I am excited to have a primary care that finally sees and hears me. Dr. Many will see you as a person! The office is also very inviting, the staff is very personable and accommodating and very nice! Highly recommended!

South Island Medical Associates of Rockaway Beach…read moreyou'll be a cash cow Normally I don't review Doctor offices but this one irks me so much as far as the top of the crappy clinic. OK so what exactly is bad with South Island Medical? First, they treat you as a cash cow. I came in and gave my complete medical history to include my cardiologist info. So they knew I am under a care of several specialist --I just needed a family practice doctor in my neighborhood. So they took a blood test and performed an EKG on me. Why? I just came from my cardiologist and I told them that. Fast forward --the insurance company denied the payment (of course because they know those test were done by my cardiologist). So now I got a bill from them. Second, Dr. Carrera (who is a very nice and competent doctor) wrote me prescription for 30 days with no refills so I need to return to the office and pay more to get a refill. This prescription is a medicine I need to take for the rest of my life, every day since I no longer have a Thyroid gland. I was a 9/11 rescue worker and lost my thyroid in 2005. In 2005 I also received an angioplasty with three stents placement. In 2014, I had a vocal cord cancer and another three stents. As you can see, I rely heavily on prescriptions and doctors to keep me going. Wait you may say... is it possible he would just give a refill without seeing me or charging me for a visit? OK, you be the judge. I came to the office and wrote a note for him (he was not in) that I need a prescription for the local CVS to get vaccination for Shingles. I will turn 60 years and would like to avoid getting shingles in my old age. I waited two days and the local CVS was not contacted by the doctor. Lo and behold, I received a voicemail from the doctor and basically the voicemail indicated that he wanted to discuss this issue with me. So another office visit and another payment. The front office personnel tried to be friendly but they don't really care much for the patients. From setting up the tv for patients to watch (sometimes you'd be watching the FIOS screen saver for hours) to sending test results. My wife waited for her blood test results for weeks and she was told they didn't have a stamp to mail it. Of course with today's technology, they can login to Quest, save the blood test result in PDF file and simply email it. No way, too much work for them, they simply don't care. All in all, with some little changes, this medical group may flourish to be a great place for patients. An overhaul of attitude and personnel of the front office is mandatory to be reviewed. Next, doctors need to be told to only perform test that is covered by the patient insurance. If not, the patient needs to be informed that a test they are about to perform is not covered and that the patient will be billed. Be fair to the patients, don't treat them as a cash cow. Every now and then when they just need a refil, give it to them, what is the big deal if this is a medicine the patient need regularly. If I ran out of my Plavix, I usually just email my cardiologist (who is the director at Lenox Hill Hospital) and he just sends it to the local pharmacy. I do not get nickled and dimed. Lacking all this, a one star rating is excessive for this horrible office.

I had a relative there for short term rehab and cannot say enough good things about this facility !…read moreThe nursing care was fantastic and the rehab was everything we hoped for. We where reluctant about a place in the Rockaways at first but Ocean Promenade is a find in that area. They even offered transportation to the facility to my Aunt who doesn't drive. Thanks to all the great staff !

Great staff??????? Weekend nursing supervisor can barely understand when spoken to (in English by…read morethe way) and I had to repeat myself twice at least. Most of the time I call during the day trying to reach nurse or someone on the floor, I have to wait at least 20-30 minutes and call back repeatedly sometimes to get to anyone. Place is out in Rockaways and not easy to get to if you do not drive, not like I can hop on the train after work and be there in 10-15 min. My parent has been there for almost a year now and unless they need something, their social worker does not even return phone calls, but if tables turn and they have to get signature or something from me, they will bombard me with the phone calls and messages. No one ever returns calls either that or messages do not get to people they should be getting to....Place sucks, smells terrible and they had stomach virus quarantine back in December 2012, but no visible announcements to visitors - I was sick for a week after a visit with a parent. Could have at least provided a mask and gloves or something to visitors - nada.
