I have been a customer with Republic Services for nearly 10 years. At first they picked up in our area 2 times a week. Then when they dropped to 1 time a week they said they would drop the cost accordingly. This did not happen. There competitor in the area still picks up 2 times a week and is less expensive. Recently the straw that broke my back was that Republic missed 2 pickups all together. Today the first pickup after Christmas, they decided to only empty 2 of the three cans we had at the curb. I called and canceled service. To rub a little salt in the wound, when I canceled, they informed me there would be a $25 pickup fee for the cans. I would discourage anyone from using this service. Try there competitor, this company has gone down the tubes as far as customer service goes. read more

Is there a negative 5 star rating? If so, that still wouldn't be enough. This company is pathetic. They are not proactive when they miss service and God forbid they even offer a credit if they do. I plan on attending the next Fairfax Board of Supervisors meeting to complain and to see if we can get another refuse company. Update they still stink. This company is truly awful in many different ways. My building in DC used to use Tenleytown Trash, and they would do a good job. But then TT was acquired by Republic, and the service went off a cliff. They charge a small fortune for bulk pickups including things as simple and moderately sized as a sofa chair. You can literally go rent a large SUV or moving truck for way, way less money. They also frequently skipped our building, resulting in garbage piling up, which is disgusting and attracts rodents and can result in the city government fining us. When you call, they lie to you and say a truck will get it the next day. You then have to waste your time calling them again and again until they eventually pick up the garbage that you're paying them to pick up. They also mix recycling and garbage, which seems to be illegal since the contract is for separate pickups. At this point, I would gladly pay a different company twice as much if it meant the service was better. read more

This company didn't pickup my yard waste for several weeks. I called several times and contacted through online but there is no response.

About as bad as it gets. Missed pick-ups, hollow promises about replacement pick-ups, trash cans left in the road and tire tracks on my lawn. Now they cut the trash pick-ups in 1/2 and only pass along a 6% savings. Sounds like a genius plan to raise my rate by 30%. Looking for a new service - consider American Disposal Services. Not a lot better but at least they appreciate you as a customer. read more

Absolutely the worst. After reducing my trash pick up from twice a week to one they raised my rate essentially doubling my rate for half the service. Every quarter they keep raising the rate. Their yard waste pickup is non existent. After repeated calls and assurances no one ever comes to pick up the yard waste. Awful company with awful service. read more

Republic has missed 2 Recycling Pick Ups and 1 Trash Pick. Also missed 4 scheduled "escalated" pick ups. We can speak only to operators located in another state. They are no help at all although very friendly. We will be switching companies to be sure. read more

I wrote a "one-star" review on Republic Services about five months ago because of repeated missed pickups and lack of follow-up. Since then, there have been far fewer missed pickups in my neighborhood. On the rare occasions when a pickup is missed, a truck comes by early the next day. Zero customer service for long term customer (15 yrs). Trash service failed to pick up trash on Thursday which is the normal pickup day. I called Republic services Thursdays evening to reschedule a pickup of trash for Friday. Again the trash was not picked up Friday. I called Republic again and scheduled for Monday pickup. It is now 1:20 pm on Monday and we still have not had the trash picked up. After all these years of paying for service, Republic seems to have forgotten why they are in business. read more

This company is AWFUL!!!! We live in the Burke Conservancy, so we are stuck with them, but if you have a choice.. RUN!!! They don't take pride in their job at ALL, they will spill trash, and not clean it up, and will leave a big mess.. when then come at 6:00am in a townhouse community, they are screaming, yelling and cursing at each other, have no courtesy for the families that live here.. they even refuse to take trash.. read more

Once again republic services trash company just cannot do a decent job when they come on our property. They continuously drop trash everywhere, they leave the trash bins in the parking lot because they are just too lazy to put them away, the trucks leak very fowl fluid everywhere and if there is paint inside the trucks, guess what, you're going have paint all over your property. I wish I could leave a -1 or -2 for a rating because that best reflects their service. Also, they do not call if a missed service is going to occur and they will lie to you about another truck coming when you call about missed service. Update- Republic asked our nonprofit to send a certified letter stating that we do not intend to renew our contract. We sent this letter in mid-July. Little to my surprise, nobody from Republic has contacted us about receiving the letter and our new account representative has not returned any of my phone calls. It has been three weeks since the letter was received by Republic, as confirmed by USPS. Tip for those looking to leave Republic: be sure to start the cancellation process early so the contract doesn't automatically renew on you. read more

I am giving one star because their customer service is great and polite but their pick up management is awful. Worst service we have ever experienced with trash collection. Our yard waste hasn't been picked up for four weeks now, we called them ten times to report the missing pick ups and nothing has been done. We were supposed to get a refund and a phone call from their supervisor but haven't received anything from their part, including the pick up of the yard waste that had promised many times. We pay for the full service and all we want is to get the full service, whoever is charge is clearly not doing their job. After nine weeks of missed yard waste pick up, Republic finally came to pick up the 10 bags of yard waste that had been sitting at the curb. As of today, for three weeks Republic hasn't picked up our yard waste, agaI have been calling every week to report the missed pick up and obviously nothing has been done. UNACCEPTABLE! IT HAPPENED AGAIN, our yard waste is still sitting on our curb after WEEKS and MANY CALLS, ONLY PROMISES AND NO ACTUAL PICK UP. Poor management, customer service and execution. Only picked up our trash once every other week. Would show up on days they weren't scheduled. They wouldn't adjust bills for lack of service. Tried to bill us for picking up their containers after we terminated them for lack of service. Multiple calls to customer service to correct their billing were ineffective. read more

When I called to schedule a two couch bulk pickup, I asked very clearly if the service would be free, and their customer support said yes. It turns out they thought it was free because they had billed it to our HOA (which they shouldn't) without even telling me. Now they tried to go after us for a $350 out of the blue, the amount I was never told I would be responsible for, or agreed to, until after the fact. They could have let me know on the day they came to pick it up, but didn't. I have a written quote from our lawn guy to come pick them up for only $100. It's flat out fraudulent and bullied. I cancelled this domestic trash service. They changed service to a one day pick up from two with minimal difference in the cost. More importantly, they had numerous missed pick ups and/or came a day late. We had yard trash sit for 4 weeks without pickups. Worse still, their customer service staff at the Fairfax VA location, while polite, make promises that they do not keep. Since cancellation, I have had to work hard to get a refund and they took $25 from that just to pick up THEIR cans!! 2 neighbors are about to cancel with them for the same reasons. I've been with Republic Services for over 2 years and each quarter their prices go up. They don't explain why they just bill you. I had to reach out to ask and they said increased costs. When they miss a pickup they don't make it up or credit you. I'm noticing that other trash companies are getting worse reviews so maybe this is just normal? How Absolutely Apropos A few weeks ago, I ended my nearly five-year, foolishly too long, business relationship with Republic Services. I should have ended it far sooner. Ironically, they were always quite timely when it came to making sure that they picked up their payment from me. They were never late. Too bad they didn't take their responsibility to pick up my trash anywhere near as serious. Last month, I could take no more. I gleefully cancelled the service a few weeks ago, mid-October, 2019. A very cathartic moment. The very nice customer service agent said that they would pick up the empty cans on November 5th. So I am returning home, from work, on the 5th of November and what do I see? Their empty cans sitting there, at the curb, forlorn and forgotten. "How absolutely apropos.", I thought. They can't even be trusted to be here on the day THEY committed to picking their own stuff up. What a shame. Save yourself the grief. Pick someone--ANYONE--else. read more

I've had this service for about five years and about every couple months they don't bother to pick up my trash. Wasn't a such a problem when they did two pick ups a week, but they changed their service to one pick up a week so now it's a big issue. When I call for a missed pick up every customer service rep I've talked to has been delightful. They report the missed pick up, insist someone will come by the next day for the trash, and sometimes "escalate" my report and tell me a supervisor will call me, but no one shows to pick up the trash and a supervisor has never bothered to call. I call everyday and we repeat the charade until they come at the next regularly scheduled pickup to get the trash. Needless to say I am in the process of switching to another trash collection service and recommend against using Republic Services. read more

I moved so I called to cancel my service. A month later, I get a bill saying that I owe them $33. I called to find out what happened and they say that it's a container pick-up fee. I told them that I wasn't told about any such fee when I was closing my account and that I didn't see anything about such a charge in anything that I signed. They just stammered and said that it's in their website, etc. I will be fighting this charge. Do not do business with them if you can help it. They are duplicitous and try to charge you for things that you didn't agree to and try to strong arm you into paying them by trying to ruin your credit if you don't. read more

I'm having the same experience as so many others leaving reviews. I have been a customer for 3 weeks. In that time, I've had my recycling picked up once, but never trash. I've called three times and submitted one online ticket. My cans are obviously full, and I cannot put out more bags because I'm sure the raccoons and foxes will tear them apart. To make matters worse, I was billed up front (and I paid) for service September - December. A few more days and I will have to cancel. Hopefully I can get my money back. read more

Please don't ignore their 1 1/2 star rating as there is good reason for it. They'd get no stars from me if that was possible, because they did nothing. Republic has a lot work to do! It's Tuesday evening and we still have trash filled to the top of our bin (for context our pick up is Friday). This, coupled with the the many times that the trash pick-up being missed by anywhere from 1 day to a week, is a concern. We have not received good value for the services and believe that refunds should be issued in situations like these, as in some months our services should have been free. A policy that states a sliding scale for services rendered is not only fair, but necessary. read more

We contacted republic service last Monday 10/26/2020 to schedule a pick up, they scheduled it for Thursday, October 29th. no body showed up. We called the same day,said they will escalate this and schedule it for Friday which was the next day, again no one showed up. The weekend passed , we called early Monday 11/2/2020 , same story , same runaround still no one showed up on Monday. Today is Tuesday, 11/3/2020 and we are still waiting for someone to show up and a call back from a manager, which the person on the phone did not want to provide us with the manager's number but they said he will call you back. I really tried to give this company the benefit of the doubt. But when you have a missed pickup with them, IT IS A NIGHTMARE! Don't believe them when they tell you on the phone they will be out in 2 days, it doesn't happen. I have spent a minumum of 45 minutes on the phone everytime I call. STAY AWAY!!! This company is all about the fees. I was charged $100 just to start with them!! They also charge "pick up" fees when service is cancelled-how about $37 a can!!! They are the worst. Try calling in-customer service is awful-one hand doesn't know what the other is doing. I was told I would be sent a final bill, which I did receive and paid right away....well guess what? I just got another bill in the mail from these guys....STAY AWAY...they are all about the money!!!!!!! I'm giving them a generous 2 star review. First, the good is that their phone customer service line is probably the best I've dealt with. They answer the phone quickly, are willing to answer your questions and seem to have good information. If they transfer you, it works and as a plus the workers seem to be in the US. That's where the good ends. Issue 1: Service Interruptions. This is minor, but they do seem to cancel pickups quite a bit, usually for weather but sometimes for unknown reasons as well. They do notify you by phone but still, if they don't pick up, we should get a refund for that month. There are also times when they say the pickup is cancelled, and then the truck comes anyway. So if you don't leave the can out you miss it. Issue 2: Rate hikes. It's not that they raised the rate by $10 a month, it's that they did not clearly tell customers it was happening. The email you receive is just a cost, no details. To know the rate changed you have to be logging into the portal regularly. Again, I get that rates change, but I have to say it's pretty sleazy to not tell your customers it's coming. Issue 3: Fuel charge. I understand why they charge customers for this (although to me it should be built into your rate, not an additional charge) but the real issue is that they bill quarterly, but fuel charge changes monthly so again you have no way of knowing your rate until AFTER it's charged. Lastly, and this one I just don't understand...whether you have 1 pickup a week or 2...it's the same price. So there's no way to save any money on your bill. Why anyone would choose the 1 pickup plan is beyond me. Most of the sanitation companies are fleecing their customers and Republic Services seems to be falling into line with that. I'll be spending the next month finding someone cheaper. If the same overcharges and scheming are gonna happen anyway, you might as well switch service and at least pay less. read more
