WARNING: THIS IS A LONG POST BUT VERY IMPORTANT INFO TO KNOW... Filed a complaint 07/30/26... Rent-A-Center: My Experience with What I Believe Was a Bait-and-Switch I want to share my recent experience with Rent-A-Center so that other consumers will know to read every document carefully before signing anything. I visited my local Rent-A-Center store a couple of weeks ago to return an item to Amazon. After that was done, I browsed around looking at sectional sofas. After seeing one I liked, I spoke with the store manager, Loki Rauschenburg. Once she total me the price, I explained, from the very beginning, that I could not afford more than $130 per month. That was my absolute limit. She went on to say they have a "Cash Same as Cash" program. According to my recollection of our conversation, the manager assured me she would give me a "great discount" and lower the price enough to keep my monthly payment at $130. Based on that understanding, I agreed to move forward with the purchase, Loki wrote up a contract on her computer (which I could not see), assuring me AGAIN, the monthly pmt would be $130.00, and scheduled delivery. When she was done, she said she had my monthly payment at $129.96! YEA! Right? Wrong... She then sent me a copy of the contract via a PDF to my email address (1st RED flag) She never printed it out for me OR went over it and the chgs + fees before I left the store. The day before my furniture was scheduled to be delivered, I finally had the opportunity to carefully review the PDF contract that had been emailed to me. There was a link to it and I kept getting an error message until then. To my surprise, the monthly payment was listed as $156.26--more than $26 above the amount I had specifically said I could afford. When I contacted the manager, she denied ever agreeing to keep my payment at $130 per month. Instead, she offered to remove a charge for something called Benefits+, a program I was never aware I had been enrolledn or offered an explanation about. However, she stated that the monthly liability fee (LDW) could not be removed (here is a clause on RAC own website (Liability Damage Waiver (LDW) is an optional program that protects you from liability in the event your rental product is stolen or damaged due to natural disaster, fire or smoke) and that there was nothing she could do about the interest charges! Another outright LIE!! HUH??? Who pays interest on a Cash purchase??? As a consumer, I find this extremely disappointing. If a salesperson promises one monthly payment during the sales process, only for the written agreement to reflect a significantly higher amount, it leaves customers feeling misled. Whether this resulted from a misunderstanding or poor communication, the outcome is the same: I was presented with terms that were not what I believed I had agreed to. THIS WAS A BAIT-N-SWITCH AS WELL AS FALSE ADVERTISING PER THEIR FLYER ON THEIR STORE WINDOW! This experience reinforced several important lessons: 1. Never rely solely on verbal promises. 2. Read every page of a contract before signing or accepting delivery. 3. Ask for every fee and optional program to be explained in writing at time of purchase before leaving the business 4. Verify the exact monthly payment before committing to a purchase. ALL of these should have been printed out and explained line by line at time of purchase....It was not! Thank goodness, I was finally able, after many attempts on my laptop, to view the "agreement" and found these errors! Had I accepted delivery, I would have been stuck with what she typed up at the store! Yes, I have filed a complaint with their corporate offices and am awaiting a call "upper management" & was told I would receive a call within 48 hrs ...time will tell! I hope Rent-A-Center will review its sales practices to ensure customers fully understand their agreements before delivery is scheduled. Transparency and honesty are essential for building trust, and consumers deserve to know exactly what they are agreeing to before making a financial commitment. Not a all pleased with store manager. I rented a entire living room from the Pahrump store . Sectional, 3 tables and large entrainment center then bought one of the in store TVs. That was in Sept 1, 2021. Made my Oct. 1st payment on time. Oct.8th I purchased my own furniture and contacted the store to pick up the sectional and three tables letting them know I was going to purchase the entertainment center. The store manager not only refused me a partial refund but also refused to apply any balances owed me towards the purchase of the entertainment center. Actually had the nerve to say if my payment was late we could have possibly worked out a deal. Seriously !!!!! Do not go into this store, they are not a customer based business which is bad news in a small town. read more

Shopping at this Rent-Center is pleasant and easy. I have yet to meet an unfriendly employee there. I have rented, appliances, computers. Television , and living room furniture. Everything has been in new condition and I have been pleased with the deals they have helped me get. I could not give the experience a 5 star because it is not unusual for deliveries to be quite late. Once they arrive it's pleasant and professional, but it is pretty inconvenient for it to be brought or picked up 2 hours late. Otherwise I am very happy with the experience. They will rip you off with every chance they get. Got an Asus tablet and was told that it was reformatted. Come to find out it wasn't and it still had whoever the person that had it's password on it. Also the charger and cable were not the original cable instead it was a samsung plug and cable from a cell phone. It was also supposed to come with a pen for the tablet that was not included. read more

So last time I went to rent a center and got a tv. Didn't come in the day I was told . Two days later we received our tv. Went the other day to get a couch thinking okay last time won't happen again. Get a call today oh I'm sorry your couch didn't make it in the truck. I hope to delivery it by Tuesday or Thursday really . That is not good customer service. I could see it happening once but twice now my delivery isn't coming . read more
