Let me start by saying, I would never recommend doing any sort of business with the RentGreat Agency to my worst enemy. Unfortunately, I didn't have a choice as the building I was renting was purchased by a new owner who had Rent Great managing their properties during the end of my lease. As an educated and certified young professional working in forensics, this Company was screaming red flags from the second that they began communicating with me. Their website contained a page with staff names and the pictures of all the staff were pictures of babies. Nearly every email that was sent to me contained grammatical or spelling errors which I found extremely odd considering they claim to be an "accredited business."  I immediately felt like I was doing business with a bunch of uneducated children.  Before even asking me what I would be doing once my lease ended, they sent me multiple emails with move out instructions. I found it weird that this was the first communication I was receiving from them as the new owner. It took a turn for the worst when one day the power and heat in the building's stairwell, that the owners are required to provide per the terms of the lease, were not operating. This was the second time that this had happened in under two months. I emailed the new owners as soon as I noticed the outage as I feared that we would not have hot water nor heat for another 30 degree night. I also left a voicemail and submitted a maintenance request but heard nothing until the following morning. I received an email stating "you should certainly contact your former landlord and the former owners to ask why they have had this shut off even after we Transferred this service to our name. They are the ones who stuff of the power not us." Please notice the lack of professionalism,accountability, spelling errors, and grammar in this email. Given that they were new owners, I was confused why I or the previous owner would be responsible for finding a resolution. So, I called COMED and they informed me that the current management of the new owners had to contact them in order for services to resume. I informed the COMED agent that I was told by the new owners that I or the previous owner had to figure it out. The agent advised me to call the city to report the management agency. After the call, I emailed RentGreat expressing my frustration with not only the situation but the unprofessional manner that they were handling this. They quickly replied with the email attached stating that the situation was all my fault since I had called COMED reporting and outage, that I made the right decision to move out and that I was a nasty person. I was extremely taken back by the response considering this was coming from an "A+ Rated" Business on the BBB which they loved to share. It began to feel more like a threat and personal attack to ensure that I move out as soon as possible. I shared the email with my friends and family, and they were all stunned. Out of extreme frustration, a relative angrily called and confronted the individual that was sending the aggressive emails. Shortly after this call, I got an email informing me that they had received a "threatening and violent call" that they recorded and allegedly reported to the police. RentGreat "demanded that I cooperate with the police investigation regarding this matter." Before I finished reading the email, I received a phone call from a man named Jack at RentGreat who threatened that I cooperate with their police investigation and hung up before I could even speak. Minutes after the call ended, they sent me an email with a picture of my relative stating "They are assigning a detective from the criminal division to assist in this investigation" because their cowardly employee was seeking medical assistance for severe emotional distress signing the email "Sincerely, jk ." I couldn't help but laugh that their employee could hide behind a screen sending such unprofessional, malicious emails, but couldn't take it when it was given right back to her. If this employee is reading this, I recommend getting a real education and learning how to work in the field of business where you provide professional services to customers. I would also recommend growing some thicker skin if you're going to hide behind your screen firing off such vicious and hateful emails to individuals that are doing business with you.   If readers get anything from this review, I hope it is to NEVER do business with RentGreat. If you do, make sure you keep all the receipts of the comical yet unprofessional emails they will send you! It was comforting knowing that several other tenants in my building shared similar horrendous experiences with this company. Thanks RentGreat, you were so far from great! Lived with RentGreat during the pandemic. I tried looking for my review and their Google reviews, but mysteriously they've all disappeared... I see they also changed their business name to literally their URL to probably not be attached to all of the negative reviews. I had many issues living here near the end of my experience. Many with Jack who seems to not like being "threatened" by a young woman. I had a ceiling leak and Aisha basically told me this is normal in every place you live...which is completely ridiculous. After my ceiling leaked through my ceiling fan onto the floor, they came in to fix it after about a few weeks and then got paint on my couch. I told them about this and was a bit frustrated. Whoever was on the phone, I'm assuming Joanna, laughed when I told her and she said "oh, you don't want your couch painted? Why didn't you put a drop cloth down?" Why would that be my responsibility? After I never heard back, I emailed them. I was then told to never contact them again with unsubstantiated claims and came back to me with blurry pictures of my apartment covered in tarp (why would they take these pictures). I keep a camera in my apartment to watch my dog when I'm away. So the camera was on when I was gone, because again I have valuables and expensive music equipment...and I'm a single woman living alone so I like to keep an eye on my place. I saw them painting and sitting on my couch and no tarp was put up. The next day, a tarp was put up and conveniently placed over the camera. Also within this time, it's STILL a global pandemic. Being someone immunocompromised from chemotherapy, I didn't feel comfortable with them coming in and out of my apartment while I was there. This was a huge inconvenience to me and my health. I also had to take off work, which thankfully my manager was OK with but also annoyed because it was multiple times and sort notice. I expressed this to RG and they told me it's not their problem. I can assure you, if there was no pandemic I'd feel differently. I could have easily worked in a coffee shop or gone into the office. In ADDITION to all that, the maintenance team while generally pretty fine, laughed in my face when I told them the issue with the fan since the leak made the fan short and I couldn't even use it. They said "it wasn't a big deal". My brother is an electrician and he said it was an issue. They also didn't wear masks until I asked them to put it over both their nose and mouth. While I was packing up my things when they decided to show up within their 5 hour time frame, they were coughing in the hallway which again was upsetting. They then said "oh it will be a 2 day project and take a few hours both days" which I was not told. Needless to say, I will never be renting with "RentGreat". I'm sure you'll be fine if you were a very healthy adult male, but being a single woman with immune disorder, this isn't the place. Which is fine - there are plenty of other great places to stay within the city. Oh on top of that, I was harassed by another tenant in my building for making her friend feel unsafe when I told her to not prop the door open when she was smoking around the corner...they followed me outside at 10:30pm and cornered me in the courtyard. This is an update since I'm moving out from my apartment soon. I asked Joanna, the woman who answers their phone, what people usually do when they move out as far as parking a moving truck. I asked if we could use the driveway which we used when we moved in and she said no, since people rent the spots. She said she did not know how people usually move out. tldr; pros: great location, great maintenance team cons: no leeway given to tenants, overpriced, very very dusty overall, very average experience with a normal rental agency full experience: I rented an apartment from RentGreat from august 2021 through July 2022. For context, my partner found the apartment online, we were moving from the East coast, it was in the pandemic, me and my partner knew nothing about Chicago. We were given a FaceTime tour by an employee who was very nice but didn't actually know anything about the building or apartment (we were told things like we had central air, we didn't) but nothing misleading in the lease - just the tour. We felt really pressured to sign the lease, being told that this neighborhood was all the rage and the apartment was gonna go that day if we didn't do anything etc so we signed the lease, and honestly, we absolutely loved the place once we got here (and considering when moving out last month that the first person who toured the apartment signed the lease that day the pressure was coming from a place of truth). It was smaller than we thought it would be, but the location (Lincoln park) was great, the street was tree lined and beautiful, and we were all around very happy with how things turned out. The maintenance team is what bumps the review from 3 stars to 4 - they were very very fast to respond to maintenance requests and very helpful when they come around. No complaints with any of the building workers, they were absolutely great, from our clogged sink drain to our leaky ceiling, they were in to fix things immediately and gave us no grief. They are very strict in their policies and give absolutely no leeway to tenants. Since we moved across the country we rented a parking spot out back for the first month because we didn't know what parking was like out here. Once we moved and realized parking was easy to come by, we tried to cancel the parking for the next month. We were directed to the contract we signed for the parking spot that stated we had to notify RentGreat some 60 days in advance if we want to stop renting the spot, so we had to keep paying for the spot an extra month even though we didn't want it (even though we hadnt even lived there for 60 days yet). Same with no leeway on moving in early / moving out late, which was annoying, but in reality I can't fault them for any of this because it's stated policy. Also to note, another reviewer mentioned that the furnace units don't have filters so they shoot dusty dirty air into the units - I wouldn't know the first thing to figure out if that's true or not but I will say, this apartment was truly unbelievably dusty - we could clean every surface and within a day everything was covered in dust again so I absolutely believe this, we did use an air purifier because both me and my partner have allergies and it was a crazy dust filled small space, but we just thought it's because it was an old building and small space. I honestly don't have any major complaints with RentGreat, but I do think the apartment was small and over priced for what it was (some other two bedrooms on the block were being leased for almost two hundred dollars cheaper). We are not renting with them again because we have moved to a part of the city we feel is better suited to us into a bigger and three hundred dollar cheaper place. Overall, I didn't have the wild 1 star review horrible experience, or the incredible 'everyone was helpful and amazing' 5 star experience. They gave me a whole 10 hours (overnight) to have my cosigner fill out the app. Then just leased to someone else in the morning. Shady business, shady people. I've had so many bad experiences with other apartments that it's refreshing to have such a responsive and flexible landlord. RentGreat is an absolutely incredible management company. We live in a beautiful 3 bedroom in Buena Park and have absolutely no complaints about management. When Spaces was giving us a hard time with our application for the apartment, Jack worked with us to come to a completely reasonable agreements hat satisfied us both. We absolutely love living here. When we first moved in everything was in great condition and probably the best cleaning I've ever seen done by a landlord. Usually I find I have to go back and clean before I feel comfortable unpacking but we just settled right in. We did have some issues with odor with the carpeting as the previous tenants had undisclosed cats but RentGreat immediately came and fixed any requests we had the next day. Tom our maintenance guy is wonderful. He's incredibly accommodating and gets things fixed right away. He even takes off his shoes when he comes in to fix things which is awesome because in my last apartment maintenance destroyed my white rug only two days after I moved in with muddy shoes. In the first few days we moved in we were not fully unpacked and were shifting things around while he was in unit making repairs, and he offered me help. If I could give RentGreat more than a 5-star review, I certainly would. I have rented from a lot of landlords around Chicago and have never stayed more than one year. Not the case with Jack and RentGreat. My girlfriend and I have lived in our apartment for 3 years and have been absolutely thrilled with not only the apartment itself, but everyone at RentGreat. When we signed our lease, several renovations were being made to the apartment, so when we first saw it, it was quite a mess due to removed walls and general construction debris. But we were assured that the work would be done professionally and would be ready by the time we moved in. And boy, were they true to their word. All I can say is that the place FAR EXCEEDED our expectations in every way possible. They even went as far as asking our opinion on what updates they should make, which as we were just renting, was absolutely amazing and far beyond anything they needed to do. But those are just the kind of people that manage RentGreat properties. Any request that was made was handled extremely quickly and with the utmost professionalism. I have had a couple different property management companies here in Chicago, and I would say that Jack and his maintenance crew are about the nicest around. They are very very responsive and any question or issue I had was addressed right away. For example, one night when I first moved in, we had a break in to our side gate area. The very next morning (I had left a voicemail with the office line) they were installing new gates and security cameras. I also have to mention how sweet and awesome Andrew and Peter (the maintenance crew) are. They are super hard-working and very thoughtful about everything for their tenants. I trusted them fully. I did have some issues with my younger (fresh out of depaul) neighbors being not only loud, but disrespectful to me and my personal property. I constantly worried about leaving anything in the hallway or receiving packages because they were prone to destroying or taking things that belonged to me. I was hoping Rent Great could evict them considering the numerous offenses they made against me and how unsafe I felt having them around, but in the end I had to just move out to get away from them. If it weren't for the bad neighbors and the fact that they weren't evicted after they proved how disrespectful they were to me and my belongings, I'd probably still be renting from Jack. I could not be happier with the efficiency and quality of service I have experienced with Rengreat. I currently rent a two bedroom apartment in Wicker Park through rentgreat. My roommate and I moved into our apartment about six months ago, and we often talk about how impressed we are with Rentgreat. A few examples: They were flexible with our move in date -we moved in about a week early because our past lease/management company had a strict policy. Rentgreat was accommodating with our early move in date, and they mentioned that the microwave for the apartment had not yet been delivered and it would be installed on the actual move in date, meaning we would not have a microwave for about a week. Rentgreat actually offered to pay for a microwave from the store in the mean time- they were actually going to buy us a microwave just to make our lives more convenient for that short period of time even though we really didn't care about waiting a week. Right off the bat, we were both impressed with the flexible move in and the microwave. Another example: we were trying to set up our cable, and the cable company kept messing up our location/services, etc - rengreat actually called the cable company to help us get our service set up. Every single time I email Rentgreat - I get an email back within a couple of hours. They are SO responsive and accommodating. I am more than happy to talk to anyone who is considering renting through rentgreat to share my experience in more detail. I have lived at two of Jack's buildings since 2012. He has HIGHLY exceeded all of my expectations of an ideal landlord. He is extremely kind, reasonable, and attentive to my needs. He is always easy to get ahold of and resolves all issues without being asked twice. His maintenance staff (Peter and Andrew) are fantastic- extremely prompt and pleasant. Often times, I will text Peter a problem in the morning and it will be fixed by the time I get home from work the same day. They are always great with my dog too and Jack even bought pet friendly salt at my request. He is the first landlord I've met who drops off gifts around the holidays and who is a genuinely cool guy. His units are very spacious, newly renovated, and in great neighborhoods. I absolutely will not rent from anybody else. read more

I lived with rentgreat for two years and would've done a third year if my roommate situation hadn't imploded. We lived in a fully redone unit in Lakeview and it was beautifully done. The construction/repair crew is the best- shout out to Andrew. A couple hiccups after we moved into our fresh rehab (water heater connected incorrectly, washing machine malfunctioning) were corrected very quickly. Emails are always responded to almost immediately. Very nice when you're trying to take a hot shower after a day of moving :) In the end, one of my two roommates got a big, destructive dog that never stopped barking (esp since he would leave it home alone for 10-12 hours at a time). My other roommate and I were ready to get away and found another apartment a month before the end of our lease (we inquired availability within rentgreat, but no 2 BR were available at the time). Our irresponsible dog owner roommate really let it hit the fan after that with the destruction of the apartment and the complaints from neighbors about the nonstop barking. Although I will never speak to my former roommate again, I would love to rent with this company in the future should the opportunity arise. The situation was handled extremely professionally by the landlord and he maintained open communication with us during the issues at the end. All in all, it was a beautiful apartment with a great repair crew and a very responsive and involved landlord. read more

I lived in a Chicago property for 4 years and they were great landlords. For one, because we consistently renewed our Aug 1 lease months early, our rent never went up over 4 years. Whenever we had issues with maintenance requests (leaks, things broken, etc.), they were super prompt and the issue was always resolved within hours at most. They were also pretty proactive with reaching out about things that were going on (construction, turning the water on during the cold weather, etc.) to prevent any issues there. They were also super flexible as I was shuffling through different friends as roommates each year, and that process was really easy and painless. I clogged the kitchen sink, which also backed up the dishwasher. I sent in a request late last night. This has been the first apartment I've rented through RentGreat and overall it has been a great experience. Jack is ALWAYS very responsive to my emails and the few times that we needed maintenance they responded quickly. I never felt worried that the management company would take a long time or wouldn't fix something. When we had an issue with our heat they were over the next day. I accidentally broke my key in the lock because the entryway lock was freezing from the cold and they replaced the lock with a digital lock to prevent this issue from happening in the future. I had an issue with a tenant not picking up her dog's droppings and when I let Rentgreat know they sent out an email to nip it in the bud. My issues are always addressed and tended to. However, I do caution against using the storage in the basement because it is not completely dry down there. I had some damp boxes and a couch cover got discolored. If you are using the storage use plastic bins or don't store down there. read more

I rented a property that rent great managed for one year. Like always I was very timely paying rent and never had any other complaints from management. Early on, my only complaint was when someone broke into my apartment when I was home and rent great did absolutely nothing to further secure the building so it wouldn't happen again. Even after calling me and asking for my suggestions on how to make the building more secure. When it came time to renew my lease I intended to resign with a new set of room mates. Through the process of finding room mates I dealt with Joanna for the most part. Once we signed the new lease the communication was terrible. Certain room mates had to pay deposits that was unclear to them which ultimately led to Joanna and jack cancelling our lease and telling me they showed to another group that signed just about 3 weeks before move out date. The situation forced me to almost be homeless if it wasn't for pure luck of finding a place very quickly. This company is SHADY. They told me that one of my potential room mates "had very bad credit and could not meet the qualifications", which I'm sure is highly illegal. Also slandered me behind my back (and probably gave my personal information out) to the same would be room mates. If you value your privacy and security it would be a bad idea to sign a lease with rent great. read more

I had an excellent, wonderful, kind experience with RentGreat.com. The maintenance staff are wonderful and will do anything for you - they genuinely care. Landlord Jack is the funniest and kindest landlord imaginable. He sent us Christmas gifts every year and was extremely responsive to emails (within 10 minutes usually). I lived in one of Jacks apartments with Rentgreat for a year in wicker park, and he was great! I think I could count on one hand minor things I needed fixed and they were always addressed promptly, and most times the same day. My apartment was clean when I moved in and was beautifully updated with new cabinets, counter tops, and appliances. It was also an amazing location! The other thing that was very convenient was paying rent, they accepted it via Chase quick pay. It was very simple and I didn't have to worry about sending a check. I am a huge fan of Jack and everyone over at Rent Great. I've been a tenant for almost 2 years (in August!) and have had all my expectations met and surpassed. Jack and his staff are incredibly understanding, attentive, and very responsive. You can tell they really care about their buildings and their tenants. We've all had horrible landlord stories, but Rent Great is the furthest from those. My building has a pretty diverse group of tenants (families, couples, students, artists) and everyone is very respectful and the building is fairly quiet. You would never know a family with a young baby lived on top of me. It's pet friendly and tenant friendly and I'll be sad to leave them when my lease ends. I'm only leaving because my friends and I are getting a house in another neighborhood, but if that wasn't the case I'd stay on forever. If you're looking for a place with no drama and really genuinely nice people, Rent Great is where it's at. read more
