1 Star - Worst hotel experience I've ever had I would strongly advise anyone to avoid staying here. We had a confirmed extended stay reservation from March 27 through April 22. At check-in, there was confusion with our reservation, and we were told we could pay daily until the following Monday and then switch to weekly payments. The very next morning (March 28), we were told the hotel was sold out, that our room had been given to another guest, and that we had to leave immediately. We were also told we did NOT have a reservation anymore and that the only way to stay would be to pay for a full week on the spot. So we packed up and left as instructed. Later, we discovered our reservation was STILL ACTIVE under our name the entire time through April 22. When we eventually returned, they placed us back into the exact same room -- clearly because our reservation had never actually been canceled. The room had not been touched the entire time we were gone. The bed was still unmade, there were dishes left out, towels on the floor, and everything was exactly as we had left it. We had been forced to leave so suddenly that we didn't even have time to clean up or do dishes -- and it was obvious no one had entered or serviced the room at all during those 9 days. Because of their mistake, we were forced to scramble for last-minute accommodations during a time when nothing was available. We had to: - Pay hundreds per night for other hotels - Travel out of state just to find a place to stay - Leave a hotel due to unacceptable conditions - Sleep at a truck stop temporarily - Stay in an Airbnb where we literally slept on massage tables All of this could have been avoided if the hotel had handled our reservation correctly. It gets worse. While we were gone for 9 days -- and they apparently thought we were still checked in -- they never charged our card once. But as soon as we returned, they suddenly attempted to run our card multiple times without resolving anything. We also asked to speak with a manager, and no one ever came to talk to us. Now, after all of this, we are once again being told to leave. This has been a complete failure in management, communication, and basic customer service. We planned our entire stay around this extended stay hotel (including groceries and budgeting), and their mistakes caused significant financial loss and stress. We are now pursuing this through corporate, the Better Business Bureau, and our bank. Stay somewhere else. This place is completely disorganized and does not stand behind its reservations. read more

Located on the South-side of The Empire Mall, it shares a parking lot with the Fairfield Marriott, acting almost as the South-side bookend of the mall with the new pair of Springhill Suites and Courtyard Marriott on the North-side of the mall. The Residence Inn is an older property and while it's seen cosmetic renovations it's clear that no major work has been done in years. Parking lot is small and cramped, but very well-lit, which is good peace of mind in this higher traffic area. Expect banged up walls, doors, patched ceilings and threadbare furniture and carpet. While the building is tired, the staff makes up for it in spades. Expect friendly and welcoming front desk and breakfast staff. They truly are the gem of this property. Given the overall decline of The Empire Mall, I wouldn't be surprised if this and the Fairfield across the parking lot close with the Marriott operator here prioritizing the newer (and more upmarket) Springhill Suites and Courtyard just to the North. read more

Very comfortable and quiet. I was concerned that traffic noise would be a problem but it wasn't. Our king suite was clean and had everything we needed. I requested a room with grab bars for the shower. The shower head was very tall and out of reach for me to adjust. It had both handheld and standard shower heads, but I couldn't figure how how to detach it. Bookguy was happy with the tall spray. I appreciated the bottles of shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner attached to the wall. Unfortunately, without glasses in the shower curtain-dimmed light, I couldn't tell which was shampoo and which was shower gel. Soap is soap, I guess. The room had a nice closet for storage and a phone in the bathroom-- nice safety feature. Oddly, one dining chair in our room had a shredded back. Breakfast was standard with scrambled eggs, sausage, bagels, oatmeal, juices and more, but they must have been slammed to start because there was no coffee left by 7:30. A quiet word soon remedied that and I got my coffee fix. All in all it was a pleasant, comfortable stay and we would stay there again if need arises. read more

Nice hotel, good amenities, nice people, breakfast was decent, location was pretty good for the zoo, which is why we were there.

I liked the layout of the room and the beds were comfortable but it was outdated and there was black mold in the bathtub and dried vomit behind the toilet. The blackout shades on the windows were shredded and useless and there were brown stains on the linens. The carpet was really stained. read more

Normally a Residence Inn get's 4 stars, but this location - not so much! For starters - I expect that water would be available to all guests - or at least guests that have my status - but nope - though I must admit - they gave me some when I asked - but it should have been out and available - as I don't like orange or apple juice with breakfast - too high in carbs! We were completely pleased with our stay here recently, and it didn't hurt that when we checked in, I was "Guest of the Day" for the hotel! I received a gift bag with snacks and fancy soaps, etc. We initially had reserved a room at another hotel in Sioux Falls that we found on a pet-friendly Website, but my sister was also going to be in town, and she prefers this hotel to any other. She called the desk to find out about the pet policy. They said they charged something like $75 extra for pets, but they lowered it to $30 when she asked. (I actually am not sure if this is per night or for the length of stay. It does seem high, either way, so try to get it lowered if you want to stay here with a dog.) The Internet is free and you can have more than one laptop in the room on the account. We were satisfied with every aspect of the hotel, the location (basically on the "campus" of the Empire Mall, but with good freeway access, etc.), the quality of the room, the furnishings and supplies in the room, including a range of dishware and utensils, the comfort of the room, etc. The breakfast is good, with the usual hot and cold offerings. We will definitely stay here again, but we will ask for a reduced rate for our dog! read more

This Residence Inn really needs a major facelift compared to other Marriott Residence Inns. The rooms are still standard in design but the exterior look and location near the failing Empire Mall and empty Toys R Us building doesn't help the aesthetics of this hotel. The breakfast area is small and the lobby and exercise room is very outdated. If you patronize Marriott brand, I would suggest the Springhill by 41st street, I'm the same Empire mall property. read more

This was the best hotel I've stayed at in a long time. They gave a discounted rate to my party, since we had a number of people staying there for a funeral over the weekend. That put my "studio suite" at $89 a night. We had a king-sized bed, an ample-sized seating area, a kitchenette complete with dishes, silverware, glasses, a full-sized (clean!) fridge, pots, and a stove top. The light fixture on either side of the bed had outlet plugs in them - such a win. No more pulling furniture away from the wall, trying to find a free plug! The wifi was free and worked seamlessly, both in our room and in the lobby. The free breakfast included pancakes, eggs, sausage, potatoes on Saturday, as well as hot oatmeal, cold cereal, waffle mix, yogurt and fruit, hard boiled eggs, more than one kind of milk, bagels/muffins...get the picture? You won't go hungry. There are coffee stations in the lobby 24-7, along with a big tea selection and ice water. There's also a decent array of snacks/soda to purchase in the lobby. Prices are a bit high but when you need your Cheeto fix, it doesn't matter, right? The Empire Mall is walkable from the hotel and I-29 is nearby. read more

Just returned home after 3 days and 2 nights at the Residence Inn of Sioux Falls. I decided to rate my stay 3 stars, but do not mistake that as me being disappointed or having a lot of criticisms. The 2 bedroom suite was awesome and fit my family's needs perfectly. The room was fairly clean and had a lot of nice amenities like 2 king beds, 2 bathrooms (thank goodness), 3 televisions, a nice kitchen, and free internet. The beds were comfy, the linens clean, the living room was comfortable & cozy, and it served it's purpose of being our home away from home quite nicely. The facility felt secure, had good parking, and the breakfast buffet was really good. On the other hand the room was due for some maintenance and paint, the pool was smallish and a bit crowded, the free internet was not very fast (they wanted more $ for faster internet) and our upstairs neighbors were a bit noisy. Not that they were trying to be, it was just the age of the building and hollow feeling doors. Our main door had a broken secondary lock and we had to replace our key cards several times. Including pretty much every time we came back to the hotel. This was not our first time here and won't be our last. We just hope an update or basic remodel is in their future plans. read more

Loved this hotel. We're moving from DC to Seattle and stopped here overnight. Victoria helped with my reservation and was supremely helpful by making sure arrangements were perfect for me, husband, twin toddlers, our pets and my parents and their cat. Quite the menagerie so we truly appreciated everyone going the extra mile. Everything be was ready for us when we arrived and everyone was kind and simply wonderful. Breakfast was fantastic, with lots of variety. We cannot thank them enough and would definitely recommend this location. read more

Quite possibly the most accommodating hotel I've ever stayed in! They allowed the parents of our baseball team to stay up in their lobby/breakfast bar area. We weren't exactly quiet and they never made us feel unwelcome. The housekeepers would leave sweet notes for us every morning. The spacious, modern rooms were perfect for a traveling family of four. The kids loved the basketball court and the pool. I would give this place 10 stars if I could! Thanks for having us! read more

We stayed in room 114 and unfortunately we could hear the people walking around in the room above us, floor was squeaking and creeking with every step. We normally do enjoy staying at Residence Inn's, the room was nice and what you would expect but to noisy because of squeaking floors above us! read more

While traveling across the country we stopped in the great city of Sioux Falls and really loved our stay at the residence inn. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! The service was great. Cassie at the front desk was kind and helpful and even mailed me the necklace that I left behind! We received treats upon are arrival and were given a map to tour downtown. The room was comfortable and clean and the people were welcoming. Great stay and can't thank Cassie enough for finding my necklace. read more

Had a wonderful but quick stay. The cable was a little sketchy but everything else was just what you would expect from an extended stay. The location was convenient and it was right behind a mall with a variety of restaurants to choose from. Not to mention the complimentary breakfast with make your own waffles is definitely a plus! read more

Stayed because it was pet friendly (only six weeks old and was in crate). Front desk never said anything about pet or charges. First, received bill morning of check-out with one price but later credit card was charged with additional charges because of pet. They even charge tax for pet. We asked for further investigation. Received no offer to lower pet charges. Would not recommend. Very disappointing with Marriott! read more

My room was upgraded which was a pleasant surprise but it was very noisy. We were on the first floor and heard every squeak and groan from the people walking upstairs. I used the laundry facilities which were totally mislabeled. Everything was labeled at $1.25 and $1.50 but all I needed was 25 cents. read more
