I found CertFast while carousing internet sites last Thursday afternoon. I called Jeff and by Friday morning I was enrolled in their 2 day PALS course which was held in a beautiful office in downtown SF over this past weekend. CertFast offers a no-stress Pediatric Acute Life Support course and with everything else in my life at a hectic pace, this is definitely what I needed. The last PALS course I took was at my previous hospital job and CertFast was just as effective as my last course. Carlos is a great instructor. Intelligent, communicated the material effectively, and most importantly - FUNNY! There's nothing worse than hearing an instructor recite the same exact material you've read over and over again in the Course book! Carlos used visual aids, mnemonics, charts, interesting stories and jokes - which made the information easier to understand, absorb, and remember. I just wanted to take the time and thank Carlos for a great course today. This morning my family experienced a death and I was definitely not in the frame of mind to attend class and pass this test... Class rooms are small and they over book, theres not enough seat to go around. there's no AC in the room, so they keep the door open, you constantly hear the traffic, honking, people yelling/talking, loud music playing in the parking lot. The teaching is very unorganized too, they go off topic very often. It's suppose to be 2 day class, 1st day I just sat there and waited ... didn't teach anything I signed up for... just wasting my time... 2nd day he taught 2 out of 3 classes I signed up for. I've asked for a refund for that class.... still no refund. The only responds I got from the point of contact Lidia was I'll forward your email to finance, then finance doesn't even bother to respond. So I did some research on this Dr. Rendon. 1. Dr. Rendon Revive Education business on yelp with different addresses in different cities, has similar reviews, inconsistency/cancelling classes on his terms, and refuse refunds. 2. I verified with California board, he is not even a licensed physician. 4. He uses other people credential to teach, not his own... because he's been disqualified. Got a call from Rendon telling me, refund was issued yesterday, didn't you get an email from Lidia.. Of course NO.. because this morning she still emailed me to tell me she will remind finance again. I attended the class of Dr. Carlos Rendon at Revive Education Center to get a US counterpart of my licenses in another country. I find him easy to follow which is best esp for students and first timers. The pneumonic he used were easy to remember and had easy retention. He made sure that all students he handled will be equipped with knowledge and skills to be able to do proper resuscitation for people who needs it. I took the Code Blue Essentials with Dr. Rendon Revive this week, and I just want to recommend this to everyone because: 1. Dr. Rendon is a good teacher! 2. Cheapest one out there. For 4 certifications (ACLS, PALS, NRP, and Basic EKG), you pay $300 (plus the cost of books and the NRP online exam). If you have to take it individually from anywhere, you're probably paying $200 for each. 3. I learned how to perform ACLS and PALS. Also, I feel like I understood EKG a lot more now. In school, it was just hard to understand but the way Dr. Rendon taught it was easy to absorb. It's very hard to get certifications because of the cost so I recommend everyone to take this class :) read more

I took the code blue package back in sept 2013 and I must say this is the best deal in the Bay Area! For $399, you get ACLS, PALS, EKG and choice of IV and NRP. I highly recommend the NRP certification. Dr. Rendon mentioned nursing recruiters are impressed to see this on resumes. The class is located in Albany (Berkeley area). It's in a very small room that probably fits about 15-20 people. Classes fill fast. There's minimal parking, so come early. Dr. Rendon is an amazing instructor, he is simple and to the point and very humorous. Great personality and he totally puts you at ease. He is a retired anesthesiologist, so he really knows his stuff. He teaches so the material so well and in a way that reinforces the info in your brain. He is constantly repeating himself, but not in an annoying way. The way he teaches is fun and engaging. I wish he taught my nursing courses!! The $399 does not cover books. I do recommend buying your books from online retailers like amazon. He sells them on site but are very pricey. I bought my pals book from him for $50, on amazon I saw it for about $30. You must get the updated and newest versions of NRP, pals and Acls books. However an old EKG book would be ok. Friday: Depending on your package you will do IV in the morning or afternoon, in the evening finish off with the EKG class. We got out early at around 7pm. Saturday: Saturday and Sunday were our long days! 1st half of day was instructed by his wife, we did the pals portion first, then dr. Rendon came in the afternoon. Sunday: Last portion of pals and Acls with skills test. During skills testing he guides you through it and if you feel lost or forget something you gives you subtle hints or allows our group members to help. My only gripes are the prices of the books and I wish they didn't split up the classes. I would have preferred Acls one day and pals the next. Makes it less confusing ;) He gives study materials in addition to his teaching. The piece of paper he gives you is really all you need to know. We barely used our books. We used maybe three pages out of the books and that was it. For NRP, he just does the skills portion. You have to do the reading and take the online test on your own. There are 9 exams for NRP, so beware!!! I recommend you do this class prior to coming to class. He let a few of us do the skills portion first and we finished the online portion afterwards. He mailed our NRP cards as soon as we sent in our certification. Overall, highly recommend Dr. Rendon for the price and the quality of education!!! He lives in SoCal and has another teaching center down there. He and his wife travel back and forth between the Bay Area which is why the classes are only offered every other weekend. read more

Nursing school and the NCLEX... Just took this class over the weekend. Super good deal! I signed up for the Code Blue Bundle for new grads for $299. This is by far the best deal I could find; it usually runs over $200 for just ACLS or PALS. This bundle includes ACLS, PALS, EKG, and IV/NRP/BLS renewal. I opted for the NRP. Dr. Rendon also gives you the choice of taking 5 classes and paying an additional fee (such as NRP and BLS renewal instead of just one or the other). The class is in Albany, very little trouble finding parking. This location has a parking lot and plenty of street parking. The classes are Friday (about 1pm to 8pm), Saturday (330pm to 7pm), and Sunday (9am to 7pm). I don't know how the classes usually go, but Dr. Rendon wasn't there for most of Friday and all of Saturday, but he was there for all of Sunday when he holds the ACLS, PALS, and NRP testing. He's also there for the basic EKG teaching on Friday. The good: Dr. Rendon makes things pretty simple and easy to understand. He simplifies things and pretty much beats the concepts into your head so you don't forget it. It gets very repetitive, but it is effective. Then he goes over "odd topics" that might be on the written tests so that you aren't caught off guard. The practical testing is pretty chill with him; he kinda prompts you when you're looking lost and he allows your group members to provide input as well. The bad: It could probably be a little more organized. I won't get into details, but it's not at all a deal breaker. The bottom line: Great deal and Dr. Rendon knows his stuff. He has excellent ways of explaining and breaking down the information so that you get a clear picture of what you are supposed to do. After finding his class on the internet, they offered ACLS, PALS, NRP, and EKG certification for $260. I couldn't believe it, so I called to make sure and his classes are for real. I took his 2 day course at the Holiday Inn Express in San Pablo. I was shock to find out that I was able to still sign up for the class because I discovered these certifications on a Monday, and the class was happening that following Thursday. The one thing that upset me through the entire experience was the lack of inconsistent information from the staff. I specifically called their 1-800 number to make sure that: 1. There was still room available to take these certifications 2. Since I was signing up so late, would I be able to get my books when I show up to the class instead of getting them mailed to me first 3. Was there any preparations I needed to be prior to the class. According to the person I called on the 1-800 number, the specified that I would not need to buy any of the books for the certifications expect for the NRP book since I needed to read it ahead of time and needed to take an online exam, however, they also said since I would not be able to get the book mailed to me in time, I can buy it online and pick it up at the beginning of the class. When everything was all said and done, I showed up and found out that according to the AHA, you need to physically have the books while you are taking the certification class. (You do not have to buy them from their company, but you need to have your ALCS and PALS books directly in front of you while taking the class. They physically walked around the room making sure that everyone had a book) And as for the NRP class, Dr. Rendon told me that I would have to talk to his 1-800 number guy to make sure I got my money back for the NRP book because NRP is currently going through an edition change and they cannot sell their old edition books. But apparently, I still needed to buy an online book, which costed more than his website was offering and take the 9 modules exams prior to doing the skills test the next day. Believe me, these tests are not easy either. My friend and I were up almost all night trying to finish these tests prior to the next morning... Overall, I am happy that I got all my certifications, however, it was a long and difficult road getting there. Things I loved about the class: - Dr. Rendon is very knowledgable and tries to make the class stress free - When he does skill checks with you, he is very through and explains everything very well, plus his megacodes are interesting scenarios - 4 certifications for $260 is well worth it - brought other knowledgeable people with him to teach parts of the class - everyone who signed up for the class, passed it. Things I disliked about the class: - the materials for all the certifications jumped around a lot. We learned a little about ACLS, PALS, and NRP all in one day. We would learn parts of ACLS, and then jump into PALS after a break. I would have liked it if we completely finished ACLS one day and concentrated on PALS the other day. - his staff was inconsistent in their information and what they tell their students. - we did not have any mock megacodes. We just watched all certifications megacodes on a projector and expected to recite them for the skills test the next day. I would have liked to physically try out some megacodes before being tested on it. - It was not specified, but there is an additional cost to the NRP certification. The online test cost an additional $29. Plus you only have 14 days from activating your test to finish it. (NRP's website states that) However, you cannot move onto the skills test without completing your online test first. - Found this out from a classmate, but you need the following online modules tests completed in order to get your certification. Dr. Rendon never specified or mentioned this during the class: * for LVN's, you only need to do modules 1 through 4 and 9 to get NRP certified. * for RN's, you need to complete and pass all 9 modules in order to get certified. If you only do 1 through 4 and 9, you only get the LVN certification and it will be voided if you apply for an RN job. read more

Finally decided to get my certifications after a long time of procrastinating, and I have to say, I now feel like I'm a cpr expert. Just took the code blue bundle over the weekend for ACLS, PALS, EKG, and NRP skills. Great deal. The first 2 days was going over the bls portion of resuscitation and watching Dr. Rendon in video so you actually get to know him before even seeing him in person. The whole process was very flexible and easygoing and not intimidating as I had thought since been out of school for about a year. His staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. His wife is also very nice and comes helps out with paperwork and training. Dr. Rendon makes the info interesting and engaging with a common sense approach. He has a method of breaking down how to read a heart rhythm and how to treat it in a way that's simple and practical to use. They make sure that you're completely comfortable on how to initiate the response system and AED on the dummies. He thoroughly reviews the key points that you need to know for the written test. I was pretty nervous but afterwards I was like damn I still got it. For the practical, you work with others in a team and call the shots in the code. The cases he makes for you are pretty funny and makes sure it's not overwhelming for anyone. Later he does a debriefing after 2 codes to compare one case with another. It was a pretty tough weekend to get through but the deal is definitely worth it. I'd suggest being mindful of traffic on Friday and Saturday if you're crossing the bridge from the city. You can park in parking lot or right on San Pablo ave. I had no problem with the 3 hour limit but you can park in the neighborhood right behind the plaza.
