We ended up stumbling into this place one night while in Bordeaux. I would say that it was one of the better experiences dining we had in Bordeaux. Service was super friendly and they seated us without a reservation. We were unaware it was a set menu for 25 euros which we were a little bummed about b/c we were looking for duck (duck had come up as an option here on a Google search). Nonetheless, we planted it there and had a fabulous meal. Everything was fresh and flavorful with unique flavors. I got the mushrooms, chicken and rice pudding. Our best meal in Bordeaux by far!!! This was excellent. Small charming place with a cute exterior. Make sure you have a reservation on the weekend. Service was great and they speak English and Spanish. The menu is a set one for 25 euros which is a steal. The quality was soooo good. Like I said, best meal we had. Everything is in season and the menu changes because of this. We loved everything. The veloute soup was superb. The duck confit had beautifully crispy skin. Great flavors in every single dish. Sitting in a narrow alleyway, Melodie is a small, cozy French bistro turning out a prix fixe menu of homemade dishes made with seasonal ingredients! There were only four selections for each of the courses, so the care put into every plate was extremely apparent. For our starters, I tried the Salmon Ceviche, made of chunks of tender raw salmon in an acidic marinade, tossed with fennel and pickled red onions, which added a nice crunch. I also had the highly-recommended roasted Saint-Nectaire cheese topped with bacon--this was a warm, hearty, generous portion of decadent melted cheese served with croutons, and the bacon added a nice smokey, umami flavor! And then it was onto the mains. The salmon fillet was perfectly cooked and tender on the inside with crispy, seasoned skin on top. The fish was served over a risotto made with parmesan and beurre blanc sauce, but the rice turned out a bit on the mushy side for me. The Bavette steak served with bordelaise sauce and roasted new potatoes was definitely a hit--the thin steak was so juicy and tender, and the mini potatoes were soft and perfectly seasoned. Two amazing main dishes! And what's a meal without dessert? The classic tiramisu had a bitter flavor from the coffee and cocoa dusting on top, balanced off by the lightness of the mascarpone cheese and whipping cream. The dessert of strawberries with Chantilly cream was made of a cup of sliced strawberries in a light syrup, served with a dollop of whipped cream on the side, along with powder sugar and crushed nuts for decoration. The strawberries were a bit on the sour side (perhaps still early in the season) but paired deliciously with the airy whipped cream to make for a nice, light finish to the meal! For the 20 Euro price tag, this set menu was an absolute steal, and the service here was so quick and friendly too! read more

Simply superb food at a reasonable price. Focused daily seasonal menu consists of just 5 starters, 5 main plates and 5 desserts. Bambie and I ate salmon tartare, chevre cheese salad, duck confit parmentier covered in mash potatoes, oven roasted duck breast, panda cotta, creme brûlée, 3 glasses of wine, 2 coffees. Everything was tasty. The staff are super efficient. They fly like the wind. They are friendly. Total bill for the 3 hour feast explained above was €61. A bargain for the high quality. Highly recommended. P.S.: If you want to eat here, call to make a reservation. We saw dozens of hopeful walk-ins ask for a table. They were all turned away. You must call ahead. read more

Wow is all I have to say! I was really blown away by this restaurant. We didn't know where to eat, but we definitely wanted to stay clear from touristy spots. Thankfully, this restaurant was mentioned on a blog. We were able to be seated right away; we arrived around 12:30. We were lucky to have been seated right away because the crowd soon came afterwards. This restaurant has a simple menu, which is usually a good sign that the food will be delicious. My boyfriend and I each got the 3 course lunch for 20 euros. He started off with the roasted Saint-Nectaire cheese with bacon and I the foie gras. Both starters were absolutely delicious, especially the roasted Saint-Nectaire. The taste was just vibrant. Thankfully there was a little salad to help cut the fat from the cheese and bacon. Next, he had duck shepherd pie and I the duck breast with 5 peppers sauce. Let me just say, simply divine. The shepherd pie was so delicious. As soon as the duck confit touched my tongue, I knew right away that this is how it should be tasted. My duck breast was perfectly cooked to medium rare. Absolutely delicious. We ended our meal with the white chocolate panna cotta with raspberry jam and tarte tatin. Both were not overly sweet and tied our lunch all together. Truly homecooking. If we see ourselves back in Bordeaux, we will definitely have to dine here again! read more

What an awesome restaurant. First of all reservations ARE A MUST. While we sat down for a great meal we watched people over and over again be turned away. This is mainly a local restaurant you hardly heard English. The food is delicious and very reasonably priced. Go for the pre fix menu its the way to go. Had a wonderful late lunch here--our first in Bordeaux. The restaurant is on a charming side street, and the food was simple and delicious. We had the eggplant caviar for a starter (served cold, which we were grateful for on this hot day), pork tenderloin with mustard, salmon with a white sauce (on the menu it's served with a chorizo sauce but they graciously improvised when I told them I was pescatarian), and the most amazing caramel creme brûlée (super crunchy topping!). We reserved on TheFork.com and got a nice 50% discount, but it would have been worth it at full price too (20 euros for the three course set menu). Excellent food at this small French restaurant in Bordeaux. Great wait staff who is very accommodating and answers all your questions. I enjoyed a fantastic 3 course lunch. First, was the foie gras with fig jam. Very good. Next, was the duck shepherds pie. The dish was seasoned perfectly. Last, but not least was the chefs dessert of the day. Showed up for dinner with a reservation but the waitress said they were full. I was about to leave but she said If I was ok with sitting outside they would accommodate me. It was a little chilly out but I was hungry and happy they were willing to feed me. I chose to try their prix fix menu which was reasonably priced. For the main course I had ordered pork loin which was quite nice, it was perfectly cooked. And for dessert I tried their apple pie. Excellent dinner indeed. If I were in Bordeaux again I would most likely consider returning to Mélodie and would definitely recommend them to others. read more
