Because it was close to the World Cup, almost every rental location was fully booked with tourists, and after visiting multiple places, I honestly started to lose hope. After a short conversation, Son immediately understood what my family needed. He recommended a Chevrolet Suburban for its spacious interior, room for two baby car seats, comfortable seating for additional family members, and a large trunk for all our luggage. It turned out to be the perfect choice for our trip. What truly stood out was Son's professionalism and kindness. He took the time to walk me through the SUV's features, carefully inspected the vehicle with me, and made sure I felt comfortable before leaving. Knowing that we had less than an hour before heading out of town, he also sped up the checkout process to help us get on the road quickly. Most importantly, Son went above and beyond by finding me an excellent rental rate as a graduation gift. That level of care and thoughtfulness meant so much to me and my family. I went from feeling completely hopeless with no vehicle available to driving one of the best SUVs I could have asked for during such an important moment in my life. All with someone from Thrifty apologizing and saying they will look into it. There's a reason Thrifty/Dollar has by far the worst reviews of any car rental company at Houston's airport(and maybe any airport). The one problem I didn't have was a long line to wait in. I had prepaid my rental through AmEx's travel service and it said all charges and fees were paid. When I got to the counter the agent asked for my DL and credit card. I declined the prepaid gas and extra insurances because AmEx already covers rental car insurance. Of course the chip on my new AmEx card wasn't working so he said I couldn't use it. I pulled out a Visa and he charged a $200 deposit PLUS another $159 for insurance even though I had declined it. He said my credit card wouldn't cover it even though AmEx specifically covers it. I was about to leave and go to another counter but he pointed out that since my reservation was prepaid that I couldn't cancel it!! So I took their outrageously overpriced insurance (it was for a 3 day rental) and went to the aisle to pick a car. An attendant had just dropped off a Toyota Sentra. I got in but noticed it looked worn with 25,000 miles and smelled of stale cigarette smoke. There was a Kia Soul next to it but someone had noted there were ignition problems in a grease marker on the window. So I went to the next car, another Toyota Sentra, but it seemed to have a dead battery since nothing came on. The only other car was another Kia sedan that had even more (38,000) miles on it than the first Sentra. So I went back to the Sentra with the stale tobacco smell. So I am going to spend all my free time for the next few days harassing AmEx to convince them not to offer Thrifty/Dollar rental cars. For all the customers smart enough to check reviews in advance, do yourself a favor and pick ANY OTHER rental car company.

The best part is they said they had no vehicles at the same time I had an email with a rental agreement saying the agreement had been adjusted to someone I did not even know and I would be responsible for payment. Annette, the only person at the Westin Hertz location, said she could not do anything more because she was closing and wasn't sure what happened. She even had the wrong credit card for me. She sent me to a nearby location to someone named Natasha who was the manager of that location. She was supposed to be able to fix it all. Another employee who answered the phone at the other Galleria West Loop location said Natasha wasn't in but was helpful enough to call her. I overheard her tell Natasha that I was the customer for whom Annette had messed up the paperwork. I was then told to hold after they realized I could hear them. Annette was by herself, something I have almost never seen at car rental agencies. I have no idea if anyone was properly trained, but I was treated poorly at both locations. No apologies that they did not honor my contract. Its not clear they will not charge me for the stranger to whom they gave my rental. Stay away!!!

They don't answer their phones. Customer service here is horrible. Do not rent your car from here you'll end up paying way more with all their hidden fees!!!

Because if you turn the gas off after your reservation has expired, the car will not turn back on until you pay again. It's a toss up whether your car will be at the location or not. Read the other reviews. We ALL can't be lying. Do it at your own risk. I had to walk over a mile in the hot sun to track down another zipcar, because the original car never showed up. Yes, they charge a $50 late fee, but most people don't care about paying that. I had a TON of errands to run that day, so I didn't return my car on time on time either. Perhaps, if it had not taken nearly two hours to get a replacement car, I would have been able to turn it in on time. One place that I REALLY needed to get to was closed by the time I got there. Just use a regular car rental company if you need dependability, because there is nothing dependable about Zipcar except the late fees. Oh, and the customer service reps are NOT in the United States and English is not their first language. So, calling them to about anything will be challenging or a complete waste of time depending on who answers the phone. Go to a regular brick-and-mortar rental company if you are an ADULT with ADULT business to take care of. Although I appreciated the heads up, I would prefer to not be able to schedule a reservation at an unavailable time. For both reservations, I reserved a full size SUV as I was going 1000+ miles each time and wanted the extra room. The first time, I was told SUVs weren't available so we were upgraded to a van. I appreciated the upgrade as it was waaaaaaaaaaay more room. The second time, we were given a Toyota 4runner. I loved the size but was disappointed in the condition. There was damage on the windshield and maintenance was required. I think the rentals should be serviced and road ready at pick up. Overall, the service is friendly but they could do a better job with the rentals offered. The location is crappy and the parking lot is small.
