This place looks like an abandoned building so drive around back to find the door. No menu and waitress only spoke Spanish but the food was the bomb. Seriously. I eat all over the country and this is just real, real, real. The Mexican rice has nopales chopped up in it. You can taste the lard in the beans (rich and wonderful, not greasy). I've lived in various parts of Mexico off and on for almost half of my life. I'm fat. My physique has been shaped by a multitude of amazing dishes and a plethora of calories from across the globe, but I hate a particular fondness for Mexican food. When I went to this restaurant, I knew right away I had found a treasure. Hidden deep on the west side of south bend, a few blocks off of western avenue, this restaurant is one you've got to set out to find. When you park and walk inside, the vibe goes from rustbelt west side hood, to familiar Mexican / Salvadoran charm. Clean tables fill two large dining areas and a cash register, just in front of the kitchen, is about all you see to realize you're in an actual restaurant. The servers are quick and attentive (and cute!) and when I ate there, rather than being handed a menu, I was told "here's what we've got.." which is typical of many of the more traditional Comida Corrida spots in Mexico. I ordered pozole and it was the best I've had in years. It came piping hot with all of the sides. My little kid got a simple quesadilla and it was enormous. As we ate a man set up a speaker and began singing karaoke style in Spanish and taking requests from the various tables. I ate on a Sunday and it was packed. I was the only gringo in sight. Way too much salt. I could not eat my enchilada meal. The margaritas also had too much salt. I will never go back. I have health issues that limit salt. Too much salt is not recommended for most people. read more

I absolutely love this hidden gem of South Bend. Even though it's a bright orange building, you'll never find it unless you're looking for it because it's located in a residential area. The food is absolutely incredible. I'd never had a pupusa before, but on the insistence of one my friends I came here to give them a go. I had three and honestly, if they weren't so good, I would not have been able to eat it all. The best part is that this entire meal cost me less than $10 before a tip. I expect to come back here again plenty in the future. If you're from the South Bend area and haven't had the chance to stop on by, you are really missing out. read more

If a local doesn't let you in on this secret hidden gem, there's no way you'll stumble upon it. It sits in the middle of a residential neighborhood and there's no signs telling you what's inside. The outside is nothing special and I'd never give it a second look. The inside isn't much to brag about but the food is fantastic! I pretty much ordered the whole menu which isn't had to do! It's a very simple no-fuss menu. I had carne asada tacos, chorizo sope, rice and beans, and the everything pupusa. I'm pretty picky with my carn asada tacos I'm so tired of chewy steak...the steak had a nice flavor and was tender. The popusa were so yummy, I'm obsessed with the pickled slaw that they brought out with it. Rice was different but very good. I loved everything that I ate! read more

Excellent Mexican food! It's like eating in your grandmother's Mexican Kitchen. The other thing to note is that the menu here changes daily. Even though there's a picture of a menu on Yelp I have never seen it . The waitress just tells you what they cooked that day. I had been hearing through the Latin community about this hidden place that is as close to home cooking as you're ever going to get. The flautas are fantastic. Everything is homemade. One downside or upside depending on how you look at it. Don't bother going unless you're with somebody who speak Spanish. The upside is that weeds out this place from ever getting too commercial. I was looking for a place to get Mexican food at, and this place completely blew me out of the water! ...I was in town for work for about a month, and my only regret is not finding this place sooner so I could come here more than once! On my visit, I ordered chicken flautas (they come in an order of six), a steak taco (it came with onions and cilantro), and a bottle of water. The flautas were nicely fried (not too greasy--you also get a side of rice and beans with your flautas), the chicken was nice and juicy, the vegetables were recently chopped and fresh, and the steak taco was a generous size (not like the small ones you get at other places). All this food left me stuffed, and it was all for the price of $12.31! The only setbacks here are that it is cash only and it closes pretty early (5 p.m. on Wednesday when I came). They are best known for their Pupusas! You can't go wrong with anything on the menu though. They have a small menu but even with that you are guaranteed to find something you'd like. Definitely a hidden gem in the west side of South Bend. read more

This place is fantastic. I came in to get some lunch to go. It took a little longer than I expected but they were a little busy I guess. It was absolutely worth the wait! I got floutas and a mix pupusas. The floutas were the best I've ever had. Honestly, I have no idea what that pupusas was but it was the best part of my meal. Absolutely delicious. The food is outstanding and the service is as well. I was a little concerned that there isn't a menu to look at because my ignorance at the names and styles of authentic food is pretty high but the server was great and explained well. We had three different dishes but my favorite was the pork pupusa. I could eat them daily! I highly recommend the trip! read more

I recently moved from Nashville, TN to Northern Indiana. In Nashville we had several great Mexican and El Salvadorian restaurants. I had my first Pupusa in Nashville and ate them pretty regularly. I was pretty excited to run across this little Orange Building on Pulaski street. A fairly small menu consisting of Pupusas, Tacos, Tortas and Sopes... however on Thursdays they have a wonderful Vegetable Beef soup and also have different soups on the weekends... I believe a shrimp soup on Saturday and Menudo on Sunday. My wife ordered the VeggieBeef soup and I ordered 2 Bean and Cheese Pupusas. Both our meals were fantastic. Probably the best Pupusas I have had... definitely the best sauces I have had for them... both red and green sauces were fantastic. The green sauce tasted like fresh Jalapenos... so tasty. This is the best Mexican/El Salvadorian food I have had yet in Michiana. Give them a try! Use your GPS as they do not really have a sign... looks like maybe there was one at some point but the weather has taken it out. You can't miss the Orange building though. read more
