Road tripping from California to San Antonio, TX, we stop in El Paso to sleep. Check-in was quick and placed on the Bonvoy preferred floor. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable. Because of covid, the breakfast was cold grab and go, but selection was good - burritos, sausage and bisquit, fruit, coffee, etc. The only opportunity was the front desk man was not the model Marriott employee, unfriendly and just going through the motions. The tub drain also was slow, so while showering I was standing in shin deep water, the drain stopper was open.

My yummy breakfast!! I loved the fresh fruit, scrambled eggs, and muffin! And it was really nice to have packets of Nutella, too!!

We stayed here just for one night and loved it! It was pretty easy to locate this hotel right off the 10 freeway, and parking was really reasonable and spacious. We stayed in a 2-bedroom suite, and were greeted with little hard candies on our pillows in each of the bedrooms! It was a nice touch! Especially since we never received candies before in any Residence Inn hotel stay! The front desk staff and the kitchen crew are super friendly and courteous! They asked us right away if we needed help Ruth anything! We felt completely comfortable and totally at ease!! We slept pretty well. And our request for a special ADA bathroom was immediately granted upon arrival. The ADA bathroom was really clean, which is a huge plus! Sometimes ADA bathrooms for disabled guests are not too clean in some hotels. But the one in our room at this hotel was very clean! And we were so thankful for that! The breakfast buffet was awesome!! In addition to serving the usual scrambled eggs, waffles, fresh fruit, coffee, and juices, it also had packets of Nutella for our muffins and bread items! We were stoked!! We certainly would love to stay here again when we visit El Paso again!!

Early November 2019: I just found out that I was going to have to go to El Paso, TX to work for 30 days. The more I thought about it, the more I was not looking forward to it. I would be away from my family during Thanksgiving again, and I have lived in El Paso for 13 years. El Paso is a decent city but not the place I was itching to go back to. I started making my travel arrangements and decided, what the hell I'm going to make the best of it. My plan was to go to work, get back to the hotel, drink a beer and kick back in the hot tub. Then do the same thing the next day, the 30 days will fly by I figured. So I looked around online and found Residence Inn by Marriott El Paso, they had a pool and hot tub, free breakfast and free beer 3 days out of the week. I showed up at the hotel kind of exhausted after traveling half way across the country, so I checked in went upstairs to my room, unpacked and went to sleep. The next day while waiting for a co-worker I saw the window to the pool and walked over to look. I looked left, right (I even looked up just in case); there was no hot tub to be found. I was angry, but I also didn't want to be late for work so I figured I would address it later. When I got back that evening, I asked the front desk to speak to the manager. She told me he would be in the next day. I was not a happy camper. The next day came and I went down to talk to the General Manager (Dereck, aka the warden). While talking to the manager, I got the impression that he actually did not care what my plans were for the 30 days and that he was kind of put off about having to speak with one of the inmates (I have worked for years in prisons and jails when I used to live in Florida). The warden advised me that they had remodeled and the hot tub was taken out and they "forgot" to take the picture off their official page even though they had pictures posted from after the renovation. The warden offered me some points that were good toward my next incarceration. I advised the warden that I would not be a recidivist, so I would not be needing those points. I returned to my cell angrier than I was before talking to the warden. I decided I would send a kite to the governor (Corporate). I explained my grievances to the governor and was told that the governor would tell the warden about my grievances (didn't he pay attention? I already spoke to the warden and the warden did not care). After work release the next day I received a kite from the warden that said his decision was final, I would get points towards my next incarceration. What follows are some notes I was able to scratch out on a smuggled piece of paper: Day 3: This place is starting to feel like a prison, how did I end up here. I'm a law abiding member of society! Day 7: I am drifting off to sleep, thinking about the 3am alarm clock for my work release. It must be bring your kids to work day at the prison because there are small screaming voices racing up and down the hall outside of my cell. Trying to sleep is futile. Day 10: what are the chances of two bring your kids to work days in one week? Day 11: I went downstairs to the prisons main office, while paying my restitution, I pointed out to the wardens secretary (I think she's on work release to because she is actually nice so she must me stuck working for the warden against her will) that the prison's license to do prison things (business license) was expired, it actually expired that day. My good deed was done for the day. Day 15: the walls are closing in, I am running out of toilet paper so I took the sign off my cell door as a signal to the jailer that I needed more. When I returned from work release, my trash was gone, my bunk was made....but no toilet paper. The only bright note is I am halfway through my sentence. Day 18: What a dreary day, didn't think it could rain this much in the desert. Went down for the evening meal and there was 3 inches of water in the hallway outside of the wardens office. I got excited, maybe they were hiding the hot tub that is on the pictures behind the laundry door! Nope.... I ate my burnt sausages and went back to my cell. Day 19: Evidently the prison staff is not happy with me. They put up a Christmas Tree outside of the wardens office, when a fellow inmate asked about it, the staff said they would have to take it down because one of the inmates was complaining about the prison not having a hot tub so they had to take more pictures....I guess now i'm the grinch that stole Christmas for the Residence Inn. Editors note: This was also the day I found out that the hot tub was taken out eight months prior, but they kept the picture on the website to attract customers. Day 19 (cont): today is also thanksgiving, I am keeping track of my incarceration using tick marks on a contraband note pad. Took my tag off the door today so the jailers could bring me more toilet paper. They never showed up. Day 20: the jailers ignored my request for toilet paper again. Tr

Nice desk. Where is the trash can!?

Welcome to grandmas house. No really, walking into this place is almost nostalgic, that's how dated did it is. Even from the outside this resembles a small cottage more than it does a hotel. For some that is a huge perk, for a business traveler or someone that travels often probably not so much. Front desk guy was AWESOME. For the love of God take the stairs. The elevator creeks slowly up all 4 stories. So many horror movies pass through your mind as you pray that it doesn't snap and crash to your demise. This is a first impression kinda thing, not a good start. The rooms have a nice floorplan and are quite open, but everything in the room could belong to your grandparents. It is clean, but misses some of the fundamentals. There is not a single trashcan in the entire room except for the bathroom. That does not make sense when you have a full kitchen and sink in the front room as well as a desk. The old-style bathtub with the shower curtain again is great if you're traveling with small children who need to take a bath, otherwise you feel like you were staying again in an older home. One of the major misses is something as simple as the hangers. I don't know who invented these plastic hangers but they are terrible. The slope will not fit a standard sport coat or dress shirt and they are not wide enough to fit a standard man's shirt. I know this seems somewhat of a snobbish thing but as a business traveler you need to look your best and these hangers are not going to help your situation. The king size bed is average. Definitely not the same bed that you will find in a Marriott courtyard or other property. If you are going to stay for a long time and require a more apartment style living area at this probably is right up your alley, but if you are a regular business traveler and like a more modern hotel the Courtyard by the airport is by far a better option.

I stayed here while visiting my son who is stationed at Fort Bliss. The customer service is top notch. Ivan, the front desk clerk, greeted me with a genuine smile as soon as I entered. One small snag was that housekeeping hadn't signed off on my room. I was affected by that because I put a cup of Raspberry tea in the refrigerator and a few items in my room before going to the car to get my bag and the housekeeper inspecting the room threw it away. She was still inside my room when I came upstairs. She replaced my fresh brewed tea with a bottled ice tea from the snack store in the lobby. It was not as good but the effort to rectify the mistake was appreciated. A complimentary full breakfast is served every morning in the breakfast area just to the right of the front desk. It's pretty good except they were serving sausage patties, no bacon. I will say the carpet looks like it's from 1973 but the rooms are nice and have fully equipped kitchens for long stays. I would definitely book here again.

So I just took that off. Then I went to wash my hands and there was no soap. I had to go back downstairs and request that as well. They did give me an extra bottle of water for my troubles though. The room was pretty run down and clearly not well cleaned. The shower curtain rod sagged in the middle so I couldn't close the shower curtain when I showered and got water everywhere. The towels were very stiff, had a bit of a smell to them and were stained. I honestly didn't want to use them. The gym was decent. 2 treadmills, 2 electrical, and a peleton. Breakfast was not so great. I had a made to order omelet but it just wasn't good. Neither was anything else I tried. I did appreciate that the mattress was a softer one instead of the firm mattresses you usually get at hotels. And the water for showers did get really hot which I love. I booked a room next to the stairwell as I prefer stairs to the elevator but the stairwell exit/entrance is on the outside with no re-entry. So you can go down them but can't go up them. I didn't get a chance to go to the daily evening reception but it looked pretty popular. All in all, this hotel needs some TLC and I would advise anyone to book accommodations elsewhere.

The rates were affordable, so I booked it for a night as I traveling to NM by morning. There was plenty of parking since they shared parking with the next-door hotel. The room I received did not have much of a view, but a tree. It was fine since the room was clean and did not have a musty odor. There was decor representing El Paso and even the headboard had an "ELP" graffiti mural on it which was a nice touch of character. I loved the bright lime green and the blue colors which added more charm to the room. It was modernized with a twist. The bed slept comfortably soft as well as the pillows. The gentleman working the breakfast area was incredibly kind and frequently checked on guests. The manager (jet-black hair and a big black mustache) was also very friendly and welcoming. There's a Starbucks right in the parking lot. The lobby and exterior were attractive and well-maintained. You can tell someone takes pride in the property's appearance. Unfortunately, the guest rooms told a different story. Our first night was spent in a double queen room where the towels smelled strongly of mildew and the heater took forever to warm the room. For the remainder of our stay, we moved into a king suite with a rollaway bed. Initially I was excited. More space, bigger bed, huge closet, and even a balcony! Then reality set in. The balcony was filthy and the view wasn't exactly something I'd call scenic. The bathroom doorknob was broken, the bathroom door didn't fit properly in the frame, and the ceiling was actually coming down. Every time the door opened or closed it scraped against the ceiling. There was also a leak under the sink, forcing us to use our bath towels to soak up water. The biggest disappointment, however, was the housekeeping staff. Several employees appeared visibly irritated when we declined room service early one morning. One employee became noticeably upset and began loudly speaking in Spanish while looking directly at me. When I asked if there was a problem, the answer was "No." Whether there was a misunderstanding or not, the interaction felt uncomfortable and unprofessional. I reported it to the front desk, but it seemed to be brushed aside. Overall, the hotel staff at the front desk and breakfast area were wonderful, but the condition of the room and the housekeeping experience overshadowed the positives.

The gym was also well-equipped, with towels provided, a good variety of equipment, and even a Pilates machine. Unfortunately, my experience with the front desk staff, particularly a morning employee named Edgar, left a very negative impression. On more than one occasion, I returned to the hotel and stood outside the entrance for 15-20 minutes waiting to be let in. He had seen me leave earlier and could clearly see me waiting at the door, yet made no effort to assist. Beyond that, his overall demeanor came across as passive-aggressive and unwelcoming. It's disappointing because the rest of the property and staff were great, and I genuinely enjoyed many aspects of my stay. However, customer service at the front desk is a major part of the guest experience, and this behavior was completely unacceptable. I would consider staying here again, but management should address this issue if they want guests to feel welcomed and valued.
