We had a really wonderful stay at this hotel. I love residence inns because i usually have a good experience. This place was no exception. The location is great. Beale St, Rendezvous, The Peabody, the riverfront are all within walking distance. Some of the places within a block or two. Location really couldn't be better. We elected to take advantage of the valet service which i found to be very reasonably priced. The person who checked us in was awesome. She was very friendly and helpful, she offered some really good suggestions for things to do/see. The room was the biggest room I have ever had in a hotel in my life and I've stayed in a lot of hotels. I can assure you that I did not select the highest room class when I booked this either. The thing was literally a LOFT with the bed and bathroom above the kitchen/living room area. There were large windows that provided a view of the city and even the river! The shower was great as well. There was plenty of space for using your own soaps. The water pressure was also better than expected. The shower was easy to use and figure out the towels were big and soft. Everything was spotless. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. read more

My stay was clean and amazing !! The staff is always kind , smiling, and accommodating. But again more importantly my room was CLEAN with a view of the river and the most relaxing firm mattress! I genuinely felt rejuvenated. I enjoyed the deee breakfast in the lobby and the breakfast area is truly comfortable and accommodating with outlets for you to start your work day remotely. Our stay started a bit shaky given that the street in front of the hotel entrance is totally block by construction. It would have been nice in all of the pre-check-in communications sent by the hotel if they sent out some warning on this situation. With the help of the valets we were able to get situated but we were lucky to have driven in from the east ($32 to valet park with tax). Once inside we were pleased to get a great upgraded corner suite on the 10th floor as Gold members. This was the best room of our 10 day trip that included 9 nights in Marriott properties. The room was not only spacious but the decor, fixtures and furniture were much nicer than most Residence Inns we have stayed at around the US. The public spaces in this old art deco renovated building were classier too and in good shape. The staff we encountered were all friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was pretty standard for RIs. The location was close to a number of attractions and "close enough" to the always loud and rowdy Beale Street. Highly recommended! read more

Super overpriced hotel that left a lot to be desired. At nearly $300/night, I expected a whole lot more than what we experienced. Upon check in, I had to push to get the upgrade that should have been offered automatically since I am a Bonvoy Platinum Elite member. Instead, the manager on duty informed me that a king room was the best they had to offer. I commented that there was a larger room that appeared to be available and he agreed that yes, it was a bit bigger and he could give me that. Regardless, that wasn't what made the stay less than stellar. The condition of the room and the questionable location are what disappointed me. The rooms have had some minor updates but the popcorn ceilings reveal the timing of the last major renovation. The vents rattle, the toilet didn't flush properly, the closet doors in the bedroom are flimsy and mirrored...you get the picture. And when we checked in to the room, the toilet seat in the bathroom was left up, a towel had been used (and had hair in it), and the mirrored closet doors were dirty/greasy. Additionally, the sofa bed was stained and in poor condition and had no sheets on it. A couple of additional closing gripes. Make sure you bring water. It's not offered like it is at most hotels. And if you try to message with the hotel staff through the Bonvoy app, don't expect a response. Lastly, the complimentary breakfast is subpar and there are almost no vegan/gluten-free options other than a packet of make it yourself instant grits and some bruised bananas. Overall, not an amazing experience and not a property that I can really recommend. read more

My family decided to stay here because we needed a room big enough for a family of 5 plus a child. The room was a nice size. 2 bedrooms with a queen bed and 2 full baths. Kitchenette and living room with sleeper sofa. The rooms seem a little dated for the price! There was complimentary breakfast that included powder eggs, sausage links, bagels, oatmeal, cereal, premade breakfast biscuits sandwiches and croissant sandwiches, and a waffle maker. There is also a Starbucks inside. I think I paid close to $400 per night. I don't think it was worth that. We also did valet parking for $33 per night. There is also self parking available in a paid parking garage nearby. Now I did see a sign that said they offered room cleaning every other night but after a full day being out and about, I requested room cleaning the morning after my first night. Unfortunately this never happened. I did get fresh towels though. I received a message from the hotel asking did I ever get my request and I informed them only the towels no fresh linen on the beds as of 2pm when I was last at the room. I returned to the room around 6pm thinking my request for cleaning would be done since the hotel had checked but nope it wasn't. My mom went down to get a drink and said she was asked something about the room in which she informed it wasn't clean. They apologized and gave extra towels. The hotel is located close to Beale street but I probably wouldn't return. Overpriced. read more

Pet friendly. People friendly... 5 walking blocks from Beale St, 2 blocks from RiverWalk and literally on the corner of Main St. 10 walk to Arnold's BBQ! 3 min walk to Sage Restaurant. Thank me later. Just go with the VIP parking. Otherwise I don't know where on God's Earth you're going to park in downtown memphis. The parking attendants are respectful and reliable and nothing on my car was damaged. The room, bathroom and kitchen area were clean. I don't know why you would want a kitchen area in Memphis! Have you not tasted any of the food there? Do you know their home for barbecue and catfish? You must be a total vegan scared of any bit of meat product. This is a fine hotel. It's not the Peabody but you won't pay Peabody prices, either. The entire staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The room was good-sized and very quiet. There's a decent kitchen with a full-sized fridge and freezer. The location is great. It's an easy 10 minute walk to Beale Street or just about anywhere else downtown. You get a freeeeee breakfast every morning. There's Starbucks coffee, cereals, eggs, sausage, yogurt, snack bars, and even Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwiches. If that's not good enough, there's an actual Starbucks just inside one of the entrances. For good value, I was very pleased. No complaints at all. read more

We were looking for a place that was close to the sights of Memphis, and yet not too close - this place is a great example of just that. Within easy walking distance of Beale Street, but not within earshot, this room was quiet and comfortable. The staff was polite and helpful, the room was clean and tidy, and the air conditioning worked - which is important in July, since the air in Memphis is so thick you could cut it with a knife. Other attractions are a bit farther away - if you are physically fit, you can easily make it to Sun Records or the Bass Pro Shop pyramid like we did. If you aren't and still have good balance, those rental scooters are literally EVERYWHERE in Memphis. There was a large screen TV in the room, which we put to good use while waiting to cool off a little. The hotel serves a good breakfast daily as well - I enjoyed the waffle maker too much. The hotel is also within reasonable walking distance of a number of restaurants, including the vaunted Rendezvous, which is famous for barbeque. We enjoyed our stay here, and if we return, we'll return without reservation. read more

We had a very pleasant stay at the Marriott Residence in Memphis. Reception was prompt. I was able to get directions for walking to various sites and on using the trolley. The Inn is convenient to many things: Beale St, the Civil Rights Museum both are walkable. The trolley makes it easy to get to the amazing Bass Pro Shop. Restaurants are also convenient walking distance, as is the Peabody--visit the ducks. Our room was one with an "upstairs" bedroom. Two steps up. An interesting design feature. Clean and appointed as one would expect for a Residence. Breakfast, likewise, was as expected. The breakfast seating area also opens to a Starbucks if interested. I'd willingly stay again. read more

If you are a fan of Residence Inn you will know that some of the properties throughout the years are retrofits into former buildings, this one is the same. In the place of a very old downtown building this retrofitted Residence Inn is so quaint and cute. My husband and I commented that we felt like we were in a New York style flat with Windows all around and a tight but very functional space that was clearly not a standard design for Marriott. We loved the location and the folks that ran the facility. read more

Great hotel if you enjoy the ceiling falling on you in bed and the smell of mold. I stayed in three different rooms during my three-month stay on insurance, and all showed signs of water damage. Front desk attendant Ima acted as if this is commonplace, with no offer of assistance in changing rooms to a long-term guest with many belongings. Yes, there's a rooftop patio (no bar, no tv anymore) and yes, the hotel is well-located as far as downtown Memphis with some of the staff being friendlier than usual, but the hotel falls absolutely flat on value, service, and amenities. Rooms are clean enough but noisy with soft, worn mattresses (the smallest "queen" size I've ever encountered) and poor design choices. Unless you're a child, don't expect to be comfortable using the sofa beds. Closets are useless, bathroom lighting is terrible, bathroom vents are inoperable, and the showers are very narrow, even for a slim person. Breakfast is on par with that of bad public schools--everything is prepackaged, even the waffles. Perhaps if they didn't allow every city employee in off the street to partake, they might save enough money to offer a suitable breakfast for this price point. Housekeeping is good, if you can get it. The hotel operates on a 24-hour notice for housekeeping. Even when given the notice, it's iffy whether or not you'll receive it when scheduled. You're more likely to receive a written note under your door from the housekeeping manager rather than any offer of assistance. Valet (at a whopping $29/night) is inefficient to say the least. The ramping area holds about four vehicles (for a nearly 100 room hotel) and is often clogged with people parking for the Starbucks or anywhere else really--there is zero management of this area. In fact my first experience at the hotel was of a full valet area, and, finding no other option than to double park, received a gruff "you in a bad spot" from valet Elmo, who I would come to learn is the most miserable and unhelpful employee at the hotel. Later, upon receiving my car from valet plastered with a booting notice sticker and paper ticket, Elmo's only response was, "don't ask me. I just get the car." Most helpful. With the number of transient individuals hanging around the exterior of the hotel panhandling, you'd expect at the very least an outdoor valet stand to exert some measure of control and safety at the entrance of the hotel. In the end, the hotel is way overpriced at $200+/night total but if you must stay, my best recommendations as a local are to schedule housekeeping before your arrival if you're staying for a short period, enjoy any of the fantastic local restaurants within walking distance for breakfast, request upper floor rooms ending in "03" as these are the only rooms that face north (away from street noise) and have no adjacent rooms, and to find alternate parking than the hotel valet. Pro tip: valet cars are parked in the First Place garage around the corner where you can self park for cheaper. Or better yet, take your chances on the street, where parking is free north of Monroe Ave. 6pm-8am Mon.-Sat. and all day Sunday, and where there is very little enforcement anytime--a very rare expired meter ticket being a cheaper-than-valet $21. read more

Could the folks that work here possibly be any nicer? From valet to check-in they treat you so very well and you can really tell that they enjoy their jobs..... The location is right in the center of it all so it's a great place to use as your hub. I stayed at the newer Courtyard during my last visit, but wanted to be more in the center during this trip. It's older than the Courtyard, but very clean and my suite is simply huge. Great peeps...phenomenal location....great price. You can't go wrong. read more

I really love this hotel and often advise out of town visitors to check it out before making final reservations anywhere else. It's right in the middle of downtown Memphis, just blocks from Beale Street, AutoZone Park, Court Square and the trolley line. They just renovated a few years ago, and the hotel looks fresh and modern on the inside. Notice I said modern and not contemporary. The rooms are spacious and the one that I stayed in had a little kitchenette. No need to use the kitchen to cook breakfast though as Residence Inn offers a free (and yummy) breakfast buffet for all guests. The lobbies are nice, and there are many conference rooms for business meetings and conventions. The staff is also very friendly, and there is valet service available. read more

This enjoyable chain location is an attractive well upgraded older historic hotel in the middle of the downtown area. Rooms are upgraded to generous sized loft layouts which nicely accommodate relaxing time away from the hubbub of life. But all this is not the highlight of this location. Simply put, the staff makes this place a five star standout. We would like to mention Ima & Roosevelt specifically, although there are others too. Roosevelt greeted us to help with our bags and vehicle. What an ultimate professional gentleman. Ima, at the front desk, represents the entire establishment with her classy personality. Her courteous professional attitude was refreshing as she was a wealth of helpful information about this place. She made us feel welcomed and important as hotel guests. Just Wow...we really like these folks. We'll be stopping here again when we come through Memphis. If you venture here and are looking for real plain and simple professional customer service ( just like in the olden days), stop in here and ask for Ima & Roosevelt. Big rooms, friendly staff, and a great rate for the area. Staff at front desk was awesome. Did not have any major issues with our stay, small issues were nothing to fuss about. Parking is the only bad part of this location, they do have Valet ( takes about 8 minutes to get your car), but actually parking when getting there was a bit of an issue ( all spaces full ). GPS brought me in wrong way twice, no fault of the hotel, just might want to check map before you leave. I would come back, and would recommend. It's not a 5 star hotel, and don't expect such, I was well pleased with what we paid, location, and quality of the facilities. read more

The maids slam these supply doors that are throughout the hallway all morning and it will constantly wake you up. Valet was incredibly rude to my wife when we were fixing a booking issue. Warning!!! This hotel was a nightmare! The Valet service is rude and unprofessional. The front service desk is an embarrassment...they are rarely at their desk, they give attitude instead of excepting responsibility for their short comings. The breakfast made me sick almost every morning, the elevators are filthy and all the amenities like laundry are broken or out of date. The staff needs a reality check and the manager needs to be fired for setting such low standards. I think I'll stick with IHG...holiday inn across the way is much more reliable hotel read more

This particular Residence Inn is quite close to everything in Memphis, Downtown. Walking distance to Mud Island, Beale Street, and the trolly is only a block away. When I visited here, April 2013, the place was under renovation and the suite we stayed at was worn and tired, but clean. Some issues with how they maintain the place, one of the two toilets were broken and not flushing, and even after telling the desk, nothing came of it. It's a good location, the staff was very nice, but unless you get one of the new rooms/suites, I'd avoid it. Be sure to ask what the vintage of the room is. read more

AAA discount (10%, I think). Breakfast buffet included. Easy walking distance to Beale street, Rendevous, Gus, and the Mississippi River. The guy at the front desk was hilarious! Made us laugh every time we entered or exited the hotel. Price was not bad either (about $127/night for 3 people with AAA discount). Free in-room high-speed internet. One odd thing we noticed--the windows in our 10th floor room did not have any screens or anything on them, so if you opened them up all the way, someone could fall out, if they were being careless. Twice, we have gotten a 2 br/2 ba suite with kitchenette and living room. 2 queen beds and a couch bed. Comfy beds & Lots of room for a family even at $300 a night, Solid value due to great location (walk to restaurants, bars, River Walk, TomLee riverside park, Peabody Hotel, Starbucks at 3d & Beale area, I-40 & 55, trolley, YMCA, FedEx Forum, Redbird Stadium Felt very safe, good service & valet parking is reasonable (drawback - no dedicated parking & street parking is tough) Recently renovated, formerly historic Memphis apartment building, decent breakfast 7am - 10am (they start pulling items at about 945 so do not be late!). It is an older building so lower your expectations and enjoy the space & location and don't look for luxury or style here. Good value, friendly & helpful service. read more

We absolutely loved staying in this hotel for marathon weekend, and we'll probably return to it the next time we're staying in Memphis. In the past, we have always stayed at the Peabody or the Marriott, and the quiet, restful environment of this hotel was really welcomed for all of us runners! We also appreciated the valet parking and the WONDERFUL effort the hotel made to accommodate all of us leaving early for the starting line: While typically they didn't serve breakfast on weekends until later, they had a lot of popular runner foods out early, like bananas, bagels and, of course, coffee. Very thoughtful! I also called the desk to ask if I could buy some tea varieties in their store because what I found in the room seemed to be only caffeinated choices, and we wanted some before going to bed the night before the race. The woman at the desk told me to just come down to the breakfast area and help myself to whatever varieties I wanted there. Again, very thoughtful! We loved our room! We had what I think is categorized as a "one bedroom," and has the bed/bath area separated and slightly raised from the living/kitching/dining area. It was very relaxing and comfy. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes and utensils for us. The Internet is not wireless, but wires are provided, and it's FREE. Two small things: The remote for the living room television didn't work at all, except to turn it on, and the phone in the living area didn't dial the pre-programmed numbers, so there was not way to call the desk from that phone. I didn't tell them about these issues, so I didn't give them an opportunity to fix them. This hotel is very well located for many downtown restaurants and activities, as it is super close to (but blessedly off of) Beale Street and very close to AutoZone Park, the Orpheum Theater, etc. There are also great restaurants nearby, including two of my favorites, McEwen's on Monroe and Automatic Slim's on 2nd. Rendezvous Barbecue is also very close. This is a GREAT place to stay in downtown Memphis. We loved it. Everyone was very friendly and helpful, and we were quite pleased with our stay! read more

I wanted to join them! Rooms - hotel is a bit older & so are the rooms. We stayed in a spacious loft unit. The sleeping area was 2 steps higher .. Pull out sofa, fully equipped kitchen .. Nice view on the 12th floor (rm 1206). Rooms are clean, towels r a little thin. 2 elevators ... No problems for us since it was not full. They have one of the best cocktail hours ... Other places usually shove us with chips, Chex mix, junk... These guys serve us sliders, nice mix salad & fruits . You don't even need to go to dinner. There's a rooftop lounge ... We never made it up there ! It's a 3 star hotel w/5 Stars service. read more

Great location!!! Only 3ish blocks to Beale, close enough to walk and far enough away to sleep :-) There is valet service so you can just pull up in front of the hotel. The kind valet also helped us to our rooms with luggage etc. The front desk staff was friendly and very helpful in getting us the best rate possible ($129 per night). Breakfast, happy hour, and wifi included. The rooms have a small kitchen which was really helpful for us. It makes such a difference to not have to eat out every meal. The shower is ok, but not the best in terms of luxury and water pressure. I would definitely stay here again. PET fee: $100 non-refundable one time fee for your stay. Ouch, this hurt. But, I could not find another hotel that would allow a dog in the room so I went for it since we were staying two nights. There is a park two blocks north and there is another that looks over the water about three blocks away. The down side is that the closest park has a small group of homeless and didn't feel quite as clean or safe as others I've been too. Still, it got the job done. There are tons of squirrels so if this makes your pet crazy go to the park closer to the water on Front St. read more

I have stayed in this hotel in the past and have enjoyed the hospitality of the staff. Likewise, during this stay, the staff were friendly and went out of the way to make our stay pleasant. My friend and I stayed in a two bedroom suite The bedrooms were spacious enough for our brief stay and the views were great. I avoided the whole valet parking mess by parking around the corner and ended up only paying $5, yes $5 bones for the weekend. Gotta love those automated parking lots. Anyways, the big bonus with this hotel is the nice hot tub on the roof. I really enjoyed soaking away the muscle pain from all the walking I did in this little city. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The building looks a little old/dated from the outside, but that image changes as soon as you walk in the door. The lobby and mezzanine where breakfast is served and where the gym is are nicely decorated and comfortable. The rooms are even better. I love the funky layout and the full kitchen is a definate plus. The bed is SO COMFY and there is plenty of storage space. The bathroom shows a little wear and tear if you look closely, but in the grand scheme of things even that is just fine. I was happy to see dumbells in the gym - most hotels seem to just have cardio machines. The machines themselves are just fine - not the latest and greatest but certainly better than some hotel gyms I've stayed at. I love that there are two treadmills - more of a chance to get one! Looking forward to staying here again in November! read more

The room was adorable!! If it were a studio apartment for rent, I'd be in heaven. The complimentary breakfast was way more than expected- eggs, yogurt, bagels, english muffins, toast, cereal, waffle maker.. not just your average crap complimentary breakfast. The staff was accomodating and really into making guests happy. The southern charm of a "yes, maam" always does the trick, too. If in Memphis, I'd recommend this hotel. read more

We came from Ca. Greeted by Ima and she was the epitome of Southern Hospitality. We also talked with Logan who works there. Ive never had so much "Good Mornings" and "hellos" from this staff. Room is clean,so clean,no stiff oder. Food is excellent,considering. Fresh,warm,variety. Coke machine available for self service was a plus,we dont drink coffee. I would HIGHLY recommend. I stayed here while I was in town for work a couple weeks ago. The place was decked out inside for the holidays! I loved the feel of the history in the building with the original wood framing, old-school elevators, and stair cases. The valet attendants looked out for me by giving me the skinny on the area and the best food within walking distance. The check-in receptionist, Alma, was gracious and upgraded me into a suite for no reason. It was super nice! It had a cute little loft area for the bed, full kitchen, dining area, two televisions, Chya! I worked out in the hotel gym which was tiny yet suitable for my needs. Apparently, guests receive a free pass to the gym next door which is huge by the way they explained it. All in all- not sure about the poor reviews. Service is really, really good. The front desk was polite and helpful. Valet was good as well. Room is blah. The room we got was a 'U' shape which had a bad chi to it. The room was super small you could barely get through the door. This hotel is WAY overpriced. The decor is outdated, there was a loud humming noise in our room, and there was a moldy scent. read more
