This was a country store and market that we visited outside of Nappanee, Indiania in Bremen, Indiania. The store carried housewares, bulk foods, toys, bread, pies, cookies, cakes, and cinnamon rolls. We bought sandwich meat and bread and cheese. We bought a whole pie for $8.00 which was a great price. We made lunch from a store purchase and had a great impromptu picnic! This was a pleasant stop with great homemade treats!

On a recommendation from a friend's father, this was our adventure on a Friday afternoon. It's located in the middle of Amish country and it's absolutely lovely. Fresh homemade items along with housewares, toys, and bulk food items. They are known for their fresh homemade cheeses! If ever in Bremen, IN you must check it out!

Amish owned and a place to visit for cheeses, meats & candies. Home made and delicious. Well worth the drive out to the country.

I would give them fine stars, but they lose one because the last time I was in there the man I presume to be the owner yelled at one of the sweet Mennonite young ladies who work there. I was standing well behind the counter looking at the menu. He yells at her thinking she's slacking and holding me up. I was simply taking my time choosing my lunch. Besides, he shouldn't be screaming at his help for any reason. They are sweet Mennonite Amish, for the most part, and are always a delight to talk to. Shame on him for treating them in that way. If I ever see him yell at them again, he surely will lose a customer.

This Amish store offers a variety of produce, cheese, bulk food items, Bob's Red Mill flours and grains, kombucha, frozen meats and more. We picked up some essentials along with a locally made jun kombucha and almond butter. Definitely adding this to our route for all future journeys to Michigan. They also sell a variety of carpentry items like benches, swings and sheds. There is a nice eating area off to the side for made to order lunch sandwiches and ice cream treats.

The north entry to Barney's is where you'll find most of the parking. It looks like a typical old grocery store, but inside you'll find many varieties of deliciousness. For Therese H., there's a pretty good gluten-free selection. And for most vacationers, you'll enjoy the fact that the south portion of the store is where you'll find the alcohol, with a fine selection of beer, wine, and liquor. You also can enter this part by the south entry off the sidewalk. By early July, Covid-19 didn't seem to be slowing down operations too much during our visit. Staff wore masks. They sell milled flour and primary ingredients for making your own stuff. I found it interesting how many different types of flour, spices, and primary ingredients like borax used for cleaning laundry and disinfecting were available for purchase by the pound. I was able to buy homemade black licorice for $3. Homemade canned strawberry rhubarb butter to spread on toast for $4-5. They also have a huge discount section and the kids loved stretching their $5 budget and got a bunch of Halloween and Christmas specific candy cheaply for no other reason than it being the wrong holiday. My husband bought some Amish sourdough bread, but was disappointed with the taste. Upon looking at the label I noted there were a lot of ingredients. Just something to note. Not all Amish foods are created equal and not all items are organic or without preservatives. Read your labels, make educated choices and admire a store of thrifty, honest, and hardworking folks.
