Main course was also great - I had a beautiful plate of 3 grilled scallops, 4 grilled shrimp and a few gorgeous tortellini. I think my husband had lamb, which looked great. I didn't pay too much attention to what our friends ate, since I was so occupied by my plate, and so surprised to actually be eating food of that level in Sachsenhausen! Kids had a modified pasta dish and a steak. Our 4 adults ate three courses (with just one main course for each of two kids), each had an aperitif, split one bottle of wine (or was it two???), and had coffee for about 300 euros. I'd also say Sorriso was a place you can take business guests, or host a family event. We'll be adding this to our list of regular go-to restaurants. For people in the neighborhood: We were huge supporters of Paulo's - a restaurant previously at this location, but found that the succeeding restaurants really did not fit our style. The quality of the food at Sorriso now surpasses all restaurants there in the past 10 years, and is probably better than most restaurants now in Sachsenhasen.

After about 15 minutes when she came out to take another order, I asked about our coffee, and she said it was on the way.. When the coffee finally came it was great, Lavazza, but we decided not to order cake because we didn't want to sit there another hour. I actually asked to pay which also took another 10 minutes. So I can't really talk about the food or the cake, but the coffee was excellent. If you have time and are looking for a fun place to people watch this is it. And last, but not least I just want to mention one more thing. In Germany, a tip is not expected, but you give it when the service is good. Usually people round up to the nearest Euro, or maybe to the next. My mom ended up paying, and rounded up an extra, I hopped in and said to add an extra Euro, because I thought maybe the waitress was having a bad day, the service was certainly not great. . But the waitress got snippy and said she didn't have change for that, threw the ten Euro change bill on the table, and walked away. Maybe they prefer you pay with card?

I went there with my tiny family (wife and son), when we visited our parents. A trip to the white turnip (the donjon is painted white, as it has always(!) been; funny) seemed to be a great idea due to the perfectly nice weather and my junior got hungry when we arrived there, of course. A great opportunity to check out the tavern. As we were told the former innkeeper quit and a couple from the area took over the restaurant - including renovation, update of the menu and lowering of prices. I am so glad I lived long enough to see that happen! The tavern presents itself in unobtrusive colours and is very down-to-earth/rustic; understandable, as this is the former house of the commanding officer of this castle (we participated in the guided tour there, so be aware of spoilers^^). The food was very down-home and is nearly exclusively made of fresh ingredients from the area; I personally can highly recommend the home made ramson-spaetzle! It was delicious and the little one sat in one of the available child seats and ate like a big one. The portions were completely adequate and cheap compared to what you receive - our family wallet was happy. I love that this is a non-smoking restaurant, what to me as a person is totally important. Smokers can smoke outside, if they want to! They had traditional Frankfurter Grie Soß, with warm potatoes and the delicious contrast of the cool, herb-flavored, quark-based sauce. This is a traditional Frankfurt Easter dish, so don't expect to see this any other time. The ownership changed a couple of years ago, so if you came here before that, I urge you to come back and try it again!
