I learned about Restaurant Ludwigs from Google review and Yelp. When I saw they have apple strudel with vanilla sauce, I convinced my husband we should go. It was kind of a warm day so we opted to sit inside. We were famished after a whole day of castle hopping (we visited Neuschwanstein Castle and Hohenschwangau Castle) so we were ready to eat. I've never had cordon bleu made with pork before and I must say it's the best one I've had. My husband ordered vegan ravioli which he also enjoyed. For dessert, we each got an apfelstrudel mit Vanillesoße. It was alright - definitely not comparable to Vienna's. Our waiter (we didn't get his name but I think he manages the place) was awesome. He made us comfortable and checked in just like someone would when someone's visiting his house. We truly appreciated his genuine hospitality. Ludwigs had some good German standards at a little above normal prices - to be expected in the tourist trap town of Fussen. I had some poached Munchner Weiss Wurst and fries. One daughter had some cheese spaetzle with onions which was actually better than my Mom's. (Mom uses Swiss which I don't care for - sorry Mom). The other had some schnitzel and regular spaetzle. My son had a kid's hamburger and I can't recall what my wife ordered, something vegetarian-friendly. Service was pretty decent on a busy night and despite some earlier reviews they do accept credit card at this point. We ate at the Bavarian resturant in this hotel and had the schweinshaxe (pork knuckles) and maultasche (a kind of stuffed pasta). They were both very large - enough for 2 people each. I found the pork knuckles hard to get into. The skin was hard and meat on the chewy side. It tasted pretty good after I was able to wrestle some of the meat off with the small knife and fork that was provided. I'm thinking no more schweinshaxe for me. read more

Disappointing service. We were there on 24 Dec 21 for dinner, base on the recommendation of our hotel manager we made reservation for 7pm. When we arrived table was not ready, correct settings were not set, drink spillage from previous guest was not cleaned up. We did not mind waiting, we reminded a few times while waiting, they reluctantly set up the correct settings after a long while, but just refused to clean up the spillage. Food was average, steak came out incorrectly cook to the doneness we ordered and had a tinge of detergent taste, so we felt it was contaminated. We fed this back to the waiter, who took the steak back to the kitchen. Later he came back out and started arguing and insisting the steak was good and wanted us to pay for it. We responded by letting him know it was up to him to decide if he wanted to bill us, but if he decide to bill us he needs to return the piece of contaminated steak to us and we like to take it away with us. After many minutes, he came back out and said the steak was already trashed and he will not bill us. A very suspicious behaviour. We were the only Asian customer that evening, we felt the service was discriminating. read more

As we wandered the tourist shopping district hunger overtook us. There is plenty of gelato and sweet treats to be found but we needed food. Of the street side cafes and restaurants, there were few tables to be found on this busy afternoon. We grabbed one of these table but there only appeared to be one server. We wanted something quick so we had to get her attention. She finally came to us and we ordered immediately. The food appeared quickly. It was very good and just what we wanted. When it was time to go, again it took several minutes to get a check at which point we were informed this is a cash only restaurant. It is located right in the middle of the main pedestrian walking street in Fussen Germany. Great people watching from the streetside table we sat at. The menu is very expansive and you can get lost trying to figure out what to eat LOL... I had the seasoned pan seared pork chops covered with French fried onion rings over a bed of their homemade cheese noodles. It was topped with a tasty cream sauce and served on a cast iron skillet. It was amazing. It was more than one can eat for sure. The food came out much quicker than we anticipated even though they were full. You can dine inside or outside. read more

We wandered about town trying to find a posted menu in English and came across Ludwigs. I ordered the cabbage/bacon pasta on their "Bavaria classics" page which was not very extraordinary, but I appreciated have a page full of local cuisine. My travel companion had the pork medallions in a cream, cheese, and mushroom sauce. This was excellent! I would definitely recommend this dish, it's hearty and flavorful. Absolute worst customer service I've ever encountered. The rudest female restaurant host to check in guests at hotel. This is a restaurant trying to run a hotel. Save your money and look elsewhere. She yelled at us, threw our bags into a kitchen for storage and even came up to us at another restaurant to try and apologize after we left the hotel after her horrific behavior- that is admitting guilt that the hotel will take no responsibility of about her behavior towards us. Check other review sights before booking; this is not the first time attitude is spoken of about this place/staff. Still fighting Orbitz to get our money back.
