Their version of a roll-in shower.
    Peggy P.

Because my body is dealing with the effects of cancer treatments, it wasn't up to dealing with the high heat we'd been experiencing, so I decided to check in to a hotel for some A/C. I like the Courtyard in Monroeville, but it doesn't have a pool, so I opted for this hotel. BIG mistake! It started at check in. Stood at the counter for ten minutes waiting for someone to come check me in. I even yelled, "Is there anyone here?" and still no one came out. Finally, a man came out to check me in, then said, "I have to see if the room is ready" and left. I never saw him again. A lady came out and I had to start the whole check-in process all over again. Apparently, he'd told her to come out and help me but didn't say why. She was really nice, though. The man, not so much. I get into my room only to find it's not an accessible room. I was told that I wasn't in an accessible room because I didn't request one. I had. I'd requested it on the Marriott site when I made the reservation and also had sent a message to ensure an accessible room, to which I'd received a reply stating they'd received my request and would accommodate it. I had to change rooms. My new room was accessible, but didn't have the roll-in shower I was told it had. Apparently, their idea of a roll-in shower is a fold-down seat in the bathtub. You still have to be able to step over the tub to get to it. And the room was pretty beat up. The bathtub had rails, which I'd need without having a roll-in shower, but there's no nonslip surface on the tub to keep it from being slippery while showering. It proved quite challenging. I didn't take a shower the next night because I was too afraid of slipping on the tub. There's also no ice bucket. I was told I didn't need one because there were ice makers in the freezers. I told them there wasn't one in mine, but they insisted there was. At least they gave me a bag of ice, though. The light on the stove hood can't be turned off. There's a switch for it to turn it off, but it didn't work. So it was on all night every night, which was irritating while trying to sleep. The breakfast was a disaster, too. Both mornings, so I'm assuming that's the norm and not an exception. On the first day, I went down about 45 minutes before closing time. It closes at 9:30, which is a bit early, but still. I was down there at 8:45 and they were out of waffle batter mix and the lady said she wasn't replenishing it. There also weren't any pastries. I didn't need toast. I could make that in my room since it comes equipped with a toaster. And I didn't want to eat cereal (which I could have brought from home and eaten in my room, too), so I left without eating. The second day wasn't much better. I went downstairs earlier to make sure there'd still be food. The bananas were green, no yellow to be seen for miles. The pancake maker was out of order. And, again, the pastry bin was almost empty and there was no waffle batter. As for the swimming pool (the reason I booked this hotel instead of the Courtyard), it was closed for maintenance on the first day. Something about the water being too hot. The next evening it was open, but I still couldn't swim because there was a swim class (not by the hotel, but by an outside agency) giving swim lessons to the non-guests who came to the pool for the lessons. They told me at the front desk that I could still go swimming, but the pool is small and the kids in the swim classes were taking up the entire pool area. Not to mention all their parents had taken up all the seats surrounding the pool. Then I couldn't go swimming after the classes because the classes end at 8:00, which is when the hotel shuts the pool down (which is rather early for a hotel pool closure). I paid for two nights of a hotel with a swimming pool and couldn't go swimming either evening. I also have a charge on my bank account from the hotel, even though I hadn't bought anything. It went on my bank the day of discharge. I was told it would come off when I checked out of the hotel. All I have to say is - ??????? The only plus with the room is that the bed was comfortable. But I definitely will not be staying here again. I'm so upset that I wasted valuable Marriott Bonvoy points on this dump. It charges way more points than it's worth! Had I known then what I know now, I wouldn't have stayed here. It did me no good to choose it for the pool since I couldn't use the pool. I couldn't even get my receipt when I checked out because their system was down. Seemed appropriate since most everything else there wasn't working or was only barely working.

DO NOT STAY HERE. Terrible experience. No AC in our room during 100 degree temps outside. Management not accommodating at all. Brought us portable ac units to our room which then flooded our room. No attempt to rectify the situation. Would give ZERO STARS IF POSSIBLE.

Regardless of the circumstances with covid-19. This hotel and its guest services are horrible. Rooms were completely un clean, sticky furniture layers of dust everywhere. I had the room cleaned twice, even spoke to the manager regarding a popsicle stick on the floor by the window. Guest what, the room was clean and the stick still remained. No trash cans to be found however, plenty of receptacles for dog waste. No one was ever at the front desk throughout the day. Just sad, not even close to Marriott standards

Great place to stay in Pittsburgh area right outside the city. Extremely clean and large rooms. Would be a great place to stay if you were traveling for a work trip. Room included a full size fridge, oven, microwave and a large bathroom. Basketball court and gym on location. Planning another trip back to the burgh soon and will be staying here again

Looked at the bulk of reviews before booking and this place looks pretty good ratings wise. Big mistake. From now on I will narrow it to the reviews from the prior year or so, a much better snapshot of this hotel. Marriot is usually a sure bet in that at least it will be clean and kept up. This hotel is not. The carpeting in the room (and all over the hotel) is stained. The bedding was stained and gross. Many things were not maintained and in various states of disrepair. The safe didn't work. I could go on. The icing on the cake was the bathroom ceiling dripping on my head. Not sure if it was a burst pipe or sewage dripping from above or what exactly. (see photo) I was told there was no maintenance person on site. We were concerned the ceiling might get worse or collapse so I asked to be given another room. In sum this hotel is wayyy off Marriott's usual standards (especially for almost 300 a night, absolutely ridiculous!) so if you're expecting that don't stay here. They took 100 dollars off our bill but I don't think that's good enough. I rarely get a chance to get a break from life and the last thing you want to deal with is this kind of crap. I'm really disappointed in Marriot and I'll definitely think of other hotels first in the future.

I stayed here one night because I thought the trendy Bloomfield neighborhood would provide a nice change-of-pace from the more established downtown area. I was also planning to drive to upstate New York and thought this would be a convenient location for a faster getaway. Well, a sudden winter snowstorm forced me to cancel the side trip to New York, and I ended up spending very little time exploring Bloomfield because I took a long nap in my room after a sleepless night in the previous hotel. Even though it was bordering on pointless to shift to this hotel, I still enjoyed the studio I reserved for $152. There was a comfortable king bed, a fully equipped kitchen, a corner sofa, and a 360-degree swivel flatscreen TV. It was a lot of amenities I didn't need, but hey, it was freezing cold, so the apartment set-up made it feel cozy. One other advantage was a sizable lot to park my rental SUV. Even though they offered a happy hour and continental breakfast, I skipped both. Instead I braved the cold and just strolled on Baum to find a decent greasy spoon for dinner and a quiet gay bar for a drink. Not a bad stay, and I'd consider a return to explore Bloomfield. The parking is pricey. I absolutely hate paying for parking. I wish this came with the hotel stay as it was also already priced on the higher end. Overall, I would definitely stay here again. I would probably pick a day that didn't fall on a holiday weekend for a less expensive stay.

This past weekend (checking in Friday, June 12; checking out Sunday, June 14) was the end. When I checked in, another guest was at the front desk requesting a fan. The person checking me in seemed involved with that, so they didn't seem concerned with filling me in. It turned out, however, that the air-conditioning was broken for the entire hotel. After around a half-hour, I really started to notice the heat and humidity in my room. My wife was arriving later (after a difficult air-travel day), so I went back to the front counter to inquire about the AC. This time, there was one couple checking in with the person I had spoken to. and that couple was given extensive detail about the AC issue. When it was my turn, I noted that I had just checked in and got none of that detail. She told me then that there was no way of knowing when the AC would be fixed, but if it wasn't fixed by 6 p.m., there would be a discount; or, if we chose to leave, there would be no charge. Something, at least. A little while later, the AC kicked on. Excellent! I set the AC as low as possible to cool things off. The AC was actually set to 62 degrees from Friday evening to Sunday morning. Despite that, the coolest it got was 68 degrees on Sunday morning. Midway through the day on Saturday afternoon, it was around 77 as we were trying to get dressed for a wedding. (There were actually two wedding parties staying at the hotel for the weekend, all dealing with poor AC at a supposedly "luxury" hotel). We called back to the front desk about 1 p.m. Saturday, and they expressed shock that our room was not cooler because the AC had been fixed. A few minutes after our call, the room began to cool to a reasonable temp (though, again, never anywhere near the actual temp it was set to). My wife decided the hotel was intentionally turning off the AC to try to save money. I decided that they weren't being intentionally malevolent, but rather they were just inept. Either way, the hotel absolutely failed to live up to what it had once been. We won't be recommending or returning again. Also of note: - The hotel website notes its Spirits and Tales restaurant is open for lunch on Saturday and Sunday. But don't be fooled into thinking that means you can order lunch on Saturday; they only have their brunch menu (which is almost identical to their breakfast menu. The salads and sandwiches on their lunch menu are not available.) That said, at least we could get into the restaurant this time. On a previous stay, we arrived to discover the entire restaurant and bar had been booked by another party, so we had to go elsewhere for a drink. - The hotel's other restaurant, Cork and Crust, is also not open for lunch on Saturday or Sunday. So if you do want lunch on the weekend, don't expect to get it at this hotel. (The pizza I purchased Friday night was fine; I wasn't a big fan of the non-traditional Margherita pizza (with pesto and slices of garlic), but I'm picky about pizza.) - The carpet in our room was fraying. The mini-bar refrigerator was empty. - Apparently, the hotel was used as an overflow space for students from the University of Pittsburgh in recent times. That may explain why things are a little worn. But the idea that I'm paying luxury hotel prices for a glorified dormitory is a little much for me. The one positive is the man working the desk downstairs at the Lower Lobby. He's been there for a number of years, and he always remembers my wife and I (even if it's been a while since we were last there). He's kind, friendly, and helpful. The parking valets are always fast and friendly too, but the main guy at the desk really does an excellent job.

The hallways were incredible! And still had their old charm! I even picked up the old fashioned telephone and it rings the front desk! You can use it shall you need something ... if for some reason you cannot enter your room, just pick up the black phone in the hallway and they will come to you (this didn't happen to me, but just a tip if it does). It is not good for the speakeasy ... and yes, it's a real speakeasy that existed in the 1920s you could access thru tunnels under the city! So cool! On checkout day, the event I attended was going to start early and finish after checkout time. Since I was up late the night before, the front desk said I was welcome to bring my bags down now for bellhop to hold, but they also put me for a late checkout at 1pm so I could come down late the next day too. So partway thru the event just before 1pm I brought down my bags and they held them for the next 90 mins I was there. I parked across the street at the Mellon square parking garage ... Apple GPS marks the garage in the wrong place FYI ... it marks it about a block away but it is directly across the street from the hotel, with the entrance to it being on the cross street. I paid $44 to park there from Thursday around 5pm to Sunday around 3pm. Not bad. They do have valet parking at the hotel too but that is $55 per day I believe. Leaving was sad. I would have liked more time to enjoy this place. I would love to come back sometime! I have nothing bad to say about this place. Wonderful staff and incredible hotel! AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING SERVICE AND STAFF…read more I came to Pittsburgh for a wedding and ended up at this hotel because my travel partner booked the wrong hotel location (there are two hotel indigos in Pittsburgh). We ended up being 20 minutes driving from the venue instead of 10 minutes walking distance. I was already in a pretty terrible mood. Then, we landed and came in contact with the cyber security issue and everyone's systems were down. This could've made this hotel staff in a bitter mood dealing with angry guests. Instead, they were the NICEST people I have ever come in contact with in a hotel environment; so understanding, helpful, kind, and patient. The room was extremely simple; there is no microwave, no mini fridge, so do not expect to have leftovers for the next day. Breakfast is also not included with the room, which was a bummer. Because of the lack of amenities, this hotel receives 4 stars. We called for support from the front desk twice because our TV was being finicky and we were short on towels (cyber security made us extend our stay, which again, the staff were SO helpful with) and someone was up to our room in less than 5 minutes with help, what we needed, and a smile. The same staff were there my whole stay and were so personable when we arrived and left every time. A couple times, I even made mistakes with checking in or out, asking silly questions, etc. and they never made me feel at fault. We've had great experiences with other Hotel Indigos and we were willing to stay a bit outside of the city to stay at this trusting brand, but we were very sorry we did. While the hotel appears decent on the exterior the rooms are anything but clean. Our trip started with arriving to what appeared to be an okay room. The room/hall had a vague scent of mold but that as the least of our worries. When I went to put my water bottle in the fridge I noticed there was a McChicken from a previous guest. The fridge also smelled so it seemed like it hadn't been cleaned in a while. Upon further inspection the room had multiple stains on our bedding as seen below. I travel often and I have never been in a hotel room so dirty. The floor had clearly not been swept in between guests as evidenced from a penny and some crumbs found near the trash can. In addition to the dirty interior the bathroom and shower were not cleaned. The shower had hair from a guest that was neither myself or my traveling partner. There were also cracks in the walls throughout the bathroom. In addition to the disgusting room the hotel also employs one person for the Valet. The lines to get your car were consistently long and for $32 per night it really didn't seem worth it. If this were a cheap hotel I would simply say you get what you pay for but it's not. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. While the area surrounding the hotel is decent, the hotel itself is not worth it. You can pay a similar amount for a hotel in a more central location with better cleanliness. The only reason the review is 2 stars instead of 1 is because the AC worked very well and we were visiting during a heat wave. Overall, we will not be returning to this Hotel Indigo.
