I tend to be someone who typically goes to the doctors office when plagued by an issue, although now I find myself checking out alternative therapies more like acupuncture, chiropractic, meditation, etc. I also was a bit fearful of needles when I initially came here after a traumatic experience before a surgery, but I'm thrilled that my fear has really dissipated thanks to acupuncture! I now relax and lay back when the needles are being put in and I'm really amazed because recently I had to get a lot of blood drawn and I just relaxed, held my arm out and went to my Zen like place, which is really great! Before acupuncture, I would have been much more anxious and on edge. I not only have arthritis in my knee, which is my primary reason for coming to acupuncture but I also have chronic pain- a condition which affects the body with widespread pain and tenderness called fibromyalgia, which is a misunderstood and baffling illness. So, I'm coming to Healing Arts for both! I would much rather have a Zen like afternoon catnap where I can relax that take lots of medications. I may not be able to completely avoid the latter but whatever I can do holistically and naturally will definitely be my preference. While I may not ever be cured of these conditions completely, knowing that acupuncture can really help me manage my symptoms is invaluable! It's a great way of coping, a huge tool in my toolbox of coping strategies and I would personally much rather have acupuncture any day than get injections and have to take lots of pills. I tend to come about once a month and the first couple of times I noticed some soreness but I have found much better results as I keep going. Occasionally a little bruise or soreness may occur but the pain relief, motion and relief from stiffness in joints is really amazing and awesome! My knee feels much better after going this 3rd time, much more movement when it was pretty stiff. They also have a Yelp deal, check in offers and all in all is a relaxing experience- chill out on a massage bed with pillows, calming music, refreshing scents, dim lighting and yes, some privacy too from the Shoji screens. I have had 3 practitioners- Margaret, Holly and Steve, I thought they were all good, I prefer Steve but they were all good. I'll be back!

I accidentally came in a week early for appointment after writing it down wrong (oops!) but the staff at HACA were so kind and accommodating despite it being completely my mistake, and were able to fit me in for a great session. The place was really well set-up with rugs, heaters, and screens to separate patient treatment areas that are all within the same large room. Holly Prescott was the practitioner that day and she did a great job asking what I was there for and then placing needles so gently I hardly felt them. I've tried several different chiropractors, massage therapists, cupping, yoga (normal + hot), you name it. To be honest, I didn't expect to get much by way of results from acupuncture - how can little, barely noticeable needles do more than the more invasive/aggressive methods I've tried? To my surprise and delight, it actually did help a great deal. I can't tell you why, or how - Chris is much better explaining the science than I ever could, but I have much longer stretches where that spot has disappeared than I have with anything else I've tried! He really took his time with our first session, asking questions about everything from sources of stress, things I'm dealing with in life, things I've tried in the past... I think we spoke for an hour and a half before even starting treatment. It helped a great deal towards building rapport, trust, and connection before getting to the needles. He has a very gentle approach, and I can barely feel the needles when he places them - a quick tap, and they're in. He also has an intuitive sense about the body, and has pinpointed exactly where that trouble spot was without me even showing him where it was. The owner will come in and speak to her and their language and leave the room she would start massaging again and still not doing what I asked. I kept stressing that I wanted the abdominal lymphatic massage that I had before. I ended the treatment about 15 minutes early because I was so annoyed. The owner still wanted me to pay full price but we negotiate it so that I only paid $50 during that visit. I scheduled another appointment with the original therapist that I had and I returned one week later. When I got there, the owners spoke to the therapist again and their language telling her what I wanted, however she already knew what I wanted because she said she remembered me from before. I believe the owner was still upset that I only paid $50 the last time because the service was bad. I can't speak to exactly what she advised her to do for me, but I'm sure she told her not to give me what I wanted. We went in that room and she did everything but lymphatic massage! She tried to do cupping she did extremely deep tissue on areas that I did not complain about! It was a weird day at Pain Away because there weren't any clients that I could see but there were several people there doing a bathroom renovation. There were two men in one woman who stayed outside the door while I was getting my massage so I was actually nervous about complaining. I took the awful massage that was not an abdominal lymphatic massage and I love quietly. I canceled the Gia show face massage and got it of there. I actually didn't feel comfortable complaining about anything with those employees standing outside of the door, which I had to walk past when I left the room. I had to come to the establishment over a year ago pretty often, but I will never go back again. The owner is a nasty woman who will take any complaints out on you by telling the providers not to do a good job.
