    Couch room one
    Jeanne D.

[Update: Even though the manager told me that I would receive a refund, no refund has been received by my bank. In fact, even though I received a receipt for $153 via email (and a refund for the same amount) my card was charged $180. Front desk said manager would call me back tomorrow.] When we arrived at 9 pm, the front desk clerk was sitting on the couch in the lobby with her feet up on the table, watching TV. She wasn't wearing a mask. She gave me the room keys and said, "The red switch by the door controls the power for the whole room, so flip that on if you want lights. Unless you like sitting in the dark, then don't bother." Room was 60 degrees. I called down to see if there was a thermostat. She said, "Yes but they don't all work." Couch was disgustingly dirty, as was mattress in pull-out bed. Asked for another room. Second room was warm. Couch in second room better but still dirty. Dirty carpet. Mattress in pull-out bed gross. Covered the couch with spare sheets so my daughter could sleep on top of it. No soap in bathroom. Shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel dispensers broken and empty. Small bottle of shampoo by sink was already partly used. Smells like someone has been smoking in this room. Complained to corporate with photos. They said they'll "take my feedback to the team and make improvements." Wish I could get my money back. What a dive.

Filth in bathroom. The whole place feels dirty and worn out.

Zero stars. Dirty hotel run by uncaring people. Do yourself a favor and keep looking. Dumps like this make your travels miserable. In fact, the whole area around the hotel is disgusting and nasty. Foe example, we washed clothes in laundry room only to find out every drier was broken. Left with wet clothes and no way to dry. The person at the front desk knew this yet failed to put out of order signs up. In fact, she could not have cared less with her arrogant and condescending attitude. Karma is a bitch. What goes around, comes around. Don't believe me? Then find out the hard way.

Water damage in the bathroom with stains and mold

Omg! This place has completely gone downhill! Avoid at all cost. We have stayed at this property multiple times since it opened. It is severely dated, and old. Pool was closed - no notification, rooms smelled like smoke and everything is super tired and worn. Definitely not what I am accustomed to as a Marriott Rewards member. The place is pathetic and no one cares if the experience is poor. We had to move rooms after 3 nights...they cleaned the carpets (they should have removed them) and the AC quite working. The first room they moved us to reeked or smoke. The second room also reeked of smoke not nearly as bad but it had terrible mold with a water leak. I found it later that night, no way was I changing rooms a third time. It was a fiasco when I mentioned the smoke smell with the first room change. I reached out to Marriott and they referred me to the hotel, Ashley Shaffer who did absolutely NOTHING! I have included pics. Worst experience ever!!! Breakfast was awful, they didn't have juice or fresh fruit. My family skipped it all together. I would avoid this place at all costs. It needs to lose the Marriott name, it's an embarrassment to Marriott!

One of the worst hotel experiences I've every had and I've traveled the world including Afghanistan. The staff while nice are not trained by their management. In short we opened the sofa bed and it was full of dirt. We had to go down and get sheets for the bed and make it our self. The next day the "cleaned" the room and did no cleaning what so ever They left the old sheet from the sofa in the room. Kitchen was not cleaned and they left the ground in the coffee maker. As for the gym, the treadmills were not function correctly. The next day I was told they were fixed and they were not. The free weights were missing a number of weights and when I told the front desk they said the guest have been taking them????? I moved hotels but told them I had a package coming and they agreed to hold it for me. When I showed up the following day and the tracking system showed the package was deliverd, they said they forgot and returned it to the driver. When I call the company they told me their records show it was signed for by the hotel but not returned. Clearly this is not a well managed hotel and hard to beleiive its a mariott property. DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL.

The room was clean, spacious and had everything we needed for our stay. The reading light above each side of the bed was much appreciated! We received a HOT breakfast each morning which was wonderful since many hotels still provide the "brown bag" service due to COVID but this hotel made it to where we could enjoy a hot breakfast each day. The staff was extremely helpful and accommodating to our needs. The photos were taken during our stay and French toast with scrambled eggs and bacon was our breakfast on our last day.

    dirty/stained sofa cushions

Would rate it Zero if i could. Cribs/pack n play not available at this location. We have never encountered this at any hotel, even other Residence Inns and other Marriott hotels. Personnel at the front desk "to my knowledge, no" was the answer given when asking about portable crib. Manager had to be called for confirmation. See pictures of room condition. Dirty and damaged with no attempt to replace or repair. Sofa with many stains and tearing at seams, carpet fraying with sub flooring visible, broken refrigerator door handle, broken cabinet door (missing) with trash and sink components exposed. Certainly not kid friendly if concerned about safety and cleanliness. Disappointed is an understatement. Disgusted would maybe be a better description of our experience.

I loved my 2 day stay at Residence Inn. I grew up in Champaign and came home for a family visit & media promotion. The hotel was in a perfect spot - easy to get around to different parts of town & located centrally off the highway. Rooms: I stayed in a studio suite and I loved the layout. Definitely feels like an apartment with a full kitchen at the entry, small sitting/living area with a large desk, large bed, dresser area/closet & super large bathroom. The one bedrooms were also very nice. I really like the large shower set up with the stationary glass door. The showers have been designed so that the control valve is at the back so you don't have to lean in and get wet. #Brilliant The bed was super comfy and I like the clean white quilted look of the bed covers. The room was also fairly quiet considering I was staying near the elevator (Room 414) My room faced west so there was a nice glow in the late afternoon. Views - all rooms mainly face other hotels & the parking lot but, let's face it, you really aren't there for the views when you visit Central Illinois - #FlatAsAPancake Property: I loved the overall feel of this hotel! very inviting from the minute I walked in. Marriotts design for their long term stay chain, Residence Inn is very well done (I'm a building inspector in addition to a travel blogger and I've inspected over 30 hotels in my career so I'm a big of a design snob). I loved the high angled ceilings in the lobby as well as the pool area - this gives it a great design look from the outside. The entry lobby with couch/tv area that's super comfortable The building is 3 years old but is in great shape. Separate dining "cubbies"/tables- this makes it not feel to much like a cafeteria but there are still plenty of places where people can gather. The only design "flaw" is in the Breakfast area - the waffle area is right in front of the Staff door - this area is where people tend to stand so they don't burn their waffles. I noticed that staff & guests tended to bump into each other as the staff would come out to make sure everything was ok. The hotel holds receptions several nights a week which is a great way for guests to interact with each other (perfect for long term travelers so they don't feel so isolated). The hotel put together a little mini reception for me and my family so we would experience " #InnTheMix" Such a great way to make people feel at home - gatherings include happy hour style set up as well as dessert menus. Whitney with Food & Beverage and AGM Michael really put together a nice spread. There is an adorable outdoor seating area between the Dining Room and the pool - complete with chairs, lounges, a grill and a firepit. Many of the guests gathered there at night but it never felt crowded. Was a great spot for us to sit while my nieces played in the indoor pool - we could see everyone but were able to sit in a quiet spot and relax. Breakfast - all of the food served each day was very fresh. I definitely suggest you get there earlier as it starts to get a little sparse towards the end of the serving time which makes sense - why put out a bunch at the end, right? ;) #EarlyBirdGetsTheSausageGravy. The waffle batter dispenser seems to get fairly messy which is a machine design flaw (it seems like I'm picking on the waffle area, doesn't it?!) This is a full breakfast also and is very Midwestern (yay!) Eggs, sausage, potatoes, sausage gravy (not every day), variety of cereals Amenities: Pool - very open & room with the ability to swim laps as well enjoy the hot tub. Great for parties too. Gym - I wish I could say that I visited the gym after I imbibed at the free breakfast but I didn't (Stretchy pants for me until I get into the gym again!) From my brief tour of the room, it looked very nice & the equipment was up to date. Not a huge room but not too tiny and guests feel like they are on top of each other. Laundry - nice HE washers & dryers - this is especially great if you are traveling for a long period of time (like many of the guests are) Guest Dynamic - lots of professionals on long term job assignments in Champaign/Urbana as well as the University. The weekends seem to bring a mix of families. Parking - plenty of parking (although it was not a football weekend so it may get a little crazier then. All of the managers I met with were fantastic - each very knowledgeable and helpful. They all interact well with hotel guests and staff alike which I really appreciate. All of the staff treated the guests very well & responded to requests etc.

I haven't written a yelp review in a while, however, I feel this one is warranted. I booked a stay at the Residence Inn over a month in advance, as my family and I needed a solid week to house hunt, and we got a great rate. The booking was through Orbitz, and I had a room for a Saturday night, before moving to a different, larger room for Sunday through Friday. On entering the room Saturday night, I noticed that the light fixtures by the bed had their plastic frames cracked and broken. Also, they simply did not work. No big deal for me in all honesty. Then the refrigerator began making a god awful clicking sound. I opened the freezer, and it was the freezer motor. I had to pull out and unplug the fridge to make it stop. Still ok, as I wasn't planning on really utilizing the fridge. Then my wife went into the bathroom and informed me of the pink mold or bacteria growing in the shower. I called the front office and was told that the housekeeping crew had left for the day. They apologized but said there was no other room to move into as they were fully booked. I asked if I could cancel for that night, so that we could go elsewhere. I was told we could, however, they would not refund me, as my rate was lower than the rooms were going. I then asked to speak to someone, and was told the manager would be in the following morning, but there was nothing I could do. Because of the unavailability of rooms in. The area, we stayed. However, we had to buy flip flops to shower. This is completely unacceptable, and upon reading more reviews, this decent hotel is now really going down. I still have my stay booked for Sunday through Friday, so I will update this review as needed.

The Hotel Royer has been a popular choice for myself as of late whenever I am in town as it is a very solid option in terms of locale, price point and amenities. Whenever I walk in, I immediately notice two things. First off, the decor really brings together the theme of the hotel. I felt as if I was being taken back a few centuries to some royal kingdom, with portraits of historical figures, and furniture that is modern to the touch yet antiquated to the eyes. I also notice the smell, it is clean smelling and inviting. It certainly beats the musty cigarette smell you get at some places. The rooms in general are pretty good. The beds are comfortable, the lighting is decent and the space is typically pretty clean. The bathrooms are okay in my opinion (I am quite particular about this aspect). Sometimes the showers take a while to heat up and the toilet paper is pretty low quality. I think the weakest part of the rooms are the fact that some rooms do not have a desk. I think this is a big miss, as someone who visits on business a lot, it makes doing work in my room impossible sometimes. Additionally, the WiFi is super inconsistent, I found my devices being disconnected at will! In terms of amenities, I think the Hotel Royer is much better than the average Hilton. While there isn't the complimentary breakfast, they have their own restaurant, a well equipped gym and a pool. They also have a bar and their own banquet hall, for big events. The hotel is well located, in a walkable area and not too far from campus. Overall, I am a bit weary to select this hotel on future trips where business is important. However, if I am looking for a relaxing and quality stay, then I know the Hotel Royer will have me covered!

With Downtown Urbana located nearby, there are many things to do in this college town. Check- in was smooth, and staff were kind and responsive. I called down for additional coffee cups and they were delivered to our room right away. Around 9pm, we went for ice, and the machine on the 4th floor was empty. That was a bit frustrating, especially with the mini-fridge in our room being rather warm. It got cold after we turned the temperature dial down. There is no microwave in the room, but there is one available for use in the lobby, near the bar. The room has a motion- sensor light in the closet area that is dim enough for use during the night for trips to the restroom. I really liked that feature. The a/c pumps really cold air into the room, which we appreciated and the water pressure was good. I'd suggest bringing your own provisions with you. The sundry offerings in the lobby are being heavily taxed! A 16.9oz bottle of Sprite costs $4, a Haagen Daz ice cream bar will cost you $6, and the pints of ice cream are $8!
