I walked away totally impressed, and so did the event organizers who booked the Cranston Country Club again for September 2016. When I walked onto the grounds, the first thing I noticed was the gorgeous flowers and landscaping at the back of the main building overlooking the course. As our golfers came off the course, I asked them how they enjoyed the day and everyone said the golf experience and box lunch were both very good. Seriously, there was not one negative mentioned by a soul. As we prepared for our dinner, I interacted with half a dozen staff members (bartenders, servers, pro shop) and found them all to be professional and friendly. Our dinner was tremendous! We had a BBQ theme and our plates included half a chicken, a slab of 4 ribs, an ear of corn, and a baked potato with salad and rolls. And a slice of ice cream cake with sprinkles and chocolate sauce as a finale. People were flipping out at how good the food was. In conclusion, I was very impressed with what I saw during my first visit to the Cranston Country Club. See ya next year.

The banquet Room is open and spacious with a bar in the center which allows for a feeling of airiness and gives you the ability to see from one side of the room to the other. The food that we had was very good and was set up so that you could go to different stations to get food and not have to wait in long lines at 1 station. For the past year or two, the rough has become a bit too unforgiving in my opinion. The grass is at a level where balls just disappear and are very difficult to find. This, of course, slows down play while people attempt to locate shots that are just slightly off the fairway. (And as some other reviewers have noted, the owner and staff here can become disagreeable when players are not "moving along".) Otherwise, the club has always been accommodating to our group and we always look forward to returning.

The…read morelayout is fun and challenging and when the greens are not recently plugged or sanded, they are some of the best for a public 9 hole in RI. I have had many good experiences at this course and have been playing there on and off for the past 10 years. That being said, my most recent experience is one that I will never forget simply because of the way my playing partners and I were treated by the cranky, self-righteous, and frankly rude octogenarian owner of the facility. In my 15+ years of playing golf (I am in my early 20s for reference), I have always been taught to be courteous of others while on the golf course. That means playing at the pace of those in front of you, calling fore if you feel a shot may be close to the group ahead or near you, and generally being respectful and kind to those on the course with you. That also means recognizing if your group is struggling, playing slow, or creating a backup on the course that could be remedied by allowing faster groups to play through. I have played countless rounds where either my group has been the slow one and allowed people through or been the group allowed through. Today, that was far from the case. As we left the third green, the foursome ahead of us (members at the course - something we were unaware of) had topped two drives and hit the other two roughly 180 yards. They were comprised of two couples who were obviously beginner golfers and roughly middle aged or older. Our group was waiting on the tee box for about 15 minutes just for them to get far enough on a par 4 for us to hit our tee shots so that we WOULDN'T hit into their group. At the same time, there were two groups actively on the third hole behind us and two waiting on the third tee. There was a 5 group wait. We hit our drives and thought nothing of it. We said hello to the group in front of us when they were on the next tee, situated next to the green we were playing and apologized to them if our drives were close to them which they assured us we were ok and that they were not. We then moved on and the same issue popped up. There were 4 groups waiting behind them on a par 5 with two holes ahead of them wide open. Our group tried to call the clubhouse twice, both times to no avail and decided to just let it slide and hope to talk to the group ahead once we were at the next hole, a par 3. Our plan was to ask if we could play through on the par three so that they could continue at their pace and we could have the last two holes open in front of us, as we generally play quick but understand standard pace of play. My second shot on the par 5 was admittedly close to their cart but came up about 15 yards short and I called fore to them very loudly. I went to speak to them and explained that I did not mean to get too close to them, but politely asked if our group could either play through or if they could simply try to speed up a bit. Our conversation was very respectful and in my mind went well, but one of the women told me in no simpler terms to "F... off" and sarcastically joked "what are you pros?" to my partner who was about to play his next shot. We did not see that group again, as they then sped up their play and we were able to also play the last three holes at a reasonable pace and finish in 2:07. Generally speaking, that is good pace of play for a Saturday. As our group walked off of the 9th green, we were approached by a man who we later found out to be the owner who I characterized above. He came up to us and told us how disrespectful and rude our group was for "intentionally hitting into the group ahead of us and harassing them over the course of the round". He went on to tell us that we're not allowed to explain to him what we saw and spoke to that group about, as all he cared about was what we do for a living and how old we were, as if that could be the reason we didn't deserve to have a conversation with him. He was exceptionally rude and disrespectful toward us and does not deserve your business.

Second, the bread basket contained 8 rolls for a table set for 10. Meanwhile only one bar was open generating excessive lines and inability for many to get a drink before being instructed to sit for the event. The biggest failure came with the main course, that not only was served over 2 HOURS late, but was inedible. My dish, including pasta and chicken, was not only cold, but the pasta had been left out for hours and was starting to dry out providing for an unpleasant texture. Additionally the chicken was over cooked and did not resemble anything close to chicken piccata. At this point I left the event in disappointment as we were now approaching 9:30 pm with no desert in site. I hope a refund was considered by the club for this event.

I've been in weddings that range from very DIY and disorganized, to "normal", to highly organized, and I have to say this was one the most smooth, flawless experience I have ever had with a wedding. They went above and beyond to make sure everyone (not just the couple, but all the parents and grandparents, plus the friends) were comfortable and happy. They had special areas for everyone to get ready, and Marco was very attentive with bringing beverages and snacks, and checking in regularly. We never had any doubt about the timing of the day, or who to go to with questions. During the reception the bartenders and waitstaff were great, and fast. I'm sure my friend and her family will be recommending this venue to all their local friends, and I am so glad they found it and were able to book it for a perfect Saturday in October.

We hosted a party here on Oct 13, 2019. We booked our engagement party on short notice (about 5…read moreweeks before) and Kaitlyn was so easy to work with from the start. We fell in love with her, the house, everything including the murder-by-mail story behind the house from the 1800s. About 2 weeks before the party we called Kaitlyn and told her it was going to turn into our surprise wedding! She continued to be so helpful and excited, giving recommendations for all kinds of vendors we'd need. The day of the party she was professional and hands-on, making sure everything got done on a quick timeline. She calmed nerves and had great suggestions on where things should go to make sure everything flowed just right. Our rental price included some tables and linens she had available, and some glassware too. It was so perfect from the start and we couldn't be happier!!

Came for an Open Doors RI tour. Online tickets were sold out but they were able to accommodate a…read morebunch of us at the door. Beautiful historic building who's tour guides added in a true life murder mystery of the lady of the houses death. This really added to the event as it was so my scene and absolutely fun. They also had a whiskey tasting since she was poisoned with whiskey which is ironically amazing. I would def host an event here because unlike the Newport mansions I could touch things and see things in the midst of being historically preserved since they're still restoring the house. Open Doors RI has found a new regular customer :)
