I'm going to give this 4 stars, mostly because service is superior here and I'm rounding up (at least in my opinion). But, there are some things that are not 4 stars: That being said - when I am in Bakersfield for work, this is my first choice even if it is aging a big and could use a refresh. The good: Service is top notch (management, housekeeping, maintenance, food prep). I think the food quality for breakfast is average to above average (I love that they still have waffles), and I also love that they do lite bites Tues and Wed (and coffee is usually ready by the time I'm through working out at 5:30ish). I find the beds are still very comfortable with adequate soft to firm pillows. The one BR bathrooms are great in terms of counter space with a separate toilet and bath/shower combo. The 1BR kitchens are perfectly adequate with full size fridge and a hot plate. in most of the rooms I have been in there is one skillet, and at least one sauce pan, a couple of bowls, I've had some with a colander, others with a measuring cup. There is also an array of utensils, dinnerware and drink ware. They also have a coffee maker in the room, with dish washing liquid (along with powder for the automatic dishwasher) and a scrubber. The 2 BR bathrooms have less counter space and share the same space as the bath/shower and toilet, but you do get 2 full baths. Kitchen is very similar to 1BR, but they have a full stove. The bad: The rooms themselves are a little dated, carpet is a little thin and I would love to see a refresh of the kitchen pans (many of them are also getting very warn). But all in all the bad for this isn't really that bad. The ugly: If you can call it truly an ugly since I do get by...but; you really need to update the "nightstands". I love the lights that you have on them, but the plugs themselves are loose. I almost always have to plug at least one thing into the wall rather than there, and you don't have any USBs. The light on the desk is really not that bright either and could use a little update. I tend to use the desk a lot, so for me it is an important feature. I can't really comment on the pool or hot tub as I have not used them. Again - this is still my first choice when I'm visiting (and I've probably stayed at least 5 or 6 times). But I would love to see them just do a refresh. read more

Check in was a breeze because I used the Marriott app. The front desk gal was very friendly, there is a pool and gym, breakfast all the basic things. These rooms are set up like town homes, kinda cool. The parking lot was fenced . I did not ask if there was security. Please do not leave any valuable things in your car in plain view , that could ruin your trip . The surrounding area was pretty quite to be honest, I went to work at 4:30 in the morning and it was surprising just how many people were walking around outside of the hotel fenced area at that time of the morning. My room could have used an update , for 250 per night I really expected a little nicer room . The carpet could use a cleaning , at least get the stains out! I'm glad I was only there for a week, the bed was uncomfortable, both beds were uncomfortable. The toilet seat was broken, two of the light switches did not work. If you can find a room at a newer hotel , that's what I would do . If you do stay here try to avoid room 511, happy travels . read more

I stayed at the Residence Inn Bakersfield in one of their two-bedroom rooms. It has a kitchen and a living room between the bedrooms. Both bedrooms have a separate bathroom in each room. This was my first time staying at the Residence Inn, but I did enjoy it. It was quite roomy and also quiet. We stayed on the second floor. The kitchen was quite clean, but the air conditioner was not that cold. This place would be great for families that have children. There is a pool, a basketball court, and breakfast in the morning in the lobby area. read more

Okay place. It is older, but was remodeled at some point. They have 2 bedroom/2 bathroom suites for families. They also offer a very nice breakfast buffet. Unfortunately the evening clerk who checked us in was rude and our room smelled like mildew. Having said that it was clean and in a safe neighborhood. I doubt we will stay here again, but if you are traveling with a large party this will certainly appeal to you. read more

The breakfast is good if you get in there early, but it doesn't remain well stocked or hot after 8am. Sadly, the coffee was lukewarm at best at 8:05 AM. Pro-Tip: Avoid buildings 16 thru 19.. Having stayed here previously, the routine seems to be this is the side of the property where folks who enjoy getting high in the parking lot are assigned rooms... Sadly, this same area where the terrific dog space is located. Also, PARK in front overnight for best security. The only visible security cameras are in front & the area is visible from the front desk.. I had to stay here for two months due to home repairs, I honestly loved it here! Had no issues staff was always available when I needed something. Staff was also very nice and friendly. I stayed at this Residence Inn for one night but although the guy at the front desk was VERY nice, I did not stay again. I arrived after having chatted within the Bonvoy app but when I arrived, the guy was about to put me in the exact kind of room placement that I had said I DID not want. He was kind and quickly changed it. I went to the room which was very conveniently located near the hotel lobby and next to the parking lot so I could easily get to my room with my luggage. When I went into the room, I was pleased at how cute it was and clean! I unpacked and went to bed. This is when the problems started. The room was FREEZING. No matter how many times I put the temperature up to 73, it would go back down to 70. The other thing that was happening is I guess the hotel is located on a known place to drag race, drift, and burn rubber. It kept happening over and over. I finally called the front desk and the guy was so kind. He came to the room and overrode the temperature. He said that the heater is set to turn off when no motion is detected and it is my job to tell the front desk if I want to control the temperature. I have never heard of such a thing and I lived at a Residence Inn for a few months in SAN RAMON! Plus what kind of motion do they expect when people are asleep? So, about the drag racing, the guy told me that it would stop soon. I figured that was a line but he was right! Around 11 it did stop as did the kid who was running up and across the floor in the room above me. Surprisingly, I slept very well! The bed was not that comfortable but it was ok. I slept right through breakfast because it ended at 9 and there was no way I would wake up! I would not stay there again because of all the drama but still thought it was ok because the front desk clerk was a doll! I don't remember his name but he did share that his mom was in a car accident so if you are a manager reading this, ask around. He deserves a raise. He is the best! Such a caring person. read more

We stayed here as a quick overnight from a long road trip. Coming from the Residence Inn in Arizona, we thought it would be pretty similar. In fact, this was not the case. This particular property is very very old and feels like a 2 star property. I had an issue with my key card. The reader doesn't work well so you have to jiggle your key. Also, when you close the door, it will not shut on its own. Make sure you slam it and check that it's locked. But beware, there are spider webs and spider nests along the outside of the door frames. So be careful! When you first walk into your room, you will wonder what that funky smell is. Rest assured, it's probably all the scents collected in the popcorn ceiling. The property is noisy and the lights in the room kept flickering in kitchen for over an hour each time it was turned on. Even with all the lights on, the room is very dark. The carpet is old so don't walk around barefooted. Make sure you have shoes on. The kitchen was spacious but everything was dated. The kitchenware stuff looks like it's from the 80s or 90s. The drawer was missing most all the utensils and the few that was there were rusted. The red bar/dining chairs were actually dirty when we arrived. There was a lot of crumbs in the seams. This makes me wonder if the cleaning crew actually clean and sanitize during COVID-19. The bed skirt had red stains on it near the nightstand and the airvents above the bathroom door was thick and filthy. It was nice that the property offered hot breakfast but when we went to the lobby to pick it up, it was a bag of microwave food that was actually unhealthy and unappetizing. We ended up getting a nice breakfast at Panera Bread across the street. Even though it's an old property, I feel like there is a lack of attention to detail. We just don't understand how this place is unlike the other residence inns we've been at. read more

I'm not sure why some people are giving this place 5 stars. I checked in for a one night stay based on the reviews and would never stay here again. And the pictures of the place seemed nice, but definitely deceiving. I had to sign a waiver upon check in and agree to all of their requests. Weirdest one was a mandatory 10pm curfew! Seriously?! When I got to the room it smelled so bad. The dishwasher was broken, and I couldn't turn it off after numerous attempts, so it literally beeped every 5 minutes which was the most annoying thing. I'm a light sleeper so this was the worst. I went into bathroom and a piece of tile popped out as I stepped on it. Not to mention nothing looked clean, especially with that pungent smell. Was really disgusting and will never be staying here again! read more

When I arrived to check in, they were having computer issues but were able to get my room fairly quickly. Requested something very basic for my visit, extra pillows. I made the request via the Bonvoy app. They failed to deliver. I also had an uninvited room guest, a nice big cockaroach (photo attached). Nothing like getting ready for bed and having to chase down a cockarocah. I just kept thinking, how many friends did he bring with him? I know this property is pet friendly, but did not realize elephants were allowed. I was awoken by what sounded like a family of elephants at 4am. The guests in the room above me sounded like they were playing trampoline on the floor. The free breakfast was ehhh. Pro tip: Stay somewhere else if you have the choice. Staff is very nice, the hotel is not. Not a good part of town. Oh my, where to start. How are there 5 star reviews of this place? At first glance, this seemed like a decent place. The lobby was nice enough. The staff is all incredibly nice. Downhill from there... There were spider webs everywhere outside the door and stairs. The room itself looked clean until you looked closer. I wonder how they managed to "sanitize for COVID" but not actually clean? The previous guests clearly had a dog with them. There was dried blood in the bathroom. The desk chair was nasty. The bar stools were sticky. The crib was full of crumbs and dog hair. The street commerce is discrete but definitely there. If you've never seen a drug deal or a prostitute working, you might not notice it. It seems like most of the guests have insurance or the city paying for their stay. I've stayed/lived in many Residence Inns. Marriott should be ashamed that their name is on this hotel. read more

I base my reviews on my experience for what the level of quality expected is. I won't give a 1 star restaurant a bad review because it didn't live up to a 5 star experience. That said, this hotel is rated as a 3 star hotel. Based on that, I had a 5 star experience for a 3 star hotel. Here's why... 1. The front desk was beyond helpful. I had loud neighbors and they immediately moved me as I had to work early in the am. The morning (possibly manager) person, Melissa I believe, was so amazing! I was there only because I was stranded from the snow in the overpass to NV and she let me do a late checkout and touched base with me on the status of the road opening. So above and beyond! 2. The room was clean enough for the 3 star level. Yes, it is older and off a main highway, but it was surely accommodating for a brief stay. The price for the area was very reasonable comparative. The ease of check-in and check-out was great. 3. This hotel is sooooo pet friendly!!! As I was stranded I ran out of dog food and in the lobby they had dog food, a water bowl, and pet treats! They also have a designated 'dog park' with a lot of grass and pet waste disposal. This truly saved me as I was so scared I wouldn't find a place for me and the pup to stay last minute while stranded. 4. The location is super close to everything you could need (gas, restaurants, grocery etc) and the highway itself. I am probably missing some compliment I just can't think of because it has been a couple weeks since my stay. To put it straight, this place exceeded my expectations. I would absolutely recommend if you are looking for great service and an excellent 3 star hotel. read more

This is a bad hotel. Period. I travel a lot for work and leisure and this is the worst Marriott hotel of any brand I have seen in years: - It is old and totally beat up. It must have been a decade and probably much more since the last proper renovation. - Our room wasn't clean. Not disgustingly dirty, but enough smudges, garbage under the bed, and dirt/dust to be unpleasant. - Breakfast had hot sandwiches and egg quiche that would have been okay if not stone-frozen inside. - THE WORST: I couldn't get more than 10 min of sleep. Each room has an individual HVAC unit and dozens of those AC compressors are standing right in front of each building. Half of those are broken and rattle like a fork in a blender. The #1 reason anyone stays in a hotel is to get a decent night of sleep - that wasn't going to happen. Stay anywhere else. If you have to, maybe ask for the top floor - there is a slight chance that will be a bit quieter at night, but I doubt that. read more

We always have good experiences here. Our room is always clean. There a roll of paper olees dish soap and full size refrigerator in the fridge for one usually which is a plus. Some rooms have a fireplace if not all of them. They allow pets as our neighbor had dogs. They have a small area in Libby to purchase drinks /vending items and a grab and go breakfast. There is tennis courts pool and bbq areas perfect for traveling sports teams to stay for tournaments in town read more

-Was staying at Residence Inn in Bakersfield, CA for the night this past weekend. I parked around the side in front of the building with our room. We parked in the well lit, gated parking lot, that had signs indicated 24 hour video surveillance. Our car was jam packed because we are moving so we only removed a few personal items for our overnight stay. -at around 11 PM, I received a call from the front desk telling me that my car had been broken into and there had been a theft -I checked my car, the rear passenger window had been busted. Two large suitcases of clothes had been stolen along with my DSLR camera and lenses. (M -I came to the lobby and asked if the police had been notified. Emma, the front desk worker said that I had to call them, so I did -Bakersfield PD was essentially useless. They said they don't send officers out for that kind of thing. I had file the report online -I asked Emma about this and she just ROLLED HER EYES, SHRUGGED and said, "Bakersfield is sh***y" -I asked Emma if the hotel could call the police and see if they could get someone to come down there and she said that they don't do that -I asked about the security cameras and she informed me that there are no cameras in that area, only in the front, by the lobby. -AT NO POINT WAS I OFFERED AN INCIDENT REPORT OR A COMPED STAY -Emma only suggested that I move my car to the front and asked if I'd like to switch rooms. -Security was not notified. Eventually he came around to check in. He asked how tonight was going, Emma simply said, "Nothing really. Just a break-in" -I asked security if they could help, he said he could call the police himself but said they would not come until the next morning at the earliest -security did not investigate the incident, did not ask me or my partner any questions, did not offer to escort us to our new room, did not even stick around. -the entire incident was treated with no sense of urgency. They treated me more like I was making a noise complaint or something. They seemed to follow no emergency procedures and have no concern for my well being or safety following this unfortunate event. It was only after I demanded an incident report to be filled out was I offered one. -I called and spoke with the GM, Pamela, the next morning and was offered little help. Just hiding behind the "We are not liable for accidents and thefts of personal property left in cars" rhetoric. -while I understand this policy, you are still responsible for your guests' safety and well being. And for assisting them in such incidents. Instead, we were treated with a "what would you like us to do about it" attitude. -I've been a Marriott customer nearly my entire life. My parents are Marriott Bonvoy Premium members. And I have never been treated so poorly or had such awful service. I have a complain regarding 1 of the front desk . Her name is Mary Jane . She's being rude and disrespectful. Im trying to ask for my receipt and trying to pay the days that I stayed and trying to use another card that I already used, but Mary Jane refuse to listen to everything or detail that I was trying to explained to her, she said she is gonna call the manager so could talk to the manager but she didn't and trying to treat me like Im not a guest. And suddenly she is being nice and pleasant to the other guest, she told me that she gonna call security and kick me out. But Im just trying to pay my account and get my receipt. The front desk is being racist because she help the other guest but she didn't help me out . Because of this incident Im going to another hotel. Many hotels say they are pet friendly, but they don't have outdoor spaces for pets to do their business. This hotel was created to accommodate them in many ways. There is lawn, real lawn, all around, including a very long pet area. The size of the rooms is very comfortable and large. Amenities include free breakfast, and really good food. Upon arrival, things didn't look so bad. The lobby look updated and clean and check-in was fine. Things started going downhill from there. The room seemed fine until you started to look more closely. We found that someone had covered a smoke detector with a plastic bag and rubber band. We could only image what the previous folks were up to. The black-out curtains had holes in them that allowed enough light through in the morning to wake us up. The shower/tub knob was broken and I had to try to repair it just so that we could take a hot shower. The water had so much chlorine that it smelled like a public pool. The curtains had been put up with plumber's tape and electrical cable clamps. On to the clientele. At roughly $200/night we assumed that that it would be a little more upscale than it turned out to be. No one was wearing masks (at the hotel or around town for that matter), even some of the staff only "sort of" wore them. Large groups of people in rooms being loud and leaving doors propped open for hours. One of our favorites was the guy getting high in his car right next to the stairs we used to get to our room. Very classy. Overall, quite a rough crowd. If I had to guess, I'd say that the city/county must be paying to keep people/families in this place. We were excited each morning when our cars had not been broken in to. We both expected them to be. I would recommend NOT staying here. read more

We got to our room late night and there was a roaches in the bathrooms and kitchen. The next day we seen pet fleas in our room and bathroom. When we walked out of our room there was 2 condoms right outside our door, there's people that hang out there in there cars and outside this hotel by building 5 We used to book here all the time but from this experience I would never go back we pay too much for this service. I have stayed here multiple weeks for work. My main complaint is with a company rate its still expensive to pay $140.00 a night. Not worth that at all especially for the run down part of town its in. Not the cleanest hotel and it definitely hasn't been remodeled in 10 years. Its a max 110 a night stay with all the homeless people walking around. + lots of restaurants and gym within walking distance. read more

Very nice stay at RI! Driving back to Bay Area when our car broke down in Bakersfield. Needed to find a pet friendly hotel with an early check in. My husband talked to the front desk clerk on the phone who was very friendly and said they could accommodate us. All the staff were great and the room was wonderful! King size bed, nice size kitchen area, and living room. The next day they gave us a late check out while we waited for our car to be fixed. Lots ofgrass on the grounds for dogs! My dog was given bottled water and treats while we waited in the lobby by Michael, who was very personable and friendly each time he saw us. Reasonable rate for room. We walked from our car to our 2 bedroom suite and encountered two young adults making out and humping next to the stairway. Next to them was a 3rd male smoking pot, which permeated the whole area. I really love Residence Inn properties. I've stayed at a bunch of them and they have never let me down. This particular location was no exception. The family and I rolled into Bakersfield, tired from the LA traffic and decided to hunker down here. Late check-in, got my keys within minutes of the front desk hello. Since I am Marriott Gold, they put us in the room right upstairs, which was awesome. Room was very clean, spacious, and typical of the brand. Kitchenette, fully stocked cutlery and glasses, and full size fridge. Large king bed, modern TV with full Netflix apps, and clean bathroom. Aside from the dirty air vents, this room was very clean. Best thing? I wake up, and head right downstairs to get a bite to ear from the signature breakfast buffet. Not quite the full spread, but more than a continental breakfast that's for sure. I stayed here very recently for 18 nights straight. I started a new job in Bakersfield and immediately had to find a place to stay until I could find a place to rent. The rooms are large, nice, clean and ideal for a long stay. The full kitchen with built in bar was really good. Breakfast is okay. Decent coffee and fresh fruit. I had 2 small complaints which prevents me from giving it 5 stars. The toilet in the room had very low water pressure and weird way of flushing and got stopped up once and had to call maintenance. Also, I accidentally dropped my glasses off a nightstand in the middle of the night when I reached for my bottle water and forgot to pick them up off the floor the next morning when I was rushing to get to work. When I got back I spent 20 minutes looking for them. My husband asked the room service girl and they didn't know where they were. I think it's obvious that one of them carelessly stepped on them and trashed them. There is no other logical exploration. :-( read more

Not sure if this is a rare fluke but my first room I received had popcorn kernels and some pills on the ground. They moved me rooms and there was still a floor having been dirty. Then the fridge was rumbling and loud. I had to pull the entire unit out to unplug it. It was 9:45 pm when I arrived so calling maintenance when I had to be up early for work was not the best option after one room change. For 189 per night I don't think this should have happened like this. Please replace the loud fridge and double check your vacuum. Thank you.
