I normally try to stay positive on here, but I have to speak up about how horribly I've been treated by Renew Real Estate. Since before my apartment was flooded with raw sewage, they have consistently shown a shocking lack of compassion, professionalism, and basic human decency -- not just toward me, but toward my newborn baby. They are currently facing Metro Codes violations for my specific unit and have been requested to fully clean, fully replace contaminated structures/flooring, and fully test the unit before my family returns OR I could be released from my lease without penalty, a full refund of my deposit AND compensation for each day I've been displaced... it's now been 3 weeks I've been out of my apartment AND MY RENT IS UP TO DATE!! THEY'VE DENIED ME PEACE OR COMPENSATION! Instead of addressing urgent maintenance concerns, they ignored me for weeks. When the sewage disaster happened, they were slow to respond and dismissive about how dangerous and traumatizing this was for my family. Can you imagine being a new parent and dealing with toxic waste in your home -- with no urgency or empathy from your landlord? The home I bled in. Nursed in. Cried in. And they left us to suffer in that filth -- like we didn't matter. Ignored. Dismissed. Requests for repairs were cancelled. Once the sewage backed up, it became something out of a nightmare. They moved slowly, showed no urgency, and offered no real support even knowing a newborn infant was involved. I am ten weeks postpartum, exhausted, terrified and they are currently leaving us in a toxic, unsafe environment with no answers and no empathy. I wouldn't wish this on anyone. I cry so many nights wondering how I am supposed to keep my baby safe. I feel completely alone, unheard, and disrespected. And to this day, THREE WEEKS IN, they don't taken true accountability. This is not just bad business. This is trauma. This is what happens when landlords don't care about people, just rent checks. They give units the typical "landlord special" while charging tenants every nickel and dime for repairs that are normal wear and tear. They are money hungry and their customer service is horrible. Kary will lie over and over and when given proof she'll ignore it completely. Their maintenance guys would leave a mess, that I reported every time and they didn't do anything, not even offer an apology. Save yourself the stress and look elsewhere. read more

Easily the worst experience I have ever had with a rental company. I am actively trying to get a reply from Renew and they have completely ignored me for weeks now. Our rental was disgusting upon move in, full of mouse poop, and covered in mud (inside AND out) from rental viewings and previous tenant pets. We arrived to our new rental to find the home was not even locked up (a month had passed between us signing the lease and our move in date, so who knows who was in and out during this time.) We have a window that we found pennies lodged into the lock in order to keep it shut. They sent a 3rd party maintenance company to look at my list of repair requests and instead of approving any of their repairs, Renew has now given my contact information to further maintenance companies without ever communicating with me. It is glaringly obvious this company does not care for its properties or its tenants. I have sent multiple emails and cannot get through to them by phone. Instead, I receive automated emails requesting that I leave a review online to be entered into a drawing to receive a rent credit. (I don't even see last months "winner" review on here, so it seems it's all for show anyway.) I know online reviews can seem biased, but given the other reviews I'm seeing on here are all validating my experience, I would not recommend renting from this company. read more

Best Nashville realty company in the business. Courteous staff that go the extra mile.

The unit was disgusting at move in. The bathroom sink was clogged and not functioning the entire time. Stained floors and filth like no one attempted to clean at all. Overall, very unprofessional and the property manager Kary Maywell will intentionally look for ways to put fault on the tenant if there is an issue. Charge unethical fees during move out and then threaten to make the charges even more if I didn't just "pay what they were asking." Do NOT rent with this company if you can help it. Beware of a lot of home inspections, if you have a complaint they will retaliate. The lease hasca clause that you can not take them to court so they do not have any inclination to help you because legally they can't be sued by you. Terrible experience! They post under market cost for rent but with all the other fees associated you would do better finding a different rental company. do not sign a lease with this company! They will threaten to send you to collections if you request a review of charges as they did me and 2 other tenants that I am aware of. read more

Absolutely do not rent from this company! Upon moving in it took me three different visits to the office to finally get the correct key to my front door. It is impossible to get anyone on the phone in the office and if you can they are rude and dismissive. They claim to have an emergency maintenance line but it is not listed in the lease or online and I suspect may not exist. I had a pipe burst today and it took over 3 hours for them to come shut the water off. I was only successful in getting it shut off after I called the city, plumber, office number, and personal agent's # to come help. Renew would not answer the phone even during office hours. They manage so many properties it is easy for them to see you as just another tenant. DO NOT recommend. My fridge immediately broke upon move in and it took them 3 weeks to fix, leaving me without a fridge for almost a month. Air conditioning went next and took a couple weeks. I have had foundational issues that they have promised to fix but have done nothing, bugs in the house due to large cracks in the ceiling and walls that they will not repair, a moldy closet with water from the roof running in that I have requested 3 times be repaired, and plumbing issues, both the toilet and bathtub have broken. Every single time a maintenance person comes out they are surprised by the cheap "bandaid" fix that was done before, and they usually tell me "yeah this is just going to break again in a couple weeks because they won't pay to have it done correctly." Also....all these positive reviews..... They do a drawing where 1 person gets $100 off rent if you write them a good review so chances are a lot of these people just wanted that tiny little rent break. read more

Dear Yelpers, Thanks for the heads-ups on this company. They checked every reg flag, but we still loved the apartment so much we applied--what a mistake. They were rude, vague, unwilling to answer questions about the property, and pressured us to give a deposit without even telling us we were approved or presenting a lease. They are clearly collecting as many fees as possible. RENEW is pretty responsive for simple maintenance requests, but has been difficult to get their attention for bigger issues. I know sometimes that can tie back to the actual property owner, but I would hope RENEW could push property owners to approve for them to take care of problems as they arise. read more

Great people to work with and my hero. I left for a short flight out of town and was paranoid I locked my cat in a room and Renew TN sent someone out to check on him and make sure he was free to roam the house! They made renting easy and are so sweet to have done that for me! read more

My experience with the people at this business: arrogant assholes. And that was just trying to view a property they were renting. After reading some of these reviews, pretty glad I didn't actually rent anything from them. ....And in response to the crap they replied with... I never asked about the area. I grew up in the area the rental home was in. I never got a key because you wouldn't give me one; said it was too close to your closing time. So no way I threw it at the arrogant girl at the front. And I never spoke to anyone but her, so not sure how you remember me so much. During the COVID-19 pandemic. This place has been the worse realty company to work with. They told us we wouldn't be charged late fees. As long as we sent in a payment once or twice a week. Some of us were laid off and didn't receive unemployment, but this company doesn't care. How can you pay late fees. When you're trying to pay the base rent. Especially when the late fee is $80. I think they should use our deposits to cover the $80 late fees. Hopefully once this pandemic is over with. There will be more places opening up to move into. Beware most of the properties need a lot of work. We live in an area where the tornado hit. Nobody from the realty company came to check on us. The tenants had to report the damage and they still never showed up. After about a week. They finally sent someone out. read more

Upon being approved for a house (plus paying a $40 deposit fee), my wife and I went to go finish up the paperwork and were told that in the time between our confirmation email, they had rented the place to someone else. Do not rent from this company unless you are ok with not getting your deposit back. This is the rudest, most unprofessional and unreasonable rental company I've ever dealt with. It's clear that their model is to pass all upkeep and maintenance expenses onto the renter, keep your deposit, not actually use the money to fix up the places, and repeat. They clearly do not take any responsibility as a RENTAL management company to turn properties from renter to renter. I moved into one of their homes with very rough wall patching, plenty of scuffs, holes still in the walls, cabinets broken, and the back porch steps essentially gone. I was told that they were limiting maintenance requests to COVID, so I clearly assumed if they had not fixed up the property from there, that they would not be doing so at my request. I treated the property extremely well, built a new step system at the porch so that my dogs or someone else wouldn't break their leg, installed shelving in the pantry, etc. At my mistake, I presume, I did hang normal items on the walls, as residents do. Upon move out, I was sent a 4 page list of required move out items that basically demanded you renovate the property to new. In addition, this list is nowhere in their rental agreement. Since I entered the property with nowhere near this list done for me, I really didn't give it much weight. I'm sure they want people to do their job for them, but this was a ridiculous list that they themselves do not live up to. I patched holes as best I could not being a professional home repair person and did my best to leave it in as good or better condition than I received it. I then got a very small fraction of my deposit back from them claiming a ridiculous amount of repairs needed. They even nickel and dimed me for something as unreasonable as not replacing an air filter that was hidden in a closet that I never even knew was there (the other air filter was replaced). The craziest thing is that I left a brand new filter, still in the package in that same closet! Just the fact that they would be so unbelievably unreasonable as to charge me $50 when there was a brand new one sitting right there should tell you enough about the quality of this company's character. I then contacted the company to discuss the unreasonableness of their decisions and was treated extremely rudely by Blake Ferguson. I contacted him multiple times with no response and he refused to give me a manager's contact information. In fact, he continued to passive aggressively send the main line's number. I was treated as though I'd wrecked the place, when in fact I did many things on my own expense to improve it. I would not ever work with this company again. read more

My wife and I rented an apartment through Renew and couldn't have has a better experience. All of our work orders and communications were handled immediately. We had one issue with our A/C taking longer to get fixed than it should have, and they adjusted our rent for that month to make up for it. DO NOT rent a property from these guys if you live in Nashville. They totally ripped us off. For starters, they claimed they never received the notice from my daughter that she intended not to renew the lease, then when I sent them a copy of the email they suggested it was fake. Seriously? To make matters worse, they only gave us a third of our deposit back, claiming there were extensive damages in a house occupied by three professional women. Trust me, that house was in better condition after my daughter moved out than it was when they rented it. It was a rat-trap from the get-go. I chose Renew because they were very honest and upfront during interviews, their references passed with flying colors, and most importantly, I don't think I've ever waited for more than 2 hours for a response to an email. I also appreciate their commitment to automation, technology and social media. So many property managers are still relying on flyers, classifieds and maybe the occasional Craig's List ad. It's refreshing to see Facebook listings with YouTube walkthroughs as just one example of how Renew understands where the today's renters are looking. With Renew, the only time I even remember I own rental property is when the electronic deposit automatically posts each month. read more

My boyfriend and I are 8 months pregnant and have been looking for a property in Hermitage for months. We came across a property with Renew and scheduled a self showing Saturday, I was e-mailed by Andrew stating I should view the house earlier if I didn't want to lose it. We got off an hour early from work yesterday to view this house, not only were the photos listed extremely misleading, but the condition the property was, in my opinion, uninhabitable. There was urine all over the bathroom, questionable fluids and debris in the kitchen, stains all over the carpet (the photos online showed dark hardwood), filthy walls, light fixtures were hanging off the front porch, huge gaps between the doors and frames, poison oak overgrowth all over the yard, blackened, dirty rags and combs over the back porch, just absolutely disgusting. I e-mailed Andrew with my concerns as soon as we left and was responded to this afternoon saying the house had been leased AS-IS. I find this extremely hard to believe. I requested a refund due to the misleading photos and state of the property and was denied. Also since posting reviews, I have been threatened with legal action. Overall, I think this is just a shady company, if you are looking to buy or rent, I highly recommend seeking a more reputable (as in more than 2 stars) realtor. read more

This company is administered by professional con artists. I recently moved to nashville from the northeast. I looked at pictures of a rental property on line, and spoke with a renew representative over the phone. I questioned the safety of he area. She seemed very elusive and responded that they had never had a problem before. Upon arrival, everyone I have spoken to regarding this neighborhood has told me how dangerous it is well known to be. Since I have been here I've had strangers in a group standing in front of the house staring at me as I was gardening at night and this week had someone try to break in at night. I spoke to the leasing office about moving because, I do not feel safe . He spoke to me in a very unprofessional manner. I could tell by his response that he had a lot of practice dealing with unhappy tenants that wanted out of their lease. To break my lease he demanded almost $3000 for an $850/month rental. I could tell by our discussion that he had scammed multiple people in the past. NEVER use this company!! read more

I wish I could give this place zero stars! They are awful. Do not do business with them! I used them for a year, they only protect the owners not the renters. I just called them to do a rental verification because I paid perfectly and they told me I was not a priority. They said they have 50 applications that come first and that they don't care if my lease is up and I have no place to go. I live in a fast market city and because of this delay, I lost the property I was trying to get! I had perfect history with them and it would have taken almost nothing for them to confirm this and now my kids have no where to go!! read more

RENEW REAL ESTATE ARE SLUMLORDS AND THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR TENANTS. Our house is not up to codes and is listed at a triplex, though the state has it legally listed as a duplex. They make soooooo much money off of our piece of crap units, but do not fix things in a timely manner or fix them properly. One unit lived with a hole in their roof for months before they decided they would properly fix it. Another unit lived without a refrigerator for almost two weeks before they actually fixed it. They raise charges without notice, fail to respond to serious maintenance requests, and have zero relationship with tenants. I would be raising these issues with my property manager if I felt there was any chance of any of my concerns being heard. As that has proved impossible, the best I can do is warn others to steer clear of this "service". I have been severely disappointed ever since my original (and very kind and responsive) landlord started using Renew.
