O' Grand Breton, St Denis, France
Date of Visit: July 30th, 2024
After our first day at the Olympics, and spending most of the day at the Stade De France, we waited to grab dinner nearby. There are not that many food options near the Stadium itself, so we had to walk 10-15 minutes to this restaurant. The walk takes you off the touristy street, but very nearby the Cathedral which is beautiful.
ATMOSPHERE/DECO
It is a typical French bistro, on the small side, bar in the front, dining room in the back. They have a few outside able across the street from the entrance. The road is mostly a pedestrian street (except for residents that are allowed to drive.
SERVICE
Service was fast and efficient, waitress spoke some limited English, but the menu has translation. Everyone was friendly.
PRICE
This was definitely cheaper than Paris pricing, and I found all the prices to be very decent. You could get an Starter, main dish and dessert for around 30-35 euros (without drinks).
FOOD
The menu is very limited, it does change every few months or so, but for the main part, you have 3 starters options, 4 main dish options (one fish and one meat at least) and 3 desserts options plus of course a cheese platter, we are in France after all!
I started with the house made Terrine, (coarse pate) which was very good, it came with a small salad and some cornichons. For main dish, I have the butcher plate, steak was likely a hanger cut and it was OK, not as tender as I like my steak but cooking was spot on, the fries were hot and crispy, it came with a side of blue cheese sauce (but did not try it), also came with a small salad on the plate.
For dessert, they were out of the chocolate tart, so tried the apple crumble, which wasn't as sweet as I expected and a little too sour for me.
We also had Pastis and their recommended wine of the moment, which was a good pairing with the meal.
MISCELLEANOUS
There is no parking at that restaurant, so you need to walk there or take a taxi/rideshare
I did not visit the bathroom so cannot comment on those. The restaurant was clean.
Menu was translated into English and the wait staff had basic English knowledge.
No AC in the restaurant so it was fairly warm, but we were by the open window so it wasn't too bad.
In Conclusion, while this is not the best food I had during the trip, it is still solid and one of the best options near the Stade de France
