    Getting ready for Valentines

When you "find" a place such as Resale Therapy, you want to tell everyone. I had an appt at Oasis Spa next door and had time to kill so I stopped into Resale Therapy and wow, what a find. This store has it all, gently used clothing of all kinds and if you are a purse person, she has very high end purses there. Yes men, women love their purses! With these hard economic times we are all going through, this is the perfect place to go and buy yourself some clothing, accessories, purses, etc. Plus she gave me a good tip on where to get coffee in that area, who doesn't love a tip on where to get good coffee!!

Resale Therapy is a fantastic find just a short drive from Boston. As the name implies, this is a resale shop. Specifically it is a consignment shop. The tags are labeled in such a way that when an item is new in the store, it is at a higher offer price. There are then several other dates and prices on the tags. Once you've reached the next date on the tag, the price is lowered. The selection of clothes is all in great condition (consignment, not thrift!) and the real expertise here seems to be in gowns. The entire back half of the store is dedicated to a fantastic selection of dresses, from casual to business appropriate, to cocktail, to full out formal wear. The prices aren't super cheap, but you can tell most of these dresses have only been worn once. Another highlight is the amazing selection of vintage purses and jewelry. There are GORGEOUS beaded handbags here that still contain calling cards from the original owners! The prices are surprisingly affordable for such finds (some bags just $30-40). The vintage jewelry from the 40s/ 50s/ 60s was also incredible. There is a good selection of earrings, bracelets, and necklaces, and all are in perfect condition. I scored absolutely beautiful chandelier earrings from the 40s for just $30. The staff here is absolutely wonderful and knows their merchandise well. If you are looking for something particular, strike up a conversation, and the odds are you'll be able to find what you're looking for.

    My nice find!

In addition to interesting items from the 19th century there is a vast array of mid-century modern furniture and accessories. You don't have to have a house or office entirely devoted to Mad Men sensibilities to appreciate this modernist aesthetic. The space is such that things have enough room to be clearly seen and admired. This is not like some antique stores which can be dark, and overly filled with items placed too closely together to get a proper perspective. The furniture, lamps, glassware, dishes, and art work are all spread out in a double-wide space with plenty of room and high ceilings making it easy to walk around and admire everything while imagining this or that in your own home. Peter, the owner, and his adorable assistant, the perky dachsund, make browsing a pleasure. Questions are cheerfully answered and conversation about art, decor and furniture flows. Right now I have my eye on a beautiful drafting table that can change positions allowing it be used as a desk. I just fell in love with it this weekend and will have to go back tomorrow for another look. Some of the prices are more on the high side than I think they need to be but I get the sense that the owner is ready to do business with the serious shopper. This store is lovely, the owner charming and many of the pieces are fabulous. I'm glad this place has been able to expand while still remaining conveniently in my neck of the woods. It's definitely worth stopping by but leave that drafting table for me.

Seller Beware! It's just super frustrating to be a consignor here. One of your items sold? Great,…read morebut oh no, we're holding back your $12. Just because. You saw funds drop into your consignor account after selling something? Great . . oh, but you might see the very same item on their in-house online selling account, and at a higher price than your item was "sold" for. No point in asking what's going on, because there are no answers, just deflection, deflection. When you finally give up on consigning, as I did, and ask very politely for the funds from your last sale, expect to receive nothing. Because "you don't have enough in your account so you'll have to ask the owner". Ask the owner for the funds from my own consigned items, but "it's unlikely he'll make an exception"? It's an interesting business model, I grant you that! For me, another hard lesson learned! If you're shopping for bargains, it will only benefit you. If you want to turn over a few of your nice things- nope!

I was taken to the back to speak with the manager about it, and right away got looked at up and down and laughed in my face. i felt completely disrespected and a little embarrassed. i told them it's no problem, and continued to look around the store. These 2 managers continued to make jokes, laugh, and mimic/mock me. That's when i walked out the store furious. Getting in my car i checked the reviews and felt the need to add one in. Also got a nice video for you guys to see who they are. Specifically this one women.
