I'm from Ste-Dorothée and this place has been around for a while, but I had never tried it before last Christmas Day; Boyfriend & I picked up combo # 1 (I think) for dinner. Very long wait (2 hours) for our order to be ready, but I'm sure that's normal for Christmas. Food was OK; won ton soup was good, but the general Tao chicken was a bit too spicy hot for me. Ordered takeout from this place for the first time - we sampled a variety of dishes, the yang chow fried rice, chicken fried rice, general tao chicken, orange ginger beef, shanghai noodles, spring rolls and spareribs. The food was tasty and just OK - portion is standard, not the most generous I've seen for a chinese restaurant. I was disappointed with the yang chow fried rice - this is supposed to be white in color, not drenched in soy sauce giving it that brown color. I feel like the dish was too americanized. Plus traditionally this dish has both shrimp and ham as a protein but there was almost no ham. The shanghai noodles are those big round greasy noodles kind of like bloated shaghetti - the portion was big but half of the dish was filled with cabbage or onions, not enough noodles and pork. The beef and chicken dishes came with sauce on the side - this is clever so you don't end up getting soggy general tao back home and can control how much sauce you want coated on your food. The menu has about 200 items on it, there is something for everyone I'm sure but I didn't taste anything that truly stood out. In terms of variety, pricing and portion - the offerings are fair. I would be curious to try again but I am still on the lookout for excellent and affordable chinese food on the north shore. read more

One of my Best and favourite Chinese restaurants in the area!!! This is my favourite gem ! There's no other restaurant that comes close to how good this place is! I hesitated A LOT to write this review as the place is always insanely jammed with orders every day/time! They're super busy and it's so hard to get your order through. However, I want to be honest and share how much I appreciate this place! The menu is TO DIE FOR!!! They've got everything and more!!! I come here regularly over the years. This time we had some pineapple chicken, fried wontons, crispy spinach, chop suey beef and broccoli.. other times we had the garlic eggplant dish Mouthwatering!!! We also had shrimp in lobster sauce. This place has become a staple in the laval area. It's delicious, it's consistent always delicious food and the price is pretty reasonable ish lol. You get big size portions very generous Service: one thing I wish is for them to be more timely with their ETA .. they're not always on time but I believe it is definitely worth the wait! Was in the mood for some Chinese food and I heard great things about this place. I ordered ahead and was told it would be 35 minute wait . I showed up about 40 minutes later and still had to wait another 15 minutes There is tons of car parking and there is a bus stop just down the street. Here was my order Fried wontons. Traditional appetizer that was done correct but forgot the red sauce that supposed to come with it. Was cooked right with just the right crunch to it. Beef and broccoli This was a big disappointment the beef was overcooked and very chewy. The broccoli was was in big chunks and had a burnt taste. The sauce was very water with no flavor. Vegetable chop suey This dish should be a no brainer but you could taste chop suey. However you had a after taste of burnt on your tongue. Orange beef. This dish was ok but nothing to brag about. We did have some pieces that the breading was not fully cooked. The orange sauce was packed in a separate container. Which was a nice plus's Shrimp and lobster sauce. The shrimps were still a bit cold in the middle which might suggest they use frozen shrimp. The shrimps had a very strong fish smell. The sauce was extremely watery. We decided not to eat the dish and to just put it aside. We heard great things about this place but we were very disappointed in the food. read more

Pros : - The spring rolls were well presented, very tasty and accompanied with an awesome homemade sweet sauce. - The Hunan peanut butter dumplings are different from what I'm used to but are actually very good as well with a homemade peanut butter sauce that made me almost lick the plate clean. :) - The garlic spareribs are incredibly good! They are bigger than the norm, so more delightful meat to chew on with a succulent sweet sauce that I enjoy pouring with a spoon on top of my rice. - Speaking of rice, the rice balls are huge! Very good. - Ken Ching is a beautiful resto, aesthetically pleasing and clean. The design and wall painting are a nice touch. - The service all night long was quick and efficient. - The garlic noodles were very good, the plate was HUGE! Most plates easily accommodate 3-4 people. - The price-tag is decent. Cons : - While the General Tao was above average I can't help but feel disappointment by it. This dish should be killer, the thing that keeps customers coming back.... what I got was something that lacked that flavor or OOMPH to take it to the next level. - We were seated where an air vent was situated right over our heads. We were told to change seats but not table when there were plenty of other tables to spare. So we ate with our jackets on. We usually enjoy the food , if the restaurant is not crowded . Got a very terrible service this Saturday. 2 server running all over the place. Food was mediocre, many errors in orders. What was strange is that the server told a group sitting next to our table to leave if they found the service to be slow. . From the many dishes we took, salt and pepper calamari was very good, the shrimp in lobsters sauce was also delicious, the kids enjoyed the wonton soup and the shrimp on toast. Generous portions and very good price overall. I will come back ( one more chance for redemption )but not if crowded and maybe an early dinner or lunch when we usually have a better experience overall. read more

I was not sure if I should give it a 4 star or a 3 star. If I was rating it for Laval it would be a 5 star as there is nothing else decent when it comes to chinese food. But in the real world of chinese food its really a 2 star. So I gave it a 3 star as it's just OK. If you do not want to go into the city I would recommend this place as the food is ok. Your typical General Tao(No such dish in china), fried noodles etc... very canadianized food. For those who really want good chinese food go to Toronto or china. Montreal......forget it!! After sampling a couple of their plates, I immediately started to feel an alien-like presence in my stomach. It's now 5 hours later and I'm laying in bed praying for a quick death for the suffering to end. I wouldn't say it's food poisoning judging from the symptoms, but there's definitely something in there that disagreed with my system (msg, poor quality meat, fat, weird sauce...??). Let this review serve as my obituary if I don't make it through the night.... Needless to say I will not be retuning there. read more

Mediocre at best. Over priced. I had takeout but noticed the dining room had leaks from the ceiling in 3 different places.

Usually I spend around 80$ a week @ ken ching. Either by ordering for delivery or pickup, and sometimes more by going there with my family. Tonight I dropped there @ 9:35 pm. Doors were still open, and closing time is 10 p.m as it is announced. The server rose his hands up saying we're closed. He didn't answer my hello, and I did not want to make a fuss. i wanted to order a take out that usually costs 50$, and takes 10 mns to prepare. This particular sever has no manners whatsoever, and is the only one that is rude in this restaurant. Either he thinks he is doing customers a favor, or is not meant to work with the public. Unfortunately, most of the time I fall on him. And tonight I have had it. I shall not go to, or order from, this restaurant any more, and should I mention that no matter what I was tipping this guy 20% each and every time I went there. read more
