Out of 5 weeks, they've missed pick up 8 times. Their calendar says no recycling for 3 weeks, their outgoing message says they'll arrive a day after Christmas and New Years. I've only been a customer for two weeks, but I'm ready to find a new company. It took a full day just to establish service, with repeated phone calls and emails. They and ttried to lock me into a three year contract saying it was a great deal. Turns out it's cheaper NOT to sign the contract and I'm still free to switch to another company without penalty. And that's a good thing because the service is terrible. If you can even call it that. They messed up something and we got the trash and recycle bins a week late. They've missed our yard waste and recycling pickups. Supposedly we'll get trash pickup today, but ask me if I'm holding my breath... Basically, we've been "customers" for two weeks but have yet to receive any services. They won't credit our account, but they'll come back next week for a pickup. Three weeks after we've moved into this house. UPDATE: While I appreciate the offer from the business to "look into my account," I've spoken to reps and supervisors at least four times now. In one month, we've had exactly one scheduled recycling pickup, and twice after missing (mandatory for our area) recycling, they just dumped our recycling in with the trash. Great company with great, responsive customer service. I had an issue with our trash can disappearing, but after I contacted Republic, they resolved the issue immediately by agreeing to reimburse us for the cost of a new can. Just what you'd expect from a great company!!! read more

Bobby from Fairfax customer service is not knowledgeable, she was laughing and being rude and disrespectful. She can't even explain a new policy that does not even apply to us. They are taking advantage of their customers. She read to me a response from Fairfax county that has nothing to do with us and that she could not explain. Get some knowledgeable employees that respect their customers.Their lack of customer service, integrity and overall service is a very good reason to NOT USE this company. I really can't come up with much more displeasure than what has been noted in previous reviews. Many parallel stories identifying the discontent for the deplorable service, lack of committment to the contract, missed pick-ups, dropped trash, and a passive aggressive management style. It appears the only way management calls to mitigate the lack of service is after reading these terrible situations. But comical how they want to resolve off line after social statements have been made exposing Republics lack of response to resolve. Three times either we have communicated to announce a missed pick-up, driving over leaf bags tearing them apart, and dropping my neighbors tree pines on the street next to my property. Three times no one responded. Not sure why they even have a complaint component on their website. I wouldn't be writing this terrible review, if they had responded and attempted to correct. Nothing new here. Horrible service. Last Wednesday got an automated call that they would not pick up and said they would Saturday. Surprise surprise no pick up. Today also a Wednesday same message and no pick up. I call and complain and get my little $3.88 refunds. I made a BBB complaint. It is out of control. Horrible services, prices keep going up. If there was a better option we would leave but I guess that is how they keep up such bad service. read more

Absolutely horrendous. As unreliable as the weather these days. In the past months they've missed more pickups than they've made. I consider it a miracle nowadays when I see an actual empty trash bin. Called them and filed complaints, but seems like they know where to put those--in the trash! I have been a loyal customer since 1985. I realized I was being double billed for 4 quarters while enrolled in autopay. When I called they said I was being billed at my old rate of $90. And the new rate I requested of $72.50. It took almost a year for them to stop the double billing at two different rates in one bill. I was told my overpayment was $363 which I agreed to after doing the math. Now "Division said my overpayment was only $272.00?? And they have refunded my money. When I do the math I figure my overpayment is now $96.00 which they still owe me. Then comes the agreed upon rate. I was told it should be $72.50 for one to two years, then told everyone in my area (Burke) should be $73.50. And most recently told its being increased to $78.50. Worst service AND customer service EVER. I did not have recycling picked up for three weeks and had to FIGHT to get a refund for services not rendered. They assured me three times that my recycling would be picked up by 5PM each time I called. Nothing happened. Had to load my car and go to county recycling center myself. Also, was told a manager would call. Again, nothing. This is not the first time and weather was NOT an issue. Thinking law suit against Republic services but would like to make it a class action for all those who paid and never received service. I know their are many customers in that class! read more

I switched to this company one month ago. Since service started they have missed 3 pick ups. I call and complain and am told to leave the can on the curb and they will come the next day. They NEVER come the next day. The customer service people have been very nice but I am still paying for something not happening. Next time it happens I will be cancelling the service (or lack there of) and finding someone else. read more

I have tried and tried to be happy with Republic Services since it is who 90% of my neighborhood uses but I can't do it any longer. The following are just a few of the reasons I would take your business elsewhere: Missed pickups Collecting recycling and trash in the same truck Calling 2-3 times a month to tell me there is some sort of delay (and most of the time the call doesn't even apply to me) Drivers speeding through the neighborhood Inconsistent pickup times Poor billing procedures Steadily increasing rates Rough treatment of cans Claim we get 2 pickups per week but have never come but once Say they pick up yard waste but in actuality, they just throw it in the regular garbage truck (often with your recycling) Now that I have finally canceled (3 weeks ago) there shouldn't be a balance yet they are calling and emailing me saying my bill is past due. I call and they tell me one thing and I email and they tell me something else. "It will reconcile on the 14th" "You have to wait 30 days for your zero balance to appear" or my personal favorite "Just ignore it" meanwhile they are haraasing you about a late bill And let's not forget that they charge $34 to pick up your cans when you close your account (or you can drop them off which is not convenient for anyone) and they charge you when they give them to you. They even charged me for a replacement after one of their employees broke ours. I am not sure I have ever dealt with a more unprofessional company. read more

they picked up our trash backs and took them away by accident (wrong house). I immediately notified them and they indicated we needed to take a week until they delivered. really? their escalation team is a joke. they will call you back with updates but dom't do any such thing. this is just a new low,for Republic. Company of empty promises and drivers that are beyond rude. They missed a pickup on the week of the 4th of July one day delay they were supposed to come on Saturday but because of the holiday on Sunday THEY NEVER CAME to pick up the trash it overflowed on Monday, and one came ONLY for the bins we asked the Driver and the driver said NOT MY PROBLEM I DON'T GET OUT OF MY TRUCK. We called the Manager David said he would get a team out some time later we saw one come in and as we followed the truck, he looked at the trash pile on the ground and left the area. Again, we called it was close to closing time and after a while they said we put it on TOP PRIORITY and take care of it on the same day we waited until 6 PM and THEY NEVER CAME the trash was still on the ground the next day. WE HAD TO CLEAN UP THEIR MESS! all the company did was give us empty promises it was supposed to be on the 7/9/22 but because of holiday it went to 7/10/22 and on 9/11/22 the calls took place the Manager David could not get the job done. not even the next in line can get the Job done. read more

I have decided to cancel their services and find someone else. I'm the HOA President and they have refused to take one of my cans after promising that they would pick it. Each time I called about it, they refused to let me speak to a supervisor. They said that they will pick it by such and such date but fail to do so each time. Now, I have extra garbage piling up in front of my house. One time, even when I paid them $80 to do a bulk pick up, they failed to show and I had to chase after them. I don't get paid to keep calling them to make them do their job. I'm going to call someone else to do it. Avoid this company! read more

They have been absolutely awful lately. Signed up with them 2 years ago at our new house in Springfield, and it was going well for a while. Was paying roughly 88, and now its up to 123 a quarter. I don't understand how you raise rates while lower service. In the last month, they missed 5 pickups, including last weeks garbage which was right as the heat wave started. I can smell my trash can from the street. I plan to send them a bill for powerwashing the can, as it still smells like a zombies a-hole. read more

They miss pickups and then lie saying they will be by to pick it up that day. Ive called every single day this week and get told the same thing. Im not exaggerating. Call them and ask to look up my account. Its happened twice in the last 3 months. It took a full week before someone came by. Whatever system they have in place is not working. Absolutely terrible company. 9 times out of 10 they don't pick up on the scheduled date. They don't let their customers know when they aren't going to pickup. Disappointed! I've utilized this service for approximately 11+years and I am the fool. Received a letter in the mail early December stating that after an evaluation of "your" area it is no longer beneficial for Republic Services to serve the area. Probably cause bigger contract equals drop whomever, besides my gripe. Also the "contract" they are cancelling will not be paid on for approximately 2 months after their cutoff service date! Prior to this the service was overall consistent however that completely changed after the notice. Normal pickup is Tue/Fri. My prior 11 years the pickup was always pushed to the next day if your pickup landed on a holiday. Xmas and New Year pickups never happened. I called both weeks for a total of 4 times and was promised a "missed trash" pickup. NOBODY SHOWED!! meanwhile I have overflowing cans with bags on the curb. When they finally do show they get the cans only and leave the loose bags on the curb. Long and short this started basically Dec 26 and I still have an incomplete pickup to this date 13 days later. I call in and complain every week and it's a constant excuse, misinformation and phony promise to solve the problem with no action. Stopping service has been a nickle-and-diming experience that never ends. I stopped services asked for bins to be picked up but still got charged for bins not returned. I saw them pick up a bin and the new owners are using their services and kept 1 bin. Absolutely nuts as I live 1000 miles away now. I'm a tenant new to the area. The landlord uses Republic Services for refuse and recycling. A few weeks ago they stopped picking up our trash - it turned out they converted over to using only their own bins instead of personal bins, without notifying us. After we contacted them, they said they'd deliver a new bin and pick up the trash bags that had been accumulating in a bulk pickup. That was TWO WEEKS, and SEVERAL HOURS on the phone ago. They have made and broken multiple appointments for the bulk pickup. I have called and spoken with multiple associates, gotten "escalation numbers" and three separate "case numbers". At the end of every call I have been PROMISED a bulk pickup the following day. So far that promise has been broken without a stated reason. The associates are ill-equipped to field even the most basic questions. They could not tell me why the pickups were unsuccessful, but they were great at telling me they'd schedule one for the following day (which, as mentioned before, has yet to occur.) One of the most disturbing aspects of their customer experience is they cannot even get supervisors on the phone. I literally had the last agent tell me that I'd have better luck calling the extension directly since "supervisors were more likely to pick up a call from a customer than an agent". What sort of buffoonery is that? Supervisors are escalation services, anyone calling them is, by definition, an unsatisfied customer. It goes without saying that I was transferred and on hold for a full hour before giving up. Go with someone else. ANYONE else. These people are disrespectful of people's time and money. What a terrible company. I called to set up trash and recycling to be picked up once a month for $78 which was a better rate than the trash company I was currently with. I was assured on the phone several times that that would be the total cost. I set up a time for drop off of the cans and ended up having to change it to about a month later. I called about a week ahead letting them know I needed it changed. They still delivered the cans for the original date. I called to make sure I would not be billed, they assured me that I shouldn't be charged, but if I was that they should credit it back to me. I then get my bill and was charged for that month I did not use them. Then a surprise on the bill of $51 for a fuel and environmental fee which was never mentioned when I originally called and was assured that $78 was the total quarterly cost. When I called to get my bill adjusted I found out that the fuel and environmental fee happens every quarter and is a percentage of each bill making my total for each quarter $115 not the $78 I was assured. With that much increase it is not worth it for me to switch companies, it's cheaper with where I started in the first place, Bates Trucking. I decided to cancel and still ended up having to pay $11 because they delivered the cans to my house, which I had called and asked them specifically not to do for a month. So I had to pay for their mistake. I'm very disappointed in the work ethic of this company and for lying to me, then punishing me for their mistake. The customer service always receives an "unusual" number of calls. Despite the promises of Republic Service last week, we are still dealing with more and more trash outside bc they didn't come. They do not have a human being that ever answers the phone. They literally have ZERO customer service agents to answer your call. That or they only have one who handles a thousand calls a day which is means she can only help a fraction of the calls that are pouring into a trash company and that's just plain bad management. After selecting several options to get you to the precisely right customer service agent. They just let you sit in eternal hold listening to the same recording over and over again. "The next service agent will be with you shortly". No they won't because I find it very hard to believe they have ANY customer service reps. There's absolutely no way I could be on hold for 40 minutes and never get a someone to answer the phone. I called at 3:45 on a Monday. And if their office is closed the recording should tell you that rather than lead you to believe "someone will be right with you", because that's that's a lie. UPDATE 2 (9/18/2019): Back to one star. Trash went out on Tuesday, and was still sitting on Wednesday, baking and stinking in the summer heat. On Wednesday, they left a long message stating that due to "operation issues", they'd be skipping Friday's pickup too, and that they'd take care of it on Saturday. Do your friends and neighbors a favor, and get service elsewhere. UPDATE: I've moved my rating up 3 stars. We've had consistently good service since Republic contacted me about the last review. In time, my rating could improve further. ORIGINAL: We had several good years of service, but recently, we've been getting increasingly more "robo-calls" to tell us that our trash may or may not be picked up, and if it isn't, they'll get to us tomorrow. Some time ago, that was an unusual occurrence, but I've gotten four such calls in the last two weeks. The notifications are bothersome, and they entirely ignore the fact that I've left a large bin of garbage or recycling by the curb, and I have to hope the weather doesn't empty the can before Republic does. I tried calling them... they basically told me that they couldn't tell me anything, and there wasn't any interest in logging a complaint. I think it's probably time to make a switch. read more

Republic missed my Friday pickup. I called Republic and customer service said it would be picked up the next day, which is today, Saturday. Republic did not pick up my trash today, Sat. Republic hasn't picked up my trash for over a week now. Calling customer service is not helpful at all. My trash pickup doesn't matter to customer service as I never got a return call and I requested it twice. Don't use Republic trash services, they gladly take your money but they "don't " provide you the service you paid for! read more

They won't pick up my bulk-item (a refrigerator). It's been three weeks, and I've paid the $150 pick-up fee and contacted them three times. However, they're great with weekly trash pick-ups. Website states they are 99% reliable, but I don't think that includes bulk-items. (May have to request a refund to buy a chain saw to cut the fridge into smaller pieces so it'll fit inside the trash bin.) read more

This is the most inefficient small business I have ever dealt with. Lots of interruptions, and missing the pick up of my trash; the last missed pick up was last week, I called them 5 times, over the past 6 days, and every time I receive the same message " you are scheduled for pick up tomorrow morning", "I will escalate your request to a manager"; "I will file a complaint and someone will call on the number you are calling from". And I AM STILL WAITING. I am not sure if the customer service agents are trained to deceive customers or the company was lucky enough to hire them? In both cases, I am trying to find another company and take my business somewhere else. BTW, this was not the first time I was given the run around; this has been a pattern! Just read Candice's review - my experience is EXACTLY the same. In the months before the pandemic my service was spotty - even after a reduction from two days a week to one (AT THE SAME FEE). Now it's just a complete disaster. I have about five bags of trash piled up in my garage because I have nowhere to put them and don't want animals to get into them. My trash has not been picked up in nearly 4 weeks! But for some reason the recycling is picked up on schedule. I have called relentlessly - each time with grace and patience because of the pandemic. Please don't even bother. Two missed pickups, then I took the time to call in and notify them, and they missed both re-scheduled pickups! I called and explained I am a 10-year customer, pay through auto-renewal, and that I'd like a rebate based on what amounted to 4 missed pickups and my wasted time, which included having to hold garbage in my garage as it was a week between pickups and we have a baby in the house. They offered me $17, I asked for a little more and they said no. I canceled my account just as all my neighbors have. So I called well in advance (30days in advance) of notifying these people that I am leaving the country on orders with the military. The customer service people say I am square with them as I paid my final bill (their words). Here I am, not a resident of my previous address since October last year and they still forward me a bill while stationed overseas for the last several months. What kind of company does that? I did my due diligence and still they send me a bill for an address I haven't lived at for seven months! Unacceptable! Horrible, we started service on July 19th and never had trash picked up. Called at six times and was told trash would be picked up by the end of the day. No one ever showed up. Cancelled service on 8/2 never had trash picked up. But they knew haw to find the house when it was time to send the bill. Take my advice find another trash company. Republic is worthless!! read more
