Stinson Beach and Capitola seem to be decently warm patches of sand, but other than that, you're SOL. Enter Avery Aquatic. No sand. No waves. No seaweed. No surfers. Not quite the great Pacific. But sun! and water that doesn't induce hypothermia! and, oh, baby, nice Speedo! Generally open during lunch hours (12-2 PM ish) and afternoons (after 4 or 6 PM depending on the day) Separate "Family" swim allows you time for a workout without running over the little guys with their swimmies on. Plenty of grass to lay out your towel or park yourself and be impressed with the high-dive or synchronized swimming practices. Oh, and those water polo guys... them too. Post-swim: Out-of-date locker rooms with everyone's favorite, communal showers :-) Not at all fancy and definitely bring your shower shoes. CRUCIAL DETAIL: You can't get in without a Stanford ID (otherwise a friend can get you a pass for $5) And to be honest, I really wasn't that into your Speedo, but I commend your confidence.

Okay as a guest of this pool, you first check in with your ID badge at the front. Beep! Okay, now into the locker rooms. Um....? Can we say super 70s? You just deal. Open changing room, open showers, you see more than you want to. Now the pool, it is heated to a reasonable temperature. There are lanes marked for your speed level. I tend to stick with slow. Gets super busy, I always have had to share my lane with someone. Sucks, because these people going in the slow lane, seem kind of fast? Open swim is from 10am-2pm.

They told us the slide would open at noon (not sure if it varies each day), but come noon they didn't have enough lifeguards so they said 1 pm. The kids were seemingly done w the pool, so I asked if we could go to the playground nextdoor or get food for 20-30 mins and come back for the slide when it reopened, and they said no- strict no reentry policy. Understood the pool situation, but wished there was a little leniency about reentry esp since it was within the hour, to accommodate us given the slide got delayed. Pros- warm showers, supplied floatation vests and goggles from lost and found which was a life saver bc my daughter was upset we left ours at home lol (but seemed to run out of the floatation devices). Note- they say no arm floaties but they do allow puddle jumpers if you want to bring, I'm assuming bc coastguard certified). Hope this helps! We overall had a great time.

The unique feature about this pool is that once in a while there's a water feature where the sprinklers go on in the students get drizzled with water in the pool, which is a lot of fun! A lifetime of memories…read more I sat on the lawn of the Eichler club last year as they held an end of the season swim club award ceremony. My two eldest kids (6, 4) just finished their first season there and were sitting up front with all the other kids and friends they made that Summer. Music played alongside a slideshow of all the fun moments throughout the season. Every kid was pictured. They handed out awards, and as the sun was setting, members, coaches, and the senior class gave speeches to the young ones. My 6 year old son said it was the best day ever, and as I sat there sipping my sangria, I quietly agreed. It was a beautiful moment. Just weeks earlier, my 4 year old daughter was climbing away from the diving board, too scared to finally jump into the deep end of the pool. She had mustered up all her courage to finally do the jump as she waited in line to participate in a "best belly flop" fun event at the club. But when the moment came, in front of dozens of people, it was all too much for her. "ZOE, ZOE, ZOE!" The club was suddenly wildly cheering her on. My little girl then turned around and jumped in. It was her first time jumping off the diving board, and from then on that's all she wanted to do. A member had taken a video of the moment and kindly shared it with me. That's one I'll cherish for the rest of my life. I hope my daughter will too. I never really had these kind of moments growing up. And I don't even know where to find them if I wanted to somehow have more of them. But I do know that my kids have made special memories already here at the Eichler club, and I hope for many many more. ----- Anyway, aside from that I played tennis here almost everyday using the ball machine. It was fantastic. I never had trouble finding a court, and at the same time, there were enough people there that I could meet and play with other people of various levels. I'm still just a wait-list member (they were testing a Summer membership program), but whenever I can join again I'll probably pick up and play a lot more pickleball there as it's impossible to find courts elsewhere in the area. I heard they're adding lights to the courts too, hope that works out Highly recommend this place. While membership is inexpensive from a Palo Alto perspective, the wait-list is ~5 years long. So put in that deposit ASAP because like me you'll wish you did earlier.

I was worried it would be overly…read morecrowded, but there are actually two pools--one for small children and another for bigger kids/families/adults. We were able to snag a spot to put all our stuff down and there was plenty of room to hang out in the pool and have fun. I will say that if you're coming here for lap swim, it won't be super easy to do because you have to navigate people everywhere. Lap swimmers would probably have better experiences elsewhere, but if you just want to spend a couple hours at a pool on a hot day, this is a wonderful option. Affordable too!

The shallow 2-foot end is perfect for little swimmers (and non-swimmers) as well as those who just want to wade without all wet. There are tables with umbrellas for staying out of the sun and bbq pits for making a whole day/evening out of the pool. It's rarely crowded (especially early in the afternoon)--we're often one of the only families there. The team that runs it is great, and it's well-maintained. Would recommend.

At the higher end you're essentially paying about $140 per heated month and that doesn't include swimming lessons. The pool does not have a lifeguard and there isn't consistent staff during business hours. The staff I have interacted with have always been pleasant and professional. Because there isn't staff reliably onsite (unless you're holding an event), poor behavior by other pool-goers can go unchecked. On one visit, someone's teenage son was repeatedly spitting into the pool. There was no staff around at the time to intervene, so I mentioned it to them afterward. To their credit, they were great about addressing it. And it's the kind of thing that probably wouldn't have continued if someone had been onsite. I also signed my kid up for swimming lessons, only to find out a few lessons in that they're not equipped to teach children her age. Before committing to a pool membership, I tried reaching out to the staff a few times to see if they could accommodate a child her age, but unfortunately no one ever got back to me. I do wish I'd known this beforehand, because I likely wouldn't have purchased the membership in the first place. Overall the staff I've encountered have been kind and helpful, so my issue isn't with them personally. It wasn't all bad, my family has some nice memories of the pool. But for the membership price, I would've hoped for better communication and more consistent oversight of the facility.

I used to come here all the time when I was a Silicon Valley engineer. They had noon time swim for…read more$2 from noon to 1pm. Now the noon time swim hours have been extended from noon to 1:30pm now with a commensurate bump in price to $3, so you're still getting pretty good bang for your buck. The facilities are a bit on the older side (shallow and small gutters, peeling concrete), but the water is heated and they keep the chlorine levels low. So basically this pool gets the job done for all your lap swimming needs! And seriously, you're not going to find a better lap swimming price anywhere. Parking is also a breeze and free. There are several lifeguards, and they all seem very attentive. I stopped on the wall to fix my goggles for a bit, and I saw one of the lifeguards lean over to make sure I was doing okay. That was much appreciated, because even though most of the noon-time swimmers look like they know what they're doing, you never know when someone might get into trouble with a cramp or trouble breathing. The locker rooms definitely need an upgrade, and it would be great to have some lockers to lock up your valuables. But the water is always super hot, so no complaints on that end.
