I booked Joel months in advance for my wedding, signed contract, and spent time working on list of songs. Two days before the wedding he cancelled citing a family issue which I was sympathetic to. I had to find another DJ on short notice and when I contacted Joel about returning the deposit, something he said he was going to do because he was the party cancelling, he never responded and I was never issued a refund. He might be a good DJ but he's a terribly unethical business owner and I'd recommend anyone considering him find someone else who isn't a flight risk at the last moment before one of the biggest moments of your life. read more

My husband contacted Joel on relatively short notice to DJ our wedding at Forest House Lodge in Foresthill, near Auburn, CA. There was a small mix-up about dates (my husband's fault, not Joel's) and after a momentary bride freak-out, Joel quickly found a solve that allowed him to reschedule the other gig and participate in our wedding. He was very professional, conscientious, willing to work with us on price. I consider the DJ to be one of the most important parts of the wedding. Therefore, it was my most stressful choice. I researched a ton of DJs and met with just as many. When I met with Joel and read the reviews about him on weddingwire.com and Yelp (though now I see more negative reviews), I was so excited that this was going to work out just perfectly. Joel might be a great DJ, but I wouldn't know because he cancelled on me one week before my wedding and let me know that he would be sending his partner, Dirk. His e-mailed reason: I have a wedding (civil union) that I booked for one of my Djs that he is not comfortable doing (not dirk). For some reason, that meant that my wedding was affected. Dirk played a couple bars of the wrong song for my processional before some silence and then he played a different wrong song for my processional. Again, there was another long pause before the recessional song making for several uncomfortable and disappointing situations at the ceremony alone. Dirk did not play the correct First Dance song. My husband had to give him his iPhone for Dirk to plug in and play our song. This also left me all alone on the dance floor...another great awkward and disappointing moment. He did not care if he had the pronunciations of the bridal party correct and made inappropriate comments on the microphone. After the last minute cancellation of our original DJ and all of the errors during every single important part of the wedding, we felt that payment should be adjusted. The night of my wedding I received an email threatening to pursue legal action. So disappointing. I knew the huge importance of the DJ and felt like I did my due diligence. My company home office sent him payment for $200.00 more then he should receive, he did not call, he just cashed the check with out even speaking to us. I was leaving messages up to 2 days before our event with no reply. Needless to say I was freaking out that we prepaid all of that money and might not have a DJ. I persisted and finally he must not have looked at the caller ID and answered the phone. From our first meeting, we connected perfectly. During the planning of the reception and music Joel was so helpful with ideas and suggestions. If we had a question he would get back to us almost immediately. Right before the ceremony when everyone was scurrying to set everything up, get dressed and staged we were notified that there wasn't electricity at the garden. As a mom so nervous but our school staff took away all of my fears. I picked her up and asked how was the dj. She said he didn't show but the moms and staff got music for them. Such an awful lesson to learn so young. This might of been just a dance than goodness not a wedding or an anniversary. If this is your only option use your Ipod. I wish I could tell you that Joel with Reno Mobile DJ's was great, but unfortunately I wouldn't know. I had been talking with Joel for about two-three months planning a dance for our 6th grade students and everything was looking good. Until it wasn't. We had a hard time getting him to send the paperwork and had left several messages, texts, and emails. I was about to give up and find another company (I should have followed my gut) when he finally got all the paperwork to me about a week or so before the event. Today (Friday May 16, 2014) I called him to make sure all was good and did not hear from him. Our event was starting at 4:30 and he had told us that he would be there between 3:00 and 3:30. I finally got ahold of him at 3:18 and he told me all was good and he would see me very soon. Needless to say he NEVER showed up and stopped picking up the phone when I would call!!!! I am happy to say that our school has amazing staff and parents and we were able to get all our phones and laptops together to put together a fun playlist for our students, but Joel's inability to do what he said he would do and his audacity to say he would see me in a few when he never showed up is beyond excusable. We hired Joel for our wedding this summer. Overall he's a good DJ I was impressed the day of when he was there early all set up had all my music done perfectly. I had a special mix for my Father/Daughter dance and he played it well and our guests loved it. He kept my guests happy and dancing and basically turned out to be my wedding coordinator. He was very helpful. He also had a very fair fee which was great because a lot of DJ's take advantage of that part for a wedding. The following is the list of things that they ruined during our wedding reception! -They play Lips of an Angel by Hinder (a song about a man cheating on his girl) which is highly inappropriate during a wedding reception -They did not play the money dance song which i specifically requested and I had many guys that were willing to pay a few hundred dollars each and they did not follow through - If you have ever heard of the Cupid Shuffle, It is a 7 minute song that repeats itself the entire song and professional DJ's know not to play the song more than 3 minutes. -There were actually multiple songs that we requested that were not played, and instead played horrible music that did not cater to most of our guests who were older (some hip-hop songs) -We had a whole funny skit to do for our garter toss and they ruined that too, so people had no idea what was going on. -The worst thing on top of not playing the money dance song, was that we only met with the owner and NEVER met with the DJ that actually did our reception (when we first met with our DJ we were told that he was the one doing our reception and then he changed it after we turned in our contracts!) I think that this is one of the BIGGEST reasons that our reception went downhill the way it did! If you want an AMAZING reception DO NOT hire these horrible Disc Jockeys, do yourself a favor and find someone that is creditable! What a shame, they ruined our reception! read more

FAR EXCEDED MY EXPECTATIONS!! Joel kept my dance floor packed all night. My husband and I arrived at our reception at 5 and Joel executed our timeline to perfection. My request was all the traditional reception events, such as dinners, special dances, money dance, toasts, cake cutting, slideshow and bouquet and garter tosses, be done by 8 so we could dance the night away. AND THATS WHAT WE DID!!! I even had very specific requests and he delivered on his promises. Guests at my reception were really upset that the reception was over because of how much fun we had dancing. Not all DJ's can pull off the job Joel did. TERRIBLE!!! When we first called this company they were great, especially when they received our cash prepayment. Then it went downhill! The DJ (owner) NEVER followed thru with what he was supposed to do, never returned e-mails or phone calls. We FINALLY got in touch with him about 5 days before the wedding when we left a message saying we were starting to panic. He messed up on the intro song for the grandparents/parents, which in turn messed up the opening song for the bridal party. He changed the music 3 times before the bride even made it down the isle. He had to ask a guest what the name was of the bride & groom before the introduction. He never played the anniversary song which was extremely important to us. He downloaded the instrumental version of the Father/Daughter dance. It was the most important song/dance of the evening! He fumbled thru and finally found the musical version after everyone was watching for several minutes. We told him not to play a specific song for the garter toss and he played it anyway! We told him we loved country music and he didn't play any of it, even what we requested. He wouldn't play special songs that the bridal party and family requested. He didn't play any of the songs that we had on our "Must Play" list. After 4 months of stressing our frustration on how he ruined everything he said he would compensate us. I started to get nervous but he eventually called me about a week before my wedding. I got lucky, he did not flake on me. I just found out that he just recently cancelled on my friend who booked him for her wedding in just a week. Joel was amazing! Honestly, he was the one vendor I felt most comfortable with leading up to my wedding and he came thru tremendously! After meeting with Joel and his fiancé, who runs the photo booth portion of this dynamic duo, I was completely at ease knowing the music and photo booth would be phenomenal. And they did not disappoint. The music choices and feel of the night was exactly as I had imagined. Even though the time line got changed, due to the other vendors running late, Joel quickly and smoothly adjusted things so that everything appeared to go just as it should have. I was referred to Joel with Reno Mobile Djs by a Tahoe wedding coordinator. She said that Joel was a relatively new vendor at the venue she managed but that she'd had good experiences with him thus far. We booked him in September 2013. Shortly after signing a contract with Joel for our wedding in August 2014, he called me and asked if I'd be willing to pay up-front for a discounted rate and listed personal reasons as to why he needed the money quickly. Since he'd come with a reference from someone we trust, we decided to pay the full amount up-front. After paying, we didn't hear from Joel again until the week before our wedding (August 22, 2014 - almost a year later). I reached out to Joel via email multiple times in the months leading up to the wedding with zero response. I called him two weeks before the wedding and finally got a hold of him. He quickly told me he needed to call me back in two hours. He never called. Finally on August 22, 2014 (8 days before our wedding) Joel emailed me saying that he didn't think he'd be able to make it to our wedding and would start looking for another DJ. He detailed very personal reasons as to why he couldn't make it which was highly unprofessional. I responded saying I was disappointed that he waited this long to inform us and to please send our refund. Joel agreed to send our refund "ASAP". That evening, after I spent the day frantically finding another DJ, Joel emailed me to say he was now available and would be there. I politely informed him we preferred to go with our new DJ and to please send our refund. He responded with "I'm sorry but I'm not in a position to cancel". He then claimed that he never canceled our contract, even though he consented to refund us, and therefore didn't need to refund me. Joel is now ignoring my requests for reimbursement. He is highly unprofessional and clearly has a track record of canceling on clients last minute (read reviews below). In one of his last emails Joel wrote: "I am sorry, but your wedding will pass in a week ... My ______________is forever..." (I excluded the personal reasons he listed). Do not book with this company. My fiance and I are starting a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and looking into small claims court. Luckily we have connections in the Reno-Tahoe area with multiple wedding coordinators, vendors and venues and have reached out to all of them regarding Reno Mobile DJs.
