I was a healthy 27 year old before this dude did a hack job of a surgery on me. After a routine, laparoscopic surgery he performed to remove my gallbladder, I ended up in a COMA, spending 7 months in the hospital, and needing 22 (!!) additional surgeries to repair the damage. I had, thankfully, been transferred under the table by another doctor to a different hospital that was able to step in and save my life. I had a 3% chance of survival at that point, they said. Because of Andrew Renner's negligent care, I had to have most of my intestines removed, was given a colostomy bag, and was placed on a longs term feeding tube. He even once talked about my looks and called me ugly to nurses in the hospital and my mom happened to be walking behind him in the hall and over heard him. Totally unprofessional and rude. I never once received any sort of apology or post- op care to fix his errors when he was well aware of how badly I was declining medically and how terrible to a surgeon he was for me. If I could have sued him (California caps the statute of limitations at 1 year, and I have been trying to recover from this for 3 years now) I would have in a heart beat. I just wasn't healthy enough to pursue legal action against him. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Renner. I was diagnosed with Breast cancer at age 30 back in July. After a few delays (insurance issues and a bad oncologist), I finally was able to see Dr. Renner in early August. His staff is FANTASTIC, professional, and friendly, and put me at ease in a scary situation. Dr. Renner is as good as a surgeon, and as good as a person gets - he fast-tracked my unilateral mastectomy (he was first doctor I'd seen at that point who actually showed some concern for my situation), and his staff were prompt on following up with me pre-surgery. I'm very happy with the results of my mastectomy, and I healed without complications. Our follow-up appointments were quick and concise. I had an emergency colostomy surgery followed by a reversal colostomy surgery with Dr Renner in 2020. During both hospital admissions, which were 4/5 days each, Dr Renner visited me every day (including over Christmas and Memorial Day holidays.) It was the highlight of my day to get his updates, with his unprecedented experience and knowledge, on my situation. I felt like I was in the best hands and completely at ease that he was my surgeon for the reversal. Dr Renner responded with urgency on how to fix any issues that came up; from low blood levels to pain relief to other damaged organs from my condition, meaning my hospital stays were minimized and my body was given all it was needed to heal. During the post surgery visits, his appointments were kept on time with very little waiting. He has a direct and efficient bedside manner, which I appreciated. He also made his number available to call him at any time. Emails and calls from the office staff were also prompt and friendly. Dr Renner is my hero - he saved my life! Dr. Renner removed a scalp cyst from the top of my head back in 1999. He was excellent. Talked me through the whole process , made sure he want hurting me. Very comforting, very caring doctor and human being. This was not my first experience with Dr. Renner. In 1991, I had hernia surgery , and Dr. Renner handled my post op follow up. I was referred to Dr. Renner by SCAN, for Gall Bladder removal. During our pre-op consultation I found him to be informative, engaging, and funny, asking continually if I had any questions. I did, and he answered them. the morning of surgery at Providence St. Joe's, , he stopped by the pre-op ready room to say hi, and gave a thumbs up. While I did not se whim again, I was pleased to awaken hours later to find things had gone according to the plan everyone had laid out. My primary doctor recommended I go see Dr.Renner for some stomach issues. I went to the office today for the first time and it was definitely a covid hazard. There were 6 people waiting in a super small office. To top it off the Dr himself acted as if I should have went to him with a diagnosis. Dr. Renner just operated on my yesterday from a umbilical hernia. I never received the run down on ANYTHING. He didn't explain anything to me didn't receive to post instructions. When I asked him about "mesh" he came out with some other joking bullshit stalemate. After I got out of surgery the nurses at surgery center Glendale didn't help much either. I had a perforated colon that burst. I had emergency colostomy surgery by Dr. Renner. He came in to my hospital room and explained what he was going to do. I had to wear an ostomy bag to poop in to for three months and then he'd do a second reversal surgery to reconnect the pipes. So I had two hospital stays and two surgeries and had several appointments with Dr. Renner. I was asked by the hospital staff at Providence St. Joseph Hospital several times who was my surgeon, and each time I said Dr. Renner, their eyes would light up and tell me he's the best surgeon and that he even performs complex surgeries on some patients that other surgeons don't want to do because of the risk factor. While in the hospital he visited me before surgery and every day came in to see how I was doing and check the incisions. Every concern I had he gave an immediate reply and told me what to expect and everything he said was true. I could not ask for a better Doctor of General Surgery. He was voted one of the top ten surgeons. He truly has a gift. I thank God that he saved my life and I appreciate his friendliness and excellent bed side manner. read more

I have suffered with intestinal problems for nearly 20 years. During that time I was diagnosed with nothing more than gastritis and because I was not 50 yet my insurance company REFUSED to pay for a colonoscopy. Over the last 5 years I've had no insurance at all. Just this year I was able to obtain medical insurance again and just in time as the situation became unbearable. I went to the ER but signed out AMA after being given antibiotics. I thought it would just go away with treatment. A few months later I was back in the ER and admitted. A few days worth of IV antibiotics then I was introduced to Doctor Renner Dr Renner is kind, caring and pretty darn funny. Great bedside manner! He explained fully what was wrong and that surgery was imminent. (diverticulitis with perforation and abscess) I was pretty sick, surgery and 10 days worth of hospital stay sick. Dr Renner came every day following the surgery (even weekends) to personally check on my status, meds, condition and ask me how I was feeling or doing. I went for my follow up visit with him today. All is well and I will likely never see him again as he was the recommended specialist sent in, not my primary care doctor. I cannot recommend Doctor Renner highly enough! read more

My mother had emergency Gall Bladder surgery with Dr. Renner. He was the doctor on staff at the time of the emergency and when they told my mother who would be during the surgery she was not happy. She had been referred to Dr. Renner to do a lumpectomy 2 years earlier and was not happy with him then. She was assured that he would do a good job and it was an emergency so she complied. 2 years earlier the lumpectomy that was performed looked like someone had beaten her up and she had to have blood removed every week from the area as hematomas continued to form. Now after the gallbladder surgery she asked the doctor if there were any food restrictions and he told her NO! She has tried to resume her normal eating( which wasn't much to begin with) and is sick all the time. She feels the Doctor could have counseled her more on how she was to eat after the surgery since she had stomach issues to begin with. She wants it be known that she feels Dr. Renner was not a considerate and concerned doctor and would not recommend his services to anyone. read more

I can't rate Dr. Renner and his staff's performance better. It took a while to get the first appointment, which was a bit frustrating, but I was pleasantly surprised at the professionalism and quality of the office. He was very straightforward in the diagnosis, explained the procedure, and talked about the expected recovery. He seemed to genuinely care about my getting better. He was also very kind to fit me into his surgical schedule more quickly than usual to accommodate my schedule and his staff worked extra hard to get the approval needed for the surgical procedure. He really makes you feel secure that he's going to do an excellent job and you're going to recover well. He also just comes across as a nice, genuine guy. read more

I consider myself lucky to have been referred to Dr. Renner. First of all, the office staff was friendly (huge plus) and Christina , who took my temp and BP was very nice and a calming influence. Dr. Renner came in, introduced himself, and I immediately felt at ease. He was patient with me, let me explain my concerns in detail, listened carefully to my questions, and then answered everything clearly and and left me very satisfied with the office visit. Luckily, no surgery scheduled at this time, but if necessary in the future, I'm quite comforted to know that Dr. Renner will be my surgeon. read more

My Experience with Doctor Renner treating me was the worst experience of my life. Do not go to him. He ruined my life with a surgical mesh in 2016 and I am still struggling horribly today because of it. He doesn't listen to your needs, will neglect you directly after surgery if your in mind splitting pain, and shrug you off as if you don't matter as a human being. I am writing this years later because the damage that he and his products have done to me screwed me for the rest of my life. In California they make it impossible to sue your Surgeon...Even for EXTREME NEGLIGENCE!! I will not stop looking for a way to sue you for all that you have done. I wish upon you the torture that you inflicted on me all those years ago! This man should have his medical license removed! So unless you feel like rolling the dice with your health and life....don't ever take the risk. One of these days I will find a way to sue you! read more

Dr. Renner performed my gallbladder removal surgery in Oct. 2012, at Sherman Oaks Hospital. He never went over what the surgery entailed - did not give me ANY information. This was an emergent situation (as opposed to a scheduled surgery), but still it would have been nice to know the following; I would have 4 incisions in my abdomen, they would be closed with staples, I would be intubated during surgery, etc. Nothing. No information pre-operation, no post-op care information. I met him the day before my surgery, and then he visited me the morning of surgery. Neither of these visits lasted more than 30 seconds. I kept thinking at some point he would go over the surgery with me - tell me what was going to happen. When I was wheeled in for surgery, I met the anesthesiologist, and a nurse, then I was put under. I never even saw Dr. Renner before the surgery, or after I woke up. He came by my room the next morning, stood at the foot of my bed, and gave me a thumbs up signal, said my liver levels looked good, walked out of the room. He was there for 5 seconds. Then he left to go on vacation for 4 weeks without telling me, as I spent the next 3 days in the hospital losing blood from bleeding internally, until they finally gave me a transfusion. When I was discharged from the hospital, I called his office to find out when I should have my staples removed. They said to come in when he got back from vacation (nearly 4 weeks after my surgery. The hospital, as well as everything I can find online, says staples should be removed 7-10 days after surgery. Basically, the whole experience was a dehumanizing nightmare, which I now have nightmares about. I wouldn't send my worst enemy to this hack. read more
