How did you spend your day? Did you take the back of your car apart like I had to, to fix the work…read moredone by the "professionals" at U-Haul? Beware my friends, their mechanics installed the wiring in my car using an out-of-date, very labor intensive ($$$) "cut and splice" method from the 1970s. I have to assume they have only one "universal" harness in stock, which they cut your car's wire harness apart, proble around "blowing out" 3 of 4 tail light bulbs, pass some wires thru the body work from inside to the outside lights to splice in the turn signal, that cuts the hatch seal in the process... when all they had to do was plug in to the trailer wire harness plug that car maker provides from the factory. "How do I know this?" you ask? Because I installed the harness in my wife's 1999 Forester some years back, and that 18 year old car had a factory installed 6 pin plug for trailer harnesses available. Guess what? I opened my 2006 Forester and found the very same plug at the same location! Simply put, tthere was no need for the U-Haul folks to cut open the harness and make a mess of things. All they had to do was plug in to the car's wiring. No cutting, probing, or splicing needed to be done. They broke the fasteners that retained the harness against the body and tail light assembly and left their wires hanging. I spent the afternoon "cleaning up the mess" of wires hanging everywhere... if we ever had a flat tire, we risk pulling out the trailer wiring. I also replaced 3 of the 4 burnt out bulbs, re-wired the external wires inside and connected to the factory installed plug. When is U-Haul going to update their processes to 1999 standards? I did call the store and complain, but got no appologies or compensation. I guess this is the way they have done business for years. So beware, if you get your wiring done at U-Haul, be sure to mention that modern cars in this day and age, now have factory supplied plugs in them for wiring guys to attach to. It seems some of these guys never got the memo.
