I left home at 18 to go to college in a distant state. For over 50 years I have had a number of personal physicians, having been with Reno Family Physicians for over 15 years, beginning with Dr. Schaup. My current physician, Dr. Ganta and her staff, David, simply could not be better. They spend more than enough time with me, and answer all my questions. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I scheduled a new patient appointment for a UTI and neck pain that I needed help with. The office called me a few days later stating the provider wouldn't be available and needed to reschedule.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I was asked to come in 30 minutes early for a new patient appointment, which I did. I arrived at 2:00 pm and was not called in to a room until 2:50pm. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I finally get into a room, the medical assistant asks me what I'm there for, so I tell her UTI and neck pain. She immediately cuts me off and says "Oh no. We're not going to be able to do all that. Wow, I wish you would have said something sooner! There's all this bunch of other stuff I have to do then!" and acts as if this is all a big inconvenience.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I just sat down, and I'm a new patient so how was I to know this? I've never had this problem with ANY other provider. She also tells me how no, they're not going to address my neck pain problem today since they don't have time. She told me each appointment is only 15 minutes. It became clear this isn't a clinic but a conveyor belt for getting patients in and out as fast as possible. Overall, the professionalism and bedside manner were lacking. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Once Dr. McDonald finally came in, my misgivings only worsened. She would ask me a question such as "any fever or chill?" and I would answer, then a few moments later she would ask again "Did I already ask if you have fever or chills?" I said yes you already did ask. She said "Well do you?"[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I didn't feel I got the attention a new patient should get. How could I if all they allow is 15 minutes per appointment? [[HIGHLIGHT]]I needed a follow up appointment for the neck pain and I agreed due to how severe it is, I needed help and they had appointments available same day or next day--according to the medical assistant. The provider sent me over to the scheduler who tried to schedule me a month out.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I let her know I wanted to come back as soon as possible. She gave me a look like a was stupid or crazy for asking that.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] She gets up to ask the provider who is standing nearby "You want her back in a month right? She wants to come back ASAP." The provider confirms I can come back whenever. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The scheduler finally helps me schedule an appointment.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I ended up canceling this appointment since I realized I wouldn't get the help I needed here. The five star is for the ONE person that had the biggest impact on my experience. Honestly, I don't usually leave reviews, but I feel I need to this time. First, I have repeatedly felt like my concerns are not being taken seriously. For example, I told my provider that my legs were hurting, swollen, and painful to the touch. The concern was brushed off with little discussion before moving on to another topic. I have brought up multiple health concerns over time, and many of them seem to be dismissed rather than properly addressed. My previous provider, Shannon W., was wonderful and always took the time to listen. Unfortunately, my experience with my current provider, Horback, has been the complete opposite. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I left feeling unheard and frustrated, and like my time and money were wasted.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Second, my experience with the front desk was equally disappointing. Dr Hornack took over as our family physician when Dr Caughlin retired. He was amazing. I have been going to this doctors office since it was down by St. Mary's back in the 80s. Dr. Uppu is my third doctor there. Her assistant Felicia is absolutely the best. The doctor is friendly and warm and never makes you feel like she is rushing through your appointment. She listens and address all concerns. Felicia always returns my calls very same day and is always very accommodating and friendly. The staff is also very helpful. Highly recommended. And this office since they moved is a good drive for me but I stay with them because I have confidence in them. read more

I've been using this practice for over 30 years, first with Dr Anderson who basically saved my life and Dr. Jennifer Hornback after Dr. Anderson left to start a geriatric practice. Dr.Hornback has had a number of medical assistants with Rose being the current one. I like Rose. She's efficient and funny and she always returns my calls the same day! As to my doctor I love her. I never feel rushed. She thinks of things to ask me about my health that I might not think of. I've had a number of things happen the past few years that have been kind of odd but we roll with it together and figure out a plan. She cares about my health and appreciates my sense of humor! As to the front office staff they've always been great and Rhonda who does the scheduling thinks I'm funny so I love her! Very snappy with her answers so I asked to be transferred to her supervisor. I work for Renown and am floored when I here the way some of the staff talks to patients the way this scheduler talked to me today. Unbelievable! Tis the season. I don't usually leave one star reviews but I'm so disappointed in my Drs office today I had to be honest here. I've been a patient here for many years and haven't had any problems until today. Dr Simpson was my previous doctor whom I loved but she left the practice so now I see Dr Stockholm (who I've liked the two times I've seen her.) I called at 9 this morning to try and get an appointment and had to leave a voicemail for the scheduler after waiting several minutes on hold. I wanted to go in today because I was diagnosed with the flu last Saturday and not getting much better. At 11 I called again getting no return call from the scheduler. The operator put me through and again I was on hold then the voicemail picked up again! I called and told the operator I would keep calling until I could talk to someone who could assist me in making an appointment. She put me through to someone in the next office over who went next door to find someone and then transferred me to Dr Stockholm's PA Jennifer who apologized and said she didn't know why no one was calling me back. I told her I'd left a message for the scheduler and she said "Oh". After explaining my issue to her I was told there were no appointments today and I should go back to the hospital if I was that sick! I told her I'd had the flu shot and was told I should be over it by Wednesday and I'm prone to bronchitis and really wanted to get checked out. Basically I was out of luck, I wasn't even offered to walk in and wait. She said she would call in a refill prescription for me but it hasn't happened yet although I left another message on her voicemail after calling the pharmacy and being told they didn't have it. Not sure what the point of having a GP is if you can't get in when you're sick! read more

I have been in a couple of times to see Dr Verma and He is Great BUT the staff ALWAYS makes me feel like I am an inconvenience. They seem like they absolutely HATE their jobs and anyone involved in it. I did mention it to the Dr today and he kinda blew it off. You would think he of all people would care about the care that the staff is giving the patients. The last time I was in it was the same. I had mentioned I was seen at Concentra for a fall I took and the Dr. Said he would get the results of the xrays and contact me to discuss them. Unfortunately there isn't a zero star rating. This place is revolting and I will NEVER go back! I'm a medically educated patient that is looking for a quality general practice doctor. I am looking for someone that will listen to me and take care of my needs.. I saw Dr. Schaupp and could not have been more appalled. He was over an hour late in to see me and once in, he proceeded to check things that had NOTHING to do with my visit or the nurses notes. Then when I mentioned why I was there and the things I needed to get done and checked out, he interrupted me saying, "(he) doesn't have unlimited time," and refused to do anything I asked and it almost got hostile before he reluctantly gave me a referral to physical therapy and shooed me out the door. I am still outraged about my experience as I have tirelessly searched for someone who gives a shit about his/her profession and ALL their patients, new and old. May be my "healthy" appearance as a young man made doctor wonder why I was there and thought I was a hypochondriac and other patients may get their desired care... even so I don't believe doctors should pick and choose whom they give more or less care to. Okay only if you just need to request something done or have annual bloodwork, otherwise, there isn't much CARE here. I have been a patient for about 20 years, lately because I don't go in much (inertia), not knowing where else to go, and insurance covers them. Not any more! I have seen Dr. Jennifer Hornback for the last 10 years and she has been less and less engaged or interested over this time. About 2 years ago, I went in for an annual exam and we discussed the routine tests needed and then she took a sample for a test we never discussed. I felt this was dishonest and a violation of me. In 2020, I was having spine trouble and asked for imaging, which she ordered. When the results came back, her assistant called and passed along the diagnoses and said Hornback was not available to discuss the results over the phone. That Hornback NEVER calls patients back and that if I wanted to discuss the results I needed to make another appointment. In my experience, they just want to increase revenue by doing more in-house (unnecessary) tests and getting more appointments, not taking CARE of patients. I won't go back ever, there are too many other practices in town now. read more

I still see Dr. Schaup here and I think he's great. That said however I don't think I can continue patronizing this facility. The admin staff and most of the MAs are so rude it's had to comprehend. In the middle of checking in they'll take a PERSONAL phone call and put their hand out telling you to wait. I can leave message after message for the schedulers and NEVER get a return call. Bedside manner by the MA's is terrible. Bitter and unfriendly attitudes. Unsurprisingly EVERYONE here turns their name badges around and don't introduce themselves so you have no idea if you're talking to a CNA, MA, LPN, RN or Doctor. I have been a patient for over 20 years. I loved Dr. Simpson but when she left I was put with these new nurse practitioners. They have changed. One of their nurses told me that my insurance short-changed me on a medication I have been taking for 30 years. They didn't like covering my medication because of the cost. She was trying to cover her tracks because they re-prescribed it wrong. I probably should call them on medical malpractice. My health is not good and It is a medication one can't drop the dosage they have been taking suddenly. I wanted to talk to the "doctor" but was told I would have to make an appointment. They were rude and wouldn't listen to my problem even yelling at me in the waiting room. I couldn't get anyone to listen to me! I am currently a new patient seeing Dr. Horgan and have only been in the office twice. So far my impressions from the little time I've spent there, I'm not highly impressed. Dr. Horgan seems to be just very neutral meaning he's not overly friendly but he's not mean either. He's just very blah. I will have to see him more to make a better judgment. Now his medical asst Jennifer does not know the proper way to deal with patients. She's crude, snappy, and just plain acts irritated by being asked questions. With all these negative reviews about the staff here, you'd think they'd change some things. I originally chose Reno Family Physicians as my primary care provider because they had more appointment availability than Renown. I ended up being assigned to Dr. Verma. I wasn't too sure what to think of him during my first visit, but I've come to appreciate the quality of care that he provides. He listens carefully to my questions and concerns, and doesn't hesitate to refer to a specialist if he thinks there's something that merits further attention. This is a welcome change over other primary care offices I've been to in the past, where providers have been very hesitant to refer to specialists. The office itself an older facility that could probably benefit from updating, but it's clean and the front office staff is efficient. I've never had to wait more than 10-15 minutes to be seen. read more

I have been going to RFP for several years now. The only reason I continue to stay with RFP is because of the knowledgeable, patient, caring, and understanding physician whom I see here, Dr. Schaupp, as well as his MA, Cheryl. Aside from my visit with the doctor himself, I cannot say that my experience with RFP has been positive. I have been disappointed consistently by the other staff members. To elaborate, the front desk staff are unprofessional, loud, unapproachable, and inconsiderate. When I call the office, I am always on hold for a long time, and it is difficult to reach the right people. I am always satisfied with the MA Cheryl's quick response times. She is efficient, helpful, and answers her voicemails within 24 hours. I must also say that the scheduler in the office is friendly and accommodating. The most frustrating thing at RFP is the untimely appointments. My wait time for every single appointment I have ever gone to has been over an hour, which is inefficient and a waste of time. Despite confirming with the scheduler that the appointment duration is no more than an hour, I always have to set aside a couple hours for any office visit. I hope that RFP is able to make great strides with improving their office workflow to ensure that patients are seen in a timely manner. The only reason I've been putting up with the poor office management is the stellar patient care I have received from the physician. read more

So the waiting area, is well dated but I can easily get past that. I have been seeing Katrina Baron, RN for the last two years and have nothing but kind things to say about her or her MA Jennifer. They have always been kind and caring, and not judgy. Katrina will sit and talk through whatever questions you may have, and offer suggestions. I don't always get to see Katrina if I am sick, but the fact that I can get into see someone for a sick appointment is important to me. My previous doctor never was available when I was sick so that meant Urgent Care visits, which always cost more. Yes sometimes they don't always call back right away, but they do call back. I get that they are a busy medical office, and they take patients in the order that they come in. sometimes that means that I have to wait. read more

I had a appointment with Dr. Uhalde on Aug. 24th. She sent me for a CT scan and blood work on Fri, Aug 30th. I was told that the blood work and CT scan results would be available the next business day. I called the office Wed, Sept. 4th to see if my results were in. I got an automatic voice message saying my call would be returned in 24 hours. By Friday, Sept. 6th, I had received no call. I went to the office in person on Friday. Spoke to Carla, Dr, Uhalde's assistant. I asked when I could expect to hear from the doctor. Carla said she would give her the message. Today is Sept 17th, and I have yet to hear from the doctor. I will never return. Update: Got a call on Oct 1st to come in for a follow up on my tests of a month ago. Called back, of course, got an answering machine. Told Carla that the service was unacceptable and not to call me again. Imagine my surprise when I got another call on October 29th, telling me to come in for a follow up! Obviously, they don't listen to their patients (customers). THERE'S A DOCTOR ON EVERY CORNER. If the customer service is bad, people will go elsewhere, as I have. read more

It's a doctor mill. If you need to go for a sore throat, go on ahead. If you have actual issues, this isn't the place for you. I've seen Dr. Simpson and she's nice and competent, but the rest of the staff is pretty awful. Her assistant is rude and abrasive, and takes a long time to get back to you. If you're being seen for an illness, chances are you won't see your specific doctor. Some doctors will not accept your insurance, so be sure to check when you call. read more

Both my husband and I have had significant delays getting appointments at referred doctors because of pitifully basic errors in job performance (no phone number in referral, wrong referral code, etc). Had my first appointment here on the 18th. I've been very sick lately with very bad GI problems and have been seeing a GI doc too. I had to see a primary before returning to my GI doc therefore I scheduled an appointment with Doctor Michael O'Brien. He is younger than I expected yet seems very nice. Only complaint so far is when I told him I had quickly been losing weight from being so sick, his response was, "Well is that a bad thing?" And all I could think about right then was, A: Yes, especially if I'm not intending to lose it, if I'm losing it from the constant diarrhea and vomiting then no I don't think that's a good thing.... And B: I mean...are you trying to call me fat or something??....other than that, no complaints and I'll upgrade my review in 2months after my next appointment. read more

I came to do a review about my poor experience with them on the phone this week, and expected to see other terrible reviews, so I am not surprised they are at the bottom of the scale. I called to find a new family physician in this area and wanted a specific doctor who was listed as really good on the "Healthgrades" site. Unfortunately, he is associated with Reno Family Physicians. When I called, all I got was an answering machine asking me to leave a phone number for a callback. That is the first sign of terrible service to come. They called back hours later and when I asked for the specific doctor, she said he is available, but uses a "Wellness program" for $1650, so are you interested in that?" I said maybe, but don't know what it is; are there other options? She says one word... "HOLD" and puts me on hold for someone else to answer, who asks me the same questions all over again about my insurance company and plans. In fact, she rudely cut me off in the middle of my first sentence to ask about insurance. So I get the idea that they aren't interested in wasting 10 seconds of time to hear my opening question if I don't have the insurance they want. Then I got transferred to yet another 3rd lady who asks again the same questions and put me on hold. Then the line went dead. I'm thinking they did this on purpose. I'm not calling back again. These people are very rude and snappy on the phone and you can never get them when you call. I can't imagine what the doctors are like if they allow their staff to be this way. My guess is that the doctors are also snappy, unfriendly, and terse. I should have known this would not be the right place as soon as I heard about the $1650 "wellness program". It says to me that they want a fee to have me come in even when I am not ill and pay for something I don't need and won't be reimbursed by insurance. This also tells me they aren't interested in helping you if you are on Medicare. Go somewhere else and don't bother to waste your time here. read more

As far as I can tell, this place doesn't deserve anything below a 4.5. New to the area, uninsured while between jobs, and strapped to find a doctor quickly in order to get a refill, I called a few doctors around the area to see if anyone offered cash discounts. Reno Family Physicians offers a % discount, and they were able to get us in before our script ran out... Had a Friday mid-day appointment and it was nice & quiet. We had the place nearly to ourselves, so there was barely a wait. We saw an LPN, Laura, who was friendly, compassionate and really seemed to sympathize with what was going on. She worked with us on a solution that we agreed on, and she treated us with just as much patience and care as she would an insured patient. We did not feel looked down upon for having been thrown under the bus in this chaotic time of "affordable health care"... Finally, Laura even requested we call her back and follow-up to let her know how things are going. Wow! We left feeling cared for and appreciated, which is a rare thing in the health care industry these days. read more
