This establishment has bugs, they insist they are contained to the bottom floor instead of having the whole place treated. They then asked for a review and were very unpleasant when I give my feedback. My room was dated and the couch was falling in, the tiles were chipped and cracked in bathroom and kitchen. I come to the University of Iowa twice a year to participate in an Alumni Advisory Board with the College of Engineering. We meet for dinner on a Thursday night and then participate in an all day meeting on Friday. I have found my entire volunteer effort to be rewarding and am grateful for this modest opportunity to give back to the College that was such a key piece of my long career. I'm happy to make the long trip from Northern Nevada, but there are expenses to consider. In particular, hotel space during the recent Homecoming weekend was both sparse and expensive. I planned for this by making my reservation (almost a year in advance) further away from Iowa City towards Cedar Rapids. At the time, the Hotel with the best combination of proximity (maybe 30 minutes away) and price was this Residence Inn by Marriott. The Hotel was easily accessible off (and on) the 33rd Avenue exit off I-380, with easy parking, and short drives to various dining options. I found the Lobby/Breakfast area to be comfortable and welcoming. The free hot breakfast was also more diverse and interesting than I've come to expect. During my 3-night stay, it was clear that other Hawkeye fans had the same idea, although we were in the minority to the various trades guest who were staying here. My room was very spacious and relaxing. I appreciated the division between bedroom and Livingroom, and a nice Kitchen. The showers were strong and hot, and with good Wi-Fi. My only quibbles were that the Livingroom was a little dark (even when fully lit) and I should have asked for maid service at least once within my 3-day stay. I'll be back in the Iowa City area next April and October. Room availability will probably be easier in Iowa City next Spring, but you just might find me here for the next Homecoming. I stayed last night and had a major problem with third party booking company. Rachael, at the front desk, worked VERY hard to get everything worked out for me. In the end, Residence took care of me! Bed was comfortable, room was spacious and clean. I will definitely be back! read more

Nice place but don't stay here if you have a pet. Their pet fee is $100 a night. I can board my small dog for less than that at a prime facility. On top of this issue, our TV didn't work. Unfortunately I couldn't change the review to a 1 star. read more

We had a wonderful stay on a weekend during a hockey tournament. The hotel is very new, and extremely modern. It has a great layout, including a nice gym and a really nice pool area. The biggest surprise was the outdoor basketball court (they have a basketball) - it was in really great condition. The hot breakfast was great both mornings, and the staff kept it clean and restocked. I really liked that they had a small selection of food stuffs and beer / wine for purchase, it saved us a trip to the store. As others have mentioned, the rooms are uniquely laid out with a full kitchen (apt fridge, stove, microwave, dishwasher and sink). You don't need to bring anything as they have cookware, utensils and even dish soap and such. Our room was a king-size bed with a fold out couch that was not really comfortable, but it worked for my son. It was quiet at night, comfortable and had plenty of hot water. Overall, this is a great location for business or fun. It's super close to the highway and only 2 miles from downtown. Definitely would recommend this hotel to friends and family. read more

This was the dirtiest hotel I have ever seen. We stayed for 5 nights and never had housekeeping stop by. Garbages all over the hotel were overflowing, with additional trash bags next to them. The carpet is gross. One of my friends got to her room and found feces in her toilet, and another had blood on her sheets. The staff was not pleasant either. read more

Decided to stay here for a show at the US Cellular Center. The building looked newer than the other hotels around it so I'm glad we chose this one. Walking in we were greeted by the front desk person and he was very friendly. Inside looked really modern and bright. I like all the windows that allowed natural light to come in. It made it seem more clean and modern. Check in was easy but the only complaint I have was when we went upstairs to our room neither of the keys worked. My husband had to go back downstairs while I stayed upstairs so we didn't have to take all our stuff back down. He did say it was most likely he did it wrong because he was new. The room we had was huge! I love that they had a full kitchenette and everything was very clean. The bed was very comfortable and I liked that they had Netflix and Hulu available if we wanted to put in our accounts. I wanted to make a drink while we relaxed and realized that there was no ice since we'd need to make it. I went to look in the hall if they had an ice machine and one of the housekeeping staff was nice enough to find me some. Usually I have problems staying asleep at hotels but it was pretty quiet throughout the night and the walls seemed thick enough so that was nice. I'd definitely stay here again because the staff was friendly and everything was clean and seemed more modern and new. Will have to check out the pool and gym next time! read more

Very comfortable room with a separate bedroom and all you need in the kitchen. The staff here is awesome from our favorite housekeeper Becky to the Managers Abigail and Devante. We had an extended stay and they made it so nice. If we are in the area we will definitely stay here Again. Restaurants, shopping and interstate are near by So it's a convenient location. read more

BED BUGS! Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else. Management at the hotel also did a pretty horrible job at handling the situation. I had to get a Marriott corporate liaison involved to help remedy this situation. You'd think after finding bed bugs in your room and having bites on your body that the hotel would do everything in its power to remedy the situation and agree to your reasonable requests, but you'd be wrong. Stay at a Hilton, sleep in your car, just don't stay here. read more

Love this hotel. Sad we didn't stay in the rooms this week, but we did rent the meeting room today for our job fairs. Staff is amazing and helpful. Meeting room was great and perfect for what we needed. Love that this hotel has an evening reception with food, beer, and wine. Updated and clean. You know they give great service when you haven't stayed here in 18 months but the manager recognized and acknowledged you hadn't been there in a while. Granted I did stay there for almost a month straight 18 months ago, but with the amount of guests they see, it's a great complement to the hotel for their level of service. Still new. Clean. Pretty quiet. My room was on the back side of the hotel, east end, where there's a warehouse. They are close enough that you can hear sounds from the dock. But it's intermittent. Fitness room provides treadmill, elliptical and cycling options for cardio, and dumbbells. Also have a manager's reception Mon - Wed nights, but I did not check it out. In an area with older hotels and fairly industrial. But, it is five minutes from stores and restaurants. Plus, you can get from this end of town to the other where there are more restaurants and shopping in 10-15 minutes. I will stay again. read more

This is a great hotel for a family stay. Everything is new and clean. Our room included a kitchenette with dishwasher and coffee pot, great for parents of little ones. The shower had great water pressure and the bed was very comfortable. The free breakfast was pretty standard, they did have high chairs and booster seats to accommodate. First time in Marriott property in over a year , in Cedar for a week every month, my normal Hilton hotel was booked. This hotel is brand new and very nice compared to some of the other properties nearby. I like the kitchen setup, in fact cooked my own dinner for first time ever while traveling. I would highly recommend this hotel if in the Cedar Rapids area. If I could get get Platinum status right out of gate, I would possibly think about switching my Hilton loyalty. I gave only 4 stars because of two downsides with my stay -- it took forever to get hot water to come out of the shower, I would turn it on and let it run for 5 minutes, and eventually it would get hot. I never was able to get hot water from kitchen or bathroom tap. They need some variety to there hot breakfast choices-- maybe some bagel toppers, or other items. It's still a really nice hotel. The only reason I'm giving this place two stars instead of one is because the room itself is pretty nice and everything is new in clean. But if you're looking for a stay with no hassle you've come to the wrong place. It seems like everyone is new and has no idea of how to work here. They can't even print a simple receipt. Also my card has been charged double for the same thing because they have no idea of what they're doing. If they could get better management and workers. This place would be a lovely stay. read more
