My wife and I stumbled in after a long day of travel and walking around the city and castle. Turned away from other restaurants because if our 4pm arrival, Oberkrainer staff were able to find us a table with only a few minutes wait. The staff was amazing and checked on us continuously to get our order as well as follow up to ensure everything g was ok. We got a cozy table in the corner and were able to sit side by side with a view of the entire restaurant. We decided to split a meal so that perhaps we'd have room for some food from the Christmas Markets after giving our feet some rest. Here's what we ordered: Lamb's lettuce with mustard dressing 6,90 Strong flavor of mustard with a touch of sweetness. Very nice side salad but a tad costly for the size. ROSTI STICKS 12.90 Crispy golden brown potato rösti stieks filled with creamy cream cheese, served with two delicious, freahly made dips of Franconian garlic & Beetroot horseradish. These were amazing to eat and I absolutely loved the two dips. The Beetroot horseradish was notably beautiful and offered a flavor I have not considered but will certainly try to copy! Still, I feel that 12.90 is a bit expensive for 5 potato sticks. FRÄNKISCHES SCHÄUFERLE 23,90 Pork shoulder traditionally slowly braised on the bone with two dumplings and dark beer sauce. This was an amazing dish with moist pork with crispy skin and a delicious sauce that you'll want every bite soaked in. We added sauerkraut which I highly recommend as it breaks up the richness of fat and gravy. My wife and I split this dish and were barely able to finish. I didn't care for the dumpling as it was a bit chewy and bland. I don't know how it compares with other German dumplings but my dumplings are much better. :) While this restaurant could charge whatever they'd like and provide food of low quality due to the location above the Christmas Markets, we found the food to be quite memorable. Amazing service and food! A must try if you are in Nuremberg of this family owned/run business of over 50 years! Great ambiance and friendly staff, we had Bojan as our server today. He shared some great recommendations for our group ! We started with the Rosti Sticks and Bratwurst as an app and the Pork shoulder and Cordon Bleu for our entrees. Warm Apple strudel and chocolate tart to finish it off! Loved the second floor view of the market on the outdoor patio too! read more

Best view in Altstadt! This is a real hidden gem in my opinion. It's a great patio with an amazing view of Frauenkirche. The food was great (I had a delicious schnitzel) and the staff was very friendly and checked up on me regularly. I'm relatively new to living in Nürnberg so my German is not very good so the waiter switched to english right away. So don't worry if you can't speak german. Way better service than i've got at any of the other restaurants in Altstadt. read more

We were actually looking for a different restaurant when we happened upon this one. Let's just say we were not disappointed. My husband and I got the Nurenberg sausages with sauerkraut and they were delicious. My daughter got the schnitzel with french fries and she was very happy. They were extremely busy because of the Christmas market and managed to serve us in a timely manner. They did accidentally forget my husband soup but we were secretly thankful because we were so full but there wasn't any room for soup. The atmosphere was really cute and well decorated for the Christmas season. read more

I don't recommend this restaurant to anyone. It was a completely bad experience. We got a salad with dirty leaves, literally. I felt a sand on the teeth. We showed it to the waiter, he pretended like he didn't understand us. Finally, they deduct the price from the receipt, but we got no any apologises. read more

We were originally put off by the low reviews but it was New Year's Day and nothing else was open so we thought we would give it a chance. We got seated and a very nice young man took our drink order and handed us menus. We got our beers but 35-40 minutes later no one had come back to take our order. Despite multiple members of wait staff walking by and seeing us ( including the woman who brought us our beers). We ended up tracking someone down so that we could pay for our beers and then leave to find food elsewhere. read more

We were looking for a restaurant featuring local cuisine and ran across the Restaurant Oberkrainer. Lucky for us we did find it. The meal we had consisted of a mixed greens salad that we split (with some amazingly good pecorino cheese) and then had local favorites of Wiener schnitzel and roasted beef Bavarian style. Both good choices and completely filling. The restaurant was very busy with lots of locals including couples and families. The menu was very extensive including soups, appetizers, main courses and desserts as well as daily specials. Very pleasant waitstaff. read more

With so many great food places nearby one would think this would be the same, unfortunately it is more of a tourist trap with sub-par schnitzel served with bad fries. Main dinner came immediately after my appetiser which was inconsiderate while the staff made me feel rushed at first, then were no where to be seen later. Something has changed at this restaurant between the last post and our visit there. The waiter was very cranky and the food was awful. Everything was very salty. There were 4 of us for dinner. We were polite, not demanding and pleasant to the waiter. It was a Friday evening and the restaurant was almost completely empty. (this should have been a signal to us as all the other restaurants were packed). Not sure if the waiter just didn't like Americans but our experience was terrible. Out of a 17 day European vacation this restaurant stands out as being the worst: worst food and worst service. read more
