger that had a wonderful portobello mushroom on it nicely cooked, terrific angus burger properly cooked exactly as we ordered it, she loved the blue cheese perfect amount, She also felt a bit TOO much of the secret sauce, but its pretty tasty so not a catastrophe. This was also an AWESOME burger!! 10/10 The sweet potato fries were not crazy greasy and perfectly crisp but not crunchy for fries - good, cross-cut and obviously bulk bag. Cut or sliced would be nicer but of course not expected, its a side. 7/10 The place is clean and glassware and silverware perfectly clean. The counter/bar service is fantastic. I had to make a few trips for ketchup and place ware and etc but hey when your wife gets one of the better vodka cranberry w/lemon and club in a large tumble for $9 instead of $15 or $16 for a 6 oz martini glass with 4 oz of watery drink........ its a home run!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! With all the TVs and sports that is probably the summary of my review. Brewster's Gastropub is a Grand Slam for food and service......and especially burgers!!! Bravo Zulu.

Food was also nothing to write home about. Average at best. Ordered chips and salsa/cheese and wings. Somehow it took the chips to come as long as it did the wings...which kind of defeats the purpose of having an appetizer. I know what you're thinking - they were busy... Well they weren't. Less than 30 people in the whole place. Oh and if you sit at a table, you still need to walk over to the bar to order! So all in all, hard pass!

I have visited this LOCATION with my wife several times during the past few years. If I recall it…read morewas previously the Island Bar, or something like that. One of the big draws is the price of the drinks. Currently $2.25 for a draft, $2.50 for a bottle, $2.75 for regular well drinks during the daytime until 7 p.m. It opens at 8 a.m. Now if you like dive bars (no food), and an array of real characters, this is the place for you. It seems most of the regulars are from the area and it has more than its quota of alcoholics, but they are friendly and have fascinating stories about their lives. It is a comfortable place to spend some time and the bartenders are, in my experience, terrific. No judgment, no politics, no fancy clothing, no pretense, just human beings who share their lives together. Come as you are.
