The room was spacious with a kitchenette and a nice big closet. The front desk gentleman was so nice and friendly. The downfalls of the hotel is the cleanliness; the floors, sinks, elevator, everything you can tell haven't been cleaned for who knows how long. In our bathroom the hooks which I'm guessing are for towels are missing, the vanity hasn't been wiped down, and something as simple as the track of the closet could be vacuumed. We have a small child and I wasn't comfortable letting them crawl around in our room. In the kitchenette, the garbage disposal and under the sink smelled horrible, the dining room table had what looked like dust on it but not too sure, the dishwasher was running when we came which was fine. We are staying here a couple more times for a hockey tournament and I'm really hoping our rooms are cleaned better. read more

The Homewood Suites in Grand Rapids is very nice. We stayed there for a hockey tournament this past weekend. The hotel was very welcoming to the hockey families. There were two youth hockey teams staying there, so the set up a conference room for the kids to play knee hockey in. This was great for the kids and kept them from running the halls. The room we had was very nice. It was nice for relaxing in between games. The staff allowed the parents from both hockey clubs to gather in the breakfast area each night. It was very nice of them since the parents were pretty load when the St Louis Blues versus the Dallas Stars game was on tv. The hotel's breakfast was to be expected. I had their oatmeal and coffee. The robust coffee was very good and the woman working the dinning area was very nice. If I find myself in Grand Rapids again I would definitely stay here again. Avoid at ALL costs. If for one reason above all, it's because this hotel is DIRTY. I've stayed at roadside motels cleaner than this place. Visible trash, dirt, dried food, crumbs and dust everywhere. If that's not enough of a reason, consider my specific experience below: We checked in and went up to our room, (the room key didn't work so we had a maid buzz us in....) only to find DIRT all over the bed (photo attached). Absolutely disgusting. We went down and told the front desk, and they told us sometimes the vent blows dust onto the beds. UMMMM, maybe clean the vents then? They tried to make it seem like it was a logical excuse. So we go up to our NEW room, and AGAIN, the key doesn't work. Wtf?! We go downstairs AGAIN for help. A housekeeper comes up to help us get in, and HER KEY DIDN'T WORK EITHER. At that point we explained our frustration, and she started to get a little mouthy with us and let out a massive, inappropriate sigh as she walked off. Absolutely no sympathy or assistance. Worst customer service I've ever experienced. Minutes later ANOTHER maid came and finally helped us into our room. No idea what the issue was. At this point the entire ordeal took 15-20 minutes to get into our room. I'm sorry but that's embarrassing. No hotel should be running that operates like this. Once inside the room, we found leaves on the ground, dried food on the carpet, beds that were a little messy. Overall it didn't feel clean at all. Throughout the hotel you will find trash everywhere. You'll hear all your neighbors through the thin walls. You'll probably find men sitting in the hallways at 2am like we did a few nights ago (so creepy). PLEASE do yourself a favor and stay across the street instead!!!! read more

Some work friends and I were down here to see some Target stores and the distribution center in Cedar Falls. We were checked in quickly and they had some free beer on tap and wine if you wished to partake. I did, before heading off to a Low A Twins baseball game nearby, the Cedar Rapids Kernels. (By the way, you should definitely see a game if you have a chance, they have a world class stadium for a Single A baseball team!) They also had free dinner, one dude in our party didn't like the raviolis, but they looked good to me, and there was a small salad bar and a nice selection of marinara sauce and bread sticks. Not bad for a free dinner. Also, free beer! The king size bed was comfortable and the comforter was heavenly. I quickly dozed off after the game. They also had a full size fridge and stove in the room. Very slick. I think this place is for the weekly/monthly contractor because they have a different dinner every night and activities on the grounds. They also have a free breakfast, which included eggs, hard boiled and scrambled, as well as biscuits and gravy and fresh cut fruit and yogurt and coffee, also some dry cereal and pastries and bagels and stuff.. Overall, it was a huge win for a $110 price tag after my wife and I checked out. There is also a little convenience store to the side for some staples. I woke up early and hit the treadmill which had a TV attached to it in the morning. Also, checkout was seamless! There were also a few elliptical machines and a pool for you to try. This is a newer, well-priced hotel on the outskirts of Marion. The rooms are clean, well-appointed, and relatively large. Our king suite had a nice kitchenette, a water closet separate from the sink/get ready area, and a comfortable bed. It also had a queen size pullout, so the rooms are shareable. The breakfast was free, the only knock is that the fruit wasn't fresh and the eggs were instant. The coffee was good but the overall food quality could be upped a bit. That said, free is free, which I appreciate. It is in an area that does not have any restaurants or bars within easy walking distance, and there is no bar in the hotel. read more

Our trip to Iowa City was part of the great college search of 2013! We stayed at this hotel in its infancy--it was a mere 4 days old. I had booked the room online before the hotel was completed. Unfamiliar with Iowa City, I knew I was taking a chance. Glad to report that all was well, for the most part. The professionalism of the staff was superb. Michelle from Glen Ellyn welcomed us enthusiastically upon our 10pm arrival. She even supplied us with a little toothpaste, which we forgot to pack. The four of us stayed in a one bedroom suite that had two queen beds--teenaged boy was banished, happily, to the fold out sofa. The room was not ginormous, especially with the sofa bed unfolded, but it was great to have the separate bedroom. The bathroom area is a little tight, too, although the separate sink area was appreciated. Of course, as with any new enterprise, there were some glitches. The fitness room wasn't completely put together, yet. There were boxes left to unpack. More disappointingly, the hotel didn't have its liquor license, so a glass of wine after a long drive remained just a dream. Parking was easy, although I don't know how the parking situation will play out once this hotel/entertainment area nears completion. It was a little desolate, with all the partially finished structures around. But, we were there to tour the university, so we cared most about comfort, safety, and proximity to campus. We liked things well enough to book for Family Weekend 2013. Yes! Daughter chose Iowa! read more

This seems like a fairly new hotel, or recently renovated. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The staff is courteous. I arrived about 1:00, two hours before check in according to their website, and I got into my room after a short wait. The desk clerk pointed me in the direction of lunch, and was very friendly. The room smelled fresh and the dishwasher was running. This is one of very few places where I will choose to stay over a Marriott (I'm the highest level of Marriott elite status). I have stayed at the Marriott across the street and honestly prefer here. read more

We were very pleased with the customer service, the comfortable accommodations, and the kindness we received while booking and during our stay at Homewood Suites in Cedar Rapids. When our loved one passed away rather abruptly we contacted Homewood Suites North in order to find a room block. Not only were they able to provide a room block at a discounted rate, they also provided us with a meeting space where we could congregate post funeral activities on two of the three evenings. The space allowed us to be a family and make memories we could take with us when we left. To go above and beyond, the staff even wrote us a kind note and went out of their way to provide a positive experience while we were guests in the hotel. We enjoyed the pool area, the complimentary breakfast, and watched our football game in the public space as a family. We also appreciated the accessibility for our older guests who utilized walkers. The only hiccup or criticism was we did receive attitude from an employee at the desk in every interaction we had either in person or on the phone. I wouldn't bring this up but it was a sentiment shared by almost every family member. It was perhaps due to personal reasons of the employee and we understand that life happens. I do hope that the feelings are resolved and that the employee finds joy in their position for the sake of future guests. We do wish the employee the best and understand that some days are tough. Thank you for providing us with such stellar service and a place we were able to celebrate our loved ones life in comfort. I plan to recommend your accommodations to anyone we know in the the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City Area. read more

The staff at the front desk is great! Very friendly people that make you feel welcome. Only 3 stars.. I had multiple rooms that had issues with hygiene and being dirty. Maid service was below average. Some days came after 4:30pm! All in all, I would stay here again due to the convenience, free breakfast, and friendliness of the front desk and kitchen staff. Place isn't horrible but it's not all that clean either. The floors even in elevators and what not look kind of grimey. We had an extended stay here and again for the price not terrible but the worst part is breakfast and I'm a big breakfast fanatic. So this kind of ruined it for me. Eggs are always powdered eggs or some sort of horrible sub bc they certainly aren't real eggs. They have the consistency of a sponge and I was there two weeks so this was every single morning. Bacon gets all cooked together and isn't batch cooked. It looks crispy but is an awful fatty chewy texture, every single morning without fail. Waffles and French toast were decent but nothing to get excited about. Coffee all day is fine. Dinners are alright but just not the highest quality on much and I don't consider myself uppity or anything I'm super laid back and easy going but the food needs updating. read more

This has always been one of my favorite Hotels for a couple reasons. They serve a dinner four days a week and have complement beer and wine to add. I am not sure how this is rated #2 by another travel website in Cedar Rapids, if so the other hotels must be horrible. I have never been more disappointed in a Hilton brand hotel than I was this last week at the Homewood Suites on Park Place NE in Cedar Rapids Iowa. Upon arrival, when the front desk reception handed us our keys they announced our room number out loud, which wouldn't have been a big deal but there were numerous people in the lobby. It is common knowledge that you don't announce room numbers. I had booked a one bedroom suite as we were going to be in town for a week and thought having a small kitchenette would be nice. When I opened the cupboard it seemed as though some items were missing, I looked into the dishwasher and there they were--dirty. I went into the bathroom area to wash up and there I found nothing had been dusted for a VERY long time. At this point if I had not prepaid for our room I would have left and found a different hotel. Over the course of our stay, we had to ask for more hangers-4 hangers for two people for a 6 day stay is not enough, housekeeping did bring a few more right away; that was a plus. We had to request one of the chairs to be vacuumed as there were food items from the former guests, we had to request new towels and our bed was made "properly" one time during our stay and our sheets were never changed. We noticed the staff would take smoke breaks by the front door during breakfast. Not once during our stay when we came into contact with staff did anyone ask how our stay was going. We even rode the elevator with the executive housekeeper once. There were a few positives for our stay; the AC worked well, there was a ceiling fan in the bedroom, the blow dryer worked well and the lighting in the dressing/sink area was good. read more

Stayed here over Christmas and enjoyed the spacious suite, the tasty breakfast and the comfortable beds. I'd give it one more star except for a rather disappointing experience with the pool and jacuzzi being closed all day on Monday. Upon inquiring at the front desk, the clerk informed us that the Linn County health inspector had shut the pool down for shocking due to high levels of something in the water. He offered us usage of their sister hotel next door, but at -6 degrees, we weren't up for getting frostbite. No greeting when we arrived. They gave our college teams rooms away the night before and they were relocated to another property after a 6 hour ride. We (family of a player) tried to check in at 3pm and they didn't have a room ready for us either. We had made a special request for an upstairs room months in advance and finally received a room on the bottom level because "that's all they had available". We had to evacuate at 4:30am for a false fire alarm issue which I understand happens but I've worked for hotels and this property is in extreme need of some organization and management. read more

The rooms are nice and modern, they also have a lot of space. The hotel room was full of many good things such as a full kitchen with refrigerator and a stove. The hotel had good breakfast and dinner that was free and it had a shop to buy stuff if you need anything. The hotel pool was nice and the spa was too, the workout room was ok and I think it is a nice place to stay. read more

This place is tired. We are HHonors members and I use the app to find low rates. I was surprised that we could get such a good rate on a suite. At first glance it seemed ok. The dishwasher was running when we arrived and there was a gross smell from the garbage disposal. As the sun came up you could see holes in the drapes. The shower enclosure is discolored and has varying shades of sealer. I hope it isn't mold, but it certainly looks like mold around the base of the enclosure. At the very least there are unsightly black stains. The floor feels uneven under the carpet. The walls are badly banged and scuffed up. In the kitchenette the wallpaper is scraped up. The gray fuse box is in a weird place on a main wall right beside a print. It just looks out of place. There are a lot of amenities in this suite, but it is in need of some TLC. I felt safe here, Cedar Rapids is a nice place. The front desk folks are friendly. There are some DVD's and books to borrow. The bottom line is, it's not bad. I'm glad we got a good rate. read more

I have stayed here many times and will be back. It is a beautiful hotel with great amenities. My only gripe is the pool. For being such a large hotel, their pool is very tiny! We tried to swim recently with our young children and it was way too crowded and not to mention cold. :( read more
