We've been here many times, most often for takeout. The sandwiches are always fresh, substantial and tasty. Some of their specials are very special indeed, I've enjoyed quite a few. I like their turkey harvest sandwich whenever available (turkey, stuffing, and cranberry sauce). I also enjoyed their steak French dip sandwich, another special that I'd look forward to enjoying again. They also have meals to go in the freezer, we've sampled a few of these and enjoyed most. The decor is homey and pleasant inside, it has a comfy appeal. It's close to Pulaski State Park and Recreational Area, a great place to have a takeout picnic at one of their many picnic tables with view of the pond. We will return! read more

My lunch partner and I stopped here recently for lunch. Nice stop for a fresh meal. They had quite a few options for meals, some made fresh to order and lots of options of ready made meals in their cooler/freezer. We ordered our lunches and chose to eat it outside on their patio, which was nice on a beautiful spring day. They brought our meals out to us and the presentation was very nice. My salad was plentiful and very fresh. I loved the dressing too. I did think they were pretty cheap on the cheese and the croutons were very tasty, but they were extremely hard. Renee and Cindy were amazing putting my husbands sons wedding together at Allen Hill Farm. The venue was something out of Hallmark movie and the ladies set up the wedding completed the perfect atmosphere. Let's talk food: I have to say, everything from the Appetizers to main-course was excellent. The cake made by cakes by Paula was the best cake I ever had. Perfectly decorated and moist inside. Her knowledge and advise was invaluable. She helped me plan a menu with great expertise. Bianca works with you to refine the event and menu so everything goes smoothly. Another one of those "we got to try this place one day" in my book. So 2 days before Christmas and finally did it. We did have a sampling of Renee's once, at my aunt's funeral and was totally impressed. You walk in and are taken in by the dining area, on how tastefully decorated. We sat and was greeted and asked if we wanted water, which definitely isn't tap. The menus were handed out and they were simple, and on one side. It didn't look like much of a choice at first glance, but better to offer a little and have it all perfect, then to over do it and not excel with anything. I tried a seafood chowder. It was tomato based, with shrimp, scallops and cod. It was served at the right temperature, not piping hot, but just right, when you can take a mouthful and not burn yourself, but not cool enough to "drink" it. My wife ordered an Italian sandwich, and I ordered the mayor, which is a roast beef sandwich. Both came out with homemade macaroni salad, oil based. Both sandwiches and the Mac salad was near perfect as you can get. While we were waiting for the food to come out, they have a couple of coolers with various take outs. We decided to buy one of the meat pies to take home. The price was very reasonable for the quality of the food. If you have never tried Renee's, make it a point to give it a try. If you're visiting downtown Putnam, take a little walk to them, and you won't be disappointed! read more

Definitely would not Recommend this catering for a weddin, absolutely the worst catering I've seen. as a banquet server myself I will say they were very unprepared and unprofessional. Their mixed drinks were shit no alcohol whatsoever and they charged $8 for them, not to mention their drinks got smaller and they charged the same price. they shut people off after drinking beer not even drinking their so called mixed drinks. they shut my husband off first and he clearly was not drunk because he was the last to leave after helping pack up the dj equipment. The bartenders were rude and told him to drink lemonade or eat a cup cake. The manager that was there was a complete a$$ and deserved everything he got. They did not deserve the $10,000 they received as payment. the servers knocked down a one year old child ( bride and grooms child) and just stepped over him while he cried. Three people went to grab said child and had a hard time getting him because servers continued to walk past him and over him. My daughter got an adult sized child's meal and it was the same as the child's meal and the bride and groom were charged extra for it. They had nothing to make actual mixed drinks and nothing to make a sherly temple with. They continued to run out of alcohol and had to go get more. I'm pretty sure they ran out of Everything and didn't want to go out and get more that's why they shut everyone off. So rude unprofessional and unprepared. I would definitely not recommend this catering company to anyone. read more

I do not usually complain in this manner as I myself have worked in customer service related roles for many years and understand the feeling of negative feedback from customers, however I felt compelled to send an email after my experience with this catering service today. My sister and I ordered food for 11 people and we were very underwhelmed by the amount of food provided for roughly $370. Yes, the invoice stated we would receive 22 pieces of bacon. Other than that, the size of a "sheet pan" is subjective, and we were surprised to learn that "assorted sandwiches" meant only one per guest. Not only was the quantity of food underwhelming, but so was the quality. On top of that, the customer service we were met with when we called regarding our missed expectations was appalling. There was no attempt to salvage the situation on their end. Overall, it was embarrassing to have that little food to offer our guests considering the cost. The invoices should be made clearer so other customers aren't put in the position we were. We have experience with local competition who offers higher quality food in larger quantities for a lower cost and we will continue to us read more

Stopped here randomly on a road trip - the clam chowder and fritters are amazing! I know a lot of people use fb, Google, and yelp as a useful tool for reviews with various companies from caterers to hair and make up, dj, etc. i just wanted to give you a heads up on a caterer to steer clear from, Renee's bistro & catering service out of Putnam ct. they catered my brothers wedding yesterday. 81 people in attendance, charged close to $10k. They also provided the alcohol for the event, as well as cocktail hour. What a aweful experience with them. For starters, cocktail hour- the mixed drinks were $10+ and there was not even a splash of alcohol. I myself ordered a vodka and cran, it was straight cranberry juice you couldn't even smell the vodka! And the cup size for $10 was unreal. The beer they served, warm. They didn't even have the beer on ice! There was a water station set up for cocktail hour which was great because here in woodstock ct yesterday it was close to 100 degrees! So the water was much needed for those in the wedding party especially the kids. They ran out of water, when asking them politely to refill the water they rolled their eyes. They did refill it, 15 min later though. The bride specifically asked the owner of the buisness days in advanced that the salad be served once introductions into the reception were done and everyone was seated, she agreed to but day of wedding when guests got to the tables, the salads were already on the table, and starting to wilt and become soggy. So much of the salads went to waste. Meal time now. The bride and grooms child, 1 year old, was walking and one of the servers with a platter of plates to distribute full out plowed the child over and didn't even pause to appologize or see if he was ok. Food is now on the table. The chicken meal, center of chicken was still cold, potato wedges cold, charged the bride and groom extra for a adult size kids meal but only provided a child's size portion for that specific order. Now the fun begins everyone's dancing having fun, ordering drinks, one gentleman had only had 3 Budweisers over the course of 3 hours, bartender cut him off. Groom questions why he was cut off because the particular gentleman wasn't intoxicated in the least (mind you NOBODY was out of hand nobody was intoxicated they all were dancing or out outside cooling off.) bartender looks at groom and snarkly says "well you are also now cut off too" and the attitudes began! All the servers were snooty and rude, the bartender coordinator Keith was being atrocious with attitude and cutting people left and right. People began questioning why and one server said "they can't keep up with the alcohol they ran out 3x and have to go 10 min to the next town over to get more alcohol and they didn't want to continue that with the a hour left of the night. But $10k for your services you should perform 100% right up until the end. Groom gets upset and shoved Keith to the ground after he continued the stare downs, dirty looks and antagonizing remarks for a excuse to shut down and leave. Long story short, the wedding itself was absolutely beautiful in every way possible, but that catering company was terrible! Unprofessional, undercooked food for some, terrible bartending skills/drinks, and warm beer. just trying to save other brides to be the let down and situation like my brother and sister in law encountered yesterday on their big day. read more
